Thanks Vera. I never considered it before but describing trans health as frontier medicine really puts it into perspective (other than systemic transphobia) why we face difficulty in finding the right HRT plan and why doctors act the way they do

Give to the poor homeless and starving children in Africa, sick and disabled . I LOVE my community. Marisa xx

Totally agree, I love HRT it makes me feel complete. When I started I did loads of research but even then there are surprises. The thing no one mentioned was the impact it has on cardio vascular endurance…. It drops off a cliff at about 3 months which I did not expect. We have to work so much harder than men to get the same performance. That was the biggest shock- it’s not just strength- which if you train decreases very gradually.

You're lucky to live somewhere where you are allowed to work with your doctor, and the doctor allowed to prescribe things that are out of the mainstream.
Where I live the only hormones allowed by law to be prescribed are progesteron and oestradiol. Anything else is simply unavailable from pharmacies, can't be prescribed by doctors, can't be imported legally (as no prescription drugs can be imported legally except by pharmacies).
The only thing doctors are allowed to do (within limits no doubt) is play with the dose.
What helps is that the only doctors allowed to prescribe it are a very small number who are specifically trained in transgender endocrinology, so you're not dealing with doctors who don't know what they're doing (which of course also leads to multi-year waiting lists, but that's for another day).
There is a push to remove those restrictions and go from a very strictly controlled system where only a very few clinics employing a very few doctors are allowed to do transgender care towards letting it all open to any psychologist and endocrinologist, but I don't think that's a good idea either.
Sure it will largely eliminate the waiting lists, but the incidence of problems in transitions, as well as the number of detransitioning people (especially young ones) is going to go through the roof as a result.

5:30 Yeah, even in Denmark you basically should actually do this imo. The danish system can leave some people stranded for 3+ years (in my case 10 years). A lot of people DIY before getting into the system, and honestly I regret it massively that I didn't since I feel like I wasted a decade of my life waiting. Besides, Denmark basically only offers tablets which are horrible and some trans women do not metabolize them correctly leading to extremely low levels. So even if you get approved through the legal means there is a chance that the medication will not work for you.
I cannot recommend the legal pathways through the system here. I do not know about the rest of Europe but so far I have not heard of a place where DIY would not just be the safer option as long as you have access to bloodwork.
As someone with a degree in medicinal chemistry I hate having to make that recommendation, but the government options most places are extreme medical malpractice and I am so disgusted by it since it is my field of work.

Unfortunately it's not a reliable way to get transition funds. No harm in trying lots of people do it, but I wouldn't count on it. Early in my transition, I made a gofundme that a good number of friends donated which helped a lot. But I've never had anyone donate to my venmo off youtube. It's mostly there as a just-in-case and a placeholder while I wait to have a big enough platform to start a patreon.

DIY HRT isn't illegal i don't know why or were you heard that, but all hormones needed for HRT are non-prescription so you can receive them over the counter legally (except for testosterone), but love you video, we defiantly need or of HRT explaining --- also i really useful resource, it is for DIY HRT, but explains HRT really well and would recommend understanding it before going to a doctor ---- obviously don't do DIY HRT, unless you absolutely have to, it can be dangerous be safe, and BLOOD test if you do.

With the situation in most places (at least in Europe) I would not say to only do DIY only if you absolutely have to. A lot of people start DIY in my country (Denmark) before getting on a government program due to the waitlists and insane approval process. Make sure to find a very supportive doctor who is willing to request blood work for you, or find other ways to get blood work done, because you really do not want to try to navigate this blindly.
I could have saved myself 10 years of waiting had I gone DIY and worst thing was that here you are only offered the tablet form of estrogen which some people do not metabolize correctly leading to extremely low levels (I had that issue and was forced to DIY even after that 10 year way of wanting to do things by the books).
I do not think it is fair to demonize DIY HRT in our current political environment where the government options are pretty much objectively more dangerous than the DIY options, not to mention the danger of the insane wait times.

Transmedicalists a.k.a. truscum are hateful to their fellow trans people. They want to go back to the old Harry Benjamin scale (tiers 5 and 6) because they're mad at younger generation trans people for having easier access to what these Boomers had to act, lie, and manipulate in order to achieve (most truscum are Boomers and older). They want to gatekeep their fellow trans people and reject nonbinary people who use the transgender label. Don't believe their lies. They are bully tactics designed to gaslight and invalidate your transness, dismissing your pain for their own self-gratification. No matter what a transmed says, YOU ARE TRANS ENOUGH. Transmedicalism is a supremacist concept; don't believe in or align with it. Don't give transmeds the time of day no matter what they do or say. This isn't the Harry Benjamin era anymore.

@@DarDarBinks1986 thanks for your supporting words! I identify as trans and NB and I watched a vid by a transwoman about "the evolution of trans" or something like that (Honestly I should have known the kind of hateful context from the title). In this vid she was, like you said, kinda looking down on the "current" trans generation that in her words was dictating what I meant to be nonbinary (I really disliked this phrasing). In a comment I adressed this sort of gatekeeping position that she took in her vid and so followed the awful interaction in the comments.

    • @zealdrifter
      @zealdrifter  2 года назад +7

No, I do not align with the label transmedicalism or generally people that call themselves transmedicalists. As AirCooledGirl2006 mentioned, transmeds are often quite hateful toward trans people who don't fit into their concept of what a trans person "should" be, and this is usually quite exclusionary toward nonbinary people. You don't need to undergo or desire a binary medical transition for your gender identity to be legitimate or to be transgender.
My thesis with this video is that the "right" way to do HRT isn't some prescriptive cookie cutter medical treatment that will "correctly" feminize you; the right way is to do your own research and work with your doctor (if you have one) find a treatment plan that address your unique body and needs.

Is it because I didn't have a stereotypically feminine childhood? Is it because I'm a lesbian and not straight? Aunt "Maude" even tried to tell me I was confused and that I "convinced" myself I was trans within the last seven years or so. I was ALWAYS trans! I was ALWAYS a misidentified girl. This is how I felt when I was a little kid, an adolescent, a teen, a young adult, and how I'll always feel about myself. Aunt Maude even once told me she always thought I was "100% male". My general reply would be: "If you are not in my place you can't know my experiences and feelings and you certainly shouldn't tell me off for what I am or what I'm not". But ofc that's not that easy to tell to others. Other people (certainly when it comes to lgbt related things) think that they know you better than you know yourself. Obv that's wrong, but also the difficult thing to deal with when coming out. And this can be harmful also, mainly when you yourself would already be doubting the validity of your own "transness".
