  • My friend bought a jet engine and was told it was one owner, never been in a crash and runs perfectly.
he brought it to me to check it out for him since I work in a lot of jet engines, and I keep things real.
first thing I saw is that it has been in a crash lol, it had a bolt in combustor can that have been sheared off by the bracket, I fixed it all up for him and it actually ran good, he said he doesn't want the 25 hr service hahaha.

The danger zone is abreast the turbine blades. I’m a recently retired MC-130P Flight Engineer and ran 4 gas guzzling Allison T56-A-15 turboprops for the last 13 years of my career.
Rolls Royce owns the line now and I got to go to their maintenance school in Indianapolis back in 2016,,,2 weeks of tearing them down to the individual turbine blade section components and rebuilding them to spec. (Really cool class designed for Engine Maintenance Troops that not many Flight Engineers get a chance to even put in for)
I learned a ton in those 2 weeks about engines I’d used in flught for over 3,000 flying hours to date at that time, but never truly understood the guts and bolts of.
The one bug takeaway I have from that class was the discussion and privileged photo collection of mishaps that is not accessible to the public.
When these turbine engines shell out a turbine and shit the bed, they don’t fuck around as they do so. They are intact, or they are NOT intact, and they slice through metal like a hot knife through butter
I never sit in the plane of rotation of any turbine blade
      Any……
      Ever.
The metal that is moving is moving rotationally and it’s not gonna be a concern what comes out the ass end, as by the time it has slowed enough for debris to come out the butt, you will have ZERO doubt that she has shit the bed.
      Spectacular catastrophic failures

My 12th grade science project was building a gas turbine that charged a bank of 12v AGM batteries. We went to the local junk yard that had a heavy equipment section and we got the biggest turbo we could find off a CAT dozer I think 🤔 it was 24 years ago lol damn I'm old. When we cranked that thing up.... well thank God we were outside because boy howdy was it loud, the look on my teachers face was priceless. We fed it with a fuel cell from my dad's old drag car and a fuel pump from some random car and we had to regulate the pressure down from infinity to something more manageable because otherwise it was like having an afterburner on all the time. Anyway cool video I love jet engines
