  • Naughty Truck, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic K1500, gets some much needed new tail lights.
    I'm still wondering if there's an easy way to get LumaFusion to make an overlay title that runs the entire length of the video without having to manually drag it along until it fills the entire timeline. As you might imagine, that's more than kind of a drag. No pun intended.
    Also: yes I am aware that "UXWBill" watermark is a bit large. Small screens can be deceptive, and I wasn't feeling dedicated enough to re-edit, re-encode and re-upload the video.
    The original lights were some of the last ever made by GM's Guide Lamp division in Anderson, Indiana. While the wiring loom was made in China, the lenses were domestically produced. www.v8buick.co... (I'd draw your attention to the first post, and encourage you not to read all the replies, which devolved into politics quite quickly. While I have plenty of obnoxious opinions about almost everything, this channel is meant to be largely apolitical in its subject matter.)

    Always nice to see you post a video, even for something as mundane as a tail light swap. You are correct that an LED conversion would require a flasher unit swap as well.

    You made a wise choice to buy both sides, avoiding asymmetry. Meanwhile you've picked up spare bulbs and connectors to be used for high current voltage drop testing or as a spare.

    This brings to mind a trend that's become popular in the last 5 years or so where people replace the taillights on their GMT900s with aftermarket all-in-one units that resemble those of the stock tails found on the GMTK2 (2015+) series Escalade. The first time I saw it, I just thought, "oh, that's a nice Escalade," but as it passed and the GMC branding became apparent, I had to do a double-take and make sure that I wasn't having a stroke. Apparently, it's a thing, at least for the covered (utility) variants of the GMT900 series. I'm kind of surprised that someone didn't come up with a similar modification for the GMT800 series.

    Back of the truck looks 100% better now Bill. 👍 The new assemblies will probably last just as long as the originals. Since you have nice new lights, get you some reeims at Auto Zone and the nekkid woman mud flaps to really impress other drivers, as they cut you off and pass on the shoulder. Just normal driving in our state.

    Hi UXWBill, I have been watching your content for over 15 years. I discovered you and the key keeper by accident. The video that caught my attention involved you, the keykeeper, the red rocket, and a poor tower computer. If I remember right, you two took turns driving the red rocket over the computer until it was crushed. I had never seen anything like, i subscribed to your channel right then and there. Other vehicles I remember are the BBPOJ, the Cadillac, your S-10, There are several more cars that came and went. The roach palace content was enjoyable along with your caprice content and the key keepers green truck that yall had to be creative with key wise. You are very much a major part of my youtube history, and I hope to watch you for many more years.

    I had to replace the taillights on my 1997 Ram 1500 last year and I was able to find exact aftermarket replacements to the factory originals. I had looked for them a few years ago and only found either a left or a right but not both. This time around I found a package deal with both. The lights on my truck have a white bezel that matches my white truck and I could find black bezel lights all day but never white until last year. I was kind of surprised that I could still find factory original looking taillights for a 27 year old truck.

    I'd ask Lord Mr. Ford what he'd done, but this is a GM product. :-P
    Knowing how things go I am probably going to have to do a tail light on my father's car soon. I don't know what it is about that particular era of Hyundai Elantra, but they ALWAYS lose their left-most brake light, which his has finally done at just shy of 130000km (80778 miles).

    According to Scotty Kilmer, the replacements are made is Korea and are really good quality. He put new headlights on his wife's Lexus. Your light on the right looked like it needed to go top in first.

    • @uxwbill
      @uxwbill  2 дня назад +2

      These were definitely not made in Korea, although I have seen plenty that were. We tried inserting the lens in various ways. There's some body damage on the inner side of the body metal where the opening for the top screw is. It's not really obvious in the video like it is in real life. That probably didn't help.

    You'll be happy to know I saw a Buick Roadmaster Wagon on the road today. It was green with a unique burl wood pattern that I don't think was original. It also had dual chrome exhaust and suspension that was raised by a few inches, with rather knobby tires.
    p.s. I think some model years of this generation of GM pickup had amber rear turn signals?

  • @bakonfreek
    @bakonfreek 2 дня назад

    That mention of the load on the flashing relay..
    My car doesn't have LEDs in it (on the exterior anyway), but I think the flasher lamp might be the wrong one (I did buy it as a salvage when I was making much less money than I make now) because both lamps work, but it will rapid flash like one of them is burned out when I signal for a right turn, but only at night when I have the headlights on. I mean, it is a salvage, so it's possible the guys who did the rebuild missed some electrical crap, but it was a salvage because of hail damage and front end damage on the other side of the car so, I doubt they even touched the electricals.

    • @uxwbill
      @uxwbill  2 дня назад +2

      After making the video, it occurred to me that one could probably stick in a resistor of a suitable value and wattage and that should make it work properly. Getting the right flasher module is probably easier, though. I'd think any auto parts store would carry such.
      It's very likely you have a questionable ground somewhere, and thus a sneak path is getting set up through the signal bulb.

    • @bakonfreek
      @bakonfreek 2 дня назад

      Crappy ground wouldn’t surprise me. I know the rebuilders didn’t touch the electricals, but they may have messed with some of the lighting. I haven’t touched the thing with test gear yet, *maybe* I should get on that since I do own the car outright (I mean, if you don’t rip the thing open at least once, is it even actually yours?).

      Amber turn signal lights aren't required here in the US, so we get some vehicles that have them and others which don't. If there was an export version of this truck for the European market, it would have had a yellow lens for that lamp. GM has certainly done that for other models they exported, including the very rarely seen Euro-spec B bodies.
