Can't believe they got rid of the Brady Bunch bunks with the desk under the bed. It was like a little cave to hide out in.

I’m a sophomore in highschool, what do I need to try and do to make it into USAFA?

Thats awesome you're considering USAFA! I didnt begin to consider USAFA until I was a senior in high school, and didnt get in the first time, but I learned a lot about the process.
There isnt one set path to getting into USAFA or any other service academy. Theres a whole system they use to calculate if a student is to be successful here, so you need to make sure you get through the initial screening process: your academic record. Make sure to maintain a strong record, and take challenging classes at your school. I had good grades, but not the best grades, and I barely met the SAT requirement. I wasnt perfect, but I compensated in other areas.
Don't just have your head in the books, though. Try and get a leadership position in a club or sport, and community service is helpful too. I did a lot of sports, and did a research project in AP Research class. I also did a year of college and did ROTC well and did well - which brings me to the fact that if you dont get in the first time, dont be afraid to give it another shot. I had a lot of leadership opportunities and that gave me an edge.
Get in shape! Start working out so you can do well on the Candidate Fitness Assessment. I made sure to get as high of a score as possible on this one because I feel like its often overlooked, so stand out.
During your interview, be straight up and dont try and pretend to be the best person to have ever lived, because lets face it, you arent (nobody is). We all have unique qualities, failures, and ways we've improved throughout life. So show that chip on your shoulder and show how you've grown from failure. You arent invincible, and dont act like you are on the interview.
Throughout the application process, make sure to communicate with USAFA any big develops/improvements you have had sense submitting your package. They care and they take note of it. I emailed them a lot on new accomplishments. I think it shows continued interest they like to see.
I'm not expert, and honestly dont know how I got in, but I hope this helps.

What do they look for in applications?

      Academics, athletics, and leadership.

Hey! Sorry for a really late response. What helped me the most was being vulnerable to the fact that I, like everyone else here, isnt perfect. Make sure to look good, but also, don't be afraid to talk to your interviewer about hardships you've had, or things you need to improve on. It's important to reflect that you are still improving, because while at the Academy, you will be facing constant challenges, and you wont be the best at everything, so make sure to show that you are ready to grow. Hope this helps!

@@JohnUltimateOfficial Hey I love the Air Force, and I am currently a freshman in highschool. Do you have any in depth advice to get into the Air Force Academy? @@rvzty_1currently a senior going through the Air Force academy application process. Start early. Get yourself familar with who you have to apply to nominations for. Also look for clubs and extracurricular to join. Any leadership programs you can join go for it.

Excuse me but. I want to pursue a career in aerospace. Should I go to the air force academy or no? I currently go to civil air patrol and I'm in the air force junior reserve officer training corps

USAFA has one of the best aerospace programs in the nation and is one of the best places to go to pursue aerospace careers - if you are comfortable with a military commitment, then you should apply to USAFA for aerospace.
