I felt that the orchestra was holding him back a little. They were a little "draggy" initially. Kavakos is superb. He has complete command and his phrasing is perfect.
the guy's a beast. he's got technique coming out of his ass. i wish i had one tenth of his talent. i wish i had his fiddle too. when he digs into the G string, he gets a sound like i've never heard before.
For me. Lalo' s "Espagnole" is a certain benchmark concerning the skills of a violonist. Kavakos is really extraordinary in this respect. "A beast" indeed. (in musical terms)
This is a completely unjustified criticism. He does sway in the dolce passages and they are clearly differentiated. If he's robotic as you say how can it be overall very impressive? Some of the greatest violinists, e.g Oistrakh. Menuhin, Kogan, Heifetz, move very little when they play. The playing should be expressive enough to convey the music without a lot of body movement. He is very highly regarded as a musician, not just a technician.
I think a lot of people see body motion as expression which is extremely unjustified as musicians can move all they want and sound like robots and vice versa
@@aasserelzoghby6781 somewhat imo, if it is natural and does not hinder their music it's great, but music is a auditory art form not visual so judging expression purely by visual cues is kinda stupid 😶

Yes, I've heard some of them are! However, if I remember correctly, Kavakos said in his Strad 2009 interview that his Strad was worth around 700.000 euros. Not few still!
Thank you, Adorado31. Your info is correct. He obtained this instrument in 2004. According to my info he owns it still. The color is too light to be a Guarneri - and too good looking too! Hence my question. Thanks again for the reply.
Quel violoniste..! mais quel dommage que le chef et son orchestre ne "suivent" PAS....De trop nombreux décalages gâchent un peu le plaisir d'écouter ce merveilleux violoniste ..qui mérite mieux....
It's the orchestra's job to follow him. It's not his job to follow the orchestra. So actually, the orchestra was playing by themselves on that part, not Kavakos.
He is very talented. but doesn't play with much feeling. He may be able to play the notes really fast and in tune, but he's just playing the notes, and not the music. The parts where it's supposed to be played " Dolce" on the 2nd and fourth page, he's very robotic like. He should sway with the music, feel the music as he's playing. Overall, it's very impressive. maybe just a little on the fast. But I would do anything to have his technique!! lol
Jordan Onijs You don’t need to move to few the music. All the greats like Menuhin Heifetz, Oistrakh etc. barely moved. The emotion should be expressed through the music!!! He does that well
Also on another note its kind of the style of this piece to be as you say "robotic" which I hate that term especially for someone as musical as Kavakos
Sway, you mean like the very distracting Moldavian lass Kopatchinskaja, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and the awful marionette Joshua Bell? I have to hear them in audio - no video. They look like used car air puppets. No thanks! They are as bad as the face contortionists who look like they need to vomit when they play.
this is an amazing performance! he is a Great violinist, reminding me of those from gold times, like Kogan,Oistrakh,Heifetz...
He kind of reminds me of Gingold
Incredible performance... What a technical monster. Saw him with Cleveland Orch, so amazing.
His G string is the TRUTH

he's probably the first solo violinist with a mustache I've ever seen :)
True lol
Also the only I have seen with hair on his left hand
Herr Kreisler. His stature is similar, too.
Zukerman
Best violinist ever to come out of Greece. Come and take them!
This performance gave me life!
Priscille Michel word
I love how he shifts back and forth between his third and fourth fingers on those repeated Bs at 6:45. Subtle, yet highly effective.
he can do that because his hold of the instrument is so stable, the key for violin is stability
He should do some masterclasses on how to stabilise your violin hold
And also on sul g
I've listened to this many times before , but it never gets old!
at 3:49 e wanted to rush a bit but the orchestra wasn't following
Haha! I noticed that! And I think when the theme is repeated toward the end, he decided it wasn't worth it to fight that battle again!
So did I! I felt like something sounded wrong...

Lmfaoooo
Its the Falmouth Stradivarius. I saw him play Brahms with the BSO. It really has a spectacular tone.
At the beginning his sul g sounds a lot different than at 6:05
He is a master indeed

I think that in this video he's playing the "Falmouth" Stradivarius of 1692 (pictured on the cover of the Sevcik studies) which he now has sold :)
Wow the soloist is amazing! I just wish the orchestra and conductor followed him a lot better
Hey!!! What happened to Asensio at 3:49??? He forgot that Mr Kavakos wanted an accelerando at that point?
Yes that is kinda weird
Oops!
Yes, I noticed that right off. Takes him a bit to catch up. What if he had a violinist that is even more free? He needs some musical instinct.
Love this performance - so powerful yet refined. Also spotted the mandatory duff note at 7.38!
2:35 - to 2.40 fuckkkk man, im not a violinist but got damn that is so clean
Best reference to everybody!!!
Superb performance...

This is the way to record live performances - raw and not "sound engineered".
Good playing. Must be hundreds like it.
une pure merveille,un chant du violon admirable !
Haha the winds can’t keep up! Kavakos really wanted to get that ball rolling 3:46
@IntSimo A, B-flat, C, in seventh position on the G string.
Wow
After Kogan & Ricci the best Lalo of the last 50 years. Just great!!!!

great García Asensio!
He's seriously good. I'm 12 and learning this song :D Really difficult...
How did it turn out 9 years later?
12???????????
I’m learning this song too! only I’m two yrs younger
Omg now you must be 22...
Learning this piece as well. Difficult af, 3rd finger keeps missing on those fast upward passages.

@punchaloo Exactly right.
I break out into giggles every time I listen to that last note

Can someone write me the notes, which he`s playing at 1:44 - 1:46 and how he plays it. thank you.

On the G (lowermost) string for the entire phrase.

Why do most soloists not have hair on their left hands

I am not that stupid - is it a Strad or Guarneri? Or something else?
It's a strad, particularly the Falmouth which he sold.

yes this one in particular would be a violin

the one guy who disliked can play it better :))
Paganini if he were to play it
It is beginner for him
His bow arm looks odd with his wrist being so high.
It looks like he's about to smack himself in the face playing those retakes at the frog.
Yet he has such a well-supported sound, and clarity. Judging ones' appearance when playing is shallow and unnecessary. Use your ears instead. :)
Height of the wrist depends ones bow hold, arm length, and violin angle. It’s a very personal thing.
He's a large man.
