      Spelczech, bro: I use it every day. But let's really distill this down. The flowmaster is not marketed for its cfm capabilities, but its tone. I translate that into... people wish they had a v-8, but they bought a flowmaster instead. Or... they do have a v-8, and would like to pretend it's a 13:1 track car with a great big cam. When they put a tip on their system to boot, I dub that a 'fartophone' - I can hear their fakery coming a mile away.
      One of the peculiar things about this business is even for the few companies that will flow test their mufflers, flow differs quite a bit between offerings with same pipe size. I have a reasonably built 355 with dual exhaust, and for velocity reasons I won't put in 3" pipes [I stopped at 2.5"] but: in the majority of manufacturer offerings a 3" muffler is what works if I want to stay away from track type noise and get every last bit of power near redline. In my case, I found dynomax's 17748 [a 2.5"] worked for my application and stayed near a loss free system for probably 95% of rpm range - but I could get everything with the 17797 [a 2.75"]. It will rev to 6500 either way without complaint, and doesn't say "bust me" to any cop car with a window cracked. I like that.

      Especially sounds better on small displacement engines, but all engines sound better with Magnaflow compared to Flowmaster. Performance gains naturally are better with the straight-through Magnaflow, and that's the real reason to get one!

    I have a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow on my 2020 4Runner and it is perfect sounding. Nice back ground rumble at idle, nice mechanical burble when I accelerate, np drobe on the highway. This is the 2nd vehicle I've put a Flowmaster on.
    The first was an '09 Toyota Matrix with the 2.4L. Did a full custom 2.5" exhaust with an 80-series. She was loud!

    Pretty damn happy with my 18" Magnaflow + resonator deletes on 2019 Silverado. Beautiful low growl cold start and accel tones, not obnoxiously loud, very little idle speed drone. Paired with KN cold air intake its butter. No tin can noise like with Flowmaster. I Just want the same tone but a tiny bit louder. Considering Magnapack glasspack, or Cherry Bomb glasspack.

      I've got the same sized (5.3l) engine in my Envoy. I live in a state where they'd never check for cats, so had them 'fixed.' One of them was partially clogged, so getting them replaced with pipes was justified 😉. It's a cheap (can even MAKE you a few $hundred) and easy way to free up a few more horses, nearly 1mpg, and add more volume to your Magnaflow. I believe your exhaust is nearly identical to mine, and the cat-ectomy would definitely up the rowdiness factor of your 5.3 a bit, and gain you at least as much horses as your magnaflow. Mine didn't get a check engine light, yours may but can easily be remedied with $10 O2sensor extenders (or a tune). That would be your best bang for buck option, as it would be cheaper then switching muffler, and would free up more back-pressure, whereas you can't improve the backpressure by replacing Magnaflow with an inferior brand.

      Magnaflow DOES make more power, proven on dynos, especially on forced-induction vehicles. Performance Deisel mufflers are always straight-through designs like Magnaflow, Borla, etc. Magnaflow is basically a Borla with slightly less noise and more budget-conscious. Performance sportbike exhausts all use the same design too. Straight through design, essentially makes them resonators instead of mufflers, they don't restrict flow at all. They actually help scavenge the exhaust better than if there was no muffler on the vehicle.

On 04 Dodge Ram 1500, with the Hemi it came with a Magnaflow muffler. It didn't last long. It got a super 40, then a 44, but I wanted more aggressive. So, a Super 10 was the answer. • @jeladsnikpoh1289
    @jeladsnikpoh1289 Год назад +4

    I've used both brands on many different vehicles (mostly GM V8s). I'm team Magnaflow! My #1 reason for 'performance' mufflers/exhaust is PERFORMANCE (not sound)- minimal restriction, maximum horsies, potential MPG. Magnaflow is straight-through and dynos prove their superior performance over baffled type like Flowmaster, Flowpro, etc.- especially in forced-induction engines where maximum flow is vital. My #2 reason for performance muffler is sound quality. Magnaflow (and similar designs such as Borla and ALL sportbike performance exhausts) delivers a smooth, deep tone resembling a more expensive machine (more refined, deeper, usually quieter) without the hollowed out banging on a metal trash can sound that a hollow, baffled Flowmaster (or FM copycat) usually offers. There are exceptions, both brands offer multiple products (I had a quiet and refined Flowmaster 70series on a Limousine in service), and I've had rowdy (typically smaller) Magnaflows, but the opposite is usually true. I currently have a GMC Envoy XL with a 5.3 V8 (LS-327 BABY!) with several performance goodies including cat-ectomy. Without the kitties to smoothen and quiet the sound (and popping) it is imperative I have a smooth refined sound like Magnaflow! But "Mo powaa babeh" is the main reason.

