The lack of Lin Manuel Miranda as songwriter was pretty concerning. Say whatever you want about him but he made some incredible bops for Disney and was one of the reasons why the first Moana was so fantastic
At least he's doing mufasa The Lion King so at least his presence is going to be in that movie and I'm glad he's a part of the movie making new songs for it.
Loved those songs from the first one
@@RattlesnakeJake101 between him doing the music and them having the animals actually show emotion this time around, I'm giving mufasa a chance.
Bro why yo pfp match your tone on this comment😂
Kinda makes me not wanna see it, his music made the movie amazing
This month, I took my ten-year-old daughter to see two animated films in theaters. The first was *Moana 2*, a polished, big-budget sequel from one of the major studios. The kids sat silently, and the parents-myself included-were nodding off. It felt like the story was on autopilot, rehashing familiar beats without risk or spark.
The second film was *Flow*, a breathtaking production from an independent Latvian studio. The experience couldn’t have been more different. The children in the audience couldn’t sit still-not from boredom but from the sheer emotional energy pouring off the screen. Audible gasps, bursts of laughter, and even some tears filled the theater as kids (and adults) reacted viscerally to what was unfolding before them.
Days later, my daughter and I can’t stop talking about *Flow*. It was daring, heartfelt, and utterly unlike anything we’d seen before. I’m certain it will stay with her-and the other kids in the audience-for years to come, shaping the way they think and feel about stories.
This stark contrast highlights a growing problem with the major animation studios: they don’t take risks anymore. They recycle ideas and play it safe, ensuring broad commercial appeal but losing the magic that makes animation memorable and transformative. If we want new, exciting experiences that truly connect with audiences, we have to look to independent studios like the one behind *Flow*. They're the ones keeping animation alive, vibrant, and relevant.
Moana 2 is a sequel that exists!

Op
Marketing for this movie was like my dad
nonexistent💀🙏
No you just didn’t want too see it so
@@Nahifegggfegggfweit was
Your dad must be present then, because this movie took up most of the ads I’ve seen on multiple devices (with personalized ads off) and I’ve seen it on some TV spots, it’s clearly being marketed and working, it’s just not being marketed towards you then.
You clearly don’t have the problem of Disney plus with ads.
I didn't even know moana 2 release today 😂
It comes out tomorrow!
@@aaronjackson2126 oh, different time zone haha
I thought it come out on the 24 of next month
The marketing is very lacking imo
Yeah watched an bit for the marketing also the trailers
It was originally a series... remember how Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally a movie that was stretched out into a series?
I never even knew that Obi-Wan was supposed to be a movie, smh for making it a show
Armor Wars went from a series, to a movie, to probably not existing lol
He said this in the first 2 mins lol
Maybe they figured they could just double the budget for marketing the live action from the saved money from this films marketing
One thing I’ve noticed that I never thought would be the case with Disney…
The thanksgiving release slot is now a VERY bad sign for their movies…
Because every animated movie that has had the thanksgiving release for the past few years has had almost no marketing and has underperformed or been lower quality…
2021: Encanto massively underperformed due to marketing
2022: strange world got no marketing and flopped.
2023: wish flopped due to bad reviews.
2024: Moana 2 got little marketing and is getting mid reviews…
Prior to Covid the thanksgiving slot was a guaranteed success. Frozen (1 and 2) Ralph breaks the internet, coco, Moana, all were massive successes! But now that thanksgiving slot is a bad sign.
Hopefully Zootopia 2 will change this trend in 2025…
This is very interesting and spot on. The November movie month release used to be a magical moxie time frame, and now I'm sad it isn't 😅 I will always think of Harry Potter debuts in November when I reflect back (yes, I know that's not a Disney property)
At best, at least Encanto had some songs that became a huge hit and won an Oscar so it didn't seemed all that bad after all
I think encanto undrperformed because people were still getting used to no lockdown and mostly watched it on Disney+. To be honest I didn’t even know that movie was in theaters I thought it went straight to streaming. Also Lin Manuel popped off with the soundtrack and overall the movie was peak.
@@Cashcorn oh I’m not saying the movie is bad by any means. I do really enjoy Encanto
It did underperform mainly due to its release on disney+ less than a month after its release but there also was very little marketing when it was released in theaters which is a result of the post-pandemic lifestyle of 2021.
