    I would say her arms are pulling a little too far back. Her elbows shouldn't pass the side of her body. The most common mistake I see in breaststroke as a coach is pulling back too far and coming up too high in the water, which forces the hips down and creates drag. Just an FYI to anyone learning breaststroke!

    I have never been a good swimmer nor very interested in it but i am into fitness and have always understood the benefits of it so i have started swimming i have done 2 sessions and tried front crawl (witch on my second attempt was better because i sorted out my breathing) and attempted breast stroke and done it COMPLETELY WRONG but i am really determined to learn it so thank you very much this video was very informative and i must say i am really enjoying swimming it's great and hopefully i will get better lol.

    at 2:46 ,i think her arms are too far backwards, elbows not stable enough to catch water, the elbows act as an pivot point to support the body

  • @jonmanilenio

    pull and breathe, extend arms, kick and glide... is it necessary for the body to rise out of the water like that? it looks like a tremendous waste of energy and momentum...

    Breaststroke is the only one I have mastered as of yet. Want to try free style but for some reason can not move my legs efficiently. This comes naturally to me but not the freestyle.

    • @kenerry
      @kenerry 10 лет назад +1

      Believe me I've swum breaststroke for 20 years and am still in a mess with freestyle(frong crawl). That's why I recently read alot videos here trying to figure out the problem. This OP's channel and GoSwim's are my most favorate. I've also learned that if one masters breaststroke before learning freestyle, the longer the gap the harder for the latter, especially to some people like me, with deep instinction of breaststroke which turns out to be a disaster for freestyle :(

    no one is probably reading this, but quick tip; your shoulders should not be coming this far back, as if they exit the water you will be disqualified. Also don't come so far out the water as it can slow you down, hope this helps! X

    It's fast and easy for me. I'm a good distance swimmer with breaststroke but freestyle wipes me out and slows me down. I think if you have smaller lung capacity this is easier because you can get better fuller breathing. :P

    When first begin learning breaststroke I thought it was impossible for me, but after my elementary level I knew this is the best swimming style & technique ever. The most difficult part for me is timing of breathing, I'm performing this improperly causing me to be out of breath for swimming just a short distance. Please advise, cheers.

    Why does she emerge so much from the water, so highly?

    • @Cynicaltak
      @Cynicaltak 9 лет назад +1

      +Tze-wei Lim that way we leap forward further, competitive swimmers do that. I dont haha

    • @tze-weilim1632
      @tze-weilim1632 9 лет назад +1

      Tak Lillerud Thanks for responding. But really? How can you go further with that much upper body elevation? As I do, with barely a peek above the water, I sink right down afterwards, creating so much drag I come to a stand-still.

    • @Cynicaltak
      @Cynicaltak 9 лет назад +6

      +Tze-wei Lim It is like jumping really... You go further forward like that but it is just one of many factors only. Hyper streamline body position reduces the drag, delay the kick a bit.. Wait until your arms fully extended then kick also maximizes the glide (I still have to fight my instinct all the time not to kick too early) . Search 'breaststroke separation drill' you will get a better picture.

    • @tze-weilim1632
      @tze-weilim1632 9 лет назад +3

      Tak Lillerud I see. Thank you! Delaying the kick seems like good advice I will try.
      But this model in the video doesn't look like she is going forwards much with all that elevation.

    that breaststroke isn't that good, for one thing , her arms aren't tucked into her chest, she needs to make sure her elbows don't go past her shoulders, this will then allow more acceleration into the stroke :) hope this helps :)
