This is a horrible ad in my opinion. We barely even saw the car which surprisingly is what they are trying to sell. Almost 1 minute before we even see the car and hardly even showed the interior. They focused more on the woman and trying to tell some sort of story rather than showing us the features of the actual product they are selling.
lj jones this is the idea :D good adds don't show product they sell more than just a product... the idea of good add is that you don't even see the product almost note some of the greatest adds in human history for example apple think different add :) what sounds better to you? -"with this car your life will be peaceful and happy" -"THIS CAR HAS NICE TIRE AND CURVES AND NICE COLOUR CHECK IT OUT"
lightgorm I wouldn’t agree entirely with that. It all depends on personal preference and how ads are taken by each individual. There have been lots of great motor vehicle advertisements that just showcase their product in full and tell you directly about them, unlike this ad which is trying to relay some message and story that not everyone will connect with. This ad is beautifully shot though in terms of cinematography, I hope this does sell well for them because this commercial alone would have cost quite a penny to make.
I agree about the best car commercial ever. I also like the short version I see on TV. I liked it so much I actually googled Volvo XC40 ad to find it. Great job Volvo (and the company who does your advertising)!
@@VolvoCars Anthony, there is nothing I don't love. I noticed that my 2019 has a few more features, and storage spots than current models... so I think I lucked out with one of the first. In my opinion the design is still striking, modern and classy, inside and out. i hope to have mine for many, MANY more years...
So there is a troll out there, most likely whose services were procured by a competitor to come here and smear the page with the exact same comment. Always have and will continue to love spots produced by Volvo, a class act above the rest of the industry.
i am beginning to miss this era of volvo deeply, the beautiful cars with traditional european designs yet modernized, the stunning details, the leather and natural materials that made up the interior, the dramatic, beautiful ads such as this. now that volvo is moving to products like the ex30, and ex90, they don’t have any of the charm that this generation of volvo had.
bdumitru07 This is a horrible ad in my opinion. We barely even saw the car which surprisingly is what they are trying to sell. Almost 1 minute before we even see the car and hardly even showed the interior. They focused more on the woman and trying to tell some sort of story rather than showing us the features of the actual product they are selling.
ad is always about a story. If you wanna see the car...go to the website and look at the picture! Features? All cars have same features for the last 5 years! (besides Tesla who revolutionized auto industry) Why you need them to reconfirm that the car has bluetooth or am radio? thats ridiculous! we live in 2018 and not '90s!
bdumitru07 If you did your research you would see that there are motor vehicle advertisements from different manufacturers in parts of the world that feature and detail the product directly. A classic is the Holden Calais from Australia which featured the vehicle in a warehouse and a 360 degree camera that makes a resolution while listing its features. It was very effective. All cars have the same features? Actually there are lots of cars with different features both in hardware and software in comparison to different manufacturers and models, besides that isn’t the point. “If you wanna see the car...go to the website and look at the picture!” Wow that’s a great Tagline! Hahaha Volvo should have used that at the end of this advertisement.
first of all you can't compare holden with Volvo. Thats absolutely on different quality and detail levels. Second, if your looking specifically for a car with 360 d camera then you should learn how to drive and use your eyes!
bdumitru07 The Holden Calais is a luxury model that is equipped with features along the lines of European competitors and I wasn’t talking about the vehicle having a 360 degree camera I was talking about how the advertisement was filmed.
Amazing commercial as always from Volvo... Watching this on my 2018 Volvo XC60. I buy Volvos because of their commitment to innovation and safety. And of course, Scandinavian design at its best!
Mark Simon This is a horrible ad in my opinion. We barely even saw the car which surprisingly is what they are trying to sell. Almost 1 minute before we even see the car itself and hardly even showed the interior. They focused more on the woman and trying to tell some sort of story rather than showing us the features of the actual product they are selling.
Looking through the comments, I see a lot of thumbs up for this advertisement. I must not be the target demographic on this... I'm in my 30s but I do already have a newer XC60 and XC70. I just saw this video as busy and slightly dystopic. I understand why she wants to escape, but why live in such a horribly busy and chaotic place to begin with? Still, seems like a nice car so long as the T5 can keep the acceleration to 60 MPH under 7 seconds.
Why did you decide she wants to escape? This video is about choice. Someone chooses the crowd, the queue and deliver in dirty vans. And someone has a Volvo and he can spend time the way he really wants.
Артем Артем, it looks like she's escaping because she appeared mildly frustrated in the beginning of the clip. She then drives out of the city to someplace calm and serene. She looks off in the distance as if she sees freedom...
glsracer I thought it was a horrible ad. It’s supposed to be about a car and we barely even saw it. Who cares about characters and story, lol are they making an ad or a tv drama series? Just show me the product you’re selling!
Lj Jones agreed. Volvo already made some design and marketing mistakes back in the 2008 to 2013 time period. The design of the S60 and XC60 at that time looked like the strange offspring of Mercedes and Volvo. Not very attractive. Volvo was trying to attract cross shoppers from other luxury brands. They got back to they're roots in 2014. Volvo should really focus on maintaining attractiveness to current and past Volvo owners as well as being an aspirational brand for those in Subrarus and Mitsubishis. Volvo's strengths have been primarily in the safety, performance, and value for money. Volvo is making a mistake by trying to move more up market with some of their newer cars. The XC40 could be placed right in it's market but I wouldn't try to attract trendies. Marketing should focus on intelligent and successful millennials rather than hip city dwellers who often prefer public transport over vehicle ownership.
Hi, we're happy to hear that and you're welcome to explore our career page to learn more about vacancies, requirements and what it's like to work at Volvo Cars at group.volvocars.com/careers
The most depressing thing about this ad is that the R-design trim shown ONLY comes with a black on black interior with zero contrast. Way too dark (even adding the orange carpet doesn't brighten it up enough). Make the R-design available with the blond or amber interior and then it would be what this ad shows it to be.
"Everything you need, nothing you don't" is the catch phrase. I assume it is talking about the city, shopping, money and buying (1:09 - 1:18 for example). This car is meant to be seen as an escape from that because it simply pleases people with the essentials.

