I’ve followed you on the forums for years and I truly appreciate your informative videos. I’ve been shooting thumb for years and you still keep me sharp! Thank you for your knowledge.
Hey I wanted to thank you. This video made the light bulb go off in my head. After watching a bunch of videos and reading a ton I was unsure how I wanted to fire my thumb release. Just slowly increasing pressure on my thumb and middle finger towards the center of my palm worked a miracle for me. I shot the best I ever have at 60yds today. I was getting a surprise release Everytime and the arrow was hitting it's Mark. When I was trying to slowly increase pressure by pulling back I was getting bad anxiety when the shot wasn't going off when I thought it should. I couldn't imagine trying to shoot an animal like that. But this seemed to just work perfect for me. A few more weeks and I'll be ready to hunt with a thumb release for the first time this year. Thank you.
The last one toy mentioned with the tension... when I started I found it felt like the most repeatable smoothest follow through and mostaccurate... for me. And the first time I did it I only slightly pulled my thumb at all really I pulled my whole hand through more like you were saying.. and It clicked like learning to ride a bike. I just suddenly got it and had a huge increase in my accuracy as i worked to repeat and repeat and repeat the action.
The Carter releases are quality releases. The Chocolate will not have much adjustability compared to other releases on the market though. If it's a newer version it'll have an adjustable trigger but it might not be micro adjustable for tension. I'd look at some of the Truball releases personally. They can adjust to the shape of the hand with their adjustable finger pieces and their triggers will micro adjust in fitment and tension.
7:40 ... My anchor is like that .. My elbow will not go any higher. Various shoulder injuries over the years before I discovered archery have left me with shoulder impingement and a lack of flexibility. Its not ideal but... Gotta work with what Ive got
Hey Robert,I have been watching your videos for a couple of years and I have learned a lot from your instruction. Lately though, I have been have an issue of my shot not breaking with my thumb release. I start to run out of breath and I have to let down. If I move closer to the target my shot breaks easier. I'm I dealing with some sort of target panic? What can I do to get my shot to go off easier?
Sounds like you're becoming timid on the trigger pre load before you shoot. It could be that the trigger is set too light and you're afraid to put the thumb on there when wanting to aim harder at distance.
If it's a hinge release not at all because the thumb peg ads loads of leverage. With a thumb button I think you'd feel discomfort pulling 70 pounds very many times.
Hey I have a question that if you could answer could really be helpful... I Get nervous about where to put my thumb while drawing... winding up one of these things is serious power so I'm looking for a technique to keep my thumb somewhere out of the way safe then move to loose when ready. Suggestions? Ive heard wrap thumb around middle finger through draw?

Thank you that was very informative on basic details. I think we can all get bogged down with other things we forget the finer details.

I think you are right. I will work on it. Thank you for your help.
with two fingers like that, do you find that gives you a limit on how heavy a bow you'd pull with it?
