Did you know that the 2nd Mustang, the "stunt car" from the classic movie Bullitt, that was thought to have been destroyed by a junkyard crusher was located in the desert in Mexico just two years ago or so?
The "beauty car" was always known to be out there but was a big mystery because the family who had it didn't want bothered about it surfaced a couple of years ago but the other one turning up was a big surprise.

Both fastbacks used to film the movie Bullitt have surfaced in the past couple of years, the beauty car was always known to have survived but it's location was a secret because the family that had it since 77 or so didn't want to be bothered about it, what's really exciting is that about the same time the stunt car that was thought to have been put through a crusher after filming completed was discovered sitting in the desert in Mexico.🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️(can you tell I'm excited about it?)

Yea, it was located in the desert in Mexico by a guy who bought it and was going to have it turned into an "Eleanor" replica, fortunately he had the car researched and found out what it really was.
Max Balchowsky, the man who prepped the two Mustang's and three Charger's for the movie (along with many other famous movie cars) bought them after filming was completed, the stunt Mustang was beat up pretty bad so he sold it to a scrapyard and everyone always assumed it was crushed, turns out they sold it to a Mexican scrap dealer and it wound up sitting in the desert down there until it was found by the guy who has it now, what a story ain't it?
For an even more incredible story look up online and on RUclips the story of Max Balchowsky and his home built racer car Old Yeller II, "the junkyard dog that beat the world", it sent every high end European sports car like Ferrari's, Maserati Birdcage's and everything else throw at it back across the Atlantic with their tails between their legs, it'll make you proud to be an American.

My plan? With the kids out of the house we're paying off the mortgage in August (six years early) and next January it's a California Special convertible. It'll look good in the garage next to the '67.

My favorite Mustang remains the original notchback coupe design, specifically the 1967 model. I have one in bright red with a white vinyl top, white and black interior, 289/four speed, original size 1967 size wheels with original 1967 wheel covers, and whitewall tires that match the white vinyl top. It's mostly stock, the biggest modification is a dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers, which is quite a bit louder than stock. It was not originally red, it was a medium metallic green, with no vinyl top. The original interior was a brownish color. It does not have the original engine or transmission. None of that stuff means anything to me. I found a good solid non rusted car, and built what I wanted out of it.

Loved my '67 Fastback Mustang! I took the 390 out and installed a 351C to shed weight and improve RPMs and road handling. With the 3.90 rear end and a M-20 trans, that car ran the quarter in just over 13 seconds - best time 13:29 @ ~115MPH. I did a lot of massaging to the internals - polished beams and crank, static balaned rods/pistons, deburred and chamfered block and oil returns and oil pump, mildly ported heads w/ three-way valve job, topped off w/ a Holley 650 carb and finished w/ 1 3/4" Hooker headers and an Isky dual profile cam and solid lifters. Installed a Mustang 2 rack and pinion steering assembly and really made that car such a pleasure to drive, and eliminated the under steer. Sadly, that car got destroyed by a drunk that smacked it while parked in front of my folks' house, one Thanksgiving day.

Has the optional hood with turn signal lights in it. I paid 500 dollars for it. Of course that was a lot more then than today. It was my daily driver till the summer of 1980 when I bought my 1st new car. Put about 35.000 miles on it over those 3 years. 43 years later, And lots of new cars, I still have it, its still bone stock, in excellent condition, lifelong southern California car. Still has its original black and yellow plates. I still drive it for pleasure, errands, car shows etc. It drives fine, is fine on the freeway etc. So glad the couple times I toyed with the idea of selling it, in the mid 80s, a little voice kept saying, if you do this, you will regret it big time! Its definitely not going anywhere now!! It's part of the family. Thanks for making this vid for us car crazy people.

Fine work! My farther bought a '67 Shelby GT350 and it was a great mustang - worth a small fortune today. But the '69 Boss 302 and 429 were the true performance cars of the '60's

Boss 302 was a slow car. Even the magazines back then said they were slow.