    Hey guys, great video. Question: I have a 2005 Pathfinder that I have had for 16 years, it is in great shape and I've done some work on it to make it stand out. I am getting my entire exhaust system redone and was looking to get a muffler that is a little bit meatier than the original, something that is not going to turn heads or be too loud with the windows open. I'm thinking a Magnaflow but not sure which one to look at. Any suggestions?

    I had Flowmaster American Thunder in my 98 Ram 1500 with the 5.2. It rumbled. Flowmaster didn't make a cat for it, that was where Magnaflow came in. To top it off, Holley branded ceramic headers.

    I just had a magna flow installed on my grand cherokee with the 5.7hemi. question I have is do all Magna flow mufflers have the MF label built on them? I dont think mine does. Ive looked all over the muffler but it doesnt say magna flow anywhere. The body and everything looks just like the one on this video but without the MF displayed on it. It sounds amazing but I have to wonder if I got ripped off or do some magnaflows not say anything on them? It has the same welds around it as magna flows do. So I don't know what to think. Any answers would be great.

    If you want to sound like you gained power from a muffler go with flowmaster. If you want to maybe gain a few horses go with magnaflow. Either way exhaust doesn't really add much besides noise, and you lose way more with baffles over straight through.

      Aha someone else pointed it out too. For power, brand doesnt matter... the least restriction the more hps! If u are going to change the muffler, that os what I would care about. Not the sound. U may even get a little bump in mpgs w offset, straight through, anything without baffles

    • @jeladsnikpoh1289
      @jeladsnikpoh1289 Год назад

      The data is there, multiple unbiased RUclips videos of dyno pulls show that magnaflow consistently makes more power at midrange, even more at top end (where exhaust flow is most vital). One particular run showed tiny bit more low-end torque on Flowmaster, but only under 2000rpms. That could account for that particular vehicle not being tuned for the extra flow of Magnaflow (slightly lean). The whole point of 'performance' muffler is increased flow, and magnaflow has no restriction, that should tell you before you see the dyno proof! Flowmaster (with baffles) are not recommended for diesel or other forced-induction applications (even by Flowmaster), as they are deemed too restrictive. Flowmaster then came up with a 'straight-through' version, like Magnaflow, Borla, Sportbike performance exhaust, even glasspacks like Cherrybombs, etc., so they can compete in diesel/forced induction arena.

    I ran flowmaster 40s for 20 years and switched to magnaflows because the flowmaster drone gets old after a while, especially since both my Chevys are catless with true duals. After the magnaflows break in, they will get a little louder and sound pretty good without the drone. I tow alot and the old school flowmaster 40s give me a headache after towing for a few hours, BUT...if you still have cats, the drone from the flowmasters won't be that bad.

    looking at magnaflows, I don't want db, I just want a little more rumble. so many vids on here are of really modified vehicles that are aiming for loudness. I'd like to know what these sound like on a stock LT1/ 1995 Buick Roadmaster Estate but it's difficult to find any examples. hopefully keeping the resonators on will help prevent drone at speed and they don't get too loud over time

    • @jeladsnikpoh1289
      @jeladsnikpoh1289 Год назад

      I've owned multiple LT1 cars, including the beloved Roadmonster! Yes, you DO want Magnaflows! (it's a dual exhaust, so you'll need 2) If you keep the cats and resonators on, it'll be very smooth and refined with 'proper' V8 depth, but quiet. The longer the magnaflow, the quieter it is, but these cars tend to be quiet by design, so keep that in mind. Magnaflows and resonators basically work the same way, so having 4 will give you quietness (canceling out higher frequencies and raspiness) without impeding exhaust flow much. I'm getting the Magnaflow on my Envoy XL with the 5.3 LS V8 tomorrow, there are no cats or resonators to muffle sound, so mine should be a bit rowdy at full-boogie. It'll be smooth, deep, and refined when driven conservatively, as it's Magnaflow afterall.
