I 100% agree with everything you guys said. Andrew Garfield also said in the actors on actor’s interview that he didn’t want his Peter Parker portrayed to that way. He said that he wanted His Spider-Man/Peter Parker to be exactly like the comics but Sony told him to shut up and that he didn’t know how to direct so he never showed up for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. He could’ve had the 3rd film but he didn’t want Sony to continue to tarnish the character that we love and also who he loves.

For me it's by far Andrew Garfield. As someone who grew up with Spider-Man comics and the animated show Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends from the 80's (even though I was born in 2004), the Raimi films were never my first introduction to the character unlike some people and so I was never as emotionally attached to that version and I can't say I particularly cared for Tobey Maguire in the role or Kirsten Dunst as MJ. I much more preferred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. To this day there has not been a live action Spider-Man who's voice actually makes me think of the character's speech bubbles in the comics like he did.

Spider-Man 2 got every aspect of Peter Parker life going downhill as Spider-Man git more popular. Then when he decides to be Spider-Man no more the way the city is starting to fall a part without their hero just did it for me. And the chemistry between Peter and his villians just were so fitting. I think Sandman should've been the main villian in 3 but all 3 together tells an very compelling story. Only thing in this video I disagree with, respectfully, is the Gwen argument in TASM2. I actually really love how much Spider-Man can't make up his mind, it hurts so much because I can really understand that. Caught between responsibility and love, and he kept teetering on that the whole movie, and it cost him. It's both endearing and heartbreaking to see Peter struggle to stay away from Gwen like that in the movie.

I think it would have helped if they made that the 3rd film and gave us one in between them that showed him actually trying to stay away from her a bit longer. Like, they play the “will they, won’t they” game in the second movie and get back together by the end, then do the death in the 3rd.

With a character so widely popular as Spider-Man, it was inevitable to see the webslinger go through multiple iterations, each tailored to the needs and wants of the production team behind them. Here's my personal in-depth review:
Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man has become a legendary staple in the Spider-Man culture. His suit is very iconic and the Spider-Man aspect is a widely regarded fan favorite. The organic webs were the largest deviation from the main-steam comics, but other than that, I'd agree that Sam Raimi nailed the superhero. Peter Parker, however, was a bit different for me. They stayed truthful to Peter's wit and his Aunt May is the best on-screen adaptation full stop. It was, however, a bit jarring to see these 30-something year old actors portray high school/college age characters. Spidey's quips were... I'm sorry to say, but not as quick-witted and funny as I'd like, and the campiness of the trilogy is a hit-or-miss, depending on the person, but to me, this is purely a nostalgic set of movies. They were enjoyable, Spider-Man 2 was indeed phenomenal and what this trilogy did best was display Peter Parker's qualities and his interpersonal relationships with other characters and the villains, but other than that, there wasn't anything that truly pushed Tobey Maguire's portrayal to an S-tier for me. I'd rank his portrayal as A-tier, huge respect to my first introduction to what would instantly become my favorite fictional character of all time.
Andrew Garfield. The man, the myth, the legend. I'll say it right here, this is my favorite Spider-Man to see on the big screen. The quips - legendary. The body language in the suit - phenomenal. The fighting style - art. I must admit that the Peter Parker was an entirely different person compared to all other iterations, including his height and beauty, but I wouldn't say it was bad - seeing a cocky and sometimes even douchey Peter isn't what most are used to, and I can understand that. Garfield was also doomed by the massive expectations Sony had put forth and then backed out of, but, other than that, these are certainly my favorite movies. Plus, I was a huge fan of what Marc Webb achieved with these movies, as he had experience with romantic movies, and the ace in the sleeve of The Amazing Spider-Man duology was Peter's relationship with Gwen - their chemistry is literally unmatched amongst all superhero movies to this date and I'd say the internal struggle between so helplessly loving Gwen and his promise to Captain Stacy actually more-or-less justifies his behavior in TASM2, and seeing the Goblin fight in TASM 2 tears me up. Every. Single. Time. To witness something like that on screen and make you feel something so gut-wrenching is a miracle of art, honestly. Many people also dislike Andrew's suit in the first movie, and there is the argument that in the first movie he was just a vigilante with a vendetta that only realized his true purpose in the bridge scene. And, of course, it's impossible to talk about the TASM duology without mentioning the breath-taking swinging scenes and how gorgeous the TASM2 suit is.
And then we have Iron Man Jr. Yeah, I completely agree that the MCU did a number on Spidey that doesn't fare well with a lot of fans. From the moment Civil War ended until the moment Peter fixes Otto's chip, Tom's Spider-Man wasn't truly Spider-Man. In the words of Peter himself in Infinity War: "It's hard being a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man when there's no neighborhood". The MCU hasn't really given Spidey a neighborhood, he keeps getting thrust into these country-to-universe scale battles, constantly living in Tony's shadow, and that's where it all goes wrong. The setup after NWH is a great starting point for a better Peter, I'll agree, and I sure have high hopes for it. Tom Holland is a great actor, and he captures Spider-Man's youthfullness and optimism perfectly, but Peter needs more personal struggles that don't involve city-level threats. He needs to scratch for rent, he needs to struggle with his school/Spidey schedule and he needs to be untethered from Iron Man, and NWH puts him exactly there.
Also, I can't mention on-screen Spider-Men without gushing over The Spectacular Spider-Man. He is the literal textbook definition of a perfect, comic-accurate, modern and relatable Spider-Man. Peter is perfect, from his personality to his relationships. Spidey is perfect from his action to his quips. An obvious genius, a perceived geek, an annoyance to every villain, and omg the villains. Seriously - if you haven't already, watch The Spectacular Spider-Man. It's an absolute treat and the biggest tragedy is it's cancellation after the Disney/Sony deal.

