I saw Shaham in Bologne in 2010. After playing Bach for about 2 hours, he run on the hall of the theater to thank every one was at the concert, to sign every cd was sold, and to answer to EVERYONE that had something to ask. He must be a wonderful person
Gil Shaham is playing the 1699 "Countess Polignac" Stradivari Violin. It is one of the most esteemed violins. With his skill and the sound that the violin makes, this piece is beautiful.
Yes, this gentleman is absolutely the WORLD'S FINEST VIOLINIST---bar none! Note the perfect pitch, the perfect timing, and the subtle fingering---enough to overwhelm the senses of any wild beast. Softly...he slides from the highest to the lowest notes, before taking off in an sincere Gypsy plea to listen to a Gypsy heart.
This is perhaps the cleanest version of Zigeunerweisen I've ever heard. Obviously with interpretations of gypsy inspired music, the tonality may not be as important as the emotion. But perhaps, this is where the balance can be beautifully struck between emotion and pure tonality.
This is unbelievable! Shaham's intensity is incredible, to the point where I can see sweat dripping off his violin. Great intonation throughout, as well!
The perfection in those high notes on the E string is amazing to me. It's not easy to get clear notes as you get closer to the bridge, and the tolerances for sounding in tune get crazy small that far up the string.
This sounds like one of the hardest musical pieces to play on the violin. Gil Shaham plays masterfully! Much appreciated and enjoyed! Thank you for sharing this with us! 🅱
The beauty of this piece is that it sounds incredibly difficult, but when you start to learn to play it, it kinda just clicks together. But it never sounds just right, and it turns out that this piece really is hard as hell to play. Gotta say though, I've heard this piece many times, and I'm not a huge fan of Shaham. Just not quite as precise as it needs to be. He also takes some strange liberties that aren't my preference. Also, his left-hand pizz' are pretty crap. I personally like Perlman's rendition the best, excluding (of course) Sarasate himself. If you like difficult music, try Paganini Caprices. They are tricky pieces by themselves, but there are 24 of them, and they are meant to be played one after another. And the lack of an accompanist makes them some of the hardest pieces to play.
Somptueux !
I have to say that I'm partial to most faster paced pieces, and at 6:14 is my favorite part of this piece. I am in awe at the skill that Gil Shaham has for this particular section of the song, most violinists I have heard play this song keep this section slower than it is meant to be. Exceptional is not grand enough a term for his skill and awesomeness.
Your violin teacher's favorite violinist. No one else can play so accurately so quickly, with such ease. It's almost as if he has an infinite amount of bow to work with.
When he plays, you don't just hear the sound, you feel it as if the violin were alive. To me, thats what feels like true ability or talent. To be able to make the violin sing. ^_^ makes me happy.
UN ARTISTA CABAL. ESE SONIDO ES PRODUCTO DE UNA ENTENDIDA MARAVILLOSA ESCUELA DEL ARCO Y MANO IZQUIERDA, DE UNA MENTE BRILLANTE, PERO OJO.. !! SE NACE CON ESA INQUIETUD DE SACAR ESO. EL PATHOS SAGRADO. BRAVO GIL SHAHAM
Absolutely masterful. I have to say that Gil Shaham is one of my favorite violinist to watch because of his composure, incredible technical discipline and cleanliness, and solid musicianship. I don't think many people fully appreciate how important composure is for a violinist and if I see another unprofessional violinist "dancing" while playing, I am going to throw up. I am less impressed with his ability to emote but he is such a fine musician I enjoy it all the same.
Words can't describe the emotions he evokes. Superb my dear maestro, superb. Thank you so much. You can see his sweat pouring onto the violin. Tells you of the intensity that he is under to create such beautiful music.
Merveilleux.

my favorite part is that you can see when he impressed himself. he smiles subtly to himself. cute, gil. REAL CUTE.
divine smile!

I Hate the Party agreee totally with u
Perhaps you never heard of Mario Hossen
Well said Sir!
I love Gil's version of this. NO ONE plays a slide at the end except him.
So nice to see this with just the piano!
I love this piece and I love Gil! You can see the joy in his eyes when he plays :)
MAI ASCOLTATO NIENTE DI SIMILE. LA TECNICA . IL CUORE , L'EMOZIONE SONO INARRIVABILI . GRANDIOSO SHAHAM.

***** The key is the "cleanest", although Perlman's version is the most flashy and skillful of all time.
+Antong Chen Have you heard of Kogan?
Douglas Tan Check out Augustin Hadelichs interpretation.
If you are a fan of Gil's rendition, definitely have a listen to Michael Rabin's recording.

I love this version also, give it a listen?
Outstanding. Bravo. Sarasate himself is cheering.
This is unbelievable! Shaham's intensity is incredible, to the point where I can see sweat dripping off his violin. Great intonation throughout, as well!
Wunderbar - wonderful !! Thank you for sharing this video ! BRAVO !

The clarity is amazing.
what an amazing accompanist....
Best one I've heard so far.
+SophiaVonHelgastein It is hard to argue against Itzhak Perlman perfomance
SophiaVonHelgastein incontestly

Listen Scherzo Tarantelle (wieniawski)

How is this so clean and smooth??!! So seamless and clear. It’s even better than auto tune
he makes it look so effortless...amazing....more like dayum...
Extraordinaire !

This is the best I've ever heard of this piece. So farrrrrrr... out standing
Beautiful!!!
iron's fingers! Fantastic bow! And much much music. Wonderful Gil!!!!!!
I love his little slip at 6:57 but when it's repeated he puts a little more emphasis on as to say "got it that time" haha

So beautiful,thanks !!
he's got to be from another planet, my gosh...
Amazing he is super great
Que era lindo a esa edad , tengo sus discos de esa época. Después se puso a dieta y quedó súper delgado .
When he plays, you don't just hear the sound, you feel it as if the violin were alive. To me, thats what feels like true ability or talent. To be able to make the violin sing. ^_^ makes me happy.
如水般流畅、动人,技术太棒了!
