The song actually came out in 2000, and they made a movie based on the song two years later. It's my favorite Christmas movie. If you haven't watched it yet, I'd definitely recommend it!
I can't watch it. My mom and I fell in love with this song and I came home from work one night and she was full on bawling at this movie. She's been gone over 10 years now and I will always remember that. She was my whole world and I know I was hers as well.
This song always brings tears to my eyes I lost my sister many years ago and Christmas just isn't the same without her and I always think of her when i listen to this song.
Just to let you know that you are not the only one that cry’s with this song every time I hear this song & I cry because I don’t know my MOM because she passed away 11/28/2001
oh noooo oh no your not readyyyy sirrr dont just..well..there he goes..there i go..there we all go just fillin bucketts full of saltwater in the desert
Yes this song was based on a movie called the Christmas shoes which later had like I think 2-3 sequels which revolved around the boy, and the man who found the shoes and helped the boy pay for them. The first movie had 2 stories, the main focus was the boy and his relationship with his mother, and on the opposite side of the story revolves around a business man who has a strained relationship with his family, in the end both stories come together in the climax as the two stories are actually connected, I don’t want to give up too much of the film but I can tell you that it’s a beautiful, tearful movie it’s one of my favorites
My girlfriend made me listen to this a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't make it through the first verse before shutting it off. She's a Vietnam war baby whose mother rejected her, and tried to sell her off to another family before she was saved by an elderly woman who bought her. She figured that if her mother didn't love her maybe her father would, so she made her way to the United States to look for him. After 33 years she found her family here, but her father had died. They love her! She first heard this song when her ex had taken her children away to Mexico. She was alone on Christmas Day, and was drinking and crying when this song came on the radio.
Sorry for being 6 months late, but we were practicing this song for a Christmas concert at my day service, and I cried because it kept mentioning the word Mama, my mother's been dead for two years, and I still get anxious about it every year.
My history teacher played this song and said if this don’t bring a tear to your eyes either you didn’t pay attention or you don’t a heart I listen to this song and started crying then he gave me a hug after this song was over when I got home I gave my mom the biggest hug ever
Thank you for reacting to this bittersweet song. You should give "Billy's Christmas Wish" by Red Sovine a go. May you and yours have a very blessed merry Christmas 🎄!
Why this is one of my favorite Christmas songs/movies ... I lost my mom to heart disease (among other health problems when she was only 64 years old) exactly 2 weeks before my 40th birthday (my mom died 6/12/2011 & I turned 40 on 6/26/2011). Every Christmas Eve, I watch the movie "The Christmas Shoes" before I take a pair of shoes every Christmas Day to her grave for her to wear in Heaven. I love both the song & the movie but it wrecks me every year. It still feels like yesterday that I lost her. PS - the only "Christmas decoration" I have hung up every year since I lost my mom is her favorite QVC sweatshirt (and was the sweatshirt she wore the last time she was able to drive before she died). I used to think it was the tackiest thing I have ever saw & now it's my most precious piece of clothing I own.
I just lost my grandmother during this holiday season. I was driving when I heard the news and this song just happened to come on. I had to pull off the road crying so hard.
This song never fails to get me to tear up. This song is from the film of the same name The Christmas Shoes starring Rob Lowe, Kimberly Williams and Dorian Harewood.
If you Think The Chistmas Shoes which is a movie done after the song (I Think). You Should NOT hear "My Name is Christmas Carol By Skip Ewing, That will make you cry!😢😢

It's a movie the Christmas shoes....it's such a sad movie. I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure it's apart of three movies.
There is a song about a boy who is trying to get some roses for his mother grave
