It's a shame. This looks like a cool premise. Also, isn't it ironic that two of the most hated animated stories about bad luck involve members of the industry that have made themselves hated with allegations? You got this by John Lasseter and The Loud House's No Such Luck by Chris Savino. Rather a weird pattern. And, wouldn't you know it? Milo Murphy's Law is one of my favorite animated stories about bad luck, and Dan and Swampy are wonderful people! I'll tell you what's really lucky: the Anti-Fairies from the Fairly OddParents being so popular, since B*tch Hartman made them.

I’m actually glad that you mentioned the animator and other workers, who actually worked on this film than just one big name that everyone wants to forget. Seriously, the workers deserve more credit.
This may only be tangentially related, but I've always been shocked that there hasn't been more discussion of Lotso as an allegory for Lasseter in Toy Story 3, especially considering his position and how Lasseter also considered himself "a hugger".
Your comment reminds me of a video discussing how John Lasseter's views kinda seeped into the Toy Story movies, especially the blooper in Toy Story 2 with Stinky Pete and the Barbie dolls. I've linked it here: ruclips.net/video/2Tz85QuK8Fs/видео.html
Yea, I am sticking with Wolfwalkers and Charlie Brown in AppleTV+. Also, let’s not forget the last time Lassiter directed a movie was with Cars 2, the film that arguably broke Pixar’s reputation and moral.
Well Cars 2 is the Pixar film that ended their Golden Era and started the Post-Golden Era where their films released during the 2010 decade are sequels to their previous films from the previous era, 2 films that went through production trouble and change of directors resulting in 2 films that the public don’t talk about as much, and only 2 films that managed to be on par with the films of the Golden Era.
@@hunterolaughlin 'Cars 2' is just a misstep, not a film that suddenly ends an era. Pixar otherwise have made good to excellent films with two or three average films overall.
@@fictionalmediabully9830 Many feel that Cars 2 was the end of an era though, similar to how many feel The Jungle Book was the end of an era due to Walt Disney’s death.
@@hunterolaughlin That's a different story. 'The Jungle Book' is a great film, and Walt Disney's death had a legit impact on the quality of Disney's output during the '70s and '80s. There were some gems, but also some missteps, either in story (The Black Cauldron) or animation (Robin Hood). It probably didn't help that the animation industry in general reached a low point around this time. 'Cars 2' is just an example of Pixar not being a perfect studio, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone makes mistake, and it sucks they can contrive a negative stigma that gives the illusion of quality degradation that's simply non-existent.
It really is heartbreaking that John is the very same man who contributed the bear sequence from The Fox and the Hound alongside Glen Keane, (Masaaki Uasa claimed this to be one of his inspirations to animation) gave birth to PIXAR and not to mention bringing the works of Studio Ghibli to the whole world. He is also my hero and seeing him in such a state, I am very disappointed in him because I know myself that he can do better than this. The way that Skydance hired Lasseter is way too soon. Perhaps they should have hired him in, say, 10 years for the sake of Lasseter to really process his misteps.
To me, it isn't even just the sexual misconduct, it's also the fact that Lasseter did nothing to help with the movie at all. (He hurt it a lot, actually.) Legitimately, he was probably only hired either because he has connections with higher-ups, or SkyDance just thought Lasseter's name in film promotions would look good.
Nobody is perfect, some of the most creatively influential people of all time have skeletons in their closets, Pablo Picasso, John Lennon, Caravaggio, etc.
@@colbystearns5238 Nobody is perfect, but there's a difference between forgiveness and turning a blind eye to a creator's problems. Especially when that certain somebody is still showing a lot of the same problems as before and showing no sign of improvement. Lasseter fired the original director of Luck and basically hit the reset button on a lot of the film's conceptual progress, and just seemed disinterested during the whole production process. It's not like John Lasseter was a major creative in this film, he was just one of the six producers on the team, so it's not as if they're giving him a second chance at animation if all he's doing is just denying or accepting ideas for a film (that he didn't creative or envision) that he joined during pre-production. I get where you're coming from, Colby, but the thing is, just because someone is really talented, doesn't mean they shouldn't be held to a higher moral pedestal simply due to their "legend of their art" status. Again, it's not just sexual misconduct, who knows, maybe Lasseter is improving on that front, I don't know, but Lasseter is still showing that he is really letting his ego get to his head and forcing movies fit his slim template of what he considers to be a good animated story, even if that template is showing its age due to it being done to death. It's why a lot of his later work at Pixar, (specifically Brave, The Good Dinosaur,) felt like bold ideas forced into an old cookie-cutter stencil of a film, not to mention some of those films were stuck in a production nightmare due to John either firing the original female director or just not liking where the story was heading.
I know right, I really felt bad for John Lasseter because he still my favorite animator that I really grow-up with "Toy Story", "A Bug's Life" and "Cars" without him we could never got PIXAR Animation Studios.

