@@DamonBilliot crazy how the format of this video was to cover the process of demon slayers animation, and in doing so, people stayed for your fantastic compositing. nice work dude
I will be turning it into multiple compositing lessons, starting at the beginner difficulty and working upward. The first of which is already on the channel!
i think it stands out because of the lighting, a big majority of the fights in demon slayer take place in a dark environment. Most notable animation moments are heavy with dark shadows and saturated effects/highlights making the scene pop and stand out. Even with a lighter environment, highlights are still a major part of the animation eg: s3 ep 11 where we see nezuko with heavy saturated lighting despite the gradually brighter environment.
Amazing work! It gave good insights into how much hard work and talent it takes to create such amazing-looking visuals. I look forward to such videos. Thanks for the knowledge, it was very informative!

I had a question brother isn't the composition , blur, kind of edits , timing of the editing, choreography timing, camera movement and action emphasis responsibility of the episode director or storyboard artist ?
Storyboards tend to be done by the director, and thats the first phase where these tend to be planned out! They are then annotated and roughed out during the layout phase. The layout is then passed on to background artist and Cleanup animators respectively. Everything is brought back together in After Effects by the compositing team, who is guided by the director!
When you work for a client solo, however (like me in most cases), you tend to take on multiple job roles. It i why i've learned to do all of these things!
@@DamonBilliot I have more questions regarding the three edits of Tanjiro's sword slicing through the demon's neck, I was taught in film making workshop that three shots togetherly form a single scene and three scenes combined together form a sequence So are those cuts regarded as a scene or something else ?
The end on where he starts to do the composition for the frame made me die inside for some reason because I can’t imagine making 300 drawings and then having to compose each drawing for a solid 1-2 hours each. Also.. do any of you know a good video for effects on fire (specifically a type of lingering flame trail)
You don’t have to compose each drawing! You compose each cut! All of the “Tanjiro” frames for that cut would be in the “Tanjiro” layer! Any effects you apply are therefore applied to each frame!

Lets be honest buddy.😂 Demon Slayer is shit! And here's my reason through why: Let us start with Tanjiro since he is the MC of the show, at first he is introduced as a nice guy in the series, pretty generic like most MC in anime Like Deku and Asta. Then he finds out that a demon has attacked his family, then he saves Nezuko and as a result. She turns into a demon then starts to bite Tanjiro. Tanjiro tries to control Nezuko then after that. She really started to cry with was pretty cute. Then Giyuu shows up and tries to decapitate Nezuko. But Tanjiro was not going to let that happen. Then he rushes in and challenges Giyuu despite knowing he will lose. Then Nezuko kicks Giyuu and defends Tanjiro. Then Giyuu knocks out Nezuko and asks Tanjiro to be careful and go ask My Urakodaki for training to become a demon slayer. Couldn't Giyuu at least been more cautious because he was not even aware that Nezuko would even be calm and docile. Could he not just keep Nezuko in a cage and try to hide her from the hashiras and Knock out Tanjiro so he could train with Urakodaki which would have given he more motivation to help his sister. Also. Let us talk about Tanjiros personality: His pretty boring. He has so many likability traits and I do not feel sad or bad for him one bit because he never makes a mistake in the series. Plus. His backstory is not completely fleshed out he hardly gets any development. Even if you could say that he has developed with training with dead people to cut a boulder. The development was just skipped, he was a completely different changed not and we do not know why? Back then