- I interview Steve, an expat living on the beautiful Thai island of Koh Phangan. Steve opens up about his challenging early life, growing up with a father who was a strict policeman and a heavy drinker. He shares how these experiences led to his diagnosis of PTSD and the impact it has had on his life.
Steve takes us through his journey of moving to Thailand, where he sought a fresh start on Koh Phangan. He talks about the trials and triumphs of running a business on the island, offering a candid look at the realities of being an expat in paradise. From navigating local customs to understanding the dos and don'ts of island life, Steve provides valuable advice for anyone considering a similar path.
Steve also discusses the abrupt end of his relationship with a Thai woman, shedding light on the personal challenges expats can face. #thairishtimes #thailand #movingtothailand

What did you think of Steve's story? comment below
Enjoy the relaxed style of interviewing, but yes, you are right..."What's the schtory" doesn't help the actual story 😂
@@pithius2191 still sticking with it!!

Been loving the summer so far!
That's What it's all about Steve. Telling people's stories.
Keep mentioning" What's The Story?? "
Make a good T-shirt 😉
Nice interview mate. I would love to move to Thailand one day. I’ve been to a few places over the 6+ times I’ve visited. I went to one of the half moon party’s in the jungle in Koh Phangang 2009. That was crazy but fun. I hope to retire in Thailand before I’m 55. I’m from Dalkeith Midlothian btw but live in Wellington NZ. My dad was brought up in Craigmiller/Niddrie back in the 60/70s
@@craigwilliams6337 ahh, Craig, thanks for the comment pal. Go for it, get all your ducks in a row and make the move. Wellington is lovely (as are Craigmillar and Niddrie) btw thats where my dad used to police 👍 im from just down the road in Musselburgh. Flying the flag for us Scots here in KPG 👍🙏👌👊
@@stephencomerford5783 Aye a seen that on one of the previous comments mate. I used to go to Musselburgh as a kid and jump in off the harbour. Lovely wee place. I’m a long way off retiring in Thailand but it is a dream of mine. I’m 38 so still a long way to go but know it will probably fly in. Stay safe mate and I wish you all the best!
Very clued in on Thailand's success at staying Thai despite temptation to sell out for foreign $€£¥₩ long may they preserve their beautiful countryside and people.
Great Story and top Lad !
@@shane0traveller451 cheers pal 🙏
If you don't offer them a monthly salary, they will walk away. Stay away from Massage girls and Bar girls!
Steve was the victim of a father who could not live a double life. A police officer must be a dictator at work and then suddenly be a diplomat with the family. Very few officers can be two different personalities at once. My neighbors never new where I worked and my wife never new what happened at work. Steve's father should have never revealed to his children about his line of work. I was trained to make something up and stick to it.
You certainly weren't trained in spelling.
*knew*
@@Thai.Farang Thank you Mr. Perfect. You corrected me. You got me. You are above me.
more shtories
Shout out Rob Gritton
@@Milo-UK yaas bro 👊👌
Met his 'massage artist' girlfriend, she'd only been doing it for two weeks!😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Dmanz67 you need to listen more pal. She'd only been in "Samui" doing it for 2 weeks, was actualy very qualified from her local temple in Kaon Kaen... but yeah, glad you found the story funny mate 👌👍👍🤣
"What's the shtory" is your shtick. Stick with it!
Will do buddy!!
I work primarily with Brits, mostly Scots and it's not uncommon for them not to understand each other well.
@8:14 You can't imagine spanking your child's buttocks with an open hand leaving no marks within a certain age range for doing something they knew was wrong? Weird.
PTSD.....what a crock.
Do you mean you work primarily with UK people? Scots are not Brits...
Not talking about a slap on the legs mate, im talking about getting beaten with a thick leather belt as a 6 year old. Trust me the mental scars are real.
These “20 year” ago stories I wonder if he was even there. Koh Phagnan was never 100% backpackers. Also encouraging the 50k baht living like a king lifestyle 😂
Trust me pal, i was there. Koh Phangan in 2002 was backpackers heaven, as i said very few oap's and honeymooners like it is now and completely different to 20 years ago. Maybe you've never been to KPG 🤔🤔

You make no sense.
yeah what are you talking about? Who?
Scottish my arse , where do you get these characters from Pete , ? Walter Mitty Are Us ? Bonkers mate
He moved down south as a kid and lost the accent, what are you on about?
I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and obviously had a strong American accent but at age 7 my dad and mum who were from Paisley moved back to Glasgow. I don't remember it but within 6 months I sounded totally Glaswegian and still do obviously. Your accent is pretty malleable when you're young
Just because i dinnae talk like I've just come down from the highlands doesn't make me English pal. Born and bred Musselburgh and proud 🙏👌👊
