“If this ends up on You Tube, I will find you!”
I laughed so hard
Another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain as I stand here on stage with another hundred lyrics that I’ll never recall and on every damn page is another hundred lyrics that will drive me insane right in front of you ‘cause the words are a pain not to mention the sprawl of the melody.
But we’re all singing Sondheim, some songs are weird, some are quick.
We’re all singing Songeim and when the rhymes get this thick it isn’t fair, I need more air.
But I’ll try to follow the internal rhymes and infernal counts,
With the tricky metre and the picky words in absurd amounts,
And we lose our places where the phrases change with the rhythmic flow.
Now I think I’ve got it ‘cause this parts a breeze but you never know,
Will the tempo switch or will he change the key ‘cause something has to go.
Did you find my measure ‘cause I looked in vain and another modulation to increase the pain, so I’ll learn it by tomorrow if I don’t go insane.
And another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain
But we’re all singing Sondheim, some songs are sweet, some are strange.
We’re all singing Sondheim- there’s not one tune in my range, and every song is too damn long!!
Well there are worse things than staring at the water in a Sunday.
There are worse things than staring at the water and still posing for a picture after sleeping on the ferry after getting up at sever to come over to an island in the middle of a river half an hour from the city on a Sunday.
But I’ll try to follow the internal rhymes and infernal counts,
With the tricky metre and the picky words in absurd amounts,
At a speed like this you miss the syllables that I can’t pronounce
Pardon me, is everybody here? Because if everybody's here, I
Want to thank you all for coming to the wedding, I'd appreciate
Your going even more, I mean you must have lots of better things
To do, and not a word of this to Paul, remember Paul, you know,
The man I'm gonna marry, but I'm not, because I wouldn't ruin
Anyone as wonderful as he is--
Thank you all
For the gifts and the flowers,
Thank you all,
Now it's back to the showers,
Don’t tell Steve but I think I’ve got it ‘cause this parts a breeze but you never know,
‘Cause he switched the tempo and he changed the key, well something had to go
Did you find my measure ‘cause I looked in vain and another modulation to increase the pain and I’ll learn it by tomorrow but I’ll probably be insane.
And another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain
And another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain
And another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain
And twenty seven dinner plates
And thirty seven butter knives
And forty seven paper weights
And fifty seven candles
And another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain!!!
Sorry if some of it is wrong, I tried my best.
Hope it was useful to someone.
Laura Surride love this hahah
Thanks a lot for uploading the lyrics 🙏🙏🙏 I really do appreciate 😍
Otherwise most of the text would have slipped to me. What an incredible singer and song - admirable
So brilliant Liz. I’ve always been such a fan. Masterful.
Thank You
👏💞👍
The skill Liz demonstrates in this performance is remarkable. Can you imagine the work it took to but this together?
genius. wonder how many people stopped the video before realizing forgetting the words was intentional.
I hope not too many!!!
@@LizCallaway really? I thought it was an accident..why was this done I'm curious??
@@leif1075 Because Sondheim is notoriously difficult to sing, so Liz did a super creative thing here and swapped out the original lyrics of this song for different ones about Sondheim trickiness. :)
I feel this on a deep, spiritual level.
nothing can express how much i adore your voice... you are a huge inspiration to me and your voice and energy is so timeless!!
Thanks!!!
@@LizCallaway thank you so much for the reply!! I just wanted to say I am singing The Story Goes On for a recital at the end of a theatre class I’ve been taking and I am very excited although it is a very challenging song. I really hope I will be able to do it justice and respect your incredible legacy. I’m a huge fan. Thank you!!❤️❤️
How could it have taken You Tube 7 years to recommend this for me???? She is amazing!
I know this is very funny video
But I have to recognise her breath control and singing is effortless
The skills of her is surreal
Thanks Tony. The irony is I actually don't think Sondheim is hard to sing- maybe challenging to learn at first, but he is so brilliant, he makes it easy for the singer.
Liz Callaway true, guess I have to solidify my technique
She knew👿 and SHE will 😈find YOU !!!!!!!!!!!
Loving You Liz
The beginning made me laught for the longest time after i heard ot the first time 😅
It was a set-up. She did NOT really forget the lyrics!
Brava, Liz. Brilliant!
.... Been listening to Liz's performances of these tunes since 1973, -- yes, .... from the days when I could only enjoy " Company " from those ancient 12 " albums.
Thank God I have lived long enough to actually see & hear this wonderful lady on You Tube !!!
( -- an admirer from the sticks / hinterlands -- )
Two thumbs up. Two pointer fingers. Three pinkies.
Thanks!!!
Can't even breathe watching this......beyond brilliant!
You are brilliant Liz Callaway!
Omg this is perfect
3:28 Your breathing support is amazing. Unbelievable ❤
She had me! She is fantastic!
No joke... Something like this just happened to me at an audition.. Was not of course singing this song, but I was performing my 16 bars and half way through I stopped mid phrase and said shit lol
Patrick Carman I think it was all part of the act... Right? hehehe
This is the BEST THING EVER!! I had seen this years ago and posed on FB. Just saw you do it on Seth's live feed the other night and found it again on here. I'm saving it. My goal in life is to learn it!!!!