Just retire and stop making a fool out of yourself John. You'll be better off not being in animation and being semi positively remembered as the man who helped change animation forever with Pixar and Toy story.
I mean say what you will about the guy but it’s possible without him we wouldn’t have had Pixar or Disney resurgence in its animation studio. I don’t condone his toxic behavior at all, but I dunno if we’d have films like toy story, zootopia, or tangled without him
@@michaelnally2841 It gets very complex without John invloed in those productions at all, he was the guy to go to when you wanted your film well toned and told story wise but with Luck, It shows he lost alot of his ability to do what he did before and could've not had him in the project at all and probably turn out better.
@@nickdorenkamp959 The less talked about that prevented jerk face, the better as I'm happy to know he's in jail and hated by everyone nowadays and rightly so, he was both a creep and a idiot when it came to being a producer.
I can also attest and confirm that there definitely some hard-working and decent people who worked on this movie. One of my animation mentors who was let go from Blue Sky after it shut down got hired at Skydance Animation and he was an excellent teacher and a stand-up guy. Thank you Mat for pointing out that many talented people worked on this movie and wanted to the best they can and they shouldn't be overshadowed by one toxic "creative visionary."
I'm getting a little tired of the "modern Disney" CG character style. It doesn't look awful, there's a reason it's still being used, even by studios outside of the House of Mouse, but it just doesn't wow me in a way that I know character animation is capable of doing. Funnily enough, not long after John Lasseter left Disney/Pixar, I found that at least Pixar's output animation-wise has slowly been turning a tiny bit more experimental in a way that isn't common with most popular western animation studios. (Turning Red, regardless of what you think of the story, has some amazing character design, and more noticeably, character animation.) Still a ways to go until we get more films like Into the Spider-Verse, or Wolfwakers more frequently that really push western animation past its casual movie-goer Disney-kiddie stereotype, but at least it shows that some freedom is being given to make films with different aesthetics. I just hope John Lasseter either retires or gets fired for his incompetent behavior at Skydance, because I can't see a new animation studio succeeding if it's being choke-held by the man who was largely responsible for Pixar's half-decade slump after Toy Story 3.
Even though people are saying that this film was a let down, i enjoyed it nonetheless i mean the movie itself may not have been great but the story was interesting. i mean a world where good luck and bad luck are made, that's a world i would definitely explore if it were real.

I can see where you're coming from here. While I don't know how the original vision for this film would've gone, I still think that there might be a way to incorporate all the themes you just mentioned into it.
While the story and the characters traits are good. The animation style, character designs, and world building in general is very one-note. Its almost like a REHASH version of other classic Pixar and Dreamworks animated films. This movie would have been better if the Animation style is like The Mitchell's vs. The Machines or Nimona but no it had to be that style arent it. And the character designs and world building also felt like it has been done before by other animated films. 😬😬
Something tells me that if John keeps on going with his streak of egotism, stubbornness and nepotism, the cycle will continue and Skydance will show John the door, even if it'll be too late. I also believe he's probably gonna still be creep as well
Agreed, John has a huge ego problem and could cause more outrage than praise. I hate him super badly and he/ David ellison must be removed from sky dance. I don't want to see animators and regular employees get treated horrible, I want the workers to thrive and make the best of their careers with fair respect/ honesty

