100%. It's hard to say NZ were 9 out of 10 when they spent 20mins a man down.
Discipline is part of the game. They lost those men for a reason and they often get yellow cards. I think the yellow against Arron Smith was maybe a little soft but I couldnt belive Muanga didn't get a yellow for his high hit on Aki. The 2nd yellow had to be given. It was clearly a penalty try which has to be accompanied by a yellow.

❌No real discussion on All Blacks having had to play under extreme adversity for 20 minutes with two dubious soft Yellow cards and a gift penalty try...All Blacks played with their hands tied behind their backs, led all the way and still won the game. They were not dubious yellow cards. In fact, there should have been two additional red cards for direct head contact tackles on Aki and Ringrose. Nor was it a gift penalty try. It was a penalty try, Ireland would have scored otherwise.
Indeed, Ireland should have been awarded a second penalty try because Barrett neck-rolled Kelleher as he held him up over the line.

AB’s applied more pressure at set piece, kick chase, tackle and breakdown areas. Simple as that. All this talk from Irish pundits of Ireland not “playing to their potential” is rubbish. The AB’s didn’t allow them to “play to their potential”. For the last two years Ireland have been applying massive amounts of pressure to everyone else. Thats why no one else has been able to “play to their potential”. Well, the roles got reversed the other night. Ireland found themselves under the blow torch. And were found wanting, not by much, but enough to be on the morning flight home. Pressure. Hard lesson to learn when you’re on the receiving end rather than dishing it out. And if you’re still in denial, cue the excuses.

I think Ireland were amazing, and it was an amazing game. But, and there is always a but, I stopped listening to Irish podcasts because they just became an echo chamber about how Ireland were going to win. I don’t remember anyone asking where or how Ireland might get beaten and how to try and counter that. Ireland’s set pieces were a problem in the SA game yet no one talked about that. Against NZ it was a problem again. Even so it was a game of very fine margins. I honestly think the thing that beat you was NZ have won 3 world cups. Big game temperament. It’s not your technique it’s mindset. 2 years of being No. 1 in the world blinded you.

This irish team should not be on the same stage as new Zealand
This idea of soft tries to NZ is why you guys don't know Rugby. If you need dozens of phases to score tries than you clearly don't have the xfactor needed to be the best long term. Why put together dozens of phases to score when you can score in under 5 phases with true class? South Africa's tries against France were not multi phased tries either. It is great that Ireland can hold onto the ball forever but that alone doesn't win Rugby games, in NZ we know the best time to score is from turnovers or early on in the phase count and if you are getting too high in the phase count normally NZ sides look for contestable kick options instead as it gets very hard to score tries the longer your phase count gets. Instead of calling our tries soft why not learn how to score these types of tries as well.

Agree. The shear pace and precision from Mo' unga and Jordan for that try alone was something to behold. Same goes for SA with players like Colby etc...

Recent data shows that the longer teams hold onto the ball the less likely they are to score a try. It gives the defensive lines more and more time to set and the attack becomes slower and weaker as it drags on.
Guys, with all due respect, get off your high horse...the best team won on the night...until you own that and make the changes, and discover & learn what it really takes to win WCs, and to be World Champions, you never will. There are multiple facets and there is much more to the game of rugby than meets the eye; its a very complex game with concomitant player, team, coaching, management, strategic, and psychological, political, leadership, and spiritual challenges. There were also moments of brilliance by the ABs that superseded what Ireland had to offer. Ireland were exposed on the night. Rotation is a factor too Every playoff is a final...wake up. Whats is it that Ireland still need to do within this complex context of the game!?
To be fair, the dude second from the left is realising this. I think the Irish as a whole are probably still too shell-shocked to ask the right questions.
The guy second from left gets it. The other three were disgruntled at him and I think not too happy with his comments, especially around the 15 minute mark.
The irony is some of them are the same one's who were saying South Africa was making excuses when they claimed they wasted certain opportunities in the group stages. With 20 minutes playing against 14 men and a penalty try to boot, Ireland can only accept they were not good enough on the day. Mistakes are a consequence of pressure. Ireland still a great team. Jordan running off the shoulder of Mounga is pretty standard Crusaders play, Mounga is a very fast 10.