I’m confused why you talk about selfishness when it comes to Tom? This is a guy who left his own homecoming dance without hesitation (putting his relationship in jeopardy) to go do what he thought was right. This is a guy who tried to rewrite the universe so that his friends wouldn’t be banned from college because of him. Selfishness? Where? And I just don’t see what people issue is with him getting help from others. Were crossovers with him not ALWAYS common in the comics? Sure he wasn’t an Avenger in the comics for a while. But is that really a big deal? This is MCU Spider-Man, does it really matter that they adjusted him slightly to make him fit better? I can see how his arcs are not the most through-lined. But he definitely has different arcs through each film. I think he does a great job of portraying young Spider-Man. Yknow, Spider-MAN was in highschool for a long time in the comics. That’s a large part of his golden age. And now in the future, he will be a solo Spider-Man. I’m excited to see where they go with that.

i grew up with tobey, and i always saw him as the best spider man because how he was as Peter Parker, balancing his life and being spider man and I got more of a connection with him because of the character development. But if we’re talking about THE BEST SPIDERMAN it has to be Andrew Garfield. I used to play Ultimate Spiderman daily, and that to me was how Spiderman portrayed. (Quick Quips, Always talking, Having Fun as Spider Man, Showing Emotion with a mask).
To me Tobey and Tom never really convinced me of emotion unless their mask was ripped off or their mask is off. But Andrew Garfield embodied everything Spider-man was and is. You can’t sit and tell me that Tom did that. He was constantly being awkward, he portrayed his spider-man as a kid, not an alter ego extrovert that inspires and gives hope to others.
I love Spider-man, and I’m glad Garfield got to play him, and I’m glad Tobey was able to show the struggles of a double life. And I just wish Tom the best and hope the writers can do it just like that, I feel like that’s what’s holding him back because of the Kids of today watching. Love this video! Certainly earned a sub from me!

Garfield truly solidified himself in my mind as the definitive Spider-Man after several scenes. In TASM 1, it was the bridge scene, and in TASM 2, it was his interaction with the kid being bullied for his science project. You could argue it was only because Garfield was by generational timing “MY spider-man” nd so by nature I can relate more, nd mayb ur right, all ik is that out of the three, I can identify with Garfield’s depiction more, and to me, the essence of Spider-Man is relatability. That’s what’s so beautiful about his character, we can all have our own one true Spider-Man. js so happens to be Garfield is mine.

