I would wanna jam with him maybe learn a thing or two from him. Although there are other rock stars I would prefer over River to learn the guitar from...he would still be like a cool friend to pick up some skills
what I thought at first then you realize he's acting. and his character is homeless of course he might not grab a bag, he probably walked to the store too
*Apparently* this was entirely unscripted, done in 2 takes and everyone there was a real employee or shopper (hence the attendant looking at and smiling into the camera 1:00 and the red trolly lady's intense stare in the background).
I love his boots I totally thought it was just regular life River walking in to grocery store. He yelled give me a call...he never got to experience having a cell phone...
He was so beautiful like a angel .He wasnt meant to b on earth long so we should of appreciated him and his work when we had the chance i hope your happy river where ever u r sweetheart xxxxx
It's incredible seeing him from the perspective of his character in the movie. Just fits in perfectly. I guess all for the best since that movie seems to be hit or miss with people. Definitely a awkward and strange topic for me but still loved the movie, despite it's subject he still manages to reel you into the film. You have to have true passion for that to connect through the screen I guess.
Melissa Davies I did read he would not do “non vegan” things even in his parts, like wearing leather, but not sure here. It was probably all improv and just grabbed what caught the eye. I just watched Silent Tongue, a movie he was in, and he “shoots” a bird and rips off its wings in the beginning of the movie, but there was a “spiritual” element to the scene, so... maybe there were few exceptions to his otherwise serious, strict vegan lifestyle.
@Veno Enoo it’s hard to explain. basically, not only did scott rejected and turned away his street friends, but also his sexuality for money and power. it is heartbreaking but it is what it is.
Unlike all of you... or most of you...? I don't thing the scene fits River's character in the rest of the movie. Yeah. it's cool and genuine, but too extrovert for his role
+Gal Tavor Interesting observation ! I think we all have a of Mike too introverted and weak (narcolepsy-statement to Scott). In reality there are other scenes in the film where the Mike extrovert emerges. Example: You think to come Mike is the extrovert in all of the scenes with Hans........
I noticed that too, the attitude definitely doesn't fit Mike's character. I think this take was never intended to be in the movie, they probably filmed it just for fun. We can only tell it was an outtake from MOPI cause he's wearing the same clothes he did in the BJ scene and 'cause he has the same haircut and the same chunky physique
*save brockhill* River Phoenix was already an Oscar-nominee by this time and had been in big hits like STAND BY ME and INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE. He had name recognition and was also a teen idol.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 What people don't realize is there weren't so many A Listers back then. Depending on what B Lister you were, you were seen as an A Lister. That was River.
@@Nominay Nah, I think the line is more blurred these days; the Internet and social media have cheapened fame. Back then, it was very difficult for a TV star to break into film, and movie actors saw it as a step down to do television. Also, while River Phoenix was no Tom Cruise, churning out blockbuster after blockbuster, River was certainly A-list within his age group (25 and under) although he preferred to make small, artsy films by comparison. Nevertheless, he was often praised by critics, directors, and Hollywood legends (e.g., Sidney Poitier) for his performances and for taking risks. By the time he died in 1993 (aged 23), he had already appeared in a string of critical/financial hits, was an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee, had won the Volpi Cup at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, and after the success of MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO was being touted as a future master thespian. Quite frankly, he had achieved more than most actors do in their twenties or even thirties. And his untimely death received a ton of endless coverage!
Glad they deleted this. Adds nothing to the film. He went supermarket. End of. I mean, it's great we can see it at all but it didn't belong in the film.
Probably could like in the begining when he was hustling solo. Since it was unscripted it didnt have a good sign of a good scene because of people around acting normal unlike movies.
interesting juxtaposition between how he walks and acts here, and in some either scenes, so full of bravado and purpose, and the campfire scene (especially the deleted one) where he's so soft and vulnerable..and just to think that that's mike's true self and this is him putting on a bold front and trying to survive. beautiful river
If you didn't know this was a scene you would thought it was just him and someone filming him. He was so natural when it came to this
It was improv, so it WAS actually just him.
How do you know? Lol and I love his boots!
Watching River walk through a grocery store seems kinda relaxing I don't know why l
I was thinking of the exact same thing how weird is that
+Diddy Dog river is amazingly relaxing to watch...thats why i love him xx

haha same!!! River was amazing!!😂😭
what I thought at first then you realize he's acting. and his character is homeless of course he might not grab a bag, he probably walked to the store too

@ML8593wy movie charcter
The cashier also.
Lol his voice when he says “Very fine, thank you”

I love the way he walks! So confident of himself and tough too.

He wasnt so confident and tough if he took drugs
this looks so recent ):

I thought that too even though they filmed this in 1990, almost 28 years ago 😮
Over 30 years now...crazy
Time flies.

even in character this man refused to take the receipt and a bag

Oh, to shop for groceries without social distancing.
Just shopping without the masks honestly. Its all the same just we cant see all of our entire faces anymore..
I had the same thought…for me its the going to school without wearing a mask that I miss…
apparently these weren’t even extras they jus walked into the store they probably didn’t use the scene cause the clerk looked into the camera
