I have done track overall for three years so far, one year in swim, and 5 years in band playing the French horn. I don’t know what my gpa is yet but it’s around 3 weighted, I think. Everyone in schools knows me because I’m social and everyone enjoys my company. I am switching school for junior year and senior year to join a college and career academy in welding. Sorry for writing this in the not best form. I’m typing this very late at night, May anyone tell me so for if I have a shot and what should I fix to get my chances higher.
To be competitive, you need a 3.6+ , your SAT/ACT could pull the weight of your GPA but I suggest you keep working hard. The Academy would prefer a person who received a B- in an AP/Honors course than a person who received an A+ in an easy course.
Thank you man. I’m going into my junior year in hs and will be applying to the academy soon. The best I can get my gpa up to b4 I apply is a 3.7 and I’m studying to get atleast a 30 ACT. Do you think I can bring it up during my ALO interview? Or do I have to contact USAFA admissions directly to let them know so they can update my application profile?
Do you think not being in any sports during high school would disqualify me from getting into USAFA? Your GPA is solid right now , shoot for higher to increase your chances. A sport is a pretty decent part of your application but you can make up for his with high test scores and community service hours. You can get guided through your process by going through the USAFA website and looking for your ALO, should be a tab.
Sports aren't required at all, but HIGHLY recommend. If you take one your senior year, it's better than none. There are two reasons for being in a sport: 1) when you're applying, you need to pass the fitness test called the CFA, and just because you may pass doesn't mean that you're competitive. The higher you score on it, the better you're chances. Even if you don't do sports, you should spare some time to get in shape (if you're not already) and train for the CFA. 2) the other reason ties in with leadership roles. Participating in a sport can give you a chance of having a good letter of recommendation from a coach. Best of luck to you and I hope you get in!

Yes you have a good shot, as of now you're competitive. Definitely shoot for a 1400+ and don't forget to try out the ACT also.
I am taking average classes and have decent grades would sports compensate for the loss in academics
Wait your from Clayton county GA, if so I’m from here to🥳🥳

