Later in the review he says that you "should be able to negatively affect the fireteam in a psychological way." I'm pretty sure those 2 randos shooting at the trees have that ability. Gman got shook.
@tomboy the whole point of the predator is that it can be killed in a few well placed shots what built the tension in the original movie what made it so cool in the first place.
Every Aliens or Predator game will inevitably be measured against AVP GOLD from 1999 and I have YET to see one that measures up...although I enjoyed AvP 2010 on Xbox360. AvP2 was well received but a large number of people never actually played it. It’s astonishing to me that the industry won’t simply remaster the 1999 version and that sequel
Oh gman didn't you watch the extended director's cut of predator? After the movie was over Arnie respawned his team via a reinforcement radio and they lived happily ever after
My first thought too, they lost a lot of the charm by not doing that. Who wants to play as generic modern day soldiers? I want a sleeve-less flak jacket, fingerless gloves and a big cigar.
shiet this game's pace is bonkers. Everyone running around at cod speed. A premise like this I think a slower, more deliberate pace should be better. Like Splinter Cell spies vs mercs.
I was literally thinking of Spes Vs Mercs when thinking about how I would have preferred the game, lol. It should have a weak predator in the health department but has lots of stealthy options and weapons/tools to take down Marines; and for the marines to be slower and tougher players with gadgets to help locate and make it easier to land hits on the Predator.
@@graphite7898 well to be consistent with the movies, a single pred should still be physically tougher than the toughest human, but logically still wouldn't survive a clip of m16s at point blank range. I think that would still work since a squad of humans together will pack enough heat to discourage a pred from charging head first.
You actually start out with two of the best weapons in the game which is caster and slam. Most of the complainers never utilized those tools til they crawled their way to the 40s so they can unlock the stick and Berzerker and bully the FT
@@Aniyah-CHG No, the ranged weapons are perfect. They are designed to poke the enemy to use resources or to finish targets you cant get close to for the kill. If you run around like a good pred, you can very quickly melt their hp and resources with your ranged attacks, dive in for melee and ground slams when they cluster together, then dip to start shooting again. People tend to just run in, its the worst thing to do and obviously wont help, shooting first can help a lot but you have to manage your resources and positioning so you can dash in then out without getting shot up too much. Trees are not cover, don't stay in them 90% of the time like most people.
All I want is a remaster of the original AVP games. Those two games, at a Lan with a full match of players..... oh gawd, some of the best memories I had lanning with mates.
I played that game religiously on release, it was so underrated. Predator Hunt was awesome, mainly because the Predator could kill so easily, but also be killed easily if careful. Didn't take more than half a clip of pulse rifle ammo to bring him down, so he couldn't just tank people. If you didn't use cloak, and pick off people who wandered off, you weren't going to have a good game. But if you played the Predator properly, you should shred a team one by one. Good fun.
@@giorgiolarriva4814 I mean, its a decade old. Even when the game came out on 360 back in the day the servers where only populated with 4-8 people a game, and this was half a year after the games release in early 2010. There was a popular mod for Half Life 2 called The Hidden: Source, released back in 2007. It was an asynchronous multiplayer PvP game before any of these commercial titles ever existed and it's still far better than any of them. The killer was effectively a predator. Invisible, highly mobile, surgically precise and deadly but with the caveat that it wasn't an invincible killing machine. It hunted and stalked using stealth to succeed, not overwhelming force. The killer goes up against heavily armed soldiers and absolutely couldn't win in sustained head-to-head confrontations. This game makes the predator such a bullet sponge while also making him as powerful as tissue paper. I was almost looking forward to this game on the hope of it delivering a similar kind of gameplay as The Hidden all those years ago and/or the power fantasy of being the predator realized. Disappointing.
I like Predators more than Predator 2 If only just because it's a lot less cringey and is clearly made as a huge tribute to the first film I like Predator 2 in a campy so bad it's good kind of way The Predator is abysmal and I never want to own a copy
The Predator was good with poor and hurried 3rd act and joke as main protagonist. Nice lore expansion microcode execution. I wish that this Predator branch will be more explored in books and visual novels.

