@@inTruthbyGrace I think reality conflicts with your view. The bible never cites it's self except the Old testament. Meaning any time the new testament speaks of scripture it's referring to the Old testament. Second I don't think the quotes you gave mean what you want them to say. Case and point look at how many thousands of different protestant denominations there are that espouse Sola scriptura "bible alone". If scripture and the spirit reveal all truth then why is their thousands of denominations with different beliefs all claiming to have authority from scripture? Whose telling the truth? Which are correct? They all can't be true so whose lying?

As a past Protestant I can say deep down it is pride. A learned Protestant sticks to their belief as they claim the Bible is their authority. However, in reality it is them themselves. As a Protestant you can twist scripture however you like to make it conform to your wanted beliefs.
Whereas Catholics ignore scripture claiming their tradition bears equal weight, even when it conflicts with Holy scripture. At least the Protestants attempt to adhere to Gods word. To the Catholic, it’s nothing more than a guide rather than the one, and only, source of instruction on salvation and sanctification. Seems like a pot/kettle example applies here.

@@tatie7604 Nowhere are the Catholics told to worship statues. Now we can debate about the practice of prayers to the saints- I have grave reservations about that myself, but as far as actually worshipping statues, cite a non-anecdotal source that shows it's official doctrine or concede the point.

We should try to get along with everyone, but don't make statements that can be misconstrued. And they can be. If you worship "the unknown God", the point is that you should accept Jesus along with the Holy Spirit in order to know the Father because the Father and Son are One. No man comes to the Father except by me-- is what Jesus says.
So just because someone is a monotheist, does not mean the same god is worshipped by all.

What Josh is essentially claiming is that there existed a process (by divine design) of relocating apostolic authority and doctrine from the living apostles to their writings - positively excluding any transmission of that same authority to their successors. This process developed until the death of the last apostle at which point no Christian had or needed any other apostolic authority than the apostolic writings.
The problem with this theory is that it does not match what we know about the church in the late first, second, third, and fourth centuries. The evidence from that early period tells a different story about the transmission of divine revelation, a story that much more closely matches the Catholic theory of apostolic succession. The church at that time shows no evidence of behaving as if sola scriptura were true.
Josh’s theory of the total relocation of apostolic authority and doctrine to the apostolic writings alone upon the death of the last apostle is an ad hoc theory designed to justify the 16th century doctrine of sola scriptura. But when we examine the early post-apostolic evidence we discover a community operating very differently than the Christian communities that have historically embraced sola scriptura over the last five-hundred years.
It is self-defeating to try and evade this criticism by claiming that the early post-apostolic church was a corrupt or false form of Christianity over against the Bible, which allegedly teaches sola scriptura, since the very text and canon assumed by that argument comes to us through the allegedly corrupt or false church - and only appears in its present canonical form hundreds of years into the history of that allegedly corrupted or false church that by that time was undeniably Catholic.
In short, if I’m not going to trust the judgement of the church of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th century in matters of apostolic doctrine, then I have no reason to trust its judgment regarding the canon of scripture. And if I reject its judgment regarding the canon of scripture, then there is no canon of scripture.

God bless u Trent, im a ex-protestant, and I saw the problem with Christianity long ago, so i became an atheist, not so smart, but I thank the Lord everyday for opening my eyes.
Bc when i came back to the faith, i was walking around telling people im a reborn again Christian, without knowing what that really meant 🤦🏻♂️ but since i knew the problems with protestantism christianity, i went back to the early apostolic church fathers, & read my way into the RCC.
Even thou I almost became an eastern orthodox, i softened my heart, & just prayed to God for truth.
As i always start a conversation with atheists, i ask them, if Christianity were true would u be a Christian, most of them say "NO", thats when i know to dust off and move on to the next soul.
So i took my own advice, and said to the Lord if Catholicism is true, I'll be a catholic Lord, so I see it as, not that i read myself into the church alone, but by reading and praying to God, having discernment, asking God show me were im wrong, thats what i believe is the only way, a protestant, r orthodox Christians will see the truth of the RCC.
Bc when i talk to orthodoxs, i ask them this question about Catholicism, 9 out 10 they all say no ill never be a Roman Catholic, it hurts me so bad, bc alot of the orthodoxs ik were ex-protestants.
So it all boils down to hatred for the RCC, and that's why people can't see it, bc they choose not to see it, and that's when God will not uncircumcised your heart, he will hand you over to reprobated mind.

