Never thought of myself as someone who loves patterns. But when I look at your work I just get giddy. Your paintings are so freaking fun at first glance and when you look deeper there is so much more to enjoy...brushmarks, texture, colors. Thank you for sharing your thought process and sharing your enthouisasm for creating and painting. It is infectious. So now I am going to paint. HopHop...:)
I totally agree with you about letting the art take it's own twists and turns 😁I start with a plan and it always takes a twist into something else and it's sometimes worth it but always more fun ..Thankyou Helen your work is wonderful
I am SO grateful for you, your book and all your videos here! I was so stuck, quite frozen actually, and you have managed to unthaw something very joyful and life-giving within me.
Thank you Helen…as I was listening and watching I just wished that our grandson who went to art school full of anticipation and excitement, had the enthusiastic people in front of him as we have in you. He is loving his tattooing and has a growing clientele…but he was a broken young man after his first and only two years of disappointment. You truly are such a bright ray of sunshine!
Helen I've been looking forward to your latest video! Such wise words. I love to see your art process. All of your work is lovely, but the blue and green paintings were my fave this week. They have a undulating, dreamlike, underwater quality. Quite mesmerising. Thankyou.
You’re so right that the struggle is what makes us appreciate a painting more. When it goes through many ugly stages and you finally start to feel like you’re solving the puzzle, there’s this excitement that comes over you, a rush when that perfect colour or mark makes it’s way next to its match on the canvas and everything in you just gets fired up and you know it’s going to come out. You really hit the nail on the head with that one! When it comes too easy it kinda always feels like there’s something missing, that it’s somehow incomplete. Absolutely love all your paintings, the textures, the colours, the patterns, just wow! Thank you for your generosity in sharing so much of yourself and art with us!
Painting is like life really! Never linear, full of twists and turns, risk and reward, and then the beautiful result at the end with which we are happier (if that makes sense?) . As my late Mum would say 'you won't know until you try'...if I was reluctant about something. I love your paintings Helen ❤ especially your Wisdom Tree! Beautiful colours especially the background!
Oh that’s exactly right…it really is a microcosm of life with all the ups and downs, joys and disappointments. Thank you for sharing that. Love Helen x
You are my shining star! I’ve learned so much from you the last years,it’s as if you are giving me a private lesson! Your use of humor lightens the darkest day! I read your books and even though my medium is now watercolor I always hear your voice when I’m painting! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and wisdom! Karen Dirmish, learner
Thanks so much once again for being open and willing to share your thoughts about your process. Lots of fun food for thought. I can't wait to start taking more risks and see what happens.
your work is stunning, I love the vibrancy, and the tip to write and dissect the creative process is fascinating, something I haven't done before but will definitely try.
They’re from a British brand called Daler Rowney. A3 artist sketchbook. I purchased it at Cass Arts. They are cheap and easy to get here in the UK if you are not in the UK this brand will be difficult to find/expensive…
Oh that’s funny. I promise I’m not. But I think it’s just the studio light I use or the exposure on my camera..it is slightly over exposed and bleaches out my face a little and masks all my spots and wrinkles. Tee hee
