    Couple weeks after I made my transition from low carb to keto, I found I can't do 3 meals a day, dinner made me bloated and I can't sleep at night, eventually I eat only breakfast and lunch. I didn't even know that was call intermittent fasting. My body just adapt to the 18/6 eating window naturally and "correct" my eating frequency. It's amazing.

I have done every diet known to man, I am hypothyroid so struggle terribley trying to lose weight even though my bloods are always 'within range' Oh and I'm in the menopause 🙄. I also have no gallbladder due to gallstones. I have gained nearly 28lbs since the surgery to have it removed! I also have reactive hypoglycaemia which is no good for a sugar addict, who suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. I really enjoyed the comments about absorbing information so you can figure out how to work around your own issues, mental and physical. When you are older, and not in great physical shape, fighting your own metabolism can be very frustrating. Doing keto with IF has helped me get on the path, exercising where I can is helping, but key is finding ways to switch things up if you do stall, so you can get yourself moving again. Just don’t give up, sit back into your recliner and turn sedentary again. I’m 57, 6 months in keto, 50 lbs down (halfway to ultimate goal), and healthier than I’ve been in at least a decade. Thank you Dr. Berg!

    • @matthewronson5218
      @matthewronson5218 5 лет назад +4

      Good on you Catherine. A mindset of 'it's about living and eating healthy and the rest will follow' is key. Then it's easier to see plateaus as part of the process (same with bodybuilders).
      If it goes over long as this gentleman said, it's the view of the body is telling you it needs something else (or less of something else), and determining this required one knowing oneself sufficiently to find any points of obstruction.

    • @dana102083

      It's so important to look at our eating issues around stress and past traumas both big and small. Peeling away the carbs exposes these things and if not taken care of, you won't be reaching all your goals effectively or at all. We gotta set ourselves up for success! I remind people I was a nearly 300lb lady that could eat a bowl of icing. I still get pangs to binge, but I think about it, eat something high fat, give one serving and get full, or drink salt water and don't need any food. What I don't do is eat something sweet when I want to binge. I leave whip cream and berries a few days a week, or make something for shark week to avoid binge pangs. The struggle is real. I've dropped 75lbs my first year with no exercise and a physical condition that impairs my mobility greatly, and am 5 lbs away from goal weight. I've been eating intuitively since May and that has helped me learn I can really control my cravings and that was really empowering. I trust my choices but know I'm still an addict and keto is my guide map! :)

      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 5 лет назад +8

      Yep. I agree. I don't think the plan from the get-go with BL was to have people lose weight in ANY way possible, ...and their Health be Damned!!!Lol.😁 Nope, I feel they went with what they knew, which seems like it was 'low-calorie low-fat high-carb and frequent but very small meals!' Oh, and INTENSE and lonnng never ending Exercise!
      Of course that caused very frequent insulin spikes and created more insulin resistance, and bringing the contestants metabolism to an all time low and sluggish state. As you can hear this man Rob explain, that he stayed on a caloric restricted diet and was eating pretty clean, but continued to stack on the weight again! His metabolism was all messed up. So happy for him that he found Dr. Bergs videos and started his way back to health by simply learning about keto and intermittent fasting, and applying small changes to his diet at first.
      Yes, both he and Dr. Berg showed respect and constraint.Good on them!!😉

    It is nice to hear two gentlemen discuss what works for them in terms of healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Neither said anything inflammatory that would be regretted after the interview is broadcast. This is a good example of how to make healthy changes in your lifestyle. Most people are so rushed just making a living that good nutrition gets overlooked.
    The food pyramid established so long ago is crumbling from it's own weight. The foundation of grains is being crushed by glyphosate and insulin resistance. Who will be industrious enough to rebuild the food pyramid to guide future generations to better health than what we have experienced in the preceding 5 decades?

    People’s reactions to a change in their preconceived notions are predictable. The idea of a high fat diet doesn’t align with their schemas. This is why a person like Jillian Michaels is fighting this battle.
    “First people ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you.”

