How to swim: Breaststroke

  • Breaststroke is swum on the chest with no rotation of the torso. A breath is taken after every stroke. You come up out of the water to breathe. You are not only moving forward but also up and down when swimming breaststroke. The arms and legs move symmetrically together yet independently of each other. First the arms, then the legs. Breaststroke is a challenging stroke on competition level, but can also be swum at a slow speed, making it a popular recreational stroke.

This is the best Breast Stroke demonstration/explanation ever! 👌🤘 I have seen multiple short and long videos which couldn't give me clarity on this stroke. Even videos from reputed channels which were more than 20 minutes didn't take me anywhere. But this less than 4 minute video was all I needed to learn this stroke. I subscribed to this channel after seeing this video as I was thoroughly impressed. Heartfelt thanks to SwimGym team for putting up great quality content! Happy Swimming everyone! 😊

Best video by far. Looks inefficient:
    1. Pull as you breathe.
    2. Pray, then push
    3. Kick afterward.
    Do this for butterfly please.

I agree with other comments, this is the best demonstration of breastroke technique I have found. A question I have is: I have felt that when recovering my legs the pressure of the water on the bottom of my feet (as they go upwards, with the toes a little lower than the heel) actually has a propulsive effect, as well as allowing the body to come out of the water more (because the feet going up pivots the body) but I have never seen this mentioned. I think I can see a little of this in the swimmer in this video.

Sure you could, but then it would not officially be breaststroke according to the rules. However, you can swim like that in freestyle, if you want to. The freestyle kick with breastroke arms is a good tempo drill though
