It’s Honestly weird how Disney didn’t make an animated movie about their mascot Mickey Mouse in 2023 since it was the company’s 100th anniversary at the time.
I think 2028 might be the more appropriate opportunity since that year is mickeys 100th birthday. They chose “wishes coming true” as the theme for the company’s feature length 100th anniversary movie was because its the company’s main theme. Why not go revive “the search for Mickey Mouse” for 2028 if they want to do something for Mickey’s big year
And yet, now that Mickey Mouse is in the public domain, indie filmmakers are making Mickey Mouse films that are horror films. It's a funny old word, isn't it?
DisneyToon may get a lot of flack for all those sequels, but they did have some rare gems and this is one of them. Loved this as a kid and still do today.
I remember that there are also some pretty good sequels like The Lion King 2 and Bambi 2. Not many people realize that not all of them are bad. I am not saying that you didn't know, I just wanted to point that out.
This movie was part of my childhood. I would constantly put it on and never get tired of it. I actually rewatched it recently, and I still enjoyed it as much as I did in the past.
The fact that this movie wasn't theatrical is disappointing, because it had so much potential. For Mickey Mouse's first movie that wasn't a segment in another movie or even an anthology movie, this was literally Mickey and the gang at their absolute best!
I can see why it wasn't a theatrical release it aimed at very young children I love it out of nostalgia but I can see adults or even older kids not getting into it
You're absolutely right about how Mickey Mouse should be given more representation as a character rather than just keeping him as a corporate mascot. I can see a lot of potential with how he can be shown as a character. Granted, I already love Mickey as one of my favorite characters and biggest heroes, but it's always nice to see him be given something new to try, much like how Walt made Mickey the "sorcerer's apprentice" in the Fantasia segment. Moments like that can really help make Mickey's impact on society all the more memorable and iconic. Also, it looks like we're going from one story about a mouse to another, because The Secret of NIMH is next. I was hoping for The Little Mermaid after you said you reviewed the "bad sequel", but The Secret of NIMH shall work too. Good luck!
CAPTAIN PETE: You guys are hopeless! I leave for five minutes, and I’ve come back to *HAAA!!!! HAAA!!!! HAAA!!!!* MICKEY: We were practicing our *HAAAA!!!!*

16:11-16:37 Mat’s got a point there. In fact, if you’re a fan of _Animaniacs,_ you may recall the song _Wakko’s America._ In which Wakko Warner sings the names and capitals of all 50 states to the tune of _Turkey in the Straw_
People can say what they will about this movie, But I personally enjoy it! It's one of my favorites in terms of Mickey, Donald and Goofy interacting with each other. In fact my two favorite parts of this movie are when Goofy comes up with a plan to get rid of the Beagle boys and it works. Because that part always make me think that Goofy's plan may have been a little hairbrained but it was still a pretty clever idea for someone of Goofy's intelligence level. And my 2nd favorite part is when Mickey says that they aren't even real musketeers and Goofy ask's "Who says so?" That scene always makes me want to point out that Mickey was kinda right, They technically weren't musketeers under royal law I mean Captain Pete may have made them musketeers but that was only for his evil plans. Mickey, Donald and Goofy weren't given official Musketeer titles until the end of the film. Although, another thing I theorize when Mickey says that they aren't real musketeers. Is that the look on his face when he says that makes me believe that deep down Mickey was probably thinking but didn't say out loud that for all those years they've been kidding themselves to even think that they were ever musketeer material. At least to me that's what it looked like Mickey was probably thinking.
Captain Pete: You guys are hopeless. I leave you for five minutes and I come back to AHHHHH! AHHHHH! AHHHHH! Mickey: Well, we were practicing our AHHHHH!
From all the DTV films from Disneytoon, it's finally nice to put them in place for one of their greater films in their library! Not a fantastic one, but still I'm happy that Disneytoon didn't screw up the characters in this one. Plus, I never really looked at Mickey being "Just the Mascot" I always did look at him as an Iconic character as much as others like SpongeBob and Bugs Bunny. It's more that whoever is in charge of the character may depend on how they would interpret them.
You are right about one thing. Mickey Mouse should have been treated as a character and not a corporate mascot. But Disney itself didn't give him a chance because it's so overprotective of him after that scummy Charles Mintz legally kidnapped and murdered Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Which is why he still represents a dimensional character unlike Bugs Bunny and Mario. And he wasn't allowed to be used in other projects, mainly DuckTales (2017).
