I redesigned the @Airbnb mobile app wishlist feature as a UX take home design challenge as my application to the @Kleiner Perkins Design Fellowship program. I hope you find this video interesting and helpful! This is so far my largest RUclips project. Thanks for 5K subs!! I'll continue to make good videos in 2022. Happy New Years to you all 🥳 Let's make 2022 special.
I have never came across anyone giving me this much clarity in take home assignments. Love your work and thought process Aliena, every video is unique and I see you use UX on this channel too. ❤️
As 1/5 of your research participant, I have to say that I really enjoyed the interview and user testing. I’m super surprised, satisfied, and glad to see the final outcome! Keep it up ✌️
Hey Aliena, you're my inspiration. And I'm aspiring to become a UI/UX designer. I have attended a few interviews and got selected for the final rounds but then have no updates. Could that be a reason like they might be interviewing other candidates or might I not do the interview well? I would request you post videos on how to Ace Interviews, what could be the possible questions and answers in the interviews & the types of interviews and how to handle them. Looking forward! Thanks much for inspiring me :)
Thank you for sharing such a useful and practical video for a home design assignment! I've been facing challenges in passing and presenting my design assignment even though I've been a UX designer for a long time. I'm going to apply this approach for the next chance.
I recently discovered your channel as I start transitioning into UX, and I have been watching one of your videos every single day! I really love how fun, creative, and detailed each video is! Thanks for inspiring us!
Hahaha thank you so much Rakshit! I was hoping someone can comment on this. It was a lot of fun to act three different characters. But it was hell to use someone else's glasses and try to read the screen 😂 We all need to take good cares of our eyes.
you really save my life this is very clear pls always upload more videos can't wait for more content from you hope you are always healthy greetings from Indonesia
I accidentally saw your UX design course video and went to the homepage to see some other content. I appreciate sharing the whole process of product development, which gives me a lot of inspiration. I haven't been touched UX design before, always acting as the user:-). I want to ask what to do next after the ideas coming out? After getting alignments with stakeholders, who will execute ideas, designers or engineers
Great questions. In a large company, you actually need to first define the problem/ set a goal; everyone can help to ideate, but designers will do a lot on visualizing the ideas to wireframes and then prototypes. Some companies will let the front-end engineers to make the prototype, but others will let the designers do it. Turning ideas into reality will be a collaboration between the designers and engineers. Sometimes designers design a great page, but the coding can be very complicated. So not all designs get implemented. All collaboration 😎
Thanks for your reply. Totally understand. Would it be possible just to share the template without any information in it? Your remote whiteboard challenge video was also quite insightful and fun to watch. Thanks so much for your contents.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Actually this is the second draft for this video, not supposed to be the final draft. But my editing software crashed today 😶 I'm glad the quality of the second draft is good enough to be published! Anyways, thanks for your comment 😊
Awesome video Aliena!!! You have some great ideas...I'm new to UX and it's a great to see different ways to make apps, software, physical products even better then they originally are
Hi Aliena, Superb video. I am currently doing take home design challenge given for a short period of time. Is it necessary to do user testing ? I am lil confused
Hey Aliena Cai, like the in-depth tour of your design thinking ✌️ At 1:31 you've did some kind of card style in Notion, can you tell me how you've created them? Thanks in advance, Toni
I forced my friends (Just kidding). I kindly asked my closest connections that may be relevant to the product I'm building to join my user test :D More videos coming up!
while u are gonna remove something from your wishlish, while it opens a popup confermation page that are u sure to remove? There, you should add a 50% opacity(black) behind the background
hey! just a question. How would you make the delete button more noticeble for older users? for example younger people that know that majority of apps have a swiping feature will know that you need to swipe to delete but how would you make it easier for users say in their 40s and older without cramping up more elements on the screen? great design!
This is a great question. Delete is a special case because it's often an irreversible secondary action that we want to prevent users from accidentally deleting things. If it was a more important action like "buy", "reserve", "next", I would introduce both text and icon, or simply use a button. But for delete, a product designer may choose to not make it too obvious to prevent false action. For example, there was a "delete" text on wechat that my grandma noticed the other day. She panicked and thought she deleted my mom's post.
Subscribed! Nice video too! I am currently interviewing for a company and i am in the third stage where I was given a design challenge with provided data from their research team. Please how can I approach this challenge since data has been provided by the team?
Congrats! Since they've provided the data, then that can be used to support your design decision. For example, if they already of a product, then you can ideate what can be improved based on the data they provided, and then turn that into a high fidelity prototype and present to them.
thanks for ur amazing videos . can i ask how can I find the same font of the original app if I'm redesigning an app feature ? u said u went back after you skipped prototyping but I didn't understand how to copy the same font
Great question. I used a different font actually. Many companies design their own font and don't make the font open source. I simply go through my fonts and find a one that's close to theirs.
Hi Aliena, when doing take home assignments, will it hurt if i dont do user interviews? Especially if given a short amount of time to submit? Thanks in advance!
What do you think about a metrics-focused redesign approach? It helps dive deeper, understand the lifecycle of an app, and be more focused on business goals.
I just called my friends 😂 For personal projects I think it's totally ok. If you are working in a large company, other people will take care of the user research

Hi Aliena, Superb video. I am currently doing take home design challenge given for a short period of time. Is it necessary to do user testing ? I am lil confused
Hey, I really liked the way you organized the case study in notion, Can You share the template?
Great suggestion. I don't have a template right now but I've noted your request down.

Hi, I enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much for the support Aba! 😄😄
Thanks for the video! what is the tool you are displaying in the video where you build your personas, empathy maps, user journey, etc?
That's Notion. I have a video on it here: ruclips.net/video/gxlkruv4NVQ/видео.html

why are you using , creating personas? I'd assume you did all user research already to create those personas?
Hi Aliena thankyou for making such simple to understand and detailed case study. can you please tell me how you created your avatar on your profile ?
Aha, look up memoji~
Good keep working
Thank you, I will! 🙌
Hi Aliena, can you tell us how did you find and recruit users who were already using the product?
It's not as fancy as you think. I just call my friends and families 😅
Great video! I wonder how did you find the potential interviewees?
That’s a great question! Airbnb is a popular app that most of my friends use, so in this case I just asked my first degree connections 😀
LMAO!! Your acting is so good XD
Thank you hahaha 😀😀😃🤣 it was also a lot of fun
