My only issue with the show is how often it reused jokes from The Emperor's New Groove. I remember one time that a friend and I sat down to watch New Groove, and he didn't find a majority of the jokes funny because he had seen The Emperor's New School, which is infamous for running gags from the original film into the ground.
Also another fun fact about the Emoji Movie, one of the that film’s writer was actually the writer and co-star of School of Rock, and also wrote Nacho Libre, Despicable Me 4, and Migration
While this movie isn't as good as the original film and it is predictable and formulaic, not to mention how some of the humor doesn't work, I will admit that I still have a soft spot for this film, mostly because I love Kronk and it's great to see him presented as a beloved member of the community, even being friends with Pacha and his family. After seeing him go through the first film as Yzma's henchman, it's great to see the big guy coming into his own, showing off his selflessness, and finding true love with Ms. Birdwell. I also love how they got many of the original cast back for their respective characters, like Patrick Warburton, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, David Spade, Wendie Malick (hi, Eda), and John Fiedler (may he rest in peace, by the way). I also like the talent that the new voice actors bring in, like Tracey Ullman as Mrs. Birdwell and John Mahoney as Kronk's father, Papi. Also, while the humor's not as good as the original film, there are still some scenes that I thought were quite funny, like the scene where it looks like Papi is finally giving Kronk the thumbs up he craves, all while we hear a remix of "King of Pride Rock" from "The Lion King". That, along with Kronk's growing smile of glee make that scene quite funny. It also has a fun opening musical number that's quite catchy to listen to. So yeah, while this movie may not be for everyone, I'm still willing to give Kronk a thumbs up for how far he's come, especially with his kindness and selflessness. "Kronk's New Groove" may not have been the best groove I've seen, but it was still a good attempt regardless. Ok, so for the next review, you said that it's time to see "Mickey Mouse show us how its done", so does that mean "Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers" is next? Maybe I'm incorrect and its "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas", but if I'm not, then I'm looking forward to that review. I actually watched the film not too long ago with some friends on Discord, and I had a fun time with the film. If it's "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas", then that'd be great as well, since that film is also a lot of fun.
I kinda agree. The humor was a miss. If the movie had a better focus on the story, like Kronks selfness and learning to get better with himself to the point that, he tried his best to archive his dad's approval, and less on being try-hard with being a first movie copycat, this could have been amazing!
I have watched The Emperor’s New Groove several times, and it is one of my favorite Disney movies. I didn’t know a sequel existed before this video. That truly says something about it.

@@Dinobolt1 This is Disney we are talking about, 60 percent of their direct-to-dvd sequels from late 90s to mid 2000s, are just quick cash grabs, ranging from plain average to downright mediocre at best. It’s nice to see that Mickey, Donald, and Goofy: The Three Musketeers is next. I personally really enjoyed the movie, and I feel like that movie has possibly my favorite iteration of Minnie Mouse. While she can be perceived as a stereotypical princess, it’s Russi Taylor’s performance that truly elevates her. Taylor brought this “too pure for this world” kind of sincerity to the performance that paints Minnie as a lovely royal who wishes the best to those around her, and makes us fear for her safety whenever Captain Pete or The Beagle Boys are around her. I seriously challenge somebody to watch this movie and not come out of it thinking that Princess Minnie is not the sweetest character they have ever seen.

Funny that if you own the dvd of Kronk’s New Groove, it features a promo promoting The Emperor’s New School. At the very beginning of that Kuzco said, “A whole dvd starring Kronk? How about a tv show starring me, Kuzco, your favorite emperor!” Which pretty much sums it up on what you should watch instead. And oh boy, I’m so hyped for the next review now!! Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers!! Perfect timing for the film’s 20th anniversary let’s gooo!!! All for one and one for all!!
It’s really sad that Emperor’s New Groove pretty much got the Doom Syndicate treatment when it got a sequel. A spin off starring Kronk had a lot of potential, but it immediately fails to, by playing it safe as an Emperor’s New Groove sequel. Even if Disney Toon studios isn’t the best at sequels, let’s how they can do it best with the Three Musketeers
I think u mean Sandy Cheeks movie treatment. I know it’s not out until Aug 2nd but i think that’ll be a better comparison since people weren’t happy with what they saw when it was leaked
4:43 This doesn't even make any sense. There were no "bugs" with the levers in the original movie. Kronk incorrectly chose the wrong lever, which activated a trapdoor.