This movie was a huge part of my childhood. I would constantly watch it when I was little, in Spanish, and I never got bored of it. Recently I watched it again and man did I love it now as a 21 year old as much as I loved it as a 4 year old
Ah, the 2nd best version of The Three Musketeers Disney has ever made, the best stars Keifer Sutherland, Chris O'Donnell, and Tim Curry, but as for next time, let's switch mouse protagonists from Mickey to Brisby, as we try and discover The Secret of NIMH
Yep and this time it will get the animat seal of approval The Story 10/10 The Animation 9/10 if not then 10/10 The Characters 10/10 Overall 10/10 for animat classic review the secret of NIMH (1982)
Now that I think about it, yeah why not go treat Mickey like how The Jim Henson Company treated Kermit in The Muppet Movie if they want to make a straightforward story starring Mickey
I'd watch that type of movie, seeing Mickey go on an adventure and meeting his friends. Although now I wonder who he would meet first either Donald like how Donald was created after Mickey or Goofy just to see Mickey experience Goofy's antics first hand then have him try to warn Donald about how clumsy Goofy can be.
One thing I’m surprised you didn’t mention is how memeable the characters expressions can be. Seriously, the memeworthiness of the characters expressions could give “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie“ a run for its money.
I remember when I got my DVD of this movie. I was a kid in a Disney store in a city near my hometown. I was searching all over the place for a DVD and I found one. But I accidentally went behind the checkout counter. We got the DVD and I had plenty of good times watching the movie and checking through the sneak peeks and bonus features of the DVD. You know what could really help make Mickey a big star again? A film adaptation of Epic Mickey. I feel like not only would it make the public see Mickey as more than just a corporate mascot, but it could also shed light on scrapped Dsiney content and characters and could even ultimately make Oswald the Lucky Rabbit a big star again. Plus I hear copies of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed are selling out quick (well the collectors' edition at least), so I think an Epic Mickey movie would do well at the box office. Anyway, I thought that at the very least the next Classic Review would be better than Kronk's New Groove, and I think I'm right. After going through the film's sequel once for an Animat Watches, probably again for a Top 10 list and probably yet AGAIN for the review last year, he finally gets to review the amazing original. And I'm happy for him and I am anticipating that review.
I love this movie as a child and I love how the musical number twisted up with the classical music into the mix and I’m very glad you’re going to review the secret of nimh
12:34 - 12:52 Chameleon: "I was turned away from every training hall I went to. They would say I was too small, too lowly, and that kung fu was not my destiny." 🦎 😠😡🤬👿 Mickey Mouse: "Am I a joke to you?" 🐭🐁 🤨 Mantis: "Am I a joke to you too?" 🦗 🤨 What about Mantis, Viper, Shifu and even Master Mouse and Master Chipmunk 🐿 and they managed to learn Kung Fu and became Masters despite their small sizes?!
Honestly, I can see another attempt at making another feature film starring Mickey and his friends. Considering 2028 will be Mickey Mouse 100th birthday, it would be a missed opportunity for Disney animation to make a movie. There’s also some good ideas for a plot like a film adaptation of Epic Mickey or a live action/animated film going through Mickeys history throughout the years.
I am very pleased that you get to review Mickey, Donald and Goofy in The Three Musketeers because it was released the same year when I was born so I have personal attachment to it as I have watched it on ocassion, even recently from a couple of months. That said, I consider this as Mickey's finest outing right next to Epic Mickey and even his graphic novel story, The World to Come, which I HIGHLY recommend. It is really THAT good. Also, what I LOVED about the film is its feeling of a Mickey graphic novel. If you have noticed at the beginning, there is a graphic novel that the Troubadour, our humble narrator, is holding so it is very subtle. Although, some deleted scenes of the film have surfaced online as it plays more of the aspects of the graphic novel though if I can find a reason of why some of them were cut was becaused it felt very distracting.
I absolutely LOVE this film as a kid, I watched it so many times and still got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Sure it’s not the best movie among one of their classics, but it’s still a lot of fun and very engaging! And I will agree that Disney should use Mickey and his friends as characters more often because they can show a lot of personality. Here’s to 20 years of the iconic trio being musketeers, and it’s all for one and one for all!
I kind of like how this movie revealed itself as an in-universe play in the beginning. It felt like a neat addition to its self-aware nature for being a light-hearted adaptation of the story. Plus, it's an all around cute film starring the Disney trio, so I'd say it's worth at least one watch. Speaking of animated mice, I can't wait to see Mrs. Brisby next time.
Awesome job making this review AniMat, I can't even thank you enough along with everyone else for giving "Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers" a "7/10"! Also while being off to the races, I can't wait to see your next "*Classic* Review(s)" on "The Secret of NIMH"! YEE-HAW!🤠🥳👏👍👍💯
I totally agree on what you said about Jim Cummings' performance on Captain Pete. But I think my favorite performance in this goes to Jeff Bennett who did one of the beagle boys. (U know because He sounds very similar to Petrie from The LBT sequels)
This film is very fun imo! Among the other classic Disney character focused films like the Goofy Movies, the Ducktales movie, and the Once Upon a Christmas films, The Three Musketeers had me engaged, laughing, and vibing with the music throughout the film. It’s always a pleasure to watch from time to time. 👍🏽👍🏽✨
Only seen it once and it's still a good movie when seeing these three in a movie. It does take me back to see these three in shorts, Jack and the Beanstalk and a couple of others with the three of them combined as a kid.
