The weapon from the beast is slightly different from Blood's Hook; it's a slashy/smashy, so it will benefit from your smashy weapons talents for a little more damage total. I think it's slightly better overall because of that, but the difference is marginal at best. I also don't think the new robe power is necessarily selfish. It boosts your spell power, so your heals & team bubble (if you have it from Sinbad) will be more potent in follow up rounds. The other stuff just makes you a slightly more potent repel boarders turret for guarding squishies.