This Lasseter prick has to be taken down at all cost, ask to leave sky dance and be locked away in a mental alyssum so that we can never see his dumb face ever again.
So many similarities to Rumble - Made by an animation studio that's not had a good track record (albeit by default in this case, since this is the first movie for it's studio's animation slate) - Made by a company with a guy-in-charge who's *allegedly* a total creep (John Lasseter and Vince McMahon since WWE collaborated with Paramount to make Rumble) - Main protagonist is a young woman in a world populated by both humans and anthropomorphic civilians who teams up with one of the anthro characters to save the day - The protagonist has a sentimental reason for wanting to be a hero - The story focuses on the two main heroes and doesn't do much with the other characters - It went into production with a great concept and had everything going for it to be unique and compelling, but thanks to studio meddling, the finished product is a bland "message for the kids" story with a predictable plot that just tries to be like other movies - Everything that's great about it (The concept, the animation, the visuals and the voice cast) only puts a band-aid on how bland and generic the story is, making the movie no better than mediocre and no worse than passable, combined with a lack of marketing and direct to streaming release which means it'll probably be long-forgotten in a month from now
Also, fun fact: Skydance is releasing another animated film later this year and it will also have John Lasseter as a producer. Actually, no, that's not really fun. That's depressing.
From what I can piece together, Lasseter's behavior can be boiled down to several factors. Like, him falling asleep during story meetings is the negative effect of his drinking habit (plus the fact he's pushing 65.). As for the bottlenecking, that's evident of him wanting to make the film good as possible by approving every detail, resulting in it being too restrictive. It reminds me of how the way Walt Disney would insist on approving every detail in his earlier animated films.
Also for the record, Mat, if you bother to read this at all. Luck is the first animated movie in a while for the mainstream audience that is RATED G. The last time a G-rated movie had a great impact on the animation community was the last film at PIXAR John Lasseter had his name attached, Toy Story 4. Let that sink in.
It's just probably just a big coincidence because skydance can make a PG film if they want or Pixar can go back to make a G rated movie if they want. Edit I found out there was a Paw Patrol Movie released in summer of 2021 which was Also Rated G AND in Theaters so no Luck Doesn't count sorry.
I just watched this movie myself earlier today, literally. I don't understand why people are shitting all over this movie. I think it's absolutely amazing, despite the past of certain people involved with the movie
I read your comment, I was bored, I watched the movie, and I'm glad you liked the movie, but I personally don't think it's amazing. Luck is probably least offensive animated movie I've ever seen. I can see what you got out of it, it has a pretty interesting world, but it's just that the main characters are so uninteresting to me, and it just wasn't what I was looking for, even with low expectations. Still don't let that detract from your enjoyment of the film, it's higher quality than people are giving it credit for, and there were some good moments/ideas/things I liked in the movie, just nothing I haven't seen done better in other films. The world-building of the Lucky realm is kinda cool when it wasn't being built thru ham-fisted exposition.
For me it's just looks generic. Like a mish-mash of every CGI Disney pixar movie ever ( we have Spiderverse and Bad guys now, and Disney is making Strange world. Come on! ). The story doesn't help either. I haven't seen it, but a story description should make people invested, not bored.
idk it just seems super unoriginal and boring. The animation lacks expression and sometimes doesn’t even match up with the lip sync. There’s been so many great animated movies this past 2 years that this one just seems so generic in comparison.