I was super interested in this game when I first saw it right up until I read the name ilfonic. These guys are 3 for 3 with mediocre games that do not live up to their price tag. Why is it that huge ips keep being given to mediocre studios that can't make a solid game to save their ass?
Friday the 13th and Predator aren't huge IPs, lol. They're well-known but that doesn't mean they're actually big. Also, many IP holders still don't realize the potential of video games, that's why even the biggest movies don't have a lot of good games associated with them. But hey, we lived long enough to see actually good movies based on comic books (which was also unimaginable once), so we may yet see good games based on movies.
To be fair friday the 13th was a crowd funded game and had alot of issues because licensing reasons and lawsuits but i agree these guys suck at making a workable game but they do put alot of heart into the content
Jedi that's your opinion but the numbers don't lie, the game is dead in the water and barely had a chance to get started. It's plagued with issues from graphical bugs to frame rate issues to game breaking bs. You can like it but objectively the game is a failure in many aspects especially player count. Illfonics other game Dead Alliance is a god damn joke, illfonic never finishes a project, they get it somewhat playable and then dump that bitch on the curb and run.
@@flippedoutkyrii Funny thing, playing Hunting Grounds and being able to equip the Elder Blade the first time I thought "Huh, a Predator Machete. @@jpjfrey5673 The game is pretty fun. I just feel that before you judge a game based on what someone tells you, you should try it out yourself and see if you like it. I've tried it so far, and though it's not amazing, it probably will be as it progressess, like adding in singleplayer, new weapons, maps, characters(preferably an 80s one where you can play as a special character, like Arnold) so it looks like a good game. Not the best, but still good. Btw do you have a PS4?
"soldiers can pull out a syringe and heal almost instantly." "Predator can solo fire teams with the Combistick." Almost as if the two have some sort of connection 🤔
He also said that was the one broken factor about the predator. Healing doesn’t matter if you get instantly downed. Having to use a broken weapon to avoid several broken mechanics is not a fix and it ruins gameplay. 🤦♂️
yeah you can combine parry with syringe use and as long as 2-3 other people keep shooting at pred he can pack his bags and go home. Pred can't wipe entire team of people who know what they're doing. Even if he drops you he won't have HP to engage the rest. With very limited healing pred has really one chance to try something like this.
@@Cypeq I find that using positioning can really mess with a good team. Most "good press" i see just hide in trees, they are useless and predictable, barely getting in action at the right times. What they should be doing is trying to distract them so the alarms go off, then poke them from a distance until someone splits, leap in and slam before running. If you keep the fights going you win. When it comes to fire team, just stick together but not tight, treat it like artillery fire. If you have 1 guy on a rock, 1 on a roof and the other 2 running the objective, the pred really can't do much because the other 2 are costly to get to and can easily spot him. Even if 1 guy goes down, he cant stand there and finish him or charge you because he needs to move around a lot more. There are plenty of crouch jump and parkour places for fire team, no one uses them yet because the game is so new.
Hey Gman! I've noticed something... You've never played Hunt: Showdown. I would legitimately love to hear your opinion on that amazingly underrated, under advertised shooter. Love you man! Watch all your vids.
hell yeah, I love that game, shame for some parts of the community constantly bashing crytek for every change, but damn the game is fun and exploding with atmosphere.
I'd love to see that review too! Though honestly they really gotta give us more environmental effects in the game. We need massive downpours of rain like in that l4d2 map. Imagine playing Hunt, avoiding and killing every other hunter, avoiding and killing mobs, finding the target, killing it and extracting WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, outrunning the rising flood waters. That would be hard as hell and so much fun.
@@darkranger116 While cool I think performance would be an issue, especially for rain, that could absolute tank for certain people + I don't know how it would work with sound, Hunt has one of the best sound designs I heard in a video game and if I was on a map where everything is covered in water while it's raining I think all I would hear is heavy rain and my splashing in the water. I would love to see crytek's take on it, but I don't think they want to put resources into it.