I kinda wish Disney would toy with this idea more; putting mickey and his friends in classic literature. I would like to see them take on stories like the great gatsby, or the invisible man!
I have never seen it, but I can understand it’s cult following. I also find it wasted potential that Disney didn’t make a Mickey Mouse movie to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Even if I find Wish ok, I think a Mickey Mouse movie would’ve fit much better for the event. Now we go to a appropriate transition from Disney’s talking rodent to Don Bluth’s talking rodent with Secret of NIMH
I always thought it was the fourth wheel in a old trilogy that have "Fun and Fansy free", "Mickeys Christmas Carol" and "The Prince and the Pauper". Also some of these also have one song or two with classical touch.
No mention of Mickey And The Beanstalk from Fun And Fancy Free as another attempt to bring Mickey back in a big way. That's yet another Disney film that seems to be forgotten often.
Sure but they were only in that segment but not the rest of the film. Donald was close with The Three Caballeros and Goofy with The Goofy Movie for example but Mickey never had a dedicated film to him for the entire run. Fantasia was the closest for him or Fun and Fancy Free for all 3 together.
Happy 20th anniversary to this awesome movie, it's better than it has any right to be by direct to video standards and is the best Musketeer movie ever made!
Loved this movie, and the review. I noticed an updated thumbnail. The DVD this came on introduced Disney’s FastPlay, and a few copycats, some of whose existence I can say may be real, like HiT Entertainment’s. The rest appear to be joke versions made for RUclips videos.
The next review is going to be “The Secret of NIHM”, the best film made by my former animation teacher, Don Bluth. Fun fact: his brother Toby was an art director on this film and “The Tigger Movie“
I obviously loved this movie as a kid, and I'd say it's still a decent kids movie. I would definitely love to see the trio in their own theatrical animated film.
I remembet this movie when it came out. I liked it, but it clearly didn't stay on my mind as the theatrical movies. Still, it was my introduction to Musketeers and got me into better adaptations like Man in the Iron Mask and the BBC series.
Apparently this movie was the replacement for another movie that was supposedly in the works, "In Search of Mickey Mouse" in which Minnie Mouse would have recruited Basil of Baker Street (from The Great Mouse Detective) to find Mickey and would have also encountered various Disney characters. No other production notes or concept art seem to exist of that project other than the plot synopsis and the fact it was cancelled...twice (it was brought back into production around 2005 or so, only to be replaced by "Tangled").
This movie is definitely what i would call underrated. It's better than the majority of the Disney sequels that the studio made. It's more of an 8/10 for me but that's just me.
I hated what this movie did to Donald. Punches a shark in the classic shorts, literally turns chicken when Pete points at him. Makes me appreciate the Ducktales reboot so much more.
0:15 - 2:15 Interesting fact - In 2011, Disney story veteran Burny Mattinson revealed in one interview that he was developing a "Mickey, Donald, Goofy feature film idea", but he had not pitched the idea. I still wished we could've gotten that Mickey Mouse 🐭 movie 🎬 to honor both Disney's and Mickey Mouse's 100th Anniversary. This was a missed opportunity. Mickey Mouse 🐭 deserves some respect 🙏🏻 🫡.
This is a great movie I remember watching it all the time as a kid and actually I was planning to do it again tomorrow to see if it still holds up after 20 years
Awww I adorable and enjoy this movie! Its my fave Mickey Mouse movie! Its got a fun charm and super funny! I enjoy the animation! I never get tired of this film, its such a great watch every time! The funniest quote I find to be my fave is when they say "Will save the princess or die trying!" "Die?"..."Die?" That quote gets me a chuckle, every time XD
Kid Danger: *wearing his mighty pup movie outfit* i freakin love this movie! *fans himself with his wing and gets surprised* what the hell do you mean, "pointless bit grabs"?! I love the sequel the "Loin King 2: Simba’s Pride"! You think that is a "pointless bit grab"? Hell no!

I just hope that for Mickey’s 100th anniversary, Disney produces a new Mickey Mouse movie that would pay homage to Mickey’s entire history.
Doubt that
They really should put "The Search For Mickey Mouse" back in production. That would be perfect for Mickey's 100th birthday.
This aged like an open bottle of milk I’m afraid :(
Unless this version of Mickey is in danger of falling into public domain, Disney doesn't give a sh*t.