Pixar isnt doing themselves any favors themselves. Pete Doctor is running the place now and with Lightyear dead set on becoming a box office bomb along with director Angus McClain throwing hissy fits on twitter is not a good look for them
@@Thomasmemoryscentral That's just one setback, and you could argue that Disney themselves are a bit more at fault for Lightyear's failure since they waited so long to release a Pixar film in theaters worldwide again, and might have released it at a bad time as well. Did you really need John Lasseter to convince you to not buy a sub-par streaming service with only a few shows and films worth watching that costs a monthly fee? Because I did. Thank you, John Lasseter, for coming to my house just to rub my shoulders and convince me to not get Apple+!
It's a really barren streaming service. I do recommend Wolfwalkers and the Peanuts specials so maybe do what I did and just do the free trial week then cancel it quick before they charge you. It's actually not a bad price for what you get, but after you watch those things there's hardly much else keeping you on.
Wolfwalkers is worth the subscription. Lasseter sucks, but some of the best animation going right now is the work of Cartoon Saloon, and Wolfwalkers, IMO, is their best film.
You are the first person I’ve seen who has definitively called out John Lasseter for being a total creep during your review. I cannot thank you enough.
john ratzenberger is in this? Well no wonder Pixar dropped him as their good luck charm, they feel betrayed that he would follow John Lasseter so they dropped the whole put him in everything tradition. I also wouldnt expect him to voice hamm anymore going forward, but its possible they might make an exception. Though if they need to, Andrew Stanton can do a near perfect impression of him
Well, Pixar does have other projects featuring his characters (Hamm, the Abominable Snowman, Mack, etc.), so bringing back Ratzenberger to continue Pixar voices isn't entirely out of the question.
As Dean Hardscrabble would say: “Your luck will run out. Eventually.” Funny enough, the dragon character does look a bit like Dean Hardscrabble by some sort of coincidence. Similar attire, but lighter skin colour.
John Lasseter’s involvement with this movie sounds exactly like what he did with Brave. He threw out another director, who had a much better vision for the film, squandering the film’s potential as a result.
Yeah, tell 'em Mozart. Just because John Lasseter isn't a great person irl, doesn't mean you can't still enjoy his work or admire what he's done for the animation field. John isn't the "visionary genius" behind Pixar's success, he's just the one out of the many creatives he's worked with who all worked together to make the funny movie with talking cars. But don't give Lasseter excuses to get away with awful behavior that would result in most people in any profession being fired on the spot.
John Lasseter used to be one of my biggest influences for art and animation. It really saddens me that he has had some serious allegations 5 years ago. His life is better off if he retires. People who are just entering the industry don’t want a huge that makes them too uncomfortable. Now, I still don’t hate the guy. I just want to suggest what’s best for him. Anyways about Luck, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m a bit mixed about it. I will admit, Sam’s design is kinda cute despite looking too much like Disney’s style. The Land of Luck is highly imaginative. But the rest is left to be desired. I don’t have a subscription for Apple TV+, but I’ve always wanted to get one to watch the new Peanuts specials that they have. Once I get it, I’ll watch this as an afterthought.
So this could have been an interesting urban fantasy that could also shed light on how war doesn't just effect the people fighting but also the innocent, uninvolved people in-between... but John stuck his hands were they didn't belong....again.
A guy who started making successful, high quality animation but got fired for being hard to work with and doing some pretty shady things, but then continued work onto a smaller studio making a project where they have way more creative control and it turned out terrible? Sounds familiar to the tale of another big name in animation who was ousted to be doing some very inappropriate things.
Are we not gonna mention that Skydance Animation Madrid (formerly known as Ilion Animation Studios) are the ones that ACTUALLY worked on this, and not Skydance Animation America (which contains some of Blue Sky Studios’ employees)? For those who don’t know, Ilion Animation Studios previously worked on “Planet 51”, “Mortadelo and Filemon: Mission Implausible”, and “Wonder Park”.
*Previously on Animat’s Last year’s video* Animat: *looks at the upcoming animated movie luck* well that’s interesting who’s making this again? *check and found out it’s John lasseter* oh…oooh no…..
I thought the movie was in production even before John Lasseter took part of the studio and had little to no involvement in this movie, therefore, this movie being bad isn't his fault. But I guess not.
I've heard that too. Plus a lot of people went from Pixar to Skydance too, so whatever the real story is, we don't see the full picture. And it's interesting that Lasseter getting ousted from Disney happened around the same time they found a way to kick Steve Whitmire out of the Muppets. And more recently, Joe Rodhe, so I'm more inclined to think Disney just wants the old guard out the door, by whatever means possible.
Even if the sexual abuse allegations aren't true, that doesn't make John Lasseter a good person. You watched the video, right? Where Skydance employees said he scrapped the original script for taking too much risk and often fell asleep at board meetings.
Its almost people in this day in age in Hollywood believe in extremist woman just because "Muh victimhood" I'm sick and tired of people just believing in this shit just because "white man bad"
@E . A Because obviously Disney and the mob online forced him to do it. Not to mention, He didn't say anything about doing naughty things to them, he said "unwanted hugs" That doesn't sound sexual to me.
Aside from Luck being another generic animated feature, Lasseter was hired because of that dude shown at the end for wanting to have one his favorite icons work for him!? First off, red flag because John is know known for ruining his career by having bad behavior. Second, if he's still gonna be around to work at Skydance, then I'm honestly worried how the studio will end up. P.S. Sexually harassing people is not only bad, it's also a freakin waste of time!
I guess you could say that this movie wasn’t very Lucky. Jokes aside, I already didn’t plan on seeing it due to being exclusive to Apple TV+, but hearing John Lassenter was behind it despite basically being outed from Disney due to the skeevy shiet he pulled made what little interest I had entirely dissipate.
I don't know what is true or not, but maybe he probably was arranged on the first and second meeting, but no one's didn't listen to him, so he stop caring and let them do what they wanted. People mostly talks about other people negatives things and not their positive things.
Maybe he's so Professional that he can predict what they're going to hear in the story meeting while napping, joking aside that's basically slacking off during work time but he's so famous that when he does it, it's okay. Yeah no.
Falling asleep while at work is usually a sign of a problem, like lack of sleep at home or mental fatigue. I rather wonder if his health is actually going south. I think he's better off retiring.
I was only 7 when I saw cars and it was because of that film that I wanted to work for Disney and be a filmmaker just like John who was my childhood hero but seeing him like this I take a vow to never act the way he is now because if acting like him is what it takes to be a filmmaker than I guess I chose the wrong passion
Thumbnail’s a good summary of it. …But if you wanna see something good from Skydance Animation, I suggest watching Joe Mateo’s “Blush” on the same streaming service.
I was not interested in checking this film out anyway, and I agree that for the sake of everyone in the animation industry, it's best for John to just retire. With all the controversy he's found himself in, him being involved in "Luck" is not going to do him any favors.
By no means a great movie, and while I would hesitate to call this one of my favorite movies of the year, I actually found Luck to be pretty decent. It's undeniably formulaic and predictable for sure, but I thought there were a lot of creative ideas and concepts that went into the world of this movie and I really liked the moral about how even good things can come from bad luck. As for John Lasseter's involvement though, well, that's a whole other can of worms I'd rather not open right now. That guy should just go into retirement already.
Peeps need to stop trying to ignore and bury this just to spite John. Other people worked hard on this, and their passion for the project shows. I think it's a great movie, and more people should give it a chance. Peggy doesn't deserve to be cancelled. Fonda doesn't deserve to be cancelled. The creativity on display in this film, particularly from those two, is inspiring.
I guess I haven’t been paying attention because this is the first I’ve heard of there being sexual misconduct allegations towards John Lassiter. I owe so much to this guy (some of my favorite films, including Ghibli films that he worked on as producer, I think (at least with the English dubs)) that learning of all the negative allegations makes me feel heartbroken. 😭
❤️💖 Personality, I do have mixed feelings about this movie. One, I do loved the fact that we have a new animation studio entering the animation industry even though we lost Blue Sky a year ago. Second, I do loved the concept about Luck and it is quite interesting and unique to see the world building and creativity about Luck where does it goes between good luck or bad luck and how does luck goes. It would've been good or great if it was done by Disney or Pixar and handled the project in good hands. I do wanted to see this movie but I am not sure. I wanna give John Lasseter a second chance but after reading an article about him I kinda lost faith in him. Couldn't they pick someone else? Why not pick Lee Unkrich, the director of Finding Nemo, Toy Story 3 and Coco to be the new head of Skydance Animation? He did quit Pixar few years ago maybe he could have been good choice. What about Brad Bird? Maybe he could've another great choice. This is not a great first impression. I do wished the best of "luck" for all the animators and directors of Skydance Animation. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️
I think if this movie was directed by Pete Doctor instead, it probably would’ve been a better movie considering he did a great job with concepts like emotions like Inside Out and souls like Soul. Not to mention that this movie does have similar concepts to Monsters Inc., also directed by Pete Docter.
Skydance animation may not have a great feature debut like Blue Sky Studios with Ice age in 2002 (Rip Blue sky) or Pixar with Toy story in 1995 but the animators and cast and crew's hard work is on display dispite a loosely screenplay that just sucks being honest, needed a major rewrite as Sam having to go through life out of the foster care system because she grew up out of it and having to work and live in the real world were good scenes in my opinion just that the world building was really lazy and poorly done compared to the likes of Monsters Inc and Spirited away. John could just retire and someone would replace him at Skydance and probably do a better job too. The director of Coco has taken a leave from animation for now and is foucing on being with his family which I'm fine with. Spellbound could be skydance hit movie, just gotta wait and see.
And this is why I don't follow big names in animation too much. Big names lead to big problems. I like to go into animated movies with as little baggage as possible and let the art speak for itself.