I grew up watching Raimi Spiderman and I loved him. I used to know every dialogue in Spiderman 2... but as I grew up and grew up with the Spiderman comics I found in TASM my definitive life action Spidey. He just is the perfect Romita era. People seem to forget that the nerdy, introverted Peter just lasted about 50 issues. Since the spider bite he builds courage, charisma and self confidence, and that makes him a lady's man. Tobey's Spiderman its just too boring, too passive and sometimes plain stupid. The problem I have with Spiderman 2 is that he's so fucking passive and let everyone to step on him all the time. And that's just frustrating bcs comic's Peter would never behave like that.

For someone who wants to stay in the neighborhood he has to fight planet level threats and he gets frustrated. It's good to see the teenaged character act like that. Especially in 3 when he tries to kill G.G. before saving him makes him almost the most human and relatable of all the spider men. But I also respect your reasoning.

I'm going to have to disagree on Tom Holland. I like Tom Holland as Spider-Man. He's fun and energetic, and his movies are the most fun for me to watch.
He does bring a certain youthful energy to the character I don't think we've seen a lot of in the past, and I like it.
I heard that his comic accuracy varies. I don't read comics, unfortunately, so I'll say this: he fits into some part of comic Spider-Man, although I don't know which one.
As for him, not doing things by himself, I hope that the new trilogy will lean more into that.
I love all 3 Spider-Mans, but Tom Holland is my favorite one.

i like andrews peter more than the 3 live action. people don’t like the fact that he’s handsome for some weird reason i guess being handsome just automatically makes you confident when in the movie he isn’t really confident until gwen’s shows interest then he begins to feel more comfortable around her and we get to see our hero be less shy around people and girls like in the first scenes of TASM. andrew has the sarcasm, the subtle charisma peter has in the comics, the quick witted humor 😂, the selfish moments..etc which make him feel human. where as tobeys spider-man feels kinda like he’s perfect like he has no flaws as a person. but yea to sum it up i relate to andrews peter more than tobeys or toms. he has flaws, he can be very awkward, hard headed..etc. andrew had more of the ultimate spider-man personality from the comics which is in my opinion better than the original. people usually forget originality doesn’t equal great. i mean look “the boys” comics

Peter had Jessica Jones, Betty Brant, Gwen Stacy, Black Cat, MJ, and a bunch of other women interested in him. And like the first few are from his highschool years. So in that aspect, Peter has never really been relatable. I do think keeping Andrew in the glasses and having him dress a little nerdier might have been better but they definitely wanted to differentiate from Tobey's trilogy and making him a fringe skaterboy thats kind of on the outside of the rest of his peers still definitely works for Peter. Although, thats more accurate to the "A-hole Era" of Peter where he's constantly bummed out about everyone and everything. Its definitely the worst era of Peter but i think the movies use it and change it to make Andrew's Peter very endearing. Like they show him still sticking up for the little guy in his scenes where he confronts Flash. But he's still definitely an outcast.
It's probably clear that Andrew is my favorite Spider-Man and i seriously love his portrayal of the character. And if anyone deserves another movie, its definitely him (although the plans for TASM 3 were absolute crap & if they went back to make the movie, the entire thing needs a plot change)

For me it has to be Andrew Garfield he is my favorite Spiderman. I love that Peter doesn't feel as perfect as Tobey's but he puts his all in his perfomance as Spidey you can see his theater background come out. The combat is absolutely amazing and it is the best web swinging we have ever seen in Tasm 2. Followed by Tobey he obviously has the best written spidey story out the three and the combat and webswinging was dope for the time. Finally Tom I'm not a big fan of the Avengers stuff but over time his spidey has grown on me and unfortunately Im still not a fan of the lack of consequences in tom's spidey.