I appealed to Parish priests who were helpful but you and others have provided in depth analysis of the one true religion...back then,I didn't have many answers but never left the faith and glad I didn't...Amen

When I was an Evangelical I tried to prove sola scriptura was the truth by looking in the Bible to find out how it defined “Word of God”. I discovered that the Bible does not define the Word of God as only what was written in scripture.

I think it's very interesting that Protestant Apologist insist that Catholics teach a false Gospel while misrepresenting what Catholics actually teach and then tell you what their interpretation of Scripture is. If they were following what I see Catholic Apologist do and give the strongest possible argument for Protestantism and then refute it, I guarantee most of these well read Protestant Apologist will convert to the true faith. We do know however that this would take a great in-working of grace from the Holy Spirit, since it is only by grace that we are drawn to God and live in him. Many of these Protestant Apologist likely on some level know the truth but continually reject his voice (although this is a presumption on my part).
They teach a lot of false teachings, they claim that Jesus will be on earth which never mentions on scripture (doctrine of false Christ), idolatry and carved images, Sunday change was originated from sun worship, Jesus rested on the seventh day (Saturday), Bible says that the Sabbath is a perpetual covenant.
There is Hope! Terrible and very weak arguments. First of all, the Vatican isn’t on the seven hills of Rome, it’s actually on the other side of Rome. Not only that but I can show you multiple Seventh Fay Adventist preachers wearing Purple and Red. It’s a color. The Church wears the color Red for martyrs and the Blood of Christ. The purple represents sacrifice. Also the Bible talks about the apostles worshiping on Sunday and the early Christians believed it.
Gavin Grinny Yes you are right, I made a lazy mistake about saying it was on Vatican instead of Rome. I haven’t heard of Protestant preachers having red or scarlet but likely wouldn’t have a strong religious power from my point of view. I would be interested in knowing anywhere in the scripture it would say to worship on Saturday. The issue with the Roman Catholic Church although is that they do have resemblance with changing set times and laws, being the only big religious power to wear scarlet and purple, the little horn in Daniel is from the Roman Empire split/growth into ten kingdoms. It does interpret that they will be wondered and marveled by the world. The majority of Christians are known to be Catholic and they are becoming like the majority. In the last days the saints (saints are the spiritual Israelites, children of God) will be saved but the door will be narrow. There is a doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church of the end times that is really similar to the false Christ. Jesus Christ said he will be coming in the clouds to lift our heads up but he nevered said he will touch earth. They think Jesus will come in earth which is unbiblical and it would be werid that people will deceived by the false Christ after the coming of Jesus. You are saying that a denomination of Christianity is on trial to the be the Antichrist spoken of in Scripture because of the amount of souls it has helped...What? What sort of logic is that? "Christ said only those who take the road not taken can enter Heaven. The Catholic Church has a lot of members. Therefore, the Church is a false Church and spreads a false Gospel." This has no sound argument to it. If tomorrow, every soul were to leave the Catholic Church and join the Baptist Church, then the same logic would have to be applied to it as well. Do you see how this doesn't fit together? Using the quantitative data concerning the number of members in a denomination/religion as basis for a claim as large as denouncing it as the Antichrist is a slippery slope, since it has no basis to it. Also, the Antichrist probably wouldn't want to come as a Pope. 1) What the Pope says is not law for the entirety of the Church, as the "papal infallibility" people hear about is only invoked when defining a certain doctrine/dogma for the faith. It has no bearing of control on people. 2) People can ignore the Pope's flaws should he do something they feel is not in following with the faith. That has been done many times over with past Popes, and people do it now with Pope Francis. 3) All of these points summed into one, the Antichrist will be a person of such charisma and influence that everyone will feel, personally, as if they simply must listen to this man, and obey what he says. This doesn't apply to the Pope, as his position isn't to be the ultimate head of the Church (that is Christ's position), but to be a representative/steward/shepherd of His people on earth. Also, to say that Scripture says Christ will not come to earth again is absolutely incorrect, and to say that Scripture says otherwise implies you may have not read much from it. Acts 1:11, as the Apostles and Jesus' Mother are looking at where Christ Ascended into Heaven, they are greeted by angels that tell them that Christ will literally "come back in the same way you have seen Him go to Heaven". Also, the Book of Revelation talks about Christ preparing a New Earth (referred to as "the world to come" in the Nicene Creed) in Revelation 21. It goes into explicit detail of Him doing away with everything and then making it new. And if that isn't enough, Revelation 21:3 says that a voice from the Throne of God shouted, "And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them!" The very same Scripture you say supports that Christ would never return to earth to stay refutes your statement. There is a New Heaven and a New Earth coming in Christ's renewal, and He will come to bring it here, not make it far away. The Holy Catholic Church has always taught this, is teaching this, and will continue to do so. So, "prepare the way of the Lord".
I absolutely love these rebuttals. As a recent convert they are so helpful. Before I converted I listened to many debates and it is so helpful to have both interpretations in one place. Too many protestants making videos that misrepresent the teachings of the church. Very frustrating.
Exactly. And if you think about, protestants only resort to apologetics when is convenient. The protestant in the video defended christianity (against islam) from an historical point of view: he said there were witnesses, he also said there aren't serious scholars claiming Jesus never resurrected and so on.
But when they face the Catholic Church, they are _bye bye historicity_ and _hello sola scriptura_ . Suddenly they toss 1,500 years of preexistence of christianity, and resort to " _you know why Catholic Church is wrong? Here are (MY INTERPRETATION ON) some verses that contradicts your Church's teaching_ ". Translation: pure subjective arguments.