No one on this podcast said New Zealand didn't deserve to win. Every Irish pundit I listened to acknowledged that New Zealand were the better team on the day. However, New Zealand probably had one of their best games in recent years whereas Ireland were not at their best. That is what the panel are discussing.
There is a massive disconnect with their collective logic and conclusion. They all agree Ireland were 2nd best in all facets of the game yet they still think Ireland should have won???? They didn’t choose to be 2nd best, they were FORCED/DOMINATED into being the 2nd best. How can you say they then should have won??? I think Ireland played their BEST but against riled up AB team they were made to look ineffective. They played 20 minutes with extra man and they still lost. If ABs lost a game where they were 2Ominutes with extra player, AB fans and NZ would have crucified the ABs. Yet none of the Irish panel mention their team was 20mins with xtra man.

Any team can only play as well as their opposition allows and the ABs gave Ireland 20 minutes with one man down so the differential between the teams was not reflected in the score. Ireland played to their limits and that wasn't enough.

In RWC finals, you take points when offered. Particularly when margins are fine. NZ made the tries look simple but they were strategically succinct. Calling the losing side 'the better team" is a misnomer in itself. Sexton missing a kick, the try being held up, Doris dropping the ball, Van der Flyer being quiet, losing the breakdown battle, making mistakes, are all the result of being "outplayed" by a better team and not handling the pressure of a RWC Quarter final. Top 4 are still close but ranking doesn't win RWC games. NZ learnt about semi preparation from 2019 so i dont see any complacency or fatigue having as much of an influence against the Argies. On top of everything else, NZ did not drop a ball the whole match..

The ABs were just very clinical and were hungry to set the record straight. The no1 ranking really went to Irelands head. They thought they would just pitch up and do what they did to Scotland forgetting the Scots at their best are still a huge drop off from the ABs. Ireland played to their best.
The problem for them was facing an All Blacks team that produced a level of performance that the Irish havent had to deal with across their 17 match winning streak.
Thats why they lost.
They were far from their best. They were second in the scrum 3/0 bizarre pens to NZ on vibes. The line out didn't have its usual 90% accuracy, and the ruck was poor but still could have won at the death.
The only thing they didn't have to deal with in the 17-game run was losing. They dealt with all them things they just got over the line
They were far from their best. You know nothing about the Irish team if you think that. However, they were in the game until the end despite this. New Zealand were the better team on the day and deserved to win. However, if the two teams were to play again it could easily go the other way.
Rúaidhrí O'Connor, hit the nail on the head, Ireland were seeing this game as another step in the journey towards the final whereas NZ saw this game as just "one more week" - you can hear them shouting this at the end of the match.
If you read Dan Carters book, he spells this out as their failings in the RWC 2007. The ABs were focusing too much on the end goal, and not the next step in the process. DC says this was their key to handling pressure in 2011 and 2015 towards making it through (or at least into semis)in the knock out stages. And as you can see from the post match interviews, some of the Irish players were just shocked and almost couldn't believe they were going home early. Sport psychology is bloody interesting.
Same thing happened with the French. Hard lessons learned while the legacy teams, SA and NZ had learned them decades ago and brought that wealth of experience with us.

I rewatched the last 37 phases, and the big takeaway from that was how slow ireland was, and ho predictable. Ball to Sexton, two steps and pass. Tackled, ball to Sextan, two steps and pass. They had nothing left in the tank, and were missing the ability to go up a gear.
Ian Foster called it "cut and paste attack", the same moves over and over again, slow and predictable. While it looked dramatic at the time, Ireland were making very slow territorial progress, NZ just had to bide their time for an opportunity to steal the ball.
Too many words to try and explain why Ireland lost. Let me help you guys by summing it all up.

