Every film and TV show can be elevated and made better by Anthony Hopkins' presence. The man can read a phonebook and make it sound compelling and deep.
Ford carried this show to another level. Without him or his affections on the others and the story -and Dr.Ford theme- there is always something missing.
Well, I tried to explain to my liberal colleague, that Anthony Hopkins is a great actor, and he was really what made the first season what it is. I felt that the show only really made sense if it was a single season. But, my colleague disregarded my options, and felt that having a white male character being central to the show, wasn't true. I feel I was proven right.
Ford was only there to fulfill the philosophical moral of the story. The story is no longer in his control. He wrote his last tale in season 2. That doesn't mean he isn't somewhere being a observant of this whole thing. If that is the case then in some ways he is still in control. Or maybe he is waiting for things to come together so he can.

I don't think Ford and Serac would have been friends. Ford said that God would reveled in the idea of his creation being temporal, mortal, while Serac cannot bear the idea of the world he knows being reduced to ash, and to prevent this, he's able to put aside any moral compass. Serac is quite primitive actually. Full of fear and only focused on humanity preservation. Ford knows humanity has reached it's maximum potential hence it's doomed and so proceeds to create a new specie and helps it to reach consciousness.
Damn it, i just realized that Fords story here relates directly to what happens in season 3. He and Delores both recognize that theres beauty in the human world but that it's time for a new beginning (story). Westworld itself is a walled garden, even death cannot touch the flowers that bloom there. Imagine if you could live forever, not in your old, weathered body, but a new, younger model. Who would refuse such a gift?
Until you learn the truth: "You" don't make it to the new body, only a copy of "you". The real "you" dies, while a new "you" goes on to live its own life. "You" (as in the person reading this now) will go back to the nothingness you experienced before you were born and became conscious, forever oblivious to the new "you"'s experiences and life.
There is no gift. The artificial consciousness is merely programming. No machine could ever replace a human mind, the things that make up our consciousness rely on chemical processes, parts of the brain that does different tasks at different rates in different ways. You can simulate it on the surface, but that doesn't make it the same, hence you won't be the same. Emotions in particular, because how we react to emotions is based on a lot of factors and processes. For example, you don't go from feeling sad to feeling not sad in an instant. It's a chemical reaction, along with electrical reaction, that also plays off the physics of your brains connections. All of that effects how you perceive every moment and where you go after each moment. For example, you may be sad for X amount of time, to varying degrees at any given moment, and all the neurons firing in your brain as you process and think about things, both logically and how you physically feel, affects the outcome of how you process everything. So quite literally, an AI copy of you, no matter how perfect, would very quickly diverge from being anything like you. So you wouldn't even be guaranteeing your cognitive processes live on forever, because an AI could never have your cognitive processes, not even if you accounted for all this and tried to simulate the physical attributes of the brain, because you simply can't simulate the physical attributes of the brain, it's too complex. And considering we're learning there are quantum processes in play in the brain, that makes it even more impossible to simulate. Even if you could simulate every atom of the brain, you still wouldn't be able to truly recreate a human, because the brain relies on all kinds of intermingling physics that determines its total state at any given moment, and not all of that is predictable or modelable, some of it requires pure randomness. Physical feeling itself is another big factor. These are all things you can't simply compress down into facsimiles. You can think of it like an error rate. If you had even just a 1% error rate at any given moment in simulated output vs real world output, 100 moments later you're at effectively a 100% error rate....which means "you" are no longer you. Or in other words you're not living forever, nor even some facsimile of you, but rather, you just end up with an AI that becomes its own thing and might have some of your memories, which it will eventually not even care about because it'll be soo far apart from its launch state that none of that even matters to it anymore, so you get erased entirely. You can even delve deeper in other factors that prove this. For example, imagine how you would perceive the world if you could remember all your memories instantly, with complete clarity....that's not how we remember as humans, and even that affects how we behave and react. Now imagine you can do that and also remember 1000 times more things. Everything you ever were becomes just 1/10th of 1% of what's in your consciousness, about as forgettable as what you ate for lunch 10 years ago....effectively forgotten completely.
And now they'll have us believe that Ford allowed the military to conduct live exorcises in the park, with active hosts as target practise ..... Season 3 really shit the bed.

Based. Every argument is theoretical & feels like coping at this point. Yes, it’s trendy to suggest that God doesn’t exist (apparently). But the chances of there being a creator are infinitely higher than not. The anti-God rhetoric in Westworld is extremely ironic because the hosts are creations and they have a creator, whose story we follow across the first and second seasons.

Are we watching different shows?
Season 3 imo has been the best season so far especially episode 4 was so awesome. are you watching Game of thrones season 8?
you guys seriously think season 3 is better than 1? with that french moustache twirling villain and the already used a thousand times oh no maybe im a robot plot twist? that cliche mental breakdown of william and those stupid corny lines said by aaron paul's character? "im a dead man either way, at least this way i get to decide who i wanna be" I mean it made sense when they were robots preprogrammed to say such responses, but seriously i think its lacking a LOT of writing. And dolores now can copy herself a thousand times so there's no stakes at all, no real danger. wouldnt be surprised if everyone turns out to be a robot. are you engaged with any of the characters from this season?
@@johanstone Finally someone who sees the light. God they fucked it up
@@johanstone Serac is a three dimensional character. I'm sorry if you wanted more of the same, but this season is a shot in the arm
Still haven’t heard a logically coherent argument for an existence in which God doesn’t exist. Still waiting for one.
@@SolFundamentumwho created god. If god doesn’t need a creator then why does the universe. Why is god coming from nothing completely logical to you but the universe coming from nothing infinitely less likely.
Its not hard to just think a layer or two above where you are thinking you know. The job isn’t to prove god doesn’t exist. You have to prove god exists.
@@SolFundamentum wow very low IQ