Considering Disney Toon studios was at their tale end of making these sequels, this one is just harmless but nothing worthwhile either. Then again, the emperor's new school did pick up the slack that this feature went missing from a story perspective. Still waiting for New Groove to be in the next Kingdom Hearts game though
Personally humble oppinion that Mark Dindal should seriously consider collaborating with Weird all Yankowich and Mel Brooks, they'd make the funniest stuff ever. Anybody else here agree?
I’ll confess I do have a soft spot for this one and do get some enjoyability from it, despite its writing being cliched and the jokes not being as hilarious as the original. I think the heart of Kronk showing his selflessness towards everyone in his community and the people trying to help him in getting his father’s, or Papi’s approval as well as his and Miss Birdwell’s growing romance and ending up with her makes it somewhat a harmless watch for me. Not great, but I can think of worser sequels. Sure, pull the wrong lever on me until I drop through a trap door or anything painful or humiliating happens as demonstrated what could also happen in the spin-off Emperor’s New School, but I’m not afraid to confess a controversial opinion.
I was expecting Animat to use the signs of disappointment from Kronk thing at the beginning, but the way he puts it in at the end was pretty good too. I was also expecting him to use the earlier that same day title card as the intro here too. Yeah, I agree this ain't as enjoyable as the first, but I find it harmless and a bit heartfelt. Anyway, next up is another animated film I saw as a kid, Mickey Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers!!! I'm not too thrilled about his Patrons requesting him a film that has a huge fanbase, but I'm okay with it as long as it doesn't get the Seal of Approval. And it probably won't since I think the writing is rather simplistic to the point where it doesn't bring out much of a wow factor.
The fact that the animation of this film has the same score as the animation of Belles Magical World 💀 At best, that film deserves a 3/10 for its animation, though I’d personally lean closer to a 2/10
4:16 - 4:52 Cough cough Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget for bringing back the same villain and same jokes as the first movie. Also Kung Fu Panda 4 and Despicable Me 4 did the same thing by bringing back the villains for nostalgic fan service.
At least despicable me 4 made an effort of being the final installment of that series. Kung fu panda 4 doesn’t deserve to exist. That franchise personally ended at 3.
@Gorilla-r4g I see. Despicable Me 4 should definitely be a series finale and I cannot believed that Universal recently announced a Minions 3. If Toy Sotry 5 and Shrek 5 succeed, worse case scenario Universal might announced a Despicable Me 5 in the near future.
I could imagine he would use the infamous image of Shang angrily yelling at Mulan “AND NEXT TIME DON’T LEAVE YOUR POST!” as the thumbnail for the review
How funny how in his review of Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, he mentioned 3 other films that did the whole "father and son relationship" story better, like Elf, How to train your Dragon and Kronk's New Groove. And now he says it isnt that great.
My Mom is a MEGA fan of Emperor's New Groove (we must have watched the VHS tape at least once a month in our movie nights). I therefore thought getting her Kronk's New Groove for a Christmas gift would be perfect.... eeeeeh, not really.
When I first saw the movie as a kid, and realized it was an anthology film like Cinderella 2 or Beauty and the Beast 3, I knew it wasn't going to be good. I'd rather watch the first movie anytime.
I remember in your Cloudy 1 review, you showed posters of this movie and two other films, Elf and How to Train Your Dragon, as examples of movies that you thought did the father son relationship better. After hearing that you appreciated the message Kronk’s New Groove, now I get why u said that u felt that movies like this did it better in your opinion, even though it wasn’t saying much for u
My older brother and I saw the movie in theaters with my Grandma. I was 9 and he was 10. He was laughing a sh*t-ton lol. Also, I always thought it was weird for "Emperor's New Groove" to have a series 6 YEARS AFTER the first movie. I was already in high school. Clearly I lost interest in the franchise by then. (And yet, i probably watched a little more than i should because of how bored i was).