    • @armadillotoe
      @armadillotoe 5 лет назад +12

      The reason she is fighting against keto, is you don't have to buy anything but food to do the ketogenic diet. There are no powders, pills, or magic potions needed. Meters and test strips are completely optional too. Just eat low carb, and you will enter ketosis. If you want to accurately keep track of your food intake, use a free nutritional app, and buy a digital kitchen scale.

    • @pat5225
      @pat5225 5 лет назад +14

      @Lonao Not true at all. Insulin resistance plays a big role in one's ability to lose weight. There is much more to it than simple calories in vs calories out. I Ongoing calorie restriction eventually takes a toll on your metabolism and it gets to the point that a reduced calorie meal has no effect. That is what happened to me until I found Keto and IF to heal my metabolism. It used to be very easy for me to lose weight but now only Keto and IF works for me.

      when fasting insulin goes down. when insulin is down you start loosing weight. it helps also to regulate insulin in general especially for diabetics and pre-diabetics who have insulin super high. insulin is an hormone rsponsible for the use of nutriments in our body and store fat as for survival purposes. in our societies , it is always high in our body. in fact no mamals is supposed to eat 6 meals a day. when a dog is sick because of food, they ask you to feed him once a day ....I was diabetic tye II, lost 40 ponds . and I am on medication as a kidney transplanted. I go to the gym in a fasted state and still gained muscle . Fasting boost testosterone and other beneficial hormones...

      Yep, I don't know if they changed things on the show after Jill left, but I remember former contestants saying that they were given caffeine pills (which are basically what diet pills are) & they were forced to fast from water close to their weigh-ins in order to be lighter. They were also on very strict low calorie diets, & just as this man admitted worked out for several hours a day.
      I don't know if this man is being entirely truthful, or if the show started changing things once former contestants started ratting them out, but this show looks at health in a very commercialized way. & I feel so bad that the former contestants were never taught how to have a healthy lifestyle, but are instead taught to go from one extreme to the next, which is crash dieting. I guess it was just a game show after all.

    In late August of 2018 I had a health scare that turned out to be nothing, but I used it as a wake up call to get myself healthy. From that moment I started following Dr Berg's advice, I started to feel a lot better. I started with Dr. Berg's youtube videos to get educated and transformed my health for the better. I haven't reached all my goal yet, but I'm well on my way - thank you Dr Berg.
    When I started my new lifestyle, I went from two meals a day, but quickly graduated to having one huge salad every day, full of Cruciferous Vegetables and healthy fats. I must admit, I eat more protein than Dr. Berg recommends, but so far so good.
    The reason I'm commenting on this video is to first let everyone know that I like Dr Berg's advice and use his information as a part of my health education foundation, but I still have to challenge my mentors to improve my understanding of things.
    This is my question. Dr Burg says, "the presence of even a small amount of insulin blocks the body's ability to burn fat". If that's true, how are these people on The Biggest Loser, losing so much weight when they are constantly eating small meals throughout the day? Is there a point, that in the presence of insulin the body is still capable of burning fat? Don't get me wrong, I understand that going to the gym 6 hours a day isn't sustainable (unless you're a physical trainer), but doesn't the fat loss on the Biggest Loser, fly in the face of Dr Berg's theory of insulin blocking the body's ability to burn fat? Again, I feel great following a lot of what Dr Berg has said in his youtube videos and I will be forever grateful for his efforts, but I would like to understand and improve my health even further. Thank you for any responses to this question.