Johnny missed a plenty, so did Jordie, AB's got 'soft ties', then what was JBP's try??!! Plus a penalty try. Ireland played as well as they were allowed, full stop! I'm sorry boys but this is SAD (except for Rúaidhrí O'Connor). If your boys were good enough, they would have been good enough. Why is it soooo impossible to believe that an AB's team might have been better? Plus, IRE had 20mins with a man advantage. They got out smarted, they got outplayed. I'm a huge fan of Irish rugby, and absolutely appreciate what your boys have done against us, I mean that honestly. But champions are better than excuses. Has everyone forgotten the world calling the AB's the best team outside of a WC for 24 years??!! It doesn't happen off a 2 year winning streak. If you were sooo happy to take the plaudits, have class, and give credit. Really SAD, (except Rúaidhrí O'Connor).
NZ took 24 years to figure the way to get through a world cup, why is it soo hard to believe that the AB's might have been building for this moment?

I watched the game as a neutral and in the 1st 10-15mins I thought ABs looked more urgent and seemed to just want it more. Ireland fell into complacency I think.

Ireland froze under the pressure. Andy didn’t sub Sexton (who was lethargic after 60), big names made mistakes or had a quiet game.
In the lead up, I found the Irish annoying (we want nz) (celebrating like champions)… Ireland have been #1 but failed when it mattered. NZ been there, done that.

The Irish are a well drilled team and play a lot better than the individuals in it. If you had a combined team there would be very few Irish players in it. I would have said their props and maybe a loose forward or two before this game but they didn't show up.

Ireland deserve their number 1ranking, they have won everything leading up to the quarterfinals. But quarterfinals is a different beast altogether. If Ireland were the better team, they should have beaten the All Blacks. But they didn't. The All Blacks were able to handle the pressure, that's why they beat you. If Ireland were the better team, how come you couldn't utilise the two yellow card, when AB's had only 14 players on the field. AB's won because they were mentally tougher and were defensively better on the night. They were also written off by everyone after the loss to S Africa and France. Even though we had two yellow cards and two Red with one being upgraded in both games. The S. Africa match had no bearing on the Rugby World Cup. But when comes to Semis rugby. Its all about mental and preparation. As for referee Barnes I thought he favoured the Irish team for allowing forward pass from James Lowe to Hansen leading to a try. And four other forward passes that weren't called by the officials.
A number of potential turnovers weren't called in the last set of phases. Ardie legit should have had one. There were neck rolls missed. Ireland just weren't good enough.
Funny thing. A lot of South Africans called the All Blacks beating Ireland. Although those same South Africans would say Ireland had the better team. The southern hemisphere has learnt over generations that you never ever underestimate the All Blacks. Never.
We've seen it all before, yes, self belief is good but when there is a bit too much self belief, so that it infringes on your respect for the All blacks, you gonna have problem. Ireland specifically choked when, once they had assessed they had under estimated the All Blacks, they couldn't calmly regroup and change gear. A gear that the whole world knows they had. If 'choking' is too harsh a term then try 'big match temperament'.
I'd argue that the series win in Ireland did them no favours in the world cup. It added that decisive little extra over-confidence and also did not take into account the revenge for that loss that the whole of new Zealand demanded. I don't believe it is possible to have a series win over the All Blacks and also beat them in a world cup cycle. It's one or the other. Strange as it sounds.
If the Springboks face them in the final and think they have one over them because of that historic-margin win at Twickenham then they will pay the price. Difference is that the springboks will have more respect for them.
Big tactical flop was O'Mahony calling Sam Cane a shit Richie. That man was focused. And yeah, we never but never disrespect the ABs. If we wanna win, we need to be willing to die to achieve it. That's what it will take.
Who in the Irish team disrespected the ABs or was overconfident? Sorry but that's just BS. For sure some Irish journalists and clowns in the Irish media or people at the games boozed up were talking a lot of crap, but I did not see any overconfidence from the people that took to the field. I might have missed it but I never saw anything but respect from the Irish team. And I know pretty much all the Irish people at home here that I know were very nervous about that game and knew for sure that it was going to be very difficult to get past the ABs.
The ABs and New Zealanders have earned the right to have a swagger and be cocky but that can also be a bit nauseating for others too so maybe it just depends who's side you're on.
A lot of nasty comments coming from people towards us Irish and in particular towards the Irish players now since the ABs have their mojo back. Maybe they'd be better off being a bit more gracious... move on and enjoy their own team vs the trash talking
I disagree with Ireland having another gear, they were simply up against an All Blacks side that had done their homework, that last defensive stand was the exclamation mark to an outstanding defensive display by a team that read everything that Ireland threw at them, the block runners, the round the corners, the pod formations and of course, Johnny, they just shut everything down with a system that was clearly conceived & executed to do just that.