Front end is okay, but I hate the most the look of c pillars and tail lights and rear rear end, which is so ugly. Cadillac Escalade’s c pillars and rear end is the best.
This looks more like a Black Mirror episode rather than a car commercial.. beautiful!
This vehicle will sell like crazy! Great job Volvo! Beautiful XC40!
Absolute Masterclass of a commercial! Stunning, just stunning! Throw in a beautiful track in the background and.... Very Inspiring! Bravo Volvo!
Another master piece by Volvo. I would buy your car for these ads
Literally be best car commercial out there... Really hope this gets aired on TV. Counting down the days until my XC40 First Edition arrives now!
Louis Vella old volvo commercials were the best they literally drifted in the snow with "the new volvo 760 back then"

Great job Volvo! One of the few times I’m watching a commercial video voluntarily over and over again :-)

I love when companies trying to sell us something make videos commenting on consumerism.
Special people deserve special cars. Volvo makes it.
Brussels car show sales still 70% fossil gasoline fuel cars, but Volvo didn't have one available... only Diesel cars !
I hope that Volvo will use hybrid or electric motor in new models.
Hayrettin Başaraner they are...or will starting with 2019.
Consumerism is out of control. Buy our car if you agree!
Humans are ironic, dont we?
Volvo’s commercials never seem to disappoint. Just like their cars.
I LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL/AD! AND I LOVE MY VOLVO XC40!
I still love this commercial... I love my city being featured in it, and I love driving around Toronto in my very own XC40. Nothing like it. :)
Thanks for sharing your love for the Volvo XC40! What do you love the most about your car? 🙌 /Anthony

Goosebumps! Amazing commercial and such a gorgeous car. Ordered the twin engine a month ago. Can't wait driving it!
Thank you for your kind words and congratulations on your new car, Reinhard!
Subscribed to mine yesterday! Can't wait to get behind the wheel!
how is it after 1 year??
I love to sit in my xc40 and listen to this song :*

Great ad as always
Volvo rlly puts their whole volvussy into their commercials/ads
stunning images
This isn't the same as the commercial, conmercial has more bass and she sounds different. How do you get that song?
Как всегда, потрясающе...
Looking a nice car

Because truly the story sells.
This is amazing!
Great ad!

Filmed in Toronto. The Cn Tower is visible

Why don't you offer PHEV first?
really loved that one but! why she's wearing a hat at the end? some logic was broken
Could anyone explain the ads please

Wow!

Good
I like this ad.
Song?
What’s the name of the song and performer???
Hi Rob, the song is My Favorite Things, performed by Jennie Abrahamson.
볼보 xc40 느낌 좋은데!
이정도면 현대자동차 올뉴투싼격
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💖
Two things i don't like: the beautyful fluid lines are replace with ugly sharp ones and the fact that they are only addressing to women
볼보 xc40 정도면
대한민국 자동차
기아자동차 스포티지R
51거9971 타는듯한 기분이다.
Terrible commercial! I would like to see the car instead of random people and meaningless flashy images
sarcasm.
Nice song, ruined in this commercial
Interested in the vehicle, but TERRIBLE video / ad ... had nothing to do with the XC40.
Front end is okay, but I hate the most the look of c pillars and tail lights and rear rear end, which is so ugly. Cadillac Escalade’s c pillars and rear end is the best.
I agree it’s a weird looking ugly car. And it doesn’t even look like a Volvo.
Song?
Hi John, thanks for your question and sorry for the late reply: The song is My Favorite Things performed by Jennie Abrahamson.