I tried rewatching Kronk’s New Groove and after about 20 minutes, I do agree that it’s not as great as the first and doesn’t hold me up as it did when I was younger. I’ve also been binge watching the Emperor’s new school, and I enjoy that so far. That and watching this review is 10 times more enjoyable than watching the film itself.
5:50 And those Michael Jackson references, tho… 🤦🏻♂️ Don’t get me wrong, I love Michael Jackson’s dance moves and some music are catchy as hell. But in this movie, it’s feels (again) out of place. I agree of what you just said.
I remember when he said that he originally found “Kronk’s New Groove” to be just okay on his commentary on the original WDAS Animation Lookback, which definitely is not the case now.
I think we can all agree that we love Kronk. But I also think we can all agree that giving the “dumb side character” their own movie/TV show NEVER works.
I think it just depends on how they're written. If they have something else to them besides just being an idiot, then yeah, it could work. Which basically says more about how these characters are treated, honestly.
I kind of find it a shame that, possibly due to RUclips's bullshit algorithm, he has to kind of make these sort of spoiler-ific thumbnails to a lot of his reviews now.
Here's a funny thing. I thought Animat was going to be a bit nicer to Kronk's New Groove because I remember in his Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs review, he said Kronk's New Groove did a better father and son story than Cloudy. Turns out I was wrong.
19:21-19:44 that ending was funny Also Mickey,Donald and goofy the three musketeers is the next classic review You know I thought for a minute there it was teacher’s pet
The only reason people even liked Kronk was because of how short and fast his comedy was, having a movie dedicated to him is not only a bad idea, but ruins the comedy of said character. Remember when Jared Leto got in on the “It’s Morbin’ time” joke? Guess what happened afterwards, it killed the meme, and made everyone hate it.
Hm, I see, personally I didn’t really have much problem with this Movie, But I can understand where you’re coming from, it’s a shame. I wonder what you think of New School?
I remember seeing the film many times before, and unlike Mat, I actually enjoyed it, mostly on Kronk's story wanting the approval of his father and the amount of comedy, characters and stories the movie had, for me, it didn't felt like a compilation of episodes from a canceled series, is more like a movie that shows some events that Kronk tried to do what his father asked for, but he gave them away because he had compassion and selflessness, plus, unlike the others, it still had the theme of the main story of the film instead of just throwing random stories that have no connection at all, also, while the animation is certainly cheap, is at least good looking and nice then other movies, so yeah, I actually like this film Also, I swear this recent streak of films that he has reviewed that I personally have been very coincidential to say he either finds them ok, or hates them like the FNAF Movie, and this film
@@AndrewBournias No. Not for a while. But I did send him an Animation Hat request for it. The next review is one of the DisneyToon Mickey Mouse movies.
Seeing as Kronk (and Yzma ) is one, if not the most, funniest “villain” that Disney has ever made you would think that a sequel focusing on him would be good. However, he was a bit of the comic relief so giving him a movie kind of robs him of that. its not as bad as other examples because “The Emperor's New Groove” was primarily a comedy so the impact is lesser seen that it is in most cases. I think that if the movie had tried to tell ONE story it would have been betters, yes there an overarching narrative to the thing but it does seem to wander a bit as there the Yzma story and the scout story, along with the story set at the dinner. If they had removed the first two and focused on that last one, maybe by have Kronk pretending to be some important figures within the empire it would have been better. Apparently this might have been a backdoor pilot to a unproduced tv series which is ironic condering what happened not too long after this was made. Anway while this isn’t a terrible movie) it isn’t that good. I think it’s your standard Disney sequel bad.If you want to watch “The Emperor's New Groove” just watch that or “The Emperor's New School” neither are perfect by any means, but both are better then this.
Such a shame, I did like this movie. Sure admittingly it's not as Fantastic as the original that's for sure, But I say it's a half-good/half-bad movie at least for me. What I personally enjoy is the Involvement with Yzma. She was always my most favorite and the funniest Disney villain, especially with Eartha Kitt's performance In this and the TV show. I always come back to see it just for that, for my enjoyment. For the Bad, that would be with Miss Birdwell. I like romance films as much as the next guy, but this is the kind of romance that makes it feel like cringe, even when the climax comes in just makes it hard to watch. Also, I get the selfless act and Tipo did own up to the sabotage, but I still wished he hadn't done it in the first place which just makes it frustrating, and obvious the outcome will turn out to be. So yeah understandably not a great movie, but not a terrible one either.