Maybe there should have been more thought in the 'setup; phase. Basically like the initial compound attack in Predator, but the human team would need to use actual surprise, tactics, and superior arms to attack a large group of NPCs (with actually solid AI), and how much damage they take/how many people they kill/what supplies they secure helps dictate how well prepared they are for the coming attack by the Predator. Meanwhile, the Predator would _not_ be attacking them yet, or even all that far away. Instead, the Predator would be watching them during this attack, invisible among the trees. During this time, the Predator has permanent cloaking, but the humans gain 'points' if they spot him (presumably by seeing him, zooming in, and 'scouting' him like they might one of the NPCs). It would bring to mind Dutch's team being that much less caught off guard by the cursory sightings of the Predator before properly meeting him in combat. Meanwhile, the Predator has an equipment/skill loadout that is at least partially judged by how much they can 'scout' the human team while also remaining unnoticed. Hell, maybe the Predator has a chance to pick off NPCs that flee the combat area before the human team can kill them to net himself a bonus of some sort. Or the Predator can also lay 'traps' in the form of mutilated corpses that impose debuffs to accuracy, put false positives on the minimap, etc, to reflect how he's rattling these otherwise veteran soldiers. Point is, this is a hard game to get right, even by the standards of video game adaptations. Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight had the advantages of making the humans basically helpless by design. They didn't have controls that would let a veteran Dark Souls player thrash Jason/one of the killers right out of the starting gate.
Great video. I don't understand this trend of online only games, if we could have a proper Predator game with great AI, I bet it would be pretty cool. The AVP game that came out last generation had decent single player content, that could have been worked into a sequel if they polished all the gameplay elements. This feels like it should have been the MP for a single player game, like Doom's battemode which I'm also not a fan of
@@DeadManSinging1 as someone who still enjoys NES MegaMan, that's the biggest downfall of online only. Once it's shutdown it's gone forever. Big investments tend to bring big profits. FFVII, RE4, GTA, to name a few.
I played this and it made me remember Evolve, which seemed to have a lot more depth. I think that came out in 2015. Different monsters, ambient wildlife, characters with different classes and abilities. Better gunplay and strategy.
We still havent had a good predator game since AvP 2, with concrete jungle being a fun but trial and error based game. AvP 2010 doesnt even have a fucking crouch button let alone good gunplay/ good alien play, with only the predator campaign being half way decent. Knew the moment I saw the trailer for this it would be bad, as though the 2010 visuals werent already an indicator
@@jackcutter2 Oh yeah clearly, the bb gun pulse rifle that takes 20+ shots to a xenos frontal lobe or the grenade launcher that only does damage on direct hit. The reliance on blocking and meleeing a 7ft xeno as a human, the fact you cant crouch against the android enemies which melt your health on the higher difficulties, the copy and paste levels for all 3 campaigns, the game losing its terror when you step outside in the daylight, the fucking acid spitting enemies in every other fps game. The game had two things going for it, the graphics which are incredible even today, and the multiplayer which was so fun but the community is practically dead. The games single player was bad, the only reason it got any acclaim was because of the universe it was set it, the predator campaign was alot of fun, and that was it.
A few updates and I think the game will be fine because I think it's a lot of fun. Just a rocky launch with a fairly new development team. Illfonic plans on supporting it for a long time and they are already releasing patches to fix balancing and bugs. Also the game is $40 and $60 for the deluxe edition.
Personally I love the game as it started, everyone on the fireteam actually doing the objectives and being actually somewhat concerned about the Predator. Recently as I've come back to the game, the fireteam always seem to completely ignore objectives and solely focus on the Predator and hunting it down with no fear and as someone who prefers trying a more stealthy playstyle instead of the "Berserker no thoughts head empty" charge and swing wildly playstyle it just... You can't really do much against it. Meanwhile playing with my friends, we can hunt down the Predator consistently and one of my friends is so good at the gauntlet shutdown minigame he can complete it within seconds every time.
