Alright bruh... you have 2 options when it comes to autoglass, OEM or aftermarket. Depending on the location of where youre getting the replacement done they might only have 1 brand available not multiple, if you're at a location that has a warehouse they can do a brand check, but the brands will not dictate a price change, the only price change will be oem glass or aftermarket, all aftermarket ones will be the same price. So no you were not scammed.

Your full it it , I worked in the auto glass industry for 16 years. The aftermarket is most definitely cheaper by a long shot. You don’t know what you’re talking about

@@SeanSean77111I never said aftermarket wasnt cheaper, of course it’s cheaper than the OEM glass. I simply stated you can go either oem or aftermarket, but because the warehouse might have 1 or 2 different brands they would be the same aftermarket price. But yes all of them will be cheaper than OEM glass.

Very true what you are saying. Choosing Pilkington brand even though it’s not OEM is a good choice. But, not all cities have that brand available to them.

I own and operate my own auto glass company. If you want an OEM windshield you will need to specify at the time you schedule the appointment. There is a difference in price. There is no difference in the quality of the windshield. After market windshields need to meet FMVSS . Most insurance companies will pay for the OEM if you request it at the time the claim is filed
Although sometimes you will have to pay the difference in price. Insurance companies only pay a certain amount to the glass company

Safelite will give you a quote and when they show up to do the job that quote will go up over 100 dollars.
Do not let them do this!

Safelite Solutions Network taxes auto glass companies 47%-52% off of the NAGS list price
I hate insurance claims because we lose way too much money.
Pay up front and get a reimbursement!
They hate approving OEM Glass as well!

My daughter was getting her windshield replaced so my granddaughter went out and asked the guy if he could fix a rock chip he said yeah turn your air conditioner on and put a cold rag on your windshield she did that and it cracked her windshield you never put a cold rag on a hot windshield under no circumstances they told her or you're going to have to go through your insurance company luckily she has glass coverage you never ever put cold water on a windshield on a hot day it will crack faster than you can say oh s***

I drive sports and European cars with HUDs, etc. A rock doesn’t care if it’s OEM. Get the cheapest; it won’t be the last one you get.

Cheap is fine but quality of workmanship is extremely important. Keeps you safe in your vehicle in case of an accident. As long as it's done right. Clean everything, prime where needed, extremely important and it doesn't have to cost a lot to do the job right. Don't go too cheap. That will effect the quality of the technician.

I have had cheap windshields and they are significantly weaker from rock chips, also they spider out within instantly. They also have optical imperfections. I used to get these semi regularly. Then one time, the last time, I got OEM and it is MUCH more resistant to chips and cracks and thus lasts longer. It also sealed WAY better and was a quieter windshield keeping more outside noise out. So.... I mean, yes you are correct, you may need to buy windshields no matter what, but you get what you pay for, and if I pay 2 times the price for OEM and it generally lasts 3 to 4 times as long as a cheap POS windshield with the added benefits of not leaking, and quieter..... Well hands down, I am choosing the more expensive better quality made window Every time.
It's like getting a cheap power tool from Harbor Freight VS a good quality Bosch or whatever.... I still have all my Bosch stuff and works like new. The harbor freight shit already broke and is in a landfill somewhere. So.....

They will put in 1st available parts. Now if you want OEM is closest to it, it will cost more. Either out of pocket or insurance. Insurance will not provide OEM in your vehicle is 2 years old or older. You would have to pay the difference. Also if the glass is not available aftermarket then OEM will have to do but again it will cost. Aftermarket are not bad as long it's not way aftermarket. Keep in mind if you traveling in an area where the city always has construction 🚧 going on, 🛣 upgrades, building etc. And you already had your windshield replacement once already just get aftermarket.
Big plus advice. Check the ratings, and reviews for that company your planning on using Or was told to use. Big name brand company doesn't always have to be the one. Smaller companies might be able to get what you need sooner. Another thing it's not always the glass you need to worry about. It's the workmanship. As long as the job is done right per specs. You do have your own choice to pick the glass company it doesn't not have to be what your told. You can choose, do your rating and review research. The higher the rating the better service you will get.

I did auto glass for a number of years. And only a handful of times was it necessary to use oem due to fitment issues mostly because they were a new model. All American glass is produced under strict standards so in most cases you are fine with aftermarket, only issues I’ve had with quality is fy glass (poor fit on occasion and almost always had distortion and waves in the glass) so just ensure it’s U.S. glass and you should be good
Also you can buy a brand new car at a dealer with aftermarket glass. They get damaged in shipping and the dealers will use a company like Safelite to put in the cheapest non oem glass they can get. They rarely use oem glass only if they have too

    • @Miguel_A_S
      @Miguel_A_S 2 года назад

Dealers will use OEM if they have to pass the dealers warranty. But if it's a used vehicle that is getting aftermarket unless it's not available. I do glass work for 5 different dealerships and the Port. So yeah your mostly right.

Nobody installs OEM unless they are "Authorized" we all prefer to do OEM. But sometimes it's not available or allowed because of the price. It's not aways the glass company's decision.