he was scared of killing demons and after cutting the boulder? He now chops off there heads??? That is like driving a golf cart at an Olympic sprint game with make that development undeserved! Then let me talk about the Deuteragonist of the series Zenitsu: He is like the worst character in the show, Man I really wanted this guy to die but people like him for some reason because his relatable? And whenever he is knocked out in a fight he somehow has the ability to communicate and do impressive moves when he is asleep? That does not even make any sense and how do you call this a flaw when it does not even make the person lose anything. Also let me talk about the demon slayer side casts: They are all boring, overrated and One Dimentional. They have gotten like one personality trait and have sappy backstories so the author could try so hard to pull at our heartstrings with seems to me as a cheap trick to evoke emotions. And also with the most glazed side character Rengoku; I think his unintesting, incredibly generic as he is extremely kind towards people. But during the Hashiras introduction he actually wanted to kill Tanjiro and Nezuko before even giving them a chance to prove themselves with kind off goes against his code. Then after meeting in the train? His all Good? I mean really, what is Gotouge trying to convey here? Then after that he gets a donut hole after his brutal fight with one of the upper moon's until sunset. Rengokus conclusion was extremely flawed and here are my reasons why: I forgot to mention? How and the hell was Tanjiro even able to learn an ancient breathing technique while other Demon Slayer cannot? Was it an haretiterian thing? IDN. One of the reasons why people dislike about Demon Slayer are the insane amount of plot holes in this show. Also, the world building is not existent. We do not even know what part of Japan there are from and what world view or terror demons have for normal human life. Another hint for Gotouges lazy writing. And I gotta say that this show *lacked* character conflict because people always get along with just makes the tention pretty stale. Plus> The villains in Demon Slayer suck asides Akaza. Overall bro. Demon Slayer is just a Badly written series people have unfortunately hyped due to it's incredible visuals. The show is just fun to watch which is why most people love it. You can watch whatever you want and that is okay. I Just wanted to few of the flaws in Demon Slayer.
@@DamonBilliotyour video is appreciated, I’m an animator but seeing the effort that goes into the effects for a high production anime like Demon Slayer is still kinda wild to me
I believe the 2D&3D blending technique mentioned since 6:23 is also what gave Solo Levelling's webtoon its same appeal. Like many korean webcomics, they use 3D models for backgrounds, but they expertly combine drawn characters, special effects and "imaginary camera" visual effects (depth of field, focus, extreme contrasts) to make it far more seamless than any other comic production, e.g. with the weapon slashes and the glowing auras actually appearing to "exist" in space and interacting with the environment. The same technique used in both animation and still comics to elevate their visuals to the next level.
@@DamonBilliot The artwork is incredibly stellar, and if you're interested in gorgeous 2D & 3D blending comics on par with Demon Slayer's animation, I definitely recommend Solo Levelling and Omniscient Reader as the top 2. I would also recommend taking a peak at T.Jun (another korean artist)'s productions, their 3D modelling is incredibly obvious but their character's facial expressions and physical motions feel surprisingly organic. As for still images, my favourite artist would be wlop! They're known for dreamy character portraits clad in shimmering jewelry and recently began expanding into other themes, 3D modelling and animated wallpapers too, also another expert at 2D x 3D.
This was incredible you explained it so well, as a huge Demon Slayer fan this was super fascinating 😆😍! You should do Levi’s scene from Attack on Titan S3 Ep2, apparently it took 4 months to create that ep 🤩✊🏾!