@@mostlyjovial6177 Honestly, I don't even see it as a "so bad its good" movie, it stands perfectly in its own and delivers some great scenes. Dialogue is over the top sometimes, but that is to be expected.
"The first 2 films." I love Predator 1 and 2, and I haven't seen the others, so thanks for the heads up. But could you tell me what your opinion is on AVP?
Predators isn’t bad. It has some nice call backs to the first film and sone nice action set pieces here and there. “The Predator” should be avoided at all costs, however.
First AVP is also pretty worthwhile your time. Gets the job done with the whole premise of "Aliens and Preds duking it out". Also, I concurr with ScareVixen, Predators was pretty good. Nothing revolutionary, but still entertaining to watch.
Predators was ok, probably worth checking out. The AvP films are more mixed. I actually really like some aspects of Requiem but it's way too dark all the time for no reason. Like sure it's a blackout but the writers could have easily given the humans some flares or something so we can actually see what's going on.
I just want a good single player Predator game where I'm surviving in the jungle as a human or I'm a Predator hunting down stolen technology and/or skilled warriors like Dutch. Why does it always have to be some usually crappy multiplayer thing? Can you imagine Alien: Isolation but Predator with a tiny bit more combat? Like say you can set up traps or injure a Predator enough they have to flee the area. You've got to escape with some shit you found that they want back, all your friends are killed after your truck gets blasted but you land in some wet mud, quickly realizing they can't see you. Add in some survival mechanics so you've got to risk breaking stealth to catch some food, purify water or treat wounds. These games where one guy gets to play the cool monster while others have to be survivors always die pretty quickly, as such I never have any interest in playing them because what am I meant to do when nobody else does because another similar but more trendy game came out?
There's a streamer I watch who absolutely loves the game, and played it the day of and day after release pretty much all day. He exclusively played the Predator and WON 95% of his matches with a squad wipe. The issue right now isnt exactly that the Predator is underpowered, but that people are playing him like a fighter instead of a hunter. He's not there to walk up and brawl with you in the open, he's supposed to patiently wait and exploit mistakes of the squad (like being separated from the group).

I’ve been kicking ass as the predator so I don’t know what all this “Predator NEEDS a buff” noise is. Play smarter and more carefully and you’ll be fine. Same with the soldiers. I think the only gripe this game deserves is that it doesn’t have much content and it’s got bugs. At least its a lot better than that shit show Dead By Daylight. It just seems like people never wanted this game to have a chance. It’s definitely an improvement from Friday the 13th. I’ve playing this game a lot and honestly it feels like most of the criticism isn’t deserved. It’s like people want the game to just die rather than improve, and that’s shitty. Edit: Also I disagree with the whole “Help Predator find the soldiers faster” thing. You’re hunting them. The point is that its a hunt... You have all you need to find them fast. Best thing to use is the sound pulse while in thermal vision. Straight up basically tells you where they are for a certain amount of time. Again. The game isn’t great but it’s not as bad as people think. Just actually take time to learn and get good at the game and you’ll be fine. Stop expecting it to hold your hand.
Honestly? You're being honestly honest? I can honestly say that you honestly need a thesaurus because you honestly say honestly way to much. Speaking honestly.
And I bet all or the majority of those kills are with Combistick and SHoulder CAnnon. I have yet to see any person consistently get kills with other gear and weapons. Cause it doesnt happen. Don't lie.. you know the other weapons are so bad.
AcidGlow I haven’t unlocked the stick yet, and I only peck at them with the Plasma Caster from the trees every now and then. Mainly comes from the net, claw blade and the noise lure at the moment. Ya know. Because using all of the tools at your disposal is what you’re meant to do.
