- Robbie Williams in his first live TV interview after leaving Take That, April 12th 1996. This was rebroadcast about 6 hours later, with bits of this interview edited out due to legal reasons. So here it is as broadcast live.
Recorded by me from Digital FreeView receiver, scart connected into Philips HiFi VHS VCR, recording at SP onto brand new Scotch EG Plus E180 tape. I recorded the full 60min show, other guests in the studio were The Wannadies, Manic Street Preachers, Skunk Anansie, Presidents of the USA, The Cranberries and Ron Atkinson. Also seen doing skits were Cher and Ronnie Fraser.

@@car_93 I do, but all my tapes are in storage right now, I'll dig more out soon.
What a great show 90s TV entertainment after school was the best.
Robbie handled that well. Imagine having to go onto a TV show and promote yourself when you've not got anything to promote because you're not allowed to legally discuss anything of interest.
Effectively his new career was on hold before he'd even started it.
Yeah that 2 year freeze period after Take That had to have sucked
So charismatic
Off his face on drugs
@@paddymuppy Most musicians are during the height of their fame… and our musical landscape is richer for it
Bring back tfi . I was in my early 20 s when this was big Friday viewing . Always reminds me of my Friday nights out . Great memories❤😁
Im sure if it came back now, it would be sanitised for all the PC snowflakes
@@ScottishTeeVee LOL. I can tell you grew up during those times. You're probably right though...
Robbie is obviously a massive fan of Morecambe & Wise - he's taking off Eric Morecambe. Great sense of humour!
Sweet face sweet voice always so talented so cute so beautiful Robbie always believe in his self that brilliant 🤩 💕🎵🎤
Love you Robbie all my heart💋💋💋💋💋
You know times are difficult when you feel the need to send an open letter to the sun.
On the front of it, his ego was on fire, though behind the scenes he was a mess. Hard for people to see at the time, especially with the media in full force. Later they could all tell the full story of it.
There I say, and I'm a Beatles fan in my 30s and don't throw this around easily. But Robbie has a John Lennon-style charisma about him here. And yes I know Robbie isn't a patch on John songwriting, etc, wise. But he has a cheeky charm and delivery similar to 70s Lennon.
And a green top like Lennon wore on Cavett!
It's remarkable how confident (to say the least) Robbie was. You can tell he hung out with the Gallaghers from time to time 😉. He really wanted to crush everything and everyone (except Mark Owen) who had anything to do with Take That and probably thought of himself as already being the biggest thing in the UK, when in reality he hadn't released a piece of music yet and wasn't even the creative head of Take That before, so there was no reason for him to act the way he did, but ironically this interview already shows his showmanship. When I watch some of his performances or interviews from that time, I sometimes think to myself that his behavior was at least worth something, because he obviously became even bigger than Take That ever was before 😀.
Then in 2006 when Take That reformed they became almost as big as him. So no wonder decided to rejoin them in 2010 and work on a new album with them. When he left again in 2011 the split was far more amicable than in 1995. And he went on to co-write the song Candy with his former rival Gary Barlow which was a massive hit.
Also cocaine
The giant pupils also suggest his confidence might have also been chemically influenced
I wish I knew him before his docu. I mean I'd heard his music and I knew he was a little "off the wall" back in the day but now that I've seen the docu I need to understand more. Like..why was take that in court??
presumably he was fighting over royalties owed to him for singing on the songs on the greatest hits and the record company were disputing this and trying to block it, arguing he had broken the contract and thereby waived his royalties...I'm only conjecturing tho @@samanthahardymckeag8219
Oh I love you baby💖💖💖💖
I love how Robbie is doing this interview with a cutout of him with Take That right next to a picture of Oasis behind him 😂
Robbie is brilliant here. Absolutely brilliant!
What a great interview, this must be when he took a few years off between Take That and his solo career.
he left in Jul '95, this interview was Apr '96, so about 9 months.
Hardly a great interview!! He was a pratt in those days!!😂
@@user-yu7ud9yb2l Did we watch the same footage?