Am I tickled to find this video!
That was great. What a nice twist on the originals.
I’m currently a junior at manhattan school of music studying w David Loud and Liza Gennaro and I remember they brought you in for a masterclass before Covid, I’m singing this song for our audition techniques class with Matt Scott and the way you perform it is so masterful and pleasing to experience, and I’m honored to not only have met you but to have this clip as well as others of you to watch And learn from💛 thank you
This is just all kinds of fabulous!!
"....'cause something's gotta go!" Great.

Was so glad to have been there for this and that you put it up on RUclips! Brava and Thank You!! Always, Ellen 😘💜💜
This is the Best¡. Thank you, Ms. Liz¡
Thank you!
This was great! And hearing Ann laughing in the background was great too
Good ear!!!
I was born with perfect pitch so I’m lucky that way and I can recognize her laugh from a distance
You are so brave, I admire you
Listening to this live last night in the SF Palace of Fine Arts was a dangerous experience - I was in stitches and hurting...:) Also, appreciated Liz's acknowledgment to the author of the lyrics... she was in the audience and took a bow - Lauren Mayer. Brava! Bravi!!
👍👍👍💖
Have loved Lauren Mayer's brilliant parodies, but didn't know she wrote the parodic lyrics to AHP, which I'd heard sometime previously. So anyone so aware has to be a Steve fan to have incorporated so many nuanced, funny observations in the rewriting. Brava, Lauren, and Liz, for a very 'breathful' performance that left us breathless.🙂

I can relate to this, as someone who did two productions of Into The Woods, I can relate. I actually played Jack in the 2nd production of Into the Woods.
This makes me love Liz even more. Please come back to Melbourne soon!
I saw her do this live and it BLEW MY MIND. I love you Liz! Thanks for all your help at the New Zealand Singing School 2013 :)

Hi! I absolutely love this song and would like to sing it for my Showcase at the Royal Academy of Music (I'm in a Musical Theatre Master's), is there any way I could get the music sheet for this? I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Thank you :)
Hi Talia- I'm sorry, but this is an arrangement that I can't give out. Thanks for understanding. Good luck to you!
Got it
Brilliant!
made my day/week/month !
This was amazing!
amazon alexa brought me here. i fucking love this lol
but who wrote the lyrics on this version.
Lauren Mayer!
how we all feel about Sondheim
Found.
I recommend listening to the parody - "Co-op"
You mean Renee Elise? "And the brown and the beige…"
Is there anyway that I can get the sheet music of this arrangement? 🥺
ANd we lose our places where the phrases change with the what now?
with the rhythmic flow?
Rhythmic flounce.
The same thing happened with Elaine Stritch singing a Sondheim song FOR THE PRESIDENT OBAMA HAHAHAHAHA Surprises me that she is singing in the original key!
Is there sheet music available for this?
I'm afraid not.
@@LizCallaway That's a shame but thanks for answering. I'm a big fan!
I guess she found herself
The lyrics are a bitch for this song. Going through the same thing right now!