0:39 I owned that exact '67 HO Firebird for 18 to 20 years. Bought it in '73.
Main differences from other model was, door panels, single leaf with factory ladder bar, 335 HP 400, heavy Borg-Warner 4 speed
and that famous original hood tach. Neither '67 or '68 had both hood tach and scoop hood from the factory. Now a days you see both.
My HO was an early production where you could see they torched the hole in the hood for tach installation at the factory.
Getting my drivers licence in summer of '71 tells the story of great cars and great friends and oh yea...Great Music.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I had a '67 Lime Gold Mustang Fastback, which I bought in 1974 with 89000 miles. It was powered by a 289 2 barrel with an automatic transmission.
I'd like to add some comments that appear often overlooked.
The interior was amazing ! With a fold down rear seat and an access door to the trunk. When required that provided exceptional interior utility. I wished that design was continued in all cars. Honestly you could stuff lots in that car.
Mine was equipped with a factory tachometer in the dash which being an automatic, I always thought was curious . Actually I think that was a rare accessory on a lower performance model. Most were equipped with a trio of idiot lights where I had a tach.
Also the front brake calipers were dual piston. Another surprising upgrade. Not so good when one piston would seize, wearing the pads at an angle.
The doors were huge and over a short time overwhelmed the hinge pins. Ford Parts gave me new pins free of charge.
Lastly, after some amateur (me) cosmetic body freshening, those individual letters on the lower side of the front fenders, just behind the front wheels were a poor idea on the 67 and attracted rust. I got the idea to consider a cheap respray. The local body shop told me sight unseen, that that was a bad idea. Without even looking they listed about 8 areas of 'minor' rust that was actually the top of well known and large rust events.
In spite of that disappointment, I drove the car for a year and a half, til I graduated University and moved on. I loved it.
ps ..Any comments on how my 67 got built with a factory tach and 2 piston calipers would be appreciated.

Thank you for a trip back in time.
I believe 1972 mother purchased a 1968 Mustang GT formal roofline Mustang. My sister had purchased it briefly before and needed the money for collage.
Maroon, with matching colour pony interior, GT wheels, full console w/ floor shift automatic, 289 2bl. Me @ 11 years old, was in LOVE. It had driving lights (they didn't work for unknown 11 year old reasons) and I loved the reverse hood scoop turn signals in the hood.
I was privileged to be able to sit on a couple of throw pillows and get to drive the Mustang GT at 12 years old, by then. Shortly afterwards............VERY Clear memory, November 1975 mother traded the car in for a 1973 LTD. ONE pissed off 12 year old. I begged her to take the LTD back and calmly went away and cried for hours. Fond memories of a very cool, Now extremely collectable car. Thank you for listening.

A high school buddy had a 67 notch back with the 2 barrel 289 - and it was a really nice car. Styling was great, interior was really nice, handled great, decent power, even got fairly good gas mileage if you kept your foot out of it. Really the only downside was the sloppy Ford steering box.

For my first car after high school was an early 1968 mustang with a 2 barrel carbed 289 and the standard 3 speed on the floor. Great first car plus if driven easy it could get 20 miles to the gallon. Later I put on a 4 barrel intake and dual exhaust which woke it up. Too bad I didn't keep it.

My first car was a 67 fastback Mustang....with the 200 cube straight 6 and three speed manual. I modified the car slightly with a "Thrush" muffler and tuned the engine to run high octane aviation gas. That high octane gas plus the tuning allowed me to blow away 289 Mustangs through second gear.....and then I hit third and got left in the dust. :( That car was a BLAST!!!

I bought my 1968 coupe from my Aunt in 1970. My first car.... and I still own it and drive it here in 2022. It's a 289 with a C4 automatic and a 2100 2-bbl carb. All numbers matching, including the carb. Yeah , wish it had a bigger engine and a 5 speed, but that was what she bought from Fuller Ford here in Cincinnati. I also have a 2001 "New Edge - SN95" and a 2010. All three are red. From what I have been told, my '68 was one of the very last of the 289s, since the following week they switched to the 302.