Watching some debates may be good but we always have to make sure that we have enough time to be alone with God ( praying fasting and studying the word ) ; I say that because I was so addicted to debates and I know many people here on RUclips are , being addicted to debates does not help at all if our private life with God is nonexistent( or very weak).
@@franciscobumba2312 Amen. I constantly catch myself becoming so obsessed with the cerebral stuff, with intellectualizing and polemicizing the faith, that I can't remember the last time I prayed. If that goes on for long enough, at least for some people, by the time you finally get bored with arguments about Jesus or religion or philosophy, you won't be able to remember why you believe in the first place.
As a former atheist for my entire life, I was definitely convinced by the empirical evidence for the Resurrection and the philosophical evidence for God and for the immaterial and eternal spirit/mind/soul. It was absolutely essential for me, I never would have even had an open mind without people like Dr. Brant Pitre and even William Lane Craig. I never even gave that stuff a chance, I'd listen to Christopher Hitchens bash Dr. Craig but wouldn't give Dr. Craig the opportunity to defend himself.
Out of nowhere and for no apparent reason, I felt an irresistible impulse to learn about Christ. I became totally obsessed, reading books and listening to debates and even watching movies and TV shows about Jesus like The Chosen, which elicited such profound and cathartic emotional responses that I got sucked in even deeper. I just decided to suspend my disbelief and humor Jesus for a moment, and that moment never ended, because the Spirit immediately reciprocated my incipient faith with a gesture of his own and gave me the gift of prayer.
I think at least for some people (probably especially atheists) it's a 3-step process. The Spirit opens one's mind to the possibility; evidence and rational thought fill the mind; the individual assents to faith, because even though they haven't been given 100% certainty (which is impossible, even for a trivial scientific claim like "matter exists"), they _have_ been given a preponderance of evidence, with which they can conclude that it's more likely true than not, and so make a choice to assent. Bishop Barron says it's like trusting a person when they tell you some deeper truth about themselves that can't be verified empirically.
So clearly it's important, at least for some people, to know 1) that the Christian claims are not impossible, haven't been proven false, haven't even been proven unlikely, and aren't _a priori_ philosophically silly or improbable or irrational; and 2) that there is good evidence for at least some of the most important Christian claims, and very good evidence for the circumstantial details, like the overall narrative of how the Church came to exist. I think without demonstrating those things, it's gonna be practically impossible to convince a modern, millennial atheist, because of the extent to which we worship Popperian epistemology.
That said, it's so easy for someone with that mindset to lose sight of what's really important and why. Obviously, Christianity is important _because_ it's true. If it were just a bunch of beautiful poetry and mythology, it might be worth consuming in a manner similar to exquisite art, but it would not be any more important than any other hobby or interest. However, provided we can accept that it's true, we then need to focus on chasing the future that God wants for us. What that's gonna look like will be different for everyone, and many (myself included) will still be discerning that for a long time. But at the very least, everyone can pray daily, confess his or her sins and commune with Christ himself at mass.
It is not that they misrepresent anything , it is that you do reject the Truth !