I remember watching Kronk's New Groove when it aired on TV. I thought it was okay, though it definitely suffered from Mater syndrome where a side character that was supposed to just be comic relief got an unnecessary, inferior spinoff.
Emperors New Groove Was an Underrated Classic of the Millennium! The Sequel on the Other Hand Was a Soulless Mess, I Love Kronk But Not Here in this Sequel, He sadly Worked Better in Small Doses in the Original! But He Doesn’t Work In the Sequel!
Your reviews of the cloudy with a chance of meatballs duology foreshadowed this
That last bit with you talking to kronk was phenomenal comedy
“I’ll just wait here…like a sane person.” That’s an Eda line if ever there was one.
Somehow this isn't the worst thing Patrick Warburton has starred in.
Yeah, that honor goes to Hoodwinked Too for sure,
@@davidanthonymercado7064 Or Mr. Birchum.
For me, it's easily Space Chimps
Nah, that goes to Baby Sharks's Big Show.
Yeah so do I. I don’t think it’s bad either. Definitely far from one of the worst out there
You forgot to mention that J.P. manoux Voicing Kuzco in the dvd games
One thing you can give this movie credit is that Kuzco has still learned his lesson unlike in New School
It’s a Disney Toon studios sequel, what do you expect? But I still grew up enjoying them.
I’m guessing the next review is Mickey, Donald & Goofy: The Three Musketeers.
What about Winnie the Pooh
Well, here it is, Animat's classic review of Disney's Kronk's new groove
Released in 2005!
Ohhhh electric dragon 505 are meaning Mickey Donald and Goofy the three Musketeers
Honestly I take Kronk's New Groove over Belle's Magical World, Fox and the Hound 2, Mulan 2 and Pocahontas 2 any day of the week!
I’ve never seen this movie, but I really love the first. One of the funniest animated films of all time.
For a direct to dvd sequel, it was okay. I still have the DVD of it. The special features are the best part.
(4/10) the Story
(5/10) The Animation
(4/10) the Characters
I Give Kronk's New Groove (4/10) Thumb Down kronk failed Me
The fact that the animation of this film has the same score as the animation of Belles Magical World 💀
At best, that film deserves a 3/10 for its animation, though I’d personally lean closer to a 2/10
Five Closest.
Mickey Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers is coming up next.
That's right.
MY CHILDHOOD MOVIE!!!!!!
@@DamnZtar Despicable Me 4 wasn’t the last one in the series.
@@Cornhollo26 wait, there’s gonna be more?
@@DamnZtar Yep.
Zero on Rotten Tomatoes, Mat. That's all that needs to be said. Now you gotta review Mulan 2, and watch it and record your reaction.
Oh, boy howdy, that one I gotta see. 😅
That's worse than the director's other movie.
Hell no!!! Don't give any ideas
I could imagine he would use the infamous image of Shang angrily yelling at Mulan “AND NEXT TIME DON’T LEAVE YOUR POST!” as the thumbnail for the review
I'll be honest: I think it's one of the better Disney sequels
I agree
Yep.
A movie so bad, even the thumbnail wanted no part of it
The Thumbnail: Ok fine, I’ll just do it.
More like the sequel is a 80 minute middle finger
As Kronk said, there's a me in mediocre. Best description of the film.
How funny how in his review of Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, he mentioned 3 other films that did the whole "father and son relationship" story better, like Elf, How to train your Dragon and Kronk's New Groove. And now he says it isnt that great.
This and Lion King 1 and a half were the Disney Sequels I had on dvd. I enjoyed Kronk's New Groove back then.
The thumbs up or down thing Kronk’s dad has might as well be something that makes him a person Siskel and Ebert could relate to
2:36 Kroonk?😳
My Mom is a MEGA fan of Emperor's New Groove (we must have watched the VHS tape at least once a month in our movie nights). I therefore thought getting her Kronk's New Groove for a Christmas gift would be perfect.... eeeeeh, not really.
