- In this video I show you how I animated the characters in my animated film Sensations. By shooting live action references I were able to capture the motion and translate that into my animated characters.

You're doing a great job documenting all these creative and technical process... thanks a lot
Happy you like it! :)

Which app he is use .?? Plz anyone tell??

He's using photoshop for the frame by frame. You could also do this method and use Krita. Krita is free and a great software that allows you to edit photos, create fantastic art and animate. What I've seen people do and I did a practice test one at one time, is you can take a video footage, change the frame rate in whatever video editing software you use, export the video footage as png files, (this would create the individual image to animate on top of) and import them into Krita or whatever drawing program you use, then create a layer on top an animate. If you do this on a tablet, using rough animator or flipaclip is a good program, and flipaclip with the full version automatically will convert any imported video footage you import into it. I hope this helps :D
I believe the correct moviemaking term is Rotoscope animation.
Rotoscoping is one of my favorite methods. Truly perfects animation, makes u think about natural movements in more creative ways. So many little details could be missed and animation can come out a little plain w/o it
Yes it is..
Too easy way rotoscoping. Its simply retrace.
Rotoscoping is good for realistic animation. However, if you are going for a exaggerated, cartoony look, it's not always the best solution. But for the most part I do think references are an amazing tool for great animation!
@@truthovertribulations there are realistic animator your argument is invalid
This is called rotoscoping, it is really an old technique. One that was used to avoid the Disney approach to animation drawing frame by frame on 1s, 2s, 4s, etc. I just started back re-learning animation I found drawing the animation from scratch frame by frame will help my speed since I do comics as well.
Congrats on finishing the film I know it is hard it is to do animation regardless of the approach you take.
You dont avoid drawing any frames with this. I still have to draw them, but I let the footage guide it. Which makes it easier for sure.
Thanks
I'd say it's called rotoscoping "done well"! Many people doing this end up with inconsistencies or a weird look, while his rotoscoping ends up looking like anime!
what software in this video ?
Can someone please mention what device is he using? Is this iPad? or folded screen of laptop?
@@KBH4 He used Lenovo laptop with pen
I have just watched a few videos from you and I must say that I love the calm and relaxed way you just talk about your process without focusing down too deep on specific tools or techniques. Even though I'm not personally working on 2d animation I find the way you go through your concepts very interesting and helpful. Big ups my friend!
Oh awesome! My main goal has been to share the overall workflow rather than specifics so thats great to hear!
The varying framrate (here) creates a slow-motion effect, and actually enhances "feeling". It was for the better I think.
I guess, if 5 to 10 animators will work together, they can make a nice movie together. People are creative.
I loved it when you used the smoothed out technique, especially when your trying to make someone feel something. In this case the rain and it made the rain feel so smooth. Even tho you aren't there!
Man! Your channel seems to be the most helpful and wonderful in terms of learning animation and filmmaking! So great of a content and well, the content creator itself! Learning a lot from your channel! These behind the scenes are what I was looking for! You're an inspiration sir
looks beautiful!! Even the fluctuating frame rate adds some character to it in some ways.

This is the best free software Ive seen. Respect.
You're up and coming man, great work!
Thanks for sharing, the low frame rate actually makes it look more dreamy and lends better to the animation experience than the high gloss high rate that we see these days.
This can cure my depression. If i start to learn drawing animation.
I just love the style of art with the black outlines and minimalistic textures
Tip :
When you select the quick selection tool to color what you selected, check the "simple all layers" box (Under Type / select / Filter) that are at the top of the PS window).

That's a Hell lot of hardwark and dedication
I was on another video before this one, you had 10k I subscribed and then I jump to this video 11k. Congratz man! Well deserved. I am in love with the way you incorporate both the technical and theory aspects of your work when describing your projects. Looking forward to the future of this channel!
Big thanks! Haha yea its been crazy how it grows fast!
I am not an animator, I am 3D archviz artist. But your videos bring me a lot of new knowledge and passion. Thank you very much! 👍
Thanks!
All of your videos are such high quality, great to be here before you blow up
You have no idea how much you helped me with this idea of yours, I have been creating animations for clients using cartoon animator 4 but I finally got a chance to create a music video and I wanted to try out this frame by frame drawing and you literally helped me earn good money and experience. Thank you so much man!
Can i see the video? I am about to try my hand at a music video for my band
@@hardymaritz1222 Hello Henk, I had to cancel the order as my client was just not getting the idea that traditional animation takes a lot of time. But I have created a few small animations. Let me know if you need any help.
the tutorial was super helpful and taught me a lot about using references in 2D Animation
Great to hear that!
I wanted to try out animation, but it seemed to difficult and now im here watching your video for a long time and are motivated to try animation with my friend as an anime character. Thanks a lot. It was a huge help
Damir 2Go awesome you got this! I too am getting back into it too
The frame rate would take forever. Looks amazing, almost the same thing as 'Loving Vincent'.
I remembered that movie while watching this video
This technique is quite unique, not many artist use it. A clear example of another good use is the game Hotel Dusk
This is soo goood :))
I just watched 'Apollo 10 and Half: A Space Age Childhood' a few days back and I was reading about the animation technique used in that movie because it felt very different and realistic. I found out that this exact same technique (rotoscoping) was used in that movie and now this video was there in my recommendation. Fantastic video Olof! I cannot thank you enough for showing us your process in a comprehensible way. Thank you so much!
"Have your patience level on full battery" hahaha... your patience to animate this alone is very admirable! keep it up
you are an inspiration to me man. Thank for posting your videos.
Bro.. I am from India... Love your work so much man... I don't know anything about editing or animation drawing whatever it's called , I am a musician.. but your style is Soo good man.. your work touches many different culture and crosses boundaries.. wanted to say that😍😍😍
I wanna ask.. if you would be willing to do a custom music video . Not big budgeted (I am independent) but very aspirational...
Bro i am also from india rajasthan, jaipur and i am 12 year old
That was awesome I loved how it turned out
I really like watching your video. I am a beginner and want to learn more. please, make a tutorial step by step 😁😊
What are you use application to make animation sir?
Moral of the story: You need to film a movie to create a nice animation.
It's called reference, they use reference when animating something so it looks organic
😂
Thanks for the tips! love your work you inspire me a lot.
You might wanna look up Blender's Grease Pencil functionality