Also if he's using the current KJV they removed books that was in the first King James Version 1611. The King James Version 1611 aka Authorized King James Bible had all the books that the Catholic Bible does. The deuterocanonical books were removed later.

There are so many channels over here that are sedevacants and we don't see many people debunking their arguments like it should be done, but otherwise, more and more people becoming sedevacants or what we call as "radtrads". Having been raised as a Baptist, son and grandson of well meaning Baptist Pastors, I came to realize that most Protestant doctrinal tenets are based on a naive and superficial reading of the Bible and that Catholic teaching is much stronger and deeper than I was taught to believe.
The key here is research. A lot of protestants are happy not digging any further than their pastors exaltations that the RCC is the work of Satan.

I’m so sad, I’ve read and heard the name Trent Horn probably 100 times while watching conversion stories and videos by searching Protestants like the Ten Minute Bible Hour and the guy Matt Fradd has been talking to, Bertuzzi? I am a revert to the Faith for the past 12 years, after completing RCIA classes from a very holy Deacon. It started me on a faith and intellectual journey that never ends, and it’s exciting! Our Faith is so much…the Word, the Sacraments, the Church Fathers, etc.

I always find ironical & sad to hear protestants say _"if we can understand the source/cause of an error (referring to Catholic teachings), then it's easier to understand how the other things are symptoms of such error"._ If they could apply this little process to their own beliefs, that'd be great.
I'm not even catholic but if I had to pick between catholic and reformed (as a matter of life and death with no other choice), I'd pick catholic (it'd be an easy choice) and for me I found this to be a massive demolishing of Josh.
I'm new to Catholicism coming from a secular worldview so these protestant theologies are also new to me. But they always seem like they're splitting hairs. At some point, any of these non-denominational or whatever Christian churches must have a council of their own and decide what the scriptures mean to them. How is that different from what the Catholic church is doing? Except the Catholic church has the intellectual pedigree. There always seems to be some pride embedded in these pastor guys. They way they say things like "So now listen to this!" like they have a secret to reveal. Not to mention this guy obviously has resentment.

What fascinates me with people like Josh is that he expects us to accept HIS interpretation of the Bible rather than relying on the 2000 years that the magesterium of the Church teaches us. That is the whole point in the third pillar of the truth: the collective wisdom of the magesterium is much safer and far more reliable than any one individual trying to understand and preach it. If you need any further proof of this, just listen to Josh and the nonsense he speaks. It is like a kindergarten kid trying to teach a university graduate. The gates of Hades HAVE prevailed against people like him who are trying to draw people away from the Christian (ie CATHOLIC) Church.