@@dullie2x229 YO I’m just a few minutes south from y’all in Fayetteville 🔥🔥
Also, would a 3.7 unweighted GPA and a 1260 SAT plus some achievements like leadership academy, beta club, national merit, and 1 year in my schools aviation academy be considered ?
@@AlexG-th3co I would say that is very appealing for the board. That is a nice GPA (Average is 3.8), and a really nice SAT score. It is also good that you are top in your classes and show good leadership positions. With the aviation part it shows you have a passion for aviation.
I’m going in to 10th grade, and when I took the ACT in 7th grade, I made a 17, but I had one of the highest reading scores at my school. I currently have a 4.0 gpa, and I run track and I am involved in many organizations like FBLA and Student Government. Do you think I’m on course to make it in?
Yeah, you fit the bill perfectly! Just make sure to improve on any ACT subjects you may be struggling with, because the average superscore for accepted people is about 30-31
@@jshear2795 Sure thing, I am taking an ACT Prep class at my high school that should help with that, thanks for the advice!
@@pbscars6320 Hell, you're already more competitive than I am, and I'm a senior.
@@jshear2795 😬I just hope I can hold on to my 4.0 GPA through high school
@@pbscars6320 Don't worry dude, you got this! Everytime I feel worried or doubtful about going, I think about all the cool things about going to usafa (zero tuition, being able to travel overseas, etc.), and that motivates me again to do ACT practice, CFA training, etc. Just stay positive and determined and you'll do just fine. 👍
Class of 2020 here, I couldn’t take the SATS/ACTS cause of COVID. Is that a valid excuse for not taking it or do i actually have to take it for candidate status? Thanks!
You need a score, take it as soon as possible.
Does orchestra or any music related classes help get in?
No because it's an elective
I'm playing idk
Yes , they ask about it on your application.
Hey, I got a question. If I take dual-enrollment courses, does the academy ask me to send them? And, will it be advantageous to take these courses, like when the Academy sees that I do well in them. Thanks bro
Yes there's an advantage. Take as much as you can!
Is there an Asvab?
Hi thank you so much for this video. I am currently a sophmore and I have a 4.5 GPA and a 1490 SAT I am hoping this will help me pass the academic criteria of the admissions process. I just wanted to ask if you had taken any SAT subject tests if so what were they?
I didn't take any and honestly, I haven't met anyone who has. You're on track but if you can improve then go for it! Is it a 4.5 weighted or unweighted?
Are you from india?
What’s the application process like in terms of the interview? Is it fully online and do they accept people from other states?
The interview is typically online through Skype.
If you have a degree do you still need to take the SAT ?
Hi, I’m a junior in high school with a 3.95 unweighted GPA, and I’m wondering if my hs career is good enough for the academy. I did band for 2 years, first chair in the wind ensemble my second year, 2 years of water polo and swim (hoping to be captain next year) , sga ( running for Vice President for senior year), dual enrollment, and all my high school classes (except sga) are ap. I also am a lifeguard for my community pool and have over 200 community service hours. Do I need to add more diversity to stand out?
You are a perfect candidate, your SAT scores just need to reflect
I took a gap year and I ended my senior year with a gpa of 3.2 and i want to take my act does this affect my chances of getting in, this is my dream school I would really love to get in
P.S. I subscribed and turned on post notifications.
Sorry for the late response. It does not really affect you as much -- you just have to make sure you have very competitive scores to offset your GPA. I would also recommend taking some college courses.
Do we have to take the ACT too?
I am about to be a senior and have not taken any AP classes or honors classes due to my school being small and not offering them. My school also has a 7 pt grading system instead of 10. Do you think this limits my ability to get accepted?
You should be fine as long as your SAT/ACT scores are at or above average. AP and honors courses would only make you slightly more competitive.
If I have like a 2.0 gpa is it possible to get into the airforce, how much does it affect getting in?
you have to have a 3.8+ gpa so you prob wont get accepted
@@aeuid nah that not true I been talking to alotta people and my uncle in there and he had like a 1.5 gpa and he's in, just think how many people are in alotta people join because they couldn't get a good education and thats there only option I just need my application to look a little better with like volunteer work or sum
@@shauntaviousweatherspoon7909mbmb and they must've done a lot of other things other than raising their gpa. anyways good luck on getting in!
@@aeuid thankss!
There isn't a GPA requirement for joining the Air Force as an enlisted member.
I don’t have many service hours (barely any to be honest) but I do have a job and I’ve been in varsity sports since freshman year. Would those two things sort of counter act my low amount of service hours?
They would not necessarily counter act, but community service is not required. It just helps you out. It is not necessarily a deal breaker.
so say I get into the prepschool because my scores on the SAT and ACT are also kinda low and I go threw prep, that does or doest go towards ur 4 years huh? like I go to prep and then I have still 4 years to go thew with the academy?
Yupp, Ther P is like a Gap year but you're learning how to learn and study.
Does a sport still count if I don't do it in school but in another team (a club) outside of school?
Yes it counts
@@dullie2x229 thank you, also, I’m taking ap classes along with pre ap classes (I have A’s in all my classes), and I was wondering if they view pre ap classes the same as regular classes?
@@calichin11 you have an upper hand by taking AP classes , especially if you have A’s in then. Also try hard on the AP exams, you can potentially validate some classes.
@@dullie2x229 Thank you for the advice.
Bro, how did you get it? The average CFA is way higher than what you got, the average SAT and ACT is way higher than what you got I don't understand.
I don’t think you watched the whole video. Usafa looks at the person as a whole. Your scores don’t strictly define your chances. I had a 4.2 gpa , was taking college courses in HS, did a lot of community service , I have my ppl , I was #5 in my class, etc. Regarding scores , they also look at your sub score. My English sub score was very high but I was deficient in math. Regarding the cfa scores, the average is based off the previous year , I maxed a good portion of the cfa but was deficient in sit-ups. My deficiencies were what got me to the prep school. Does that address your confusion?
@@dullie2x229 Yes thanks a lot for the clarification
if my mile time is 8:00 is that really bad?
For a female , that’s really good actually. My mile was 7:47

There is an international section on the usafa website, that’s where you should start
When did you turn in your application and when did you get notify about your appointment? Awesome video btw!
I turned in my application late November and received a notification early April
@@dullie2x229 can you still update your application after submitting? Like if you get involve in new clubs as time goes by, can you add to the application?
How do I get above a 4.0 gpa
it's weighted. So, if you take ap classes you can get above a 4.0
If my GPA is 3.9 at the end of my junior year (Regular classes no AP, maybe 2 honors English and Math) and my SAT score is a 1270, no sports all high school, My father, grandfather, other grandfather, both uncles, Step dad, grandmother, and a whole bunch more were in the military (Mostly Marines) I been on NJROTC Drill team 2 years, an eagle scout, the Senior Patrol Leader of the biggest troop in my area, and over 160 hours of community service. How many AP/Honors classes should I take?I’m currently a freshman doing none, but planning on taking two honors next year. As well as taking dual enrollment in my local collage this summer.
Honestly, just take all honors. Literally honors is just the same as regular class but a bit more stress. Honestly it’s worth taking honors and if you know you really good at a subject maybe take AP’s either sophomore or junior year
take as many as you can handle , remember .. quality over quantity.
@@dullie2x229 Ok thanks for the advice.
oh man do you think sat can make up for gpa, like i have a 1540 rn without studying gonna aim for 1590/1600 but these last 2 quarters (I’m a junior) have been really rough, probably gotta couple C’s in my APs... have all A/A- freshman and sophomore year tho, but my gpa’s fucked 🥲 might be like 3.3 or something
You’re fine for now , you have a whole year to get it back up. A 3.3 is not terrible, if you’re below a 3.6 you might get a letter for the prep school since your SAT is so high. You’re still pretty competitive!
@@dullie2x229 thank you for the quick reply and advice!!!