*Shouldn't the title be "Too many pencils pushed" ?* I really couldn't disagree with this more. Maybe that's because I only started playing in late Aug but some issues raised in this review don't appear to be issues now. Matchmaking times aren't that long, there are plenty of different missions now, enemy AI isn't as dense, there is a perk that lets your track footprints of muddied players, the combi stick has been nerfed, and there are now lots of different Predators albeit as paid DLC. I'll pay that the predator is hard to get gud with but in the right hands, it's downright terrifying. For the small price of entry, I think this is worth a look-in for fans of the films and asymmetric multiplayers.
Right, I bought this game on launch and quickly learned how easy it is to make the predator my bitch. I had a game where my team ran off, didn't use mud or ping or play the objectives at all and got killed. Then the predator came after me. Fyi, I was playing scout, which has the lowest health pool out of the four classes. I just equipped my knife and proceeded to parry and stab the predator to death whenever it rushed me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this game, but that shouldn't be possible. Especially seeing as I had the double time perk on, with knife equipped you run fast. Fast enough to easily catch up to the predator and stab the shit out of it while it's healing. Again, what the fuck? Knife is the strongest weapon in the game, if you have it equipped itself much easier to parry as you don't have to wait till your gun switches back before you can try again. They defo need to make the predator stronger or this game is going to be evolve 2.0.
Honestly, it does seem like the 2010 release did a hell of a lot better job when balancing the 3 options for PVP, it all felt like a rock paper scissors game where each piece had the tools to beat up the other piece.
_Predator, Predator 2_ = acceptable, _Predators_ = hate crime? _THE Predator,_ likely Shane Black's last big-budget movie = HATE CRIME. but _Predators?_ please. that was just fine.
While I love the Friday the 13th game... it always had its issues and honestly I don't think these developer's have the skills to fix bugs. If the framerate in this game drops to 20 FPS, I wouldn't play it for that alone. Also I hate hitmarkers and XP popups in shooters as it just takes me out of the immersion of the game.
While "immersion breaking", I'd rather have hitmarkers than to wonder if I hit something. I also find it hard to be immersed in a game where I'm being hunted by a violent alien heat shimmer, but to each their own.
@@Seoul_Soldier I don't have a problem wondering if I hit something in a shooter without hitmarkers. Nothing will change either way other than having more crap on the screen you don't need.

Yea the Predator ranged weapons need a bit of a buff.

Good fun.

It was a good mod tho I learnt of it through seananners and the crew those days were amazing loved that mod

I was super interested in this game when I first saw it right up until I read the name ilfonic. These guys are 3 for 3 with mediocre games that do not live up to their price tag. Why is it that huge ips keep being given to mediocre studios that can't make a solid game to save their ass?
Illfonic botched Friday the 13th and then blamed the lawsuit so they could dump the game. Lazy, incompetent developers.
Friday is actually pretty damn good. Ilfonic as done well with that game.
Jedi that's your opinion but the numbers don't lie, the game is dead in the water and barely had a chance to get started. It's plagued with issues from graphical bugs to frame rate issues to game breaking bs. You can like it but objectively the game is a failure in many aspects especially player count.
"soldiers can pull out a syringe and heal almost instantly."
"Predator can solo fire teams with the Combistick."
Almost as if the two have some sort of connection 🤔
Mykeh had a match where 2 of the FT knew how to get on the roofs so I had to stay one step ahead of them. One tried real hard to snipe off my mask

Im still praying for a game that was like Predator: Concrete Jungle on PS2.
But noooooo, lets make multiplayer only garbage all the time.
This feels like it should have been the MP for a single player game, like Doom's battemode which I'm also not a fan of
Its cheaper to make an online only game. I never get em either, online only games are always going to reach a state where they're no longer playble
@@DeadManSinging1 as someone who still enjoys NES MegaMan, that's the biggest downfall of online only. Once it's shutdown it's gone forever.

@@tatocancelled7186 yeah, game that traded away most of its unique mechanics and setting fro pretty average open world mechanics and like 3.5 "big" location
Youre just a butthurt fanboy lookin' at hot garbage through rose tinted glasses.