It's really funny to see this guy's self-assured attitude punctuated by Trent's counterpoints that totally dismantle his position. It really highlights his arrogance and how shallow it is.
Here is something I always find odd. Sola scriptura would explicitly imply that any quote from Jesus is 100% true. Yet, when Jesus prays to God (essentially himself), he asks that the church stay as “one” as He and the father are “one”. He goes on to say that the gate of hell will come against the church but “they will not prevail”. After reading that, with the sola in mind, wouldn’t you say that Christ said there is one church, that he established, that will always stay as one? That church, one and holy, of apostolic succession, is the Roman Catholic Church. Trent I am sure you are aware of the very anti-Catholic John MacArthur. His ignorance of Catholic teaching drives me crazy. I’ve heard half of his almost cult following is fallen away Catholic.
I was invited to hear one of MacAruthur's Assistant Pastors give a talk many years back. His claim to fame in the handout was that he was (then) a current Assistant Chief of Police under Darryl Gates, and a former Romanist Seminarian. Well I listened to the first talk, and it was full of holes, most of the time he would say things like, There are different kinds of Masses, in which the priest magically makes Jesus come down from heaven, each with a different amount of Power, there are Solemn High Masses with three priests, Solemn Mass, Sung Mass, High Mass, Recited Mass and Said Masses, Requiem Masses and one called a Missa Sicca which I don't know what it is. I was introduced to him after as my neighbor thought, "we got him, and the Pastor will reel him in." So I mentioned that his sources must have been pre-Vatican II, and that I prefer to go to the Latin Mass, although I'll go to the Byzantine or Ordinary Form (as it's now called) as they were all the same thing with the same Infinite graces, as they are the actions of Jesus and not the priest. That Christ works through His priesthood which he shares with the Church through those ordained into His priesthood. I also asked since he really did not know what the different Mass were, as they were simply the External solemnity that was used in the celebration, and the Missa Sicca was not a Mass, but a devotional act used by some Cloistered monks which followed the text of the Mass up to the just before offertory then skipped to the Pater, (the Latin threw him for a loop.) Or as the latin says a Dry Mass, or practice of the rite which a deacon preforms to practice offering Mass so he does have preparation prior to ordination. His eyes opened wider. Then I asked, so you say you went to the Seminary, having family who are cops, and knowing that many were involved in petty crimes as kids until sent to reform school. Was the Seminary you went to, (I mentioned the name of a local High School Seminary that no longer exists) which was used more as a Catholic reform school for bad boys than for fostering vocations? He admitted that was his story. I'm no saint and don't have the charisms of Padre Pio, but Abp Sheen once said, those priests who abandon the Faith and attack it usually show what kind of sin they committed by attacking the things they failed in before they left or were expelled from the Clergy.

Trent, thanks for this video. One thing that I can't help but feel unsatisfied with is that you did not address the second part of the quote from Lumen Gentium, namely, that it states Muslims worship the one merciful God with us (obviously paraphrasing) and the guy from the video seemed to be more concerned about that, rather than the first part of the statement, which you chose to address. He does recognize that the document says Muslims "profess" to hold the faith of Abraham, so I am not sure you actually addressed his point. His issue is that we claim unity with them.. So I think what he is implying can be summed up in this question: Can we claim unity in worship and adoration if we do not actually have unity in faith, as you admit in your rebuttal?
By the way, I recently came across a possible explanation of this from Tim Gordon's channel, where he mentions (although does not necessarily champion the point) that the definite article "the" does not exist in the Latin, so maybe we can transliterate it to say "...they adore one merciful God..." which is technically not wrong I guess?

I would agree it has been infiltrated but I still find it difficult to believe that has happened to the point of being defected, because therefore everything we believe about the church would be wrong.. and we'd have to leave the church. The church cannot teach something magisterially that is in error.
I can't really say much about that, but one thing is certain, I'll not abandon the Church... It's Christ Church, the Church that he founded and that he intended for us to belong to, so I trust in him and I'm hopeful that one day everything will come together and these wicked men will be expelled for good.

Since my birth, I grew up following the Roman Catholic doctrine, belief and practices until the day I got 'born again in my spirit' when I prayed the 'prayer of justification' in the Name of the Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. On that day of my new birth, instantly I stopped drinking alcoholic drinks and smoking at the 'same time', for THE LORD had REMOVED from within me the desire of it. The Roman Catholic Church is HEAVILY CONTAMINATED with FALSE doctrine, beliefs and practices ( including traditions ) that makes it "ABOMINABLE" before God. I feel like most Protestant pastors/leaders have certain pride because they know that, unlike the Catholic Church, they have more competition within Protestantism itself. I have a question for this ( Josh )? In Acts 10, we read about a man, a centurion, a gentile ( uncirmcumcised ), anyway, we read that this Cornelius was a devout person and we know that he was not a Jew, so my question to you Josh, to which God ( or god ) was Cornelius praying? If you tell me that he was praying to the true God, then how come he was called a gentile? uncircumcised? an enemy of the Jews? Anf if he was not praying to the true God, then how come the angel appeared to him and told him that his prayers and his alms have ascended as a memorial before God?

Sometimes it all you have got is the Bible. It is the catholic church that has seemed to put that book on the back self in order to push its views and doctrine to supersede its contents and has pursued those that have used it as the foundation for their faith.

Regarding the letter Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he wasn't specifically referring to a revealed truth; his statement was in reference to the disputes they were having and wanted to make sure there were no misrepresentations of his messsage.
