I would say her arms are pulling a little too far back. Her elbows shouldn't pass the side of her body. The most common mistake I see in breaststroke as a coach is pulling back too far and coming up too high in the water, which forces the hips down and creates drag. Just an FYI to anyone learning breaststroke!
Thank you, It helped me a lot while learning Breaststroke as well as other strokes.I had seen all videos of swimming which are on your channel.Your explanation and way of teaching is awesome.
I have never been a good swimmer nor very interested in it but i am into fitness and have always understood the benefits of it so i have started swimming i have done 2 sessions and tried front crawl (witch on my second attempt was better because i sorted out my breathing) and attempted breast stroke and done it COMPLETELY WRONG but i am really determined to learn it so thank you very much this video was very informative and i must say i am really enjoying swimming it's great and hopefully i will get better lol.
no one is probably reading this, but quick tip; your shoulders should not be coming this far back, as if they exit the water you will be disqualified. Also don't come so far out the water as it can slow you down, hope this helps! X
It's fast and easy for me. I'm a good distance swimmer with breaststroke but freestyle wipes me out and slows me down. I think if you have smaller lung capacity this is easier because you can get better fuller breathing. :P
Breaststroke is the only one I have mastered as of yet. Want to try free style but for some reason can not move my legs efficiently. This comes naturally to me but not the freestyle.
Believe me I've swum breaststroke for 20 years and am still in a mess with freestyle(frong crawl). That's why I recently read alot videos here trying to figure out the problem. This OP's channel and GoSwim's are my most favorate. I've also learned that if one masters breaststroke before learning freestyle, the longer the gap the harder for the latter, especially to some people like me, with deep instinction of breaststroke which turns out to be a disaster for freestyle :(
pull and breathe, extend arms, kick and glide... is it necessary for the body to rise out of the water like that? it looks like a tremendous waste of energy and momentum...
Yeah my 50 breast kick is faster than my 50 free kick. But Breastroke just came naturally to me. It is a difficult stroke but i'm so used to it that I sometimes just do it without thinking!
that breaststroke isn't that good, for one thing , her arms aren't tucked into her chest, she needs to make sure her elbows don't go past her shoulders, this will then allow more acceleration into the stroke :) hope this helps :)
When first begin learning breaststroke I thought it was impossible for me, but after my elementary level I knew this is the best swimming style & technique ever. The most difficult part for me is timing of breathing, I'm performing this improperly causing me to be out of breath for swimming just a short distance. Please advise, cheers.
Tak Lillerud Thanks for responding. But really? How can you go further with that much upper body elevation? As I do, with barely a peek above the water, I sink right down afterwards, creating so much drag I come to a stand-still.
+Tze-wei Lim It is like jumping really... You go further forward like that but it is just one of many factors only. Hyper streamline body position reduces the drag, delay the kick a bit.. Wait until your arms fully extended then kick also maximizes the glide (I still have to fight my instinct all the time not to kick too early) . Search 'breaststroke separation drill' you will get a better picture.
Tak Lillerud I see. Thank you! Delaying the kick seems like good advice I will try. But this model in the video doesn't look like she is going forwards much with all that elevation.
Ive been swimming for many years.. before the "new" breaststroke Kick, .. where the rotation of the knees has been introduced.. I hurt my knees just from watching this video.. - that rotation does cause knee problems.. ( in some cases ) the knee arnt build for that rotation and force applied to it. I still do "old style" - frog knee kick.. ;)

Ty... thats mistake I was doing all the time

The best Breaststroke video for someone to learn on every aspect of the stroke, Good job !!
Interesting! First time I learn about this stroke.
Probably the most exhausting way to swim. 😱
No lol...
Laura Garcia Not really. I learned it before Crawl and love it
When you're a beginner yes
Have you tried fly?
no butterfly is hortible

Emily North good tip
because your body to much deep in the water that makes your pull combined upper body lift resist by water
Thanks, I find this video very helpful. Looking at the different components of the stroke help me to understand.

