      Beni is the Goddess of Shamisen and Yuko is one of the finest vocalists on the planet. Machiya's vocals are surprisingly goo and as a whole, the group has no weaknesses.

    Wagakki Band is so good. Everyone loves Beni on the shamisen... and I love Suzuhana! She is so beautiful, and her singing is mesmerizing! The whole band is top-level talent. I love the mix of traditional and modern instruments. The more songs you listen to... the more you will like them. They have lots of great videos on RUclips, search and watch them all!

    Nice reaction and this band is sort of a project where some of the best musicians for their instruments (traditional Japanese and western) got together to make covers and it grew from there. Their music is a blend of Japanese and modern.

    Good reaction on Wagakki Band! "Wa" means Japanese as an ethnic group, "Gakki" means music instruments. The band was formed on the idea of Yuko, a great musician and vocalist. The other female member Beni is a great Shamisen player. Shamisen is a 3-string instrument that is difficult to master because it is fretless. The 3-string instruments are used in Japan, China, and other eastern Asian region. Traditionally, Japanese use a pick (bachi) to play Shamisen while Chinese use fingertip protectors to play the 3-strings.

  • @ShikataGaNai100
    @ShikataGaNai100 3 года назад +3

    Beni's tsugaru shamisen is a game changer. I mean, imagine playing a 3-string banjo with a putty knife...LOL). BTW, both Beni and Yuko post videos about all sorts of stuff. There is even one of Beni bungee jumping off a bridge. Like all Japanese bands, they are also good friends off-stage.

    Hey! I'm glad you checked them out. It seems you already got a bunch of suggestions for other songs. The collabs with Amy Lee are cool. I'm not sure if they're going to be the right "cup of tea" for you to heve them on your daily playlist though. The same happens to me with some other really good bands.

    If you like folk rock/metal, I recommend russian band Грай and ukrainian Свентояр. ;) Свентояр has cover version of Limp Bizkit song "Boiler", melody is from that song but lyrics are from ukrainian folk song "Крашен Вечiр", this is also title of this cover, amazing cover. From Грай amazing song is "В Объятиях Мары", really beautiful song.

    While I do love me some Wagakki Band now and again, the Japanese bands I listen most to are without a doubt Maximum the Hormone and Babymetal. You really need to listen to more of MTH, and you are way overdue on Babymetal! But whatever you do, do not start with "Gimme Chocolate". Do "Megitsune" or "Road of Resistance" or "Rondo of Nightmare". You are not ready for "Gimme Chocolate" yet.

    • @IVITURNERIVI
      @IVITURNERIVI  3 года назад +1

      I know of babymetal but not seen any of their music videos, I’ll check them out while bopping to their music haha! Any suggestions for MTH?!

    • @egodreas
      @egodreas 3 года назад +1

      @@IVITURNERIVI While Babymetal has some excellent music videos, they are even better live. Their shows are amazing, and the Kami Band backing them makes everything sound so much better than the studio versions. So while the music video of "Megitsune" is excellent enough to warrant a reaction, I would recommend the official "Live in Japan" performance of "Road of Resistance", and the Budokan Black Night performance of "Rondo of Nightmare" (with the "Mischief of the Metal Gods" intro). You will not regret it, I can assure you! But do use a watermark on the video, or something, or you are likely to get blocked.
      For Maximum the Hormone, I would probably recommend either "Yoshū Fukushū" ("Preliminary Revenge"), "A.L.I.E.N", or one of the self-titled songs "Maximum the Hormone" or "Maximum the Hormone II". Whichever one you pick, you will immediately want to see the rest :-D

      Awesome! Thanks for the info 😁😁 before you replied I actually recorded a reaction to MTH - Hungry Pride which is due out in about half hour haha, I’ll check out the others including the babymetal ones, I’ll keep my eyes open though just in case it gets blocked haha

  • @hiawatha.g

    “Wagakki” essentially means “traditional instruments”. The band was founded by the singer, SUZUHANA Yuko. The “lute” thing is a Shamisen. The “harp” thing is a Koto. The “flute thing” is a shakuhachi. Yes, you’ve heard these instruments a million times, in movie soundtracks, when they want to convey a Japanese atmosphere. What can I say? America may be the land of innovation in tech, but in music no one here cares any more. All the action has moved to Europe and Japan. Here is a video that really lets you see up close all the instruments and how they work together: ruclips.net/video/Q2meWkWqc-I/видео.html It was originally written for a “Vocaloid” which is essentially a virtual singer AI.

    • @TheCyberMantis

      I am in the USA. I LOVE Wagakki Band. Suzuhana is such an amazing singer. And everyone loves Beni! The whole band is top-level talent. They are a super-group. I go back and forth between LOVEBITES and WAGAKKI BAND. My two favorite bands right now.

  • @repobob
    @repobob 3 года назад +4

    Small tip, if you press C while on the video, if there are any captions, it will tell you and then if it is not in the right language, you can use the gear icon to auto translate but it is pretty hit and miss. I have seen it translate "Miyako" (Guitarist's name of Lovebites) to "my volcano" in a video.
    I have been following Beni Ninagawa's personal channel since 2013, she is the Shamisen player (banjo looking instrument) cause she was doing covers of anime songs. She is a master on it. The singer Yuko is the founder of the band and has trained in the art of fan theatre and dance.

      Beni is really cool! Her channel is very fun too! A shame she's not been adding English subtitles lately. She was very enthusiastic at the begining of this year, always trying some English 😁 Maybe she needs more fans to encourage her.

    Hahaha...you look like you are kind of reluctant to show your feeling. I understand everyone has own preference. It is totally alright if they are not at your taste, they are a bit extraordinary. I love honesty. But you might like them a little bit better with the live album Premium Symphonic Night. Rock + Japanese folk music + orchestra, doesn't it sound your curiosity? Have a good one.

    Your pronunciation wasn't the worst. You are actually pronouncing all the vowels more or less right. The KK in wagakki basically just creates a short pause before the actual k sound, lengthening it out. In akatsuki, the u basically disappears when pronouncing it in regular speech. It sounds more like "akatski". The technical term is the vowel becomes "devoiced", meaning your vocal folds completely stop vibrating. The only other thing that's not correct about your pronunciation is the stresses on different syllables, but explaining the differences there is beyond the depth of a RUclips comment.