@@zoelindwall637 It's going to be The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. Not saying I like Hotel Transilvania as a whole, but at the VERY least the movie has some better animation compared to the other bad one. As for Paws of Fury, it's not good, but at least it has better comedy and some effort....even if the excecution is bad when they tried to addapt a classic comedy to animation with almost no connection
There is so much competition in animation. There are already a ton of cute kids animation already. There is actually a way higher demand for more mature animated films.
YESSSSSSSS PLEASE AN ANIMATED ADULT FILM THAT ACTUALLY TAKES ITSELF SERIOUSLY THAT'S MADE BY A WESTERN ANIMATION STUDIO, I KNOW THAT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY IN WHICH ANIMATION IS PERCEIVED AS A CHILD'S THING AND ANY THING THAT'S MATURE WITH A CARTOON CHARACTER IS TREATED AS A GIMICK BECAUSE HAHAHA FUNNY FAMILYGUY NPC SAID A SWEAR DUDE CARTOONS NOT BEING FOR CHILDREN IS SO FARKING FUNNY IT MAKES ME WANNA MERGE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! "BOOOOOOM!!!!"
I’ll confess that despite the wrongs John Lasseter has done, whether it’d be his sexual misconduct, his nepotism and kicking off directors from their films like with Brenda Chapman, I can’t discredit him from giving him my childhood films like Toy Story & Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life and Cars. No matter how you want to view him, it doesn’t change that Toy Story & Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life and Cars are his movies and Woody, Buzz, Flik and Lightning McQueen are his characters. So I can’t discredit him from those films even if Disney currently owns them and his characters. And by the way, why does Sam look like my twin sister?
@@somedudewhodraws9377 I never said he was a pedophile. I said nobody has proof of him being one which I know is a lie. So I don't know why anyone will believe anything.
I liked this movie. The emotional moments, worldbuilding, animation and even some of the characters were good. It even had a pretty good plot twist because it made sense and I didn't see it coming. I just wished the humour was better... but I re-watched the movie recently and thought it was funnier than I remembered, but not by enough to give it a much higher rating. The movie used to be a 7/10 when I frist watched it, but after re-watching it I'll give it an 8/10.
This movie reminded me of how tired I am of the supernatural-world-is-a-bureaucracy cliche. On a different note, I think further developments in Skydance Animation will be very interesting to see.