But it still underperformed nonetheless
If it weren't for COVID-19, Moana 2 will be as great as the first one.😢
🗿Kraven the Hunter and Sonic and mufasa 2 coming this December
Yo Vicsclips!
😤😤
If there’s no tamatoa, I ain’t watching
I hope there is, I want more Shaffrillas pictures

Every actual movie goer(weekly) would have seen Moana 2 advertised. It was advertised at my theater at every movie we've watched in the past two months.
I had to google the trailer…. And this is coming from someone in the movie algorithm
Disney changes their Disney+ show to a movie
Cris: you’re better off just streaming it😭
Does the knowledge that this was initially a Disney+ series impair the viewers ability to critique? They go into the film already looking for holes in the story.
I didn’t even know that fact bout Toy Story 2 but that’s really cool. Also love the vids Chris hope ur doing great 😊 ❤
I actually just got a job at the palladium, and I actually got to keep up with the release date of Moana 2 and will definitely be checking it out.
This sounds about right, even other people have called the songs forgettable lmao.
I'm watching this movie and omg I see what you mean with the Disney + series feeling. You can tell Moana 2 was not meant for the big screen 😭
I didn't even know this movie comes out this year, let alone this month. I thought the trailer I watched was for next year.
Remember who is for….children, they love it..
Heck, I forgot this movie even existed
@@bld-11 I didn't even know it will release this week
@marcjames64 me neither lol
Same doesn’t feel like it’s coming out already but I’ll check it out when I can 😂
Also want shorts with those coconut monsters. Liked all the added cast, but those things have more heart.
I’ve gotten so many ads for Moana 2. It really just depends on algorithm and what you watch.
I do feel that Disney released this at the wrong time. Wicked advertising was overpowering Moana 2. It’s kind of hard to promote the movie everywhere especially if you have little interest in Disney, it just wont appear in your feed.
The new gladiator movie is an example. I had no idea the movie existed until it released the same day as wicked.
Moana 2 improve alot more then the first one especially the songs
I felt like this movie didn’t even happen 😭
It didn't nothing happen That's the problem nothing happened there was no reason for this sequel to exist You can tell that there's so much that was cut and condensed since it was supposed to be a TV series animation is beautiful but that ain't enough to save the story it's just like frozen too another movie that they didn't have a plot for or plan for and it's just there and a coattail on name alone and because the first movie was successful
See, this is why sequels should never dominate original IPs
I’m interested to see this, I kinda knew it wasn’t gonna be as good as the first, cuz it was supposed to be a tv show. But I’ll still give it a chance
how was it
@ it was pretty good, the first one is better and more memorable, especially with Lin Manuel doing the songs in the first one
See the light as it shines on the sea
It's blinding
But no one knows
How deep it goes
And it seems like it's calling out to me
So come find me
And let me know
What's beyond that line?
Will I cross that line?
The line where the sky meets the sea
It calls me
And no one knows
How far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea
Stays behind me
One day, I'll know
How far I'll go
Moana was biggest streamed movie of the year 6 years after it was released, this should be huge marketing
I think it's pretty unnecessary that we got a sequel to Moana 8 Years later + including a live action version of the original that Disney is also filming.
What's funny is that, Jared Bush who is currently the CCO of Walt Disney Animation, is writing the sequel and the live action remake at the same time 😅
@@Erasureeraser talk about a lot of work to handle 😭
my organic chem lab instructor is one of the few people I know that was interested in this
I actually forgot this movie was being released this week too! Disney definitely could've did better marketing this movie
I think this movie was very overshadowed by Wicked's insane marketing that came a week before Moana 2. And yet we're still hyping about Wicked and it's marketing to the point that most people forgot that Moana 2 came out this week
I'm a police officer on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii and i was working special duty at the live action filming of the live action moana. All im going to say it's going to be good
I hope this movie is shows that Disney really are back!😊
I just got back from it. Fell asleep for 20 minutes at three different parts. I wanted to like it so bad.
was it good?
Where that weirdo bot at WE MUST COMBAT THEM
Which one?