The chip over the top for himself, by Johnny, after an earlier multiple phase period that was going nowhere, is another example of the hail Mary type of mentality that replaced the calm & precise type of thinking of previous games where the attack hadn't yet been worked out.
They played as well as they could against a side more determined than they were & who were better coached.

Social media platforms were absolutely full of Irish fans saying that Ireland were going to smash the All blacks, that it was Irelands time now, that the All Blacks had lost their aura etc etc, and yes, the Irish media and all of the Irish rugby podcasts wrote the All Blacks off, all of them predicted an Ireland win.
The players themselves were saying after the game that it hadn't occurred to them that they would be the ones going home.
Even today, Ireland media are saying things like, "Ireland were the better team, they just didn't playe to their full potential but we know that if they played this game 10 times, Ireland would win 6 of them..."

I saw some of the Irish players saying after the game that they hadn't thought about going home. These guys were very tired and emotional after losing the biggest game of their lives and you parse every word looking for signs of disrespect. If that's "disrespectful" to the ABs then FFS sounds like everyone needs speech writers now so as to make sure they don't say something that disrespects the ABs.
The first guy said it spot on. At any other given day Ireland would have beaten any other team with the same performance. But is the ABs mentally a fear of losing and the high expectations for themselves and from the New Zealand public and that's the driving force behind every games.

Ireland weren't allowed to play their game. Games like this are won with moments, All Blacks took theirs. You can put the shoe on the other foot and call out things that were stacked against the ABs- 14 men for 20 minutes being one. Bottom line is they outplayed Ireland. 2 amazing teams thrashing it out... There was also a mentality issue on the Irish side- an expectation of going all the way without being in today and earning each week. How the Irish speak vs how the AB's speak (and the media!) is totally different. All Blacks know the pain of being knocked out of world cups not having their heads in the right place and carrying the weight of expectation of the nation. Without sounding harsh, and I LOVE Ireland- there's still a lot of maturing to do. They will learn a lot from this!

this wasn't the peak of New zealands game, they came off of 2 losses, slowly building momentum unlike Irelands 17 win streak, NZ hasn't hit its straps, the only time i've seen a glimpse of it was Mount Smart stadium for that first 20, when we meet again Razor will be in charge and you will know what an in form ABs side looks like
Honestly, I reckon the damage is done. The New Zealand aura is broken. New Zealand will also have to reconsider their decision to bar anyone from playing if they play club rugby overseas.

We'll find out in a year with Razor in charge. Fact is this was one of the worst coached NZ teams and worst cycles in their history, and theyre in a world cup semifinal. Says a lot about the talent pool. I wont be surprised to see 2015 levels of dominance again next year with the new coaching setup.

Ireland is nearly good enough. 17 wins on the trot is impressive but I suspect quarter final pressure was too much! The referee criticism is without merit. Think it was 3-3 on penalty count in that final phase, and we seem to forget that Barnesy sent off TWO nz players. Ireland played against for 14 men for 60 minutes and still failed to capitalise on that. Look inward.