This may only be tangentially related, but I've always been shocked that there hasn't been more discussion of Lotso as an allegory for Lasseter in Toy Story 3, especially considering his position and how Lasseter also considered himself "a hugger".
NGL I see a lot of Pixar’s twist villains in John Lassiter. Stinky Pete, Waternoose, Charles Muntz, Lotso, and Ernesto De La Cruz
"That was his mistake!"
@Lynn Loud Duchess Jr. True, but Bellweather doesn’t really have much to do with Lassenter. Unless he’s also a bigot like she was.
Lasseter was the real Disney twist villain all along.
@@hunterolaughlin
'Cars 2' is just a misstep, not a film that suddenly ends an era. Pixar otherwise have made good to excellent films with two or three average films overall.
@@fictionalmediabully9830 Many feel that Cars 2 was the end of an era though, similar to how many feel The Jungle Book was the end of an era due to Walt Disney’s death.
@@hunterolaughlin
That's a different story.
(He hurt it a lot, actually.)
Legitimately, he was probably only hired either because he has connections with higher-ups, or SkyDance just thought Lasseter's name in film promotions would look good.
Nobody is perfect, some of the most creatively influential people of all time have skeletons in their closets, Pablo Picasso, John Lennon, Caravaggio, etc.
Skydance animation existed since 2017
@@colbystearns5238 Nobody is perfect, but there's a difference between forgiveness and turning a blind eye to a creator's problems.