@@AcidGlow Eh the Bow is decent
AcidGlow
I haven’t unlocked the stick yet, and I only peck at them with the Plasma Caster from the trees every now and then. Mainly comes from the net, claw blade and the noise lure at the moment. Ya know. Because using all of the tools at your disposal is what you’re meant to do.
*Shouldn't the title be "Too many pencils pushed" ?*
I really couldn't disagree with this more.
To make the game feel less unfair for the predator; a mechanic that they could have implemented is the jamming of weapons when coated with mud.
Feel like making this an exclusive for the Ps4 and the shit Epic Games Store is a poor move if you’re trying to grow a player base for Avp.
This is such a missed opportunity for a triple "A" game. Shame, looks so cool
When i saw the trailers for this game I thought it was for the playstation 2
PS2
@@bardaaa1483 Yes he said that, nice reading.
What fuckin Playstation 2 game are you talking about lol?
@@tatocancelled7186 i just wanted to sound cool, im a 33 man who wants to be cool...
@@bardaaa1483 oh.
Don't say that sir...
You are cool my friend...
All I know it have redhead thicc female predator.
Desire to know more intensifies...
Also - putting MP title in Epic Store (other than Fortnite) is asking for quick death.
Imagine a predator Game like Alien: Isolation. First Person, a well crafted jungle setting with some variety in it (bushes, trees, uneven Terrain, rivers, lakes, caves, etc.) you can craft stuff like in Alien, but here you only have nature to provides for you. Like arnie in the movies you could build traps, bows, spears etc. Or use mud to hide etc.
And if the AI and the whole ambience is so on point like Isolation was for Alien..
Holy shit....
Feel like developers should get you to help play test games like these.
This looks like one of those games that you’ll only get when it’s free on the store for like month 2 years after it’s release
Hey, looks co-
*Epic Games Store*
No. Not even a little bit.
This game would appeal to me a lot more if it were set in the 80s or in the future.
I just find the modern aesthetic such a drag.
Gmanlives
Will you be covering predator: concrete jungle in the future? Was just curious, no response required
It’s my fav. Predator game cause it explored and expanded the lore
AVP 2 still has the better multiplayer.
I'm going to say something controversial:
Illfonic makes terrible, half assed games, and depend on fandoms to blindly support there shit to make any money.
It's sad but true
I'm not buying this one until it is released on Steam.
....for free :)
Finally someone who agrees that Predator 2 isn't actually that bad.
0:23 that explain it . tbh this style (friday the 13th) is like the best for Predator game . maybe until we get horror action but you still not powerful in it single player . that will be epic Predator game .
"PUBG inspired compass" soo... a compass?
Reminds me of Evolve... And that game flopped hard.
people that could make or break a game were more concerned with shitting on Evolve then recommending it. I personally think it is good, same with Lawbreakers, Battleborn, Paragon, Gigantic, Wildstar and more underrated good stuff.
While it is a shame that EGS claimed exclusivity, if it is timed I treat it as a Console exclusive.
@@drivanradosivic1357 other than wildstar all of those games were shit. Wildstar was incredibly underrated though.
@@Quole1234 Incorrect at first response, correct at second responce.
So in a nutshell: play AvP 2010 instead :)
Marshmallowmonster 77 yep
You hit the nail on the head with this review. Not a bad game (with lots of love and attention to predator lore), but definitely could be a lot better
Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction please do this game!!!
Wait the standard is 40 and the deluxe edition is 60?!?
Name Lastname ya talk about getting the info so wrong.
Shocknfunk honestly I don’t mind some of the points he made I kinda agree but the whole price thing was just completely wrong
@@namelastname4261 I mean if you don't know the price of the game you are reviewing you are doing something wrong.
Name Lastname he probably gave the prices in Australian dollars instead of American. He probably should have specified what currency he used to avoid the confusion, but I guess it’s easy to forget games cost different prices in different places.
A yikes just checked in Australia the price is almost 60 that’s fucked