Among the other classic Disney character focused films like the Goofy Movies, the Ducktales movie, and the Once Upon a Christmas films, The Three Musketeers had me engaged, laughing, and vibing with the music throughout the film. It’s always a pleasure to watch from time to time. 👍🏽👍🏽✨
If it’s not obvious to anyone: His next Review is The Secret of NIMH!
"If there were five Musketeers two could have died and there would still be three left!" - Gary King from The Worlds End.
Watch the full Cornetto trilogy many times and I love them all. The World’s End, while the weakest of the trilogy, gets better with every viewing.
@@davidzea-smith1417 You can't go wrong with Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg.
Only seen it once and it's still a good movie when seeing these three in a movie.
It does take me back to see these three in shorts, Jack and the Beanstalk and a couple of others with the three of them combined as a kid.
Ah, yes. The first Disney DVD to be enhanced with Disney’s FastPlay.
I remember seeing this as a kid. Loved it and still do. I even still own the DVD. Haven't seen it in a while, though.
I kinda wish Disney would toy with this idea more; putting mickey and his friends in classic literature. I would like to see them take on stories like the great gatsby, or the invisible man!
Happy 20th Anniversary to the Release of the One of the BEST Mickey Mouse Feature Films (Aug. 17th, 2004-2024)
This movie definitely has the look the classic theatrical Disney shots of the 1940s and 1950s I think that’s what they were trying to do
That was actually perfect timing releasing this review,
Because this film turns 20yrs old tomorrow as im typing this comment!!
"Ahyuck, Vive La Revolution, Mickey"
14:57 - 15:06 Lion 🦁 King reference.
28:20 Is it The Secret of NIMH?
Baby Lamb Creations, you need to see this!
My mom watched this movie as a kid, and I watched this when I was younger.
im so glad you covered this movie! Its my all time childhood favorite❤❤❤ much love! -A loyal subscriber ❤🎉
The next review is going to be “The Secret of NIHM”, the best film made by my former animation teacher, Don Bluth. Fun fact: his brother Toby was an art director on this film and “The Tigger Movie“
1:05 - So have you completely forgotten about The Three Caballeros, a feature film starring Donald?
Kinda the same thing with what he said, its more like 3 different shorts stich to a film
One of my favorite childhood movies.
Great review Animat and take care and stay safe 👍.
I remember seeing this years ago and I enjoyed it for what it was. Anyways, next up is Don Bluth’s first animated feature and one of his best films.
Next AniMat's Classic Reviews is: The Secret of NIMH
I love the fact that you call “This is the End” the “Gaslighting Donald song”
I obviously loved this movie as a kid, and I'd say it's still a decent kids movie. I would definitely love to see the trio in their own theatrical animated film.
I remembet this movie when it came out. I liked it, but it clearly didn't stay on my mind as the theatrical movies. Still, it was my introduction to Musketeers and got me into better adaptations like Man in the Iron Mask and the BBC series.
Finally, The Secret of NIMH is next. The kind that’ll truly make u just say “YESS” for real. Eat your heart out sequel version of Timmy!
I watched this movie at LEAST a thousand times as a kid. Legitimately. I LOVE it.
Such a great movie. Top tier animation, the VAs on point, and a surprisingly solid story. It's a super fun film I'd pop in from time to time.
Well, here it is!
Disney's Mickey, Donald and Goofy in the three musketeers (2004) released in 2004.
Can't wait for the next classic review, the rats are coming in hard!!!
Three is indeed a magic number
0:15 - 2:15 Interesting fact - In 2011, Disney story veteran Burny Mattinson revealed in one interview that he was developing a "Mickey, Donald, Goofy feature film idea", but he had not pitched the idea.
I still wished we could've gotten that Mickey Mouse 🐭 movie 🎬 to honor both Disney's and Mickey Mouse's 100th Anniversary. This was a missed opportunity. Mickey Mouse 🐭 deserves some respect 🙏🏻 🫡.
This is a great movie I remember watching it all the time as a kid and actually I was planning to do it again tomorrow to see if it still holds up after 20 years
TSON better get the animat seal of approval
At long freaking last, After a couple of years Mat's next Classic Review is The Secret of NIMH.
Tomorrow is the film's 20th anniversary, and I will be watching it again for the occasion, all for one, and one for all!
No one should ever respect your opinion on animation after what you said about Genndy
@@VictoryReviews That was eight years ago dawg
Awww I adorable and enjoy this movie! Its my fave Mickey Mouse movie! Its got a fun charm and super funny! I enjoy the animation! I never get tired of this film, its such a great watch every time! The funniest quote I find to be my fave is when they say "Will save the princess or die trying!"
"Die?"..."Die?"
That quote gets me a chuckle, every time XD
Fun Fact: This DVD of this movie is the first Disney DVD to have Disney's Fast Play then a few years later it became a common thing for Disney DVDs
Hell no!
I actually grew up with this movie, so it has a special place in my heart. ❤
All for one and One for all!
