Most underrated and under appreciated RB of All Time. Still don't know how he only had 2 Pro-Bowl selections and no All-Pro selections smh. He was an animal.
It's sad how he has to retire . Seen a interview with him where he said every monday morning his body hurt so bad he was almost in tears getting out of bed and he just couldn't do it anymore . He was so awesome. One of my favorite college backs of all time and when he went to denver (my dad's team ( it was even sweeter
@@Selyn301 yeah I loved those redskins teams they had really good player and played hard but that qb position was just short. I grew up and live in eastern Pennsylvania so I was always watching the eagles redskins and NFL east in general. But frfr redskins to me have the best colors and uniform. I'm a steeler fan
Starting watching the 06 season when I was 7-8 years old .. I remember the games w Clinton betts and Cartwright . I never realized how quick portis was when healthy
He was a completely different runner with this team...more of a follow the blocker back, rather than the create in space back that he was with the Broncos.
he transformed his body to handle Joe Gibbs power running scheme. Its a testament to his greatness as a RB. He could be successful in any running scheme with any style of play. People also forget how amazing of a blocker he was and he could run routes, had good hands, and had amazing vision. I wish we had a more modern offense at the time, cuz he would be amazing in todays pass-happy offenses.
Credit James Thrash doing a full block on the away side of the designed run allowing Portis to cut back and take it to the end zone on his first carry as a Redskin. James Thrash was one of the most underrated Redskins of all time. Lorenzo Alexander, Otis Wonsley, Dean Hamel, Monte Coleman, Don Warren, Vernon Dean, etc ... guys who were never superstars with the Redskins but kept showing up and making big plays when big plays were needed.
Then do it dont tell RUclips about it because I personally know him and him there and here and he never speaks of u. Imma show him this video before u do. Period .
His first game as a Redskin you could see the extra muscle from the offseason, which he didn't sacrifice any speed for, Gibbs tried to recreate him because he couldn't put a line in front of him. Trying to make the fastest back in the league into a fullback is never gonna work. Better zone blocking and passes to him to let him create in the open field with his moves.
Hey BRUCE ALLEN.... There is a position called Fullback or H back. This means you don't have to run out of the shotgun and average 48 rushing yards a game... Pass that info down to Greg Munasky and maybe ADRIAN PETERSON can have some success. Hell, you might even establish a run game and be able to take the top off with a play action pass! Also, I don't know if you've noticed but our QBs are below average, so throwing every play isn't the best option.
I always said if you want to know how good an athlete is look at the numbers, only 1 game short of the 10000 yard club averaged anywhere from 3.8 to 5.5 ypc.
As a huge fan of Portis (he was literally my favorite player and he along with Sean Taylor were the only reasons I became a Redskins fan) I have to say he was nowhere near the RB Peterson was in his prime.
He is on APs level...he played 8 seasons and had over 9k yards. AP is a phenom though and has held up for so long at an elite level. But based on pure running? Portis is slept on and probably a top 25 RB of all time.
@Wesley EPI said CP was a top 25 of all time. AP is top 5. Meaning that they were in their primes AP was on his level...AP was just even higher on that top level, plus has shown how tough and durable he is. His injury comeback was unheard of. I think we're kinda agreeing.
@@nothx962 Portis played 7 years with Redskins. In those 7 years he had a combined 3 runs over 40 yards. There was a 5 year gap between his 2nd and 3rd 40+ yard run. The mark of a truly great running back is the ability to make guys miss or break tackles to create big runs out of nothing. Portis simply did not show that ability at all after he left Denver. Just look at these highlights, there are so many plays here where a better back would have made a guy miss or broke a tackle and gained more yards. Watch Peterson's career highlights and compare them to this. You can't tell me with a straight face that they're on the same level as runners.

Fred Taylor takes that title
@@TrabMatic they share that title moreso
Basically only played 7 years put up almost 10k and 90tds
he had 2 seasons that he ran for over 1,500yds and didn't make a pro bowl..crazy
Clinton Portis, Fred Taylor, Ahman Green, Steven Jackson, Charlie Garner, Stephen Davis, lots of underrated backs from this era.

WELL, hey look at it like this you got Champ Bsiley in the trade. I loved Portis, but I didn't want to give up Bailey for him.
@@w41duvernay I know but still . Wanted him to stay I think his career would have been better off
Ok
He was a hell of a blocker too.
The fastest back to ever come out of the u one of my fav backs of all times
I vividly remember this highlight while eating breakfast in the d-fac in Sadr City Iraq. #1st Cav
Great RB and I miss tge Redskins!
I like Portis Energy, And he's a Hurricane yeah Miami 💯💪
Highlights remind me of a time when we were relevant.
But in actuality ya still weren't relevant

Loved that guy, great running back. One of the only good highlights in the last 15years, there's a few more but he's in my top 5.

C.P. was tough as nails...
I'm a lifelong 9er fan and Joe Gibbs drew up some of the best running schemes I've ever seen.
My Favorite Football player !!
One of the last 100+yrd/per game RB's to do it.... body suffered, because of it and had to retire..... guy was definitely a forgotten 💎....
Watching this in 2024
Nothing like classic NFC East highlights.
I know we got AD now but rather have my man Portis anyday. Love u bro.

Cp is a legend supposed to be in the hof fosho
Even though he had to alter his style in D.C., Portis was still a great runner.
Yea he was zone runner in Denver I believe? 💯💯💯
LOVE the video mane, GREAT JOB! Especially having the original replay sounds and calls instead of some dog crap music 99% of people don't like. #HTTR
Thank you for this video. Finally a highlights package worthy of the man.
Loved playing with him on madden
Forgot how fast portis was until the injuries piled up.

That’s a back man
If he didn't have gotten into trouble with the scandals, definitely a HOF
‘They only disrespect Black Men. They only (try to) cancel Black Men.’ 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Clinton was good runner but he was one of the best blocking runner backs.
As talented as Portis was, he really played for two of the best run game coaches ever in Mike Shanahan and Joe Gibbs.
Good job j. We appreciate your work.
Clinton was a great back
Clinton Portis The Best All Time Back!!!
I’m about to message him his highlights since I speak to him personally here n there. He would enjoy watching this! ✊🏾

Doesn't it look like Adrian Peterson running the ball?
F A N T A S T I C !
Still the prototype Shanahan zone blocking scheme RB. Clinton Protis was the like a xerox machine with year after year of near identical stats.
tight rb

Do the 🐐 Adrien Peterson
Portis Denver > Portis Washington
Larry Johnson
Clinton Portis best run was against "my team" the Bucs. He was a better running back with the Broncos.
Brian Samuels he had a better scheme then. He fit into Mike Shanahans offense perfectly
He was not a better rb with the Broncos