When I first saw the movie as a kid, and realized it was an anthology film like Cinderella 2 or Beauty and the Beast 3, I knew it wasn't going to be good.
I'd rather watch the first movie anytime.
He should review Brother Bear 2
19:27-19:43,
Error: He forgot to mention...
"THE NOSTRIL FLARE OF TOTAL REJECTION"
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Wait? There’s a sequel to Emperor’s new groove?
Kind of odd this film got a VHS release considering nobody was buying VHS back in 2005.
They been winding down, had them myself.
Not even The Incredibles VHS?
3 Muskateers in my opinion is a 8 or 9/10
I remember when he said that he originally found “Kronk’s New Groove” to be just okay on his commentary on the original WDAS Animation Lookback, which definitely is not the case now.
I love this movie honestly and yes I'm very biased cause I watched this movie religious with the original.
Something tells me I might know which movie you're reviewing next:)
YES Mickey,Donald and Goofy the 3 musketeers! I love that movie
I'm calling it in! Boom Baby! My Request is up! We have seen how Disney handled their 100th Anniversary, Let's see how Mickey will handle their 20th!
I think you mean the 20th anniversary of Mickey Donald Goody the Three Musketeers.
@@retrogamelover2012agreed. Just look at Puss in Boots. Writing in both his movies is sharp, making Puss and the movies stand on their own
I kind of find it a shame that, possibly due to RUclips's bullshit algorithm, he has to kind of make these sort of spoiler-ific thumbnails to a lot of his reviews now.
Here's a funny thing. I thought Animat was going to be a bit nicer to Kronk's New Groove because I remember in his Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs review, he said Kronk's New Groove did a better father and son story than Cloudy. Turns out I was wrong.
I guess he changed his mind.
Just because one film is worse doesn't mean the other isn't bad.
I’ve been betting the message of Kronk’s New Groove might’ve been the reason why he said that
I think the next review is maybe between Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in the Three Musketeers or Mickey’s once a upon a Christmas
Another example as to how badly the CWACOM review has aged.
this sequel may not be great but damn it the one it did better than the first one was actually put earth wind and fire's "Let's Groove"
19:21-19:44 that ending was funny
Also Mickey,Donald and goofy the three musketeers is the next classic review
You know I thought for a minute there it was teacher’s pet
The only reason people even liked Kronk was because of how short and fast his comedy was, having a movie dedicated to him is not only a bad idea, but ruins the comedy of said character. Remember when Jared Leto got in on the “It’s Morbin’ time” joke? Guess what happened afterwards, it killed the meme, and made everyone hate it.
At least it almost didn't get the Garbage Seal
The Three Musketeers is next.
Hm, I see, personally I didn’t really have much problem with this Movie,
But I can understand where you’re coming from, it’s a shame.
I wonder what you think of New School?
I remember seeing the film many times before, and unlike Mat, I actually enjoyed it, mostly on Kronk's story wanting the approval of his father and the amount of comedy, characters and stories the movie had, for me, it didn't felt like a compilation of episodes from a canceled series, is more like a movie that shows some events that Kronk tried to do what his father asked for, but he gave them away because he had compassion and selflessness, plus, unlike the others, it still had the theme of the main story of the film instead of just throwing random stories that have no connection at all, also, while the animation is certainly cheap, is at least good looking and nice then other movies, so yeah, I actually like this film
Also, I swear this recent streak of films that he has reviewed that I personally have been very coincidential to say he either finds them ok, or hates them like the FNAF Movie, and this film
Next animat classic: megamind vs the doom syndicate
Makes sense
I remember watching Kronk's New Groove when it aired on TV. I thought it was okay, though it definitely suffered from Mater syndrome where a side character that was supposed to just be comic relief got an unnecessary, inferior spinoff.
Mickey Donald and Goofy 3 musketeers was my childhood
25:19 oh sweet Arceus PLEASE DONT BE PLANES.
And It’s Been nearly 20 years (it’s Not 2025 yet but we’re Almost there) since John Fiedler Has Passed away and it was his Final role in this and yeah it was devastating, RIP John Fiedler.
