    I'm a purist, but I'm old, like when arcades first began old. This is exactly what I hoped to find so I can play classic arcade titles without straining my eyes. I built my own but the 19 inch monitor is just hard without glasses. Thank God for technology or my games would be lost eventually over my sight. I prefer to hit a high score as I pass one day in my 90s.

  • @gideonbraver
    @gideonbraver 2 года назад +15

    If you're planning to use this with a PC / Emulation, its awesome. You can change your PC display settings from portrait to landscape. But be warned you cannot rotate the image 90 deg on the monitor itself - there is no such option in the menu. So its a no-go with upscalers like the RetroTink or OSSC. Super disappointing - especailly for the price. Nonetheless the image looks great, albeit its stuck in the vertical orientation.

      For my current cabinet, I use a Eizo 21” 4:3 monitor. For this one I could go into the Windows control panel and rotate the screen to have a better fit correct?

    • @2kBofFun
      @2kBofFun Год назад +1

      At this size/aspect rotation is useless. Remember Pac-Man, that only had a 19 inch vertical screen. In landscape vertical games stil are like 25 inch diagonal. What I do worry about, is that the subpixels are horizontal in the prefered orientation (landscape) and that looks pretty weird. Like you see vertical scanlines.

    Retro gaming was my first thought seeing this monitor. I have a Neo Geo AES and CD plus emulation setups, and would look amazing with arcade games.
    Another reason it appeals is that I can't really fit a wide curved or 2 x monitors, but I can go up.

    I do not recommend this monitor if you want to use it for a supergun set up and arcade PCB's. The reason being is that the monitor itself does not have options available to fill the screen or rotate the image. This will be totally dependent on the android box, raspberry pi you are using. The image on this monitor is nice and no input lag that I could notice. But filling the screen on horizontal or vertical games using arcade hardware is non existent. Just an FYI for anyone considering a purchase.

    Problem with this screen is it is really demanding on the computer, so no Raspberry Pi or thrifted MacMini to run your games here. The Eizo FlexScan EV2730Q is much easier to drive at 1920x1920, and because it is really square, and not almost square, there is no need to think about pivot either.
    But IMO best option is to keep an eye on classifieds and hunt down the golden era monitors on the cheap. Back in the days we had 26-27 inch 1920x1200 IPS/PVA LCD's with 100% AdobeRGB CCFL backlights, and those do 4:3 at 24 inch and 3:4 at 19 inch without rotating, giving you the exact size of original arcade CRT's, which had quite small (19") displays for the vertical games. They were made by LG, Dell, Eizo, NEC, so really good long lasting quality with backlights rated at 60000 hours.

      I was expecting 2K. It is pretty cheap for a niche product. I don't trust sub 300 displays anyway.
