    You know, I've seen this video a million times. You were one of my inspirations to start collecting phal species. I've been trying to get this one in my collection but it's not so easy to find orchids in Canada. We have such little orchid nurseries here. :( I wish you a wonderful holiday, my dear! All the best to you, your plants and your family :) xoxo

      Aaaw, thank you for your kind words, Samantha! :) Here, these primary hybrids are available for a year or so and then again after a few years when new flasks or young plants come either from Thailand or from private persons. I'm sure you'll find one one day - I'll keep my fingers crossed. Have a wonderful holiday season, all the best to you, your dogs and your loved ones, too! :)

    Thanks Bumblebee, I want to go with small size phalaenopsis, however I would also want those with smaller foliage. Any suggestions ?

    • @bumblebeesorchids3408
      @bumblebeesorchids3408  3 года назад

      Hi Andre! Phal. equestris is one of my all time favourite species with smaller foliage. Personally I don't go for miniature species for the windowsill (except Phal. parishii, but mith mediocre success), but for the more robust primary hybrids. Wilsonii and braceana hybrids are very pretty. Happy growing! :)

    Beautiful! Thanks for doing this video. I always was fascinated by this phal and was wondering if it has a nice fragrance. There is another phal i think species phal that flowers look like this one but orangish yellow brown and pink colour flower , don't remember the name but i saw it in Schwarter website. Do you know anything about that one ? does it smell?

    • @bumblebeesorchids3408
      @bumblebeesorchids3408  8 лет назад

      +MaryG Orchids Thank you, Mary! :) Maybe Phal. braceana x mannii (Sienna)? I think it could be fragrant because of braceana, but I have never seen or smelled one in person.

    The blooms are so beautiful! It's so unique and pretty. Are the leaves always as soft as in the old video? The small spots on the leaves are very cute. It's a very nice plant. :) Thanks for making this video! :) Can this one stand direct sunlight? I noticed in another of your videos some of your phals are in the sunlight. It's of course different with each phal species and its hybrids, and they need different amounts of light. I'm still thinking what kind of primary hybrid(s) I would like to have, and which windows would be more appropriated for them. Our winters are long and dark, and most of my orchids are under lights during the winter, except for the phal. crosses, paphiopedilums, trichopilia and some dendrobiums.

    • @bumblebeesorchids3408
      @bumblebeesorchids3408  8 лет назад

      +Orchids & a Dutchy Thank you. :) The leaves are very soft and flexible when they're young, they stiffen when they mature. Vandas, Cattleyas and Phals are together on this windowsill. I think I've never had sunburn in Phals, actually even my Vandas are more susceptible for sunburn, I don't know why, maybe because of the lower water content of their leaves. At the moment they are receiving direct sunlight. I have very thin curtains that I used last summer and will maybe use again this summer. But they are not thicker than fly screens.
      Although I have different primary hybrids I cannot say which one would accept the lowest light levels, because most of them have always received a lot of light here. I've read that Phal. gigantea and Doritaenopsis hybrids need more light in general. But I'm sure every Phal. would receive enough light next to your Brassavola nodosa for example. I think you should just buy what you like and give it a try. :) Phal. mannii 'Black' x lueddemaniana 'Taiwan Red' (strong plants with many spikes, fragrant) is very nice, but you mentioned that you'd like to have a fragrant summer bloomer and I'm not sure if that one blooms more than once a year. I think Phal. bellina x mannii can bloom more than once a year. Do you have some in mind already?

    • @sunahyun6339
      @sunahyun6339 8 лет назад

      +Bumblebee I have Pal Samara and Mariae. They both love direct sun in winter and in summer slightly shaded. Complex hybrids will get sun burned. I noticed liked yours that more light and water it gets more spikes it produces. They are definitely different than other complex hybrids.

      Bumblebee I was just a moment ago looking at pictures of these same exact crosses! So it's so funny that now when I read your comment you mentioned the exact same ones! :) They are the first choices in my list! I guess I will end up buying less plants then I wanted because we have to save some expenses. So I will have to narrow down to a few favorite plants. It's funny, the longer I take to decide on my order from Karge, the more plants I find from the list. I put a X close to their names, and I end up with a long list of "must-have" plants (and I think there is not even enough space for all). And then there are the primary crosses of phals from Schwerter too. And the European project plant thing (are you going to join the project?). I wonder if some phals just adapt to higher light levels. I have a keiki of that phal that might be Cassandra, that gets a lot more light than the mother plant, even direct sunlight, and looks happy. But the mother plant didn't look too happy when she was under lights with the cattleyas. Some older leaves got papery dry. Maybe the one I'm growing from a keiki will grow up already used to more light and won't have problems.

      +Orchids & a Dutchy That's funny! :D I picked a Phal. mannii x lueddemanniana and had a hard time choosing one, because they were all strong and pretty. I didn't buy one in the end, because I listened to the voice of reason. Phal. venosa x javanica is also nice. I can imagine how hard it is to choose from all the lists. :D
      Rachel told me about the project, but I weighed up pros and cons and decided against it. :/ But I think it will be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to seeing your videos.
      The transition from lower to higher light levels can be difficult and last summer when it was very hot and dry I remember one Phal. that did suffer although it was used to higher light levels, it yellowed quite a bit. I had to place it farther away from the window, today it's green again. :)

      Hi again! I was watching the video again, and this is such a beautiful cross. When you visited Schwerter they had so many of this cross. I wonder if they really don't have it anymore (it's not on their webpage nor the list). Could they have something that is not listed? Maybe this is such a popular cross that it ended already. How strong is the fragrance?`This is so nice. Another one of those rare phals whose blooms change colours. :) I'm still trying to decide what I would like to order next. Of course I have more plants on my wishlist than space to grow them. :) I love the little spots on the leaves. It's a pretty plant.