This is an EXCELLENT explanation of powerful breaststroke!
Excellent. I've watched it many times and will continue to watch it. Thank you for posting it.
I just suck at breaststroke, lol.
what about now
maybe breast size too large?
Moose Olly No, it's usually the kick.
Moose Olly that really doesn't affect it much..
Kel S I can't also do it I feel ur pain😧😧
Damn, this is such a good thorough video!
Golden!
the kick part is fascinating
Instruction clear and good video to reference
This is the best video on this topic

Wow so much information. I’m going to have to watch this 100 times 😊
Ruben RodriguezThat is actually pretty much more helpful than some other videos I've seen before. Very descriptive.
Thanks a bunch, this is what I'm looking for :) Very detailed instructions and advice!
thanks you made it look so easy
Thanks for posting this video. It helped me improved my breaststroke.
pull and breathe, extend arms, kick and glide... is it necessary for the body to rise out of the water like that? it looks like a tremendous waste of energy and momentum...
it mush easier to dolphin kick but it was outlawed around 1972 ! the whip kick or old frog kick beat the hell out of your knees
My 50 br at a 50m pool was 38 and when converted, it's a 33 I'm 13
3:17 thank me later...

I learn how to swim by this video after I watched and went to the swimming lesson .many thanks 👌👌👌👌👍
Many Thanks for this video. Just what I've been searching for. Thank You!!
Very good, clear !!
Yeah my 50 breast kick is faster than my 50 free kick. But Breastroke just came naturally to me. It is a difficult stroke but i'm so used to it that I sometimes just do it without thinking!
The best breaststroke video i have ever seen
Rhythm matters!
do the head and shoulders have to be so much up out of the water?
AmyMirandaMakeup Yes, it creates more momentum coming back in the water to glide, it has made me much faster.
Perfect demonstration
at 2:46 ,i think her arms are too far backwards, elbows not stable enough to catch water, the elbows act as an pivot point to support the body
awesome instruction. Very well explained.
The best i have ever seen
Thanks a lot.
Great voiceover work!
What is the proper angle formed between the two legs when they are kicking out?
about 45°
Congratulations on having provided such a clear, accurate explanation. The person who wrote the text deserves a lot of credit.
The user didn't make the video, the Red Cross did. That's why it's seems good. It's because it was professionally filmed.
Awesome! Thats my goal as well! how old are you? You are so going to make it!
Very Good !
very good video thanks!!!!! :)
its all in your arms...but be carefull not to pull your head 2 much...your head has to be bowed down all the time
i feel like i'm watching animal planet
Most comprehensive video, thank you so mich..👌👍👍💙
I want her - she's well fit 😍😍😍
how many srokes per 25 m is good?
that breaststroke isn't that good, for one thing , her arms aren't tucked into her chest, she needs to make sure her elbows don't go past her shoulders, this will then allow more acceleration into the stroke :) hope this helps :)
i am comfortable with this stroke
I like the way it was broken down and explained. Hopefully, will help w/the finer points I need to work on.
thanks for posting....

It's nice
Breaststroke... It's not what I think it is...
i like the breaststroke, but there's always that part where you push forward against the water, slowing you down and creating drag...
breast stroke get it Breast---stroke ahahah
AHAHAHAHAHA (sarcasm)

Good explanation but there’s something wrong with the breaststroke
Perfect!

Why does she emerge so much from the water, so highly?
+Tze-wei Lim that way we leap forward further, competitive swimmers do that. I dont haha
Tak Lillerud Thanks for responding. But really? How can you go further with that much upper body elevation? As I do, with barely a peek above the water, I sink right down afterwards, creating so much drag I come to a stand-still.

GREAT! Just what I needed! thanks!!!
is breaststroke your best stroke?
best instruction ive seen so far. thanks for posting
looks a little jerky here.. the way she juts out of the water.
She's doing a very jerky stroke.
very informative 7 minutes
so exhausting in a 50 swim
try a 100
Try 200 XD it's terrible
its not that bad
Bonito
Very nice
perv
thank you so much!
it's Breathstroke
Wait, what about the S shape?
Her elbows are going too far back
Too over descriptive but good
she is amazing her hips stay so high even though she gets so high off the water. fantastic
cool i swim breastsroke in 39.79 but im training to go to the olympics for breaststroke :)
I am not an expert but I think the lady is coming too high above water which is a waste of energy
M.F.JJ.... 。。55DD。。。
Holy moly this was ages ago!
wish it had a front view
me too
Awesome....!!
Perfect