    I really don't like the repeated assertion that the only "healthy" version of keto is one that has a focus on lots of vegetables, fiber, and supplements and that a keto eating plan that focuses primarily on fatty meats and low to no fiber is somehow "less than" or not as healthy as when a lot of vegetables are being consumed. In my own personal experience after having been eating keto since 2012 with an emphasis on fatty meats like ribeye steak, other beef, cheese, and a heck of a lot of bacon and hardly any vegetables, I have repeated blood and urine test results that are perfect again and again, normal blood pressure, absolutely no sign of diabetes, and a resting heart rate in the 50s.
    I have never been more healthy, and you won't be able to convince me that the only way that I could somehow be healthier is to add all of the vegetables to my diet. They are simply not necessary for me to be healthy. The same goes for taking any kind of supplements. I do not take any supplements. Every single nutrient I need is in the meat that I am consuming.
    I keep hearing people talk about "good fats", and to me, the only fat that isn't good is artificial trans fats. Any fat that is produced by nature, like the fat in meats, is what we need to be eating.
    I do not track everything I eat, I don't worry about calories, and I am thriving. I feel like people try to somehow make keto appear healthy by saying that all these vegetables have to be eaten in order for it to be considered healthy and to appeal to a society who has been told over and over for the past 50 years that vegetables are healthy, so if our diet has lots of vegetables in it then we can convince people to do it and think that it's more healthy than if you choose to primarily focus on fatty cuts of meat.
    If my approach was somehow unhealthy, I feel that after doing it for the past 6.5 years that I would have started to show some signs that my body isn't healthy, but that simply isn't the case. I had a coronary artery calcium test done recently just to check to see if I had some risk, and my result was a perfect 0.
    I don't doubt that a keto diet that has a lot of low carb vegetables as a part of it can't be healthy, but I really hope that Dr. Berg will stop saying that eating lots of vegetables is the "healthier" version of keto. I don't think that it is. Stop being afraid of saturated fat. That is old dogma that just won't seem to go away, even with some in the keto community. Saturated fat is healthy, period, and I am living, breathing proof.
    Just for reference, I'm a male in my 50s. I started in 2012 at 415 pounds and lost my first 100 pounds in my first 9 months of doing keto, and have slowly transitioned to intermittent fasting and lately I have started water fasting for between 24 and 72 hours to tap into the benefits of autophagy. I've never felt better. Since that first 9 months I've taken off an additional 75 pounds and am still very slowly coming down. I have kept the weight off and plan to never go back to the evils of eating processed grains and sugar and "food" that comes in boxes. Never, ever again.

I don't have this big hard drum of a belly anymore. I can tie my shoes without struggling. Grant you I have a ways to go but I'm not looking so much at the scales as I am the way my clothes fit. I don't feel stuff in my clothes anymore. I can move more freely. I believe that I've lost the inner fat around my organs which really makes a difference in mobility. I'm not starving at all. Food is not a constant thought in my mind anymore. I feel satisfied. My thoughts are centered around living,family and projects that I want to do. Once you start eating the keto way you just feel better. You don't feel hungry all the time at all. You have more energy. Your more relaxed in life itself. Your not haunted by the thought of food all the time. It's a great feeling. It breaks the hold that food has had on you. Keto is a life changer in so many way.

    I did intermittent fasting for about 8 months when I was stuck in my postpartum weight loss. It continued to be a challenge as my grelin is strong and stubborn but I loved it. Then I got pregnant (which is awesome and miraculous as I have PCOS so we didn’t expect it without clomid 🙌🏻.)
    Now I have morning sickness and throw up when my stomach is empty and carbs feel the best on my stomach. 😕 This does convict me to at least focus on getting more veggies. Can’t wait for this first trimester to end!

    Incredible informational video. And it was done without bashing any other diets. Well done Dr. Berg. I hate diet bashing! Just because something works for you doesn't mean that it will work for others. "Eat to be healthy and the weight loss will follow" Amen!

    Excellent interview... I have learned much more than just eating healthy... I know the human anatomy so well, I now understand the function of every organ.

    This is so great to see. All these people who went on biggest looser and lost 100 plus pounds each, but almost all added the pounds back and then some.
    These folks are not losers, they were dedicated and each became quasi fitness experts, to have this happen is a big sign that what we are told about diet and exercise is lies.
    So glad this gentleman switched to Keto, and is finding long term success.