@ the one that says “real 3C FANS ARE YOU HERE”
It's here!! 2 comments above you!!!😭😭
Ack! Destroy it!!!
I didn't even know it was supposed to be a tv show. Now I can see it
I loved Moana 2 very much! I enjoyed seeing some of the original characters and I liked the newly introduced characters. The spirit characters were so heart warming! 10/10!
I just saw this movie -- i thought it was really slow in the beginning and alot of clips looked cut in the movie i noticed.... like from a show
Alot of parts didn't make sense and the story was very basic!...
It could have been alot better
Alot of the parts were slow and didn't make scene and it was hard to build up with the characters...
The movie was too fast pass?
I mean yes there is some enjoyable parts and funny.. but it wasn't that good
And scene this was a show but turned into a movie i feel like that just destroyed the movie and ruined alot of potential with it
I thought the Villan didn't feel like a bad girl in the movie she seemed to nice for my liking i wish they told us more about her the story that would have been alot nice the songs were kinda bad.... and flat honestly i was not very impressed
Lets hope the 3rd movie if there is one it will be good 😢
It's really good, especially the ending and how it sets up Moana for future adventures. My kids loved it!! Moana is critic proof. She is an IP like Mario which can get mixed reviews but they have zero impact and will make a billion worldwide. She is too powerful for any criticism.
The Maui hairline 😂😂😂😂
I can't wait to see this movie
Now I can't wait a third one
Saw it today. It's a good one time watch 👍
In the first 30 min of the movie there’s a part where I kinda new that that was the original 1st episode of the Disney plus show. They mashed them together and just decided to make a movie!

Expecting a lot of weak sauce toward the end of the year, this included but hey... I'm looking forward to your take on Sonic 3. I got a good feeling.
Firstttt. Love your videos 3c keep it up
I didn't even know it was releasing this week, literally no hype at all I feel like everyone is talking about wicked instead
It was an enjoyable movie. My daughters loved it.
I watched it. It's just got into darker version where getting kinda serious
Not like the first one
Now Moana is getting upgrade
Can't wait to see Moana 3.
She'll be facing Nalo.
The closest thing to the production of Moana 2 is Atlantis: Milo's Return and Belle's Magical World than Toy Story 2. Those 2 direct to video sequels were basically the living corpse of animated shows based off of Atlantis and Beauty and the Beast only to then get canceled and were reworked into sequels instead.
crazy that as soon as you said they didn't market it well, I think they herd you because i got hit with a full moana trailer mid video😂
This sounds like a “could have been an email” situation 😅😅
Okay, but which Disney sequel is better this year: Moana 2 or Inside Out 2?
Inside Out 2 for certain. As someone who wasn’t the biggest fan of the first Inside Out and a fan of the first Moana.
I Wasn't Excited For Either During The Leadup To Their Respective Releases (Due To General Burnout On Disney), But Positive Word Of Mouth For Inside Out 2 (Even From Non-Disney Glazers) Got Me To Change My Mind. I Still Haven't Seen Moana 2 (And I Don't Think I Really Will In Theaters) Though.
Inside out 2 is much better
@@SamArt6607 Agreed.
Transformers One!!
The fact that the villain is worse than Magnifico is encouraging.
Great Review Chris Still really excited for this movie
I THOUGHT IT RELEASE NEXT WEEK. I NEED TO GET MY TICKETS
PS love the sonic vid
Save your money watch it home…
Can we just tell Disney and every studio collectively that at least WE DON’T WANT LIVE-ACTION adaptation of EVERYTHING?
Agree Chris! Great review!
Happy thanksgiving!!
Maybe they figured they could double down on the live action marketing instead of spending alot on this one. Instead spend a lot on the next one
Not sure where you all been. I have been seeing advertising all over. Saw commercials during football over the weekend. Saw it all over ESPN tonight.
Sports channels shouldnt really be the measure of marketing effect.😅
@@lol-ot4pn If its on the sports channels going after adults, it is prob in a lot more places.
@ It depends though. There is no algorithm to sports channel ads. There is an algorithm in social media where those ads count the most.
I wonder if Moana 2 leads to more Disney+ series being turned into movies for the upcoming future!
