A film with a quiet pace which nevertheless really manages to describe the murky waters in which an intelligence organisation operates. Even the most crucial matters are discussed with a typically British elevated calm, which is not least carried forward by the excellent Robert Morley as Doctor Percival.

"Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky-tacky; Little boxes, Little boxes, Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one, And a blue one and a yellow one. And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses all go to the university. And they all get put in boxes, little boxes all the same
And there's doctors and there's lawyers, And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same"

At 1:12:12 the protagonist uses a Cartier pen, Pasha de Cartier, Royale Blue. It is worth US$5000 today. It is rare, limited numbered edition. I have also seen the beloved Joop Dodeder as Commissar Cornelis Muller (e.g. at 45:00). He played the most famous Dutch comedian role ever.

Nicol Williamson is a good actor. And I was intrigued by his role as Merlin in King Arthur's court in the "Excaliber," which has many terrific actors and actresses.

Thomas Nicol Williamson[1] (14 September 1936 - 16 December 2011) was a British actor. He was once described by playwright John Osborne as "the greatest actor since Marlon Brando". He was also described by Samuel Beckett as "touched by genius" and viewed by many critics as "the Hamlet of his generation" during the late 1960s.

Many excellent actors (Williamson, Gielgud, Attenborough, Morley, Jacobi, and the who's who of British character actors). But Iman as Bantu? Really? "All Africans are the same" are they??? Um: NO! Iman is Somali and looks every stunning bit of it. It would be like casting Sophia Loren as a Finn or a Scot. Beside, Iman couldn't act to save her life. She's stunning, but talentless, wooden, and all the more obviously so next to the brilliant Williamson. And the lighting (e.g.14:13 and 19:42) is APPALLING!!! The sound isn't a hellofalot better. Overall, a DUD. Which is shame, because it's a good story.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