I would say Andrew is my favorite because I just felt like his hero story was the most realistic….the first couple of years as an adult I was very touched by spider man 2 with Tobey and it might be the best at depicting who spider man is supposed to be but I just never really I guess agreed with the speech aunt may gave and just felt like the way amazing spider man 2 ended was more realistic to becoming a hero. But spider man is without a doubt the best hero America ever created for me.

Andrew. Cuz he's fun. The music is awesome. The swinging is awesome. The quips are awesome. The villains have their quirks, but I get where they were going with them, so I like em as well, even Goblin (kinda. nasty unhinged guy, his fight went hard).
Also, I like that in the first movie his Peter has come to the "great responsibility" thing mostly by himself, just like in the original comic, which isn't a big deal, but it does bother me once in a while.
UPD: Uhm, too tall? Isn't Andrew pretty much the same height as the comic Peter? Only 1 cm difference.
The flip-flop with Gwen critique is understandable. Altho, the creeping is in line with TASM1, with him being a lonely weirdo.
Yeah, just the sheer "OG" status and memes make Toby peak, even if I don't like his Peter or the movies themselves.

Toby is the best overall for sure, he’s not an outgoing pretty boy, he’s buff enough to be actual spider-man, he has all of the hard life and emotional struggles, he’s the best Peter in personality (he just sadly misses the intelligence part).
Andrew is a great spider-man in behavior and feel, but he’s awful as Peter, and not because of his acting it’s him being a good looking guy but also the scripting and whatnot. There is also the fact that electro was awful and should have been more true to the comics. The second movie was too not serious as well so it invalidated a lot of the emotional things that make Spider-Man a good character.

I really don't get the "he's always getting help" criticism for Holland, the first movie is all about him learning to rely on himself and he does, the second movie his "teamup" is the villian lying to him and an incompetent nick fury that makes the situation worse and in the third movie he activly has to fight Dr. Strange before he gets to do spiderman stuff and only gets help from the other 2 spidermen which is something that happens literally all the time since spiderverse became a thing (and before that to).
I'm sorry but this criticism is just plain wrong, Holland's spiderman objectively doesn't have this issue and I think people are just to used to online discourse about this characther being incredibly bad faith for no reason (also because of the nature of the MCU, more characthers show up all the time even if they don't necessarily help, a lot of people might have the lingering thought that they do i guess).

Tobey: Best Peter in both performance and writing.
Andrew: Best Spidey in both performance and writing. Much of the rest of the writing was crap.
Tom: Tragically clearly has what it takes to be a better Spidey and a better Peter than both of his predecessors, but keeps getting ruined by horrendous writing.
4:45 Those lines weren't even subtext but subsubtext at best, tiny oases open to interpretation in a vast desert of nothing. The cut (and thus not canon) scene showing Ben's initials on Peter's suitcase in FFH would've been a proper subtle confirmation. Instead, they erased Ben in NWH. Maybe not his having existed, although even that is debatable now, but most definitely his importance to Peter - not just by giving "With Great Responsibility (...)" to May, which this Peter explicitly hadn't heard before, which in turn utterly infuriates me, but also by MCU's Peter failing to react to the other two talking about their Bens.

Grew up with Toby, so there’s nostalgia there. He gets sh*t on and can’t balance Spider-Man and Peter Parker which is relatable for any young adult (minus the superhero part lol). Only thing about Toby is he looks a tad like a dad lolll…Tom I really enjoy as well, he’s youthful and it’s fun seeing him with iron man and their bond. He’s goofy, clumbsy yet still agile and smart, plus who are we to argue with Stan Lee who has said personality/ looks wise Tom is who he envisioned as Spider-Man. Andrew for me is a big ol, 0. I don’t like anything about his movies, I don’t like the casting, I don’t like the story, I don’t like the weird cool- guy take Andrew has on Spider-Man. I simply don’t see him AS Spider-Man it’s not believable to me. He’s too handsome he’s ugly. The only part I like is the more science take Andrew has, but again I DON’T SEE HIM AS BEING SMART.