But one thing that I’m actually curious about is, what do you think of the villain in the movie? What’s your honest opinion on that one?
Pov: when I see my favorite RUclipsr upload
🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🎶🎶🎶🎶 (Break dancing)
Sad that they couldn't make a great sequel, but I have a feeling that the box office numbers will be pouring in for the live action remake!!
No way I got my first Moana 2 ad in this video
#3CFilmsSquad 😎
Just for home from watching it
I fell asleep twice
It makes sense that it was a salvaged series to a movie. The songs SUCKED, Lin Manuel Miranda was definitely missed.
With all that said, I slept for like 5 min twice
Not a bad movie but not a goooooood movie. Decent for the kids!!! Hope you guys enjoy the movie!
My AMC was selling their Moana tickets yesterday for Tuesday discounted ticket prices I didn't pay any more than $7 to go see it yesterday
I think that what happened is that the series may have been leading to a proper Moana 2 but then they saw that the mcu series leading to movies have been a failure so they panicked and decided to just make the series into a movie that way the third one which was actually supposed to be the second one doesn’t flop like how the marvels did since people don’t have to watch a series before hand and just have to watch the two theatrical Moana movies
I wonder if Moana 2 is as good as hit Film X Men Origins which is where that Wolverine video was supposed to start 🤨
Chris for once I have to disagree with you I feel that the songs were still pretty vibrant and catchy I don’t find that they fell flat at all
Can’t believe the 1st one came out in 2016
Thanks! I would rather go see Wicked again or save my money for Sonic 3 in 4 weeks.
Might as well save your money on Sonic 3 as well. That movie looks mid, story is goofy.
Showcase has Tuesday bargain which is $5 bucks lol I always go on Tuesday with my wife spend $10 bucks 😂
I just watched Moana 2 yesterday. Me, my sister and niece loved it. I think you should give it a try.
Buddy if you want to be taken seriously by any female you would tell her you watched Kraven the Hunter and not Wicked
@@ArmedandDangerous918 I’m not really interested in Kraven by the way. Also, I watched Wicked with my sister and nieces and the movie itself was great.
I only just learned Today that Moana 2 existed.
I watched it 20 mins ago and I can confirm that there will be a Moana 3. Because of the end credits. It plays a short movie, and it shows the god itself and the badlady and the crab. The god said that this is the start.
how was it
It's tough, right?
I saw the movie and agree that it'll be better watched at home (Although, I have AMC Stubs A-List, so it was really no skin off my back)...
That said, if it doesn't get the money/box office numbers needed, it may not get a third movie to redeem itself.
Why did this movie take 8 years to release?
At least we know that Schaffrillas will get some new material with someone in particular showing up.
Nothing gets me excited like a sequel that’s just meant to set up another sequel lol
CHRIS PUT SOMETHING IN THAT DAMN BLUE CORNER I BEG U
It follows the track record of Disney sequels being a fraction of that which came before.
They could have reworked this as a summer blockbuster for next year, and axed the live action bc really? 😭
First & Jeremy beat you Chris on the review part
Hey Chris. You going do a review for dear santa
I fell asleep in the theater. Trust me I was really trying so hard to pay attention and enjoy it.
I’m sorry, but I wanted this. Disney just wants money and to be honest they kinda deserve the downfall as all they seem to care about the money and not about making a good story.
Oh Chris don't say it's meh we're planning a family night out
Hey Chris, keep doing what you're doing. And have you reviewed strange darling?
cris when are you coming back to letterboxd?? i miss your reviews lol
You know what would be cool, is if the live action film is secretly Moana 3
Even if it was a series would people still like it
Did u talk about Thanksgiving 2 coming out soon?
Disney adults like Schafrillas are already coping so hard because this is a harmless family feature, Moana is a huge thing in D+
Cringe.
@Feliciathedoll I know right
I didn’t even know this film was being made
The merch we got at boxlunch was mediocre. The shirts look like print on demand style, so basic, and blah. Funkos haven't sold well either. Not much of a push, I agree.
My red flag, was lack of any marketing. Didn't realize it released this weekend.
Oh you address this lol
This movie came out already? I forgot this movie was even coming out to begin with lol. I literally thought this was happening next year. It just feels like a next year movie to me. Idk why lol