I'm not a massive Robbie fan i like a few of his songs that's about it. But i have a lot of respect for him. Nobody really gave him a chance and back in 96 people were waiting for him to flop and he hadn't even released his debut yet. He could've stayed in Take that and continued being a back up singer in Gary Barlows shadow but he believed in himself and took a chance.
He became one of the biggest solo acts of the 90s and early 2000's actually released a few decent tunes & is now arguably bigger then Gary Barlow ever was. I know they forced him out cause he was a mess at the time but in my opinion he was wanting that to happen hence why he was partying at Glastonbury and doing interviews by himself as he just got sick of the whole 90's boyband scene.
Just shows if you believe in yourself you never know what you might achieve
The Robbie is the King of the King
Robbie is so on a spiral here and people are praising him. 😢
He is somewhat responsible for his state and was enjoying himself on some levels. It’s rock n roll it’s dangerous , he dived in and got the highs and lows, also we have hindsight we know he has a happy family life now etc and still has an amazing career
He is a young millionaire living the dream. My heart aches for him xoxox
he is 22 here. 22 and already out of the band. remarkable.
Well at least Robbie got to make music he wanted to make
After the history Robbie was right xx
I always think Robbie is a good loyal ladb
Robbie reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. I could list those things here but I cba.
give it a rest
@@plym06 Why should I?
Just as well none of us care mate🙄🤣🤣
@@NH-bz9jv And I dont care if you don't care either. So touche, lad.
@@ashleelmb then everything is good in world isn’t it lad. Have a great life imagining you are Robbie Williams, and keep taking those meds, ciao😘
A better time
Some good coke round Hammersmith in the 90s
How time flyes I remember all theses times !!! Wasn't a take that fan not one bit .all your ever heard at that time . How Gary was going to be the next george Michael , Wasn't even a robbie fan at that time . How wrong everyone was . He was amazing . When things started to fly .what a very talented guy .people laughed .tock the piss . How wrong so many people were . Had it all very wrong. I didn't like any of the take that first lot .but when they came back they are so great .just so happy they are all happy and made up .
Most of the crowd probably thought his career would evaporate into the ether. The opposite happened.
Robbie wasn't fat for that long. He had a very strong Potteries accent as well.
He is a millionaire intelligent Robbie Williams.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Wow
"I've written about 30 songs." Sure
He actually had, though. Some of those very early, pre-Guy Chambers songs have been included on the 25th Anniversary Edition of Life Thru a Lens, released a couple of years ago, so they are out there now to be heard. You can hear from them that he hadn’t quite worked out what his sound was going to be.
He owes Guy Chambers big time.
He should have stayed in his band.
Why wasn’t his single allowed to be released? and which single was is?
I think his first single was a cover of a George Michael song.
Freedom, I think.
@@TheRetroManRandySavage ah maybe you’re right. I recall him looking portly and with his dyed hair in that video
He had to wait for his contract with the band/record label to run out for him to release his single. He quit the band, but he was still with his record label under contract. The record label didn't want to release any new song or give him a new contract, so he had to wait.
The Take That contract he signed had a leaving members’ clause that stopped anyone who left from releasing ‘competing’ work, which basically meant any music at all, while the band was still active. It also automatically signed him to the same record label as a solo artist. He went to court to try and break the contract but had to give up due to the cost. After the bad broke up he managed to get released from the solo contract on condition that he not release any music before Gary Barlow did - since RCA were betting that Gary was going to be the big solo star.

Zajímavé
And the answer is A cocaine
I watched him a couple of years ago around Xmas time on the tv and his voice was cringingly bad
Robbie is coked beyond belief here.
People think he's only recently turned into a bellend but this proves otherwise

Cocaine. It's a helluva drug.
Just lucky that he had 2 brilliant song writers writing for him, Gary Barlow and Guy Chambers because other than a bit of stage presence he talentless
Spot on.
what show is this ?
11 seconds into the video, it's stated onscreen..
Tfi Friday
Some people are just born annoying. It is not Robbie’s fault. Genetics can be a bitch sometimes. We should pray for him.