It's just impossible to read comments under animation videos without seeing someone is mentioning blender XD
@@Phoneix00 man don't be triggered.... Dont use blender if you dislike it..
@@mickeysimon3789 True but in this specific case it's actually a good recommendation. First let me say I'm a 3d max guy so this is just my unbiased opinion :) Watching his videos he seems to jump between photoshop for 2d animation and painting, cinema 4d for 3d elements, and After Fx for tweaking 2d anims, color grading and post fx. Blender does seem uniquely suited for everything in his workflow without having to jump into any other program. Now with that being said screw Blender use Max instead :p
I respect anyone that uses rotoscoping techniques. A scanner darkly is a film that comes to mind. Anyway, subbed and keep up the good work
so happy to have found you channel! I'm sure your older video are going to be an essential learning resource to me.
On the topic of rotoscoping, have you tried Ebsynth? It's a new (and free) technology, you can make animations in this style by only drawing a few key frames. It does the in betweening for you (provided you have the live action footage) and the results are amazing
U r geeting so happy like ur sis got her fist drill of hymen brkn ritual. U seem from som third world country so just enjoy and shut the fuck up.
@@Phoneix00 lol wtf, you're some failed human experiment or something?
What an amazing job! All the creativity and problem solving is refreshing and encouraging. Thank you.
Great video. I know a couple of programs autofil the colours for you because the brush tool is making vectors instead of just rasters, but I'm still learning that. Blender is doing auto shading too with highlights. Can't wait for the day ai automates most of these tasks.
I loved the idea as well as bg of every scene minimal yet beautiful
Can you make a tutorial on how you did this things possible? I really wanted to learn it on how you made this animation things. Thanks
Me too.... i love to but i dont know how to start how to do .. what tools need system etc.. if any one please share with me thanks..
I agree tutorial on how to do this with programs and equipment used
I like this style of animation, _Dreamy_ yet *lifelike* . Would like to see the full series.
This is amazing! It feels rotoscoped but, unlike a lot of animated movies with the same approach, your work feels hand drawn and deliberate at the same time! I've never seen that aproach to animated rotoscoping since Superman
What brush did you use for lineart?
It's really interesting to know how much hard works goes to make a film perfect. Thanks a lot 😍
Thankyou, awesome tutorial 🙌 more please
This is awsome man Ive been practising this style using flipaclip on my phone almost 2 years, can't wait till I get to this level
Bro you are f♥️♥️ing Underrated. I love your work.

AHH yes, the husband, girlfriend, and her boyfriend.
I love this so much! Thank you!
I like the glow effect you used for the background lights of the building, as well as how you made a rim light on the characters. Do you have a lighting tutorial?
Found this channel on my recommended today, gotta thank youtube for this one. Great job on your work, I will continue to follow your stuff!
I have a question regarding your intro Paint Brush transition, was that manually created with Photoshop or was it animated in After Effects?
Thanks! Happy you like it :)
It was done in both. I made the brush wipes in Photoshop. But then put the assets together in AE using my brush sequence as a mask.
Next time use EbSynth. You only have to draw few frame and it will do the rest.
Dropping the fps even makes it cooler you are amazing...it's like Spiderman into the Spiderverse...
I learned so much from this, I'm curious where I can see the final product!
Awesome! On my RUclips channel :) the film is called Sensations

How long it took you to finish rotoscoped everything ?
Is there a way to animate via “pose to pose” rather than frame by frame with Photoshop / AnimDessi2?
After effects does it.
@@batcoolstudios4236 I'm looking for a way to draw keyframes, and then draw the in-between frames. After Effects generates the in-between movement, but doesn't replicate the hand drawn attributes I'm after. Thanks anyway for the reply.