So many similarities to Rumble
- Made by an animation studio that's not had a good track record (albeit by default in this case, since this is the first movie for it's studio's animation slate)
- Made by a company with a guy-in-charge who's *allegedly* a total creep (John Lasseter and Vince McMahon since WWE collaborated with Paramount to make Rumble)
- Main protagonist is a young woman in a world populated by both humans and anthropomorphic civilians who teams up with one of the anthro characters to save the day
- The protagonist has a sentimental reason for wanting to be a hero
- The story focuses on the two main heroes and doesn't do much with the other characters
- It went into production with a great concept and had everything going for it to be unique and compelling, but thanks to studio meddling, the finished product is a bland "message for the kids" story with a predictable plot that just tries to be like other movies
- Everything that's great about it (The concept, the animation, the visuals and the voice cast) only puts a band-aid on how bland and generic the story is, making the movie no better than mediocre and no worse than passable, combined with a lack of marketing and direct to streaming release which means it'll probably be long-forgotten in a month from now

I hope that film turns out better.

So far, the way Skydance Animation and their films are being structured feels like they're just trying to replicate far more relevant studios, hence the hirings of many old recognizeable names from Disney or DreamWorks (EVEN BEFORE Lasseter came in!) but without understanding what truly made their films good.

Thank you, John Lasseter, for convincing me NOT to get an Apple TV+ subscription.
Good thing I don't have Apple plus
I think Coda’s best picture Oscar win would convince you to get a subscription
All the characters of this film look like they are an online casino mascot and not in a good way
John Lasseter’s involvement with this movie sounds exactly like what he did with Brave.

@@DeceivingStareYTP He has an ego too problematic to handle unless a therapist can give him a piece of his mind to just stop bullying people.
A former Pixar Employee said that the hugs were not sexual and that no one filed a complaint. She even defended John

Jokes aside, I already didn’t plan on seeing it due to being exclusive to Apple TV+, but hearing John Lassenter was behind it despite basically being outed from Disney due to the skeevy shiet he pulled made what little interest I had entirely dissipate.
Honestly, a movie's success should only depend on its quality and not how it came to be.
Someone in the article said Lasseter is a "story master". Yeah, okay🙄especially when he falls asleep during a story meeting. How professional.
Lol.

I heard it’s really good. I’m hoping sky dance begins to make unique and orginal projects too.
I was not interested in checking this film out anyway, and I agree that for the sake of everyone in the animation industry, it's best for John to just retire. With all the controversy he's found himself in, him being involved in "Luck" is not going to do him any favors.
this movie would have been better if Oswald the Lucky rabbit was the main character in this movie (saying this jokingly) 😂
I love when people mention a movie's score in a review, and I especially love you giving John Debney some well deserved praise

I think if this movie was directed by Pete Doctor instead, it probably would’ve been a better movie considering he did a great job with concepts like emotions like Inside Out and souls like Soul. Finding Nemo was actually directed by Andrew Stanton.
@@laurajones1773 True, but Lee Unkrick was credited as a co-director of Finding Nemo along with Andrew Stanton as the main director for the role.
Didn’t know that. I thought Lee Unkritch only directed Toy Story 3 and Coco.