Ireland played as well as the ABs allowed them to play. Same goes the other way round. Really quite disrespectful saying Ireland would have won if they played their best and that the ABs played their best. Very arrogant.
The AB's took away the Irish options - their scrum, their lineout and their breakdowns. I still think that the Irish seemed very tired mentally and because all the good options were so hard to find they lacked the ability to think through the last few minutes. It was all about playing with pressure and then being under more pressure, they needed o be clearer mentally. I think the real depth of the Irish will be how they recover from this. If they don't face their real deficiencies they will never win the RWC.

You make more mistakes under pressure. The fact that some of you don't understand that is phenomenal. The All Blacks put Ireland under pressure. That caused mistakes. The occasion was secondary. Take the blinkers off for a moment. Ireland didn't expect what they got. NZ shook them. It's not rocket science.
Pressure, that's why they didn't win. The All Blacks disrupted them and they couldn't respond sufficiently to prevail. Jason Ryan is the diamond in their coaching set up.
Pressure playing for Ireland is one thing, pressure playing for the All Blacks is on another level. The Irish lads lost and are rightly being lauded as a great team, if the All Blacks had lost they would have been absolutely roasted at home.
I think Ireland were thinking about the winning the world cup going into the tournament instead of planning to win the quarter final first. They were expecting the All Blacks to roll over and crack under pressure like how the All Black did in the two tests in NZ. This is a knock out competition not a test series where you have a chance to fix a lost. In saying that, Ireland is on track to win their first quarter final in the next world cup and beyond. Take this lost on the chin and move on.

How many opportunities does a #1team in the world need at a RWC quarter final? Two yellow cards? In a world cup? Ireland took there chances. Gibson Park scored when Arron Smith got a yellow card. Ireland handed a penalty try. Cody Taylor's yellow carded. Ireland had 20 minutes when the AB's were playing 14 men. Ireland only managed to score the same amount of tries given 20 minutes to add more but did not take advantage. Why? The AB players made sure they didn't. The AB's are psychologically experieced in RWC scenarios. No other team/nation has ever been ranked #1 and overwhelming favourites as the AB's coming into a RWC. To go through a losing RWC as a team ranked #1 and favourites over 25 yrs gives them the unenviable position of "what ifs" but they experienced the humility for that long places you in where that unbelieveable pressure to adjust mentally to get you through whatever comes at you.
Considering NZ were down to 14 men for a quarter of the game Ireland really fell short. They were so confident before the match, verging on arrogant, I think some complacency to the field.

You learn from these experiences so you dont have what ifs that you now have spent an hour discussing. ABs were the better team on the day, put pressure on Ireland into making mistakes and knew when to make their moves. World Cup failures prepared the ABs. Ireland didnt suffer that kind of pain in relation to expectations (ABs always expected to win with being the best for the majority of time). Ireland now have tasted it after a few years of being on top, it will be interesting to see how they respond and come back from it.

Thought I'd tune in to see how the game is being reviewed by this lot. Especially after their pre-game show. As expected, denial, deflecting, looking for excuses, clutching at straws, the list goes on.
It took Ireland 111 years to win their first game against the ab's. It's now 36 years of rwc tournaments and Ireland still can't get out of the quarters. Be careful lads, the second number might mirror the first if your lot doesn't start having real hard reviews on your teams performance.
The Irish scrum failed because your man Porter was boring in and he was getting caught out. After the third infringement you would have thought Barnes would have sent him for a 10min rest. The lineout options were predictable. The breakdown were contested and your boys couldn't cope. The back door plays were telegraphed and readable. Barnes refs in your competition so to suggest your boys couldn't read or understand his interpretation is laughable. The 20mins playing against 14 men helped Ireland's stats look better than what they probably would have been if they were playing against even numbers. But it also makes Ireland look average that they couldn't win a game with a massive handicap.
Since you suggest your team have the better players (I don't agree). I guess the saying 'A champion team, always beats a team of champions' is appropriate at this time. I saw warriors from both teams go head to head and duke it out for 83mins. The warriors in black prevailed as expected IMO. However, I also saw sea of zombies in green rushing for the exit after the game. Just a heads up, Justin Marshall isn't the greatest source for anything rugby in NZ.

