I feel like it is very culturally pushed on us that we should be partying and happy during these times, no matter what. and yes, mental illness is part of this (I'll speak for myself on this one)...my mental health crisis (the first one?) was when I was in my early 20's as well. also Eugene Thacker's Horror of Philosophy series is amazing. It took me forever to get through them because of all the references (music, art, literature)..so dense, so cool. On that note, The Conspiracy Against the Human Race (Ligotti) changed my life a little...warning on reading that book...put me in a year long depression haha. Lastly, it sounds like us Pluto in Scorpio people have had a similar run....you've explained how myself and many of my friends of similar age have felt and that experience of trying to have fun but it just seems to push into dark territory...
