  • Sheldon Heatherington (of Pensacola, Florida) takes us on a walk-around of the Rotax-powered STOL CH 750 light sport utility kit aircraft that he flies. Heatherington plans to compete in the NationalSTOL series this year with his "Red Bird" Zenith.
Sheldon is also an excellent aviation photographer. Check out his photos on his Facebook page: / sheldon.heatherington

Thanks Zenith! For those wondering about my prop comment, it’s just to make it easier. With the Sensenich, all I need to re-pitch is a screwdriver, and with the current prop, I need a screwdriver, I have to use a couple other tools, and I have to level the aircraft at the spinner backplate. The Sensenich only needs the screwdriver,no leveling, and it pitches to detents, each with a pre-determined pitch value.

Nice video, sharp plane - but, isn't the 912 a tad weak for the extra weight of the CH750 (over the 701) and for competition?

Congrats. Everything looks ok. The painting doesnt fit with name red bird, its could be better having more red color and less yellow, but its ok, your taste your choice. Enjoy and have safe flights.

How was he able to keep his weight down to 750lbs? From the forums, most 750's are in the 800lb and up range.

That weight was just what was in the build log. The original builder used a lot of vinyl for accents instead of paint, and the interior is very spartan. It's just got a coat of primer grey to cover the bare aluminum inside, not counting the seats, which I'm not sure what he used to cover them. It has a Rotax, which is only bested, to my knowledge, by a UL Power engine in lighter weight, of the same hp.

Awesome aircraft, but curious about why the propeller change.

I’m looking for an easier prop to re-pitch. The Warp Drive takes leveling the plane to the spinner backplate, and then using extras tools that I don’t want to carry (extra weight). The Sensenich will allow me to re-pitch without doing anything with extra tools, other than a screwdriver. No leveling, or anything else.