Never realised how much work went into the compositing, huge hand all round to all the animation studios who produce this incredible work! Your breakdown and composition is incredible too, if you don’t mind, could you explain a few tools you used to get your frame looking so good?(I myself have never experimented with this and am inspired to create artwork as good as yours)
When creating your artwork, try to have pixelated edges. Not having anti-aliasing in the artwork helps to get better color keying in After Effects! I composite in Adobe After effects. Check out the OLM studios plugins for After Effects, they’re specifically designed for this type of workflow, and are available for free on the OLM Studio website! Aside from that it’s mostly just studying what cameras pick up when recording, color theory, and color grading. And use reference! Happy compositing!

@@ManartiO The plot is very repetitive and relys on familiar tropes. People are only liking this very very average show because it has God tier animation.
@@FrancisPresto in my opinion, it’s a great way to start anime. The story is simple and entertaining, nothing to complicated. And the buildup they made now just blew everyone’s mind. I think it’s an really solid anime, that is on the must have watched list. Yes, especially because of the animation. That’s why it’s so different to most anime.
@@Flutter_Dragonz Some of the characters of this show showed inconsistent behaviour. Giyuu said at Urokodaki that he will kill any Demon that their is after witnessing his Conrads death. Then when Giyuu meats the MC and his little sister who turned into a Demon due to getting exposure from the final bosses blood? He then untrusted the boy to take care of the demon acting like his promise to his master meant nothing. Then when Shinobu was chatting with his? He then said: "My only purpose is to slay demons" like then why did he save Nezuko? Why is this dudes character bouncing back and forth??? Then we got Rengoku! The most overrated hashira out of all of them. He is basically just another Tanjiro! His one Dimentional but he shouts alot louder! At the hashira meat up he initially wanted Tanjiro to die for helping her sister despite she being a Demon. Then at the train arc he took a 180 and immediately forgave Tanjiro, but before then he had no problem into executing them without any explanation so doesn't this go against his believe? Then after that Rengoku battles and battle until the first upper moon shows up and Tanjiro describes that he even smells more like Muzan then the other demons he battled. Then Rengoku steps in as an adult because if he backs down then that means that Tanjiro and his friends all die and that was the part that has gotten interesting because Rengoku has fought with all his might and lost an eye in the fight buy still continued until the sun rises and had a donut hole with reminded me of a certain character. Then he says his last words and sees his mom then leaves the world forever. Now this why Rengokus death did not go well because he did not have any flaws, he did anything in the arc perfectly and did not mess things up! Like I said? His basically Tanjiro but much older then we really did not know much about his character from the arc as well. So you see in the world of Demon Slayer, no hashira was even able to defeat an upper moon in their life? Until after Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke beheads the two upper moon 6. Showcasing that nothing has been affect before Tanjiro became a demon! And it is never properly explain how Tanjiro has gotten the Mark? He just gets it and there's that? Also with the hinokami move? How was he able to perfect it in his day in age? He was not even related to Yoriichi by blood and Yoriichi was not able to yeah this knowledge at any other person. So Tanjiros ancestors just transformed it into a dancing move, but it still leaves question into how can Tanjiro accomplish such a feat? Oh, the fact that the Demon Slayer Corp had not defeated an upper moon in 100 years just proofs how imcompotent the Corp is? Literally sending kids to fun supernatural entities that resemble vampires due to only attacking at night! And it also leaves me another question? If Shinobu can use wisteria coated weapons? Then how come they not teach this knowledge to the rooky slayers and not grant then a wisteria coated sword or gun Genya has obtained? And it is literally not even explain why Genya cannot wield a nichirin blade! And the fact that he has irregular blood? How in the world is he able to get trait of abilities from Demon he ate from? And the power system is the more confuding part because it does not really demonstrate the methods and the differentiations of the breathing styles? They are doing just random slashes! And let us be honest. Zenitsu is ligit the worst Deuteragonist yet he was able to get such a massive fanbase? So you are telling me this crybaby was able to get alot of people to like him while there Deku who also cries but developes alot from MHA? What kind of hypocrisy is this? So you see the reason why I have an issue with Demon Slayer is that it does more things wrong then what it does right. It is okay for people to watch a simple show. But when idiots on the internet started to call the bestest anime of all times? Then we are going to have problems buddy. Like My hero academia and Black Clover literally has much better plots and stories then this show could ever possibly achieve now that the manga series has ended. So this is why critics make valid reason when they say the main success if Demon Slayer is from it's animation. Because the source material is severely lacking! *Now I want to here from your point of view?*
I really wish more videos like these behind the scenes of anime were done, to me personally, this type of animation fits exactly what I want to go for and put into my projects

this was a great video! please make a video on a breakdown on your compositing, it came out amazing
The dark and desaturated environments contrast well with the bright and saturated lighting and effects!
You are so good at animating😍 And that's how you made my favorite anime of all time ❤ Demon Slayer for life ❤ ❤

1:46, the best part, with very effects. You can also do the animations in retas studio, clip studio and toom boom animation. A secret of animations is contrast, and it appears a lot and is beautiful to watch in dragon ball- the rebirth of fusion.
I love how people say it’s carried by animation when the most hyped parts of the series haven’t even been animated yet
If a Manga is animated I'd imagine it'd have to be good, otherwise studios would lose interest.
Animation does carry. The mugen train arc movie money making proved it? You're probably talking about Infinity castle arc.

@@DamonBilliot thank you That was really informative .
@@DamonBilliot I have more questions regarding the three edits of Tanjiro's sword slicing through the demon's neck, I was taught in film making workshop that three shots togetherly form a single scene and three scenes combined together form a sequence
So are those cuts regarded as a scene or something else ?
@@DamonBilliot isn't the compositing team guided by the director of photography or cinematographer of the anime .
Thankyou for the breakdown bro, I hope I can start as a Douga artist by the end of the year and videos like these help push me forward!
Good luck man!!
Really?! Well I guess that’s why the effects seem consistent on each frame
yo, great stuff, bro!

I love demon slayer and the creators do alot of work to bring it to life and amazing effects
Lets be honest buddy.😂 Demon Slayer is shit! And here's my reason through why:
Let us start with Tanjiro since he is the MC of the show, at first he is introduced as a nice guy in the series, pretty generic like most MC in anime Like Deku and Asta.
Rengokus conclusion was extremely flawed and here are my reasons why:
I forgot to mention?

Your service is appreciated 🖖
Interesting! My first experience with Solo Leveling is with the show, so I did not know this!
Nice breakdown

The writing is super MID!
@@FrancisPresto Bro, this anime is about good guys beating bad guys. It never was something else (However some plot points i liked (the last season especially)). Just enjoy te show
@@ManartiO The plot is very repetitive and relys on familiar tropes.