An awful lot of words when an underperforming Ireland team were 4 points away from beating an overperforming AB side and equalling an 18 match unbeaten run only ever achieved once by us AB's. Ireland are the best team in the world atm undoubtedly and as you should know being a fellow kiwi, the best team in the world doesn't guarantee anything sure but that Ireland team beats us 7 out of 10 games and I don't want to hear another 'eh when it counts' you know like I do how much it meant to us loosing our test series in our backyard so save it... I feel for the Irish as I grew up with us underachieving in WC's in spite of us playing the best footy and being the best sports team on the planet not just best rugby team. 'eh, when it counts' - Sam Cane made important tackles when it counted. Ardie competed at the ruck when it counted. Lomax put pressure on the scrum when it counted. I think Ireland were probably the better team; sadly their strategy hasn't changed enough and the ABs came up with a plan to negate them.
We left Sexton alone, created a wall in the centre of the park and gave them the outside. It was a trap though. As soon as the ball was moved to the outside there were 'shooters' ready to push up hard. It was brilliant move by the ABs. If it was almost any other tema it would have been a 30 point win.
Ireland still almost won.

Rewind to 2013 in the Aviva Stadium and Johnny Sexton missed a similar penalty in a very similar game where the All Blacks went four minutes overtime to score the winning try and conversion.

Countries that have found their identity and play to that as their strength seem to find constant success. France, flair/passion. South Africa, power/strangulation. Australia(of old), IQ/never say die. England, grind/take the points. NZ, exceptional skill/history. Once Ireland figure what makes them tick culturally and translate it into a playing style they'll be onn.

It was a very fast-paced game for a solid 80 plus minutes. After losing to France, All Blacks were playing knock out games from the start of the Cup. ABs dug really deep and delivered. Ireland can learn some very valuable lessons from this game. Dan Carter wrote about the 2007 loss, which outlines to take 1 game at a time, not thinking about the Final at the QF.
IRE can be proud of their performance. I do not feel sorry for them though because I find IRE graceless and lacking sacred honour. So, goodbye.

It's simple we don't have enough depth. We had a tougher run up to the quarter final than they did. Ideally we should've rested key players for the Scotland game. It's not always just about physical tiredness a fresh head can be just as important.

Sexton was gassed at 30 minutes. Farrell should have subbed Sexton after 50 minutes. Maybe he tried and Sexton told him to Eff off? He was on dead legs in the last minutes; no threat at all. Ireland's pod attack was figured out. Their obstruction ahead of the ball was nullified by the ABs picking off the man behind, enabled by Sexton being no running threat. Ireland haven't evolved their game in the last 2 years and got figured out. Set piece was poor from Ireland. Also the ABs gave them zero scrum put ins. ABs did as much as they had to do. They were happy to defend.
Out planned . ABs did not make a forward pass or knock on, Ireland never got a scrum put in. The ABs won the scrum by playing straight up winning the ball and the ref saw Ireland as seeking to mess things up.
All the commentators had written off a substandard ABs who focussed on the key game. The whole country wanted Ireland to be dealt to after their arrogance and downright obnoxious behaviour on the tour of NZ.
Making a point of abusing the AB captain was unforgiveable in our eyes. We were not asking for a world cup but just a win against Ireland.
The boys did the job we wanted most.
Ireland didn’t play well, didn’t deliver because the ABs made it so. It’s a pressure cooker and how you manage yourself as an individual and as a team both physically and mentally.
Bottom line is Ireland cracked under pressure regardless about whether they played at their best. If they wanted to play at their best then might as well play Romania again. Stay humble even when you lose boys 😂
Ireland have less resources than springbok, you got rid of Kleyn, you have Ultan Dillane languishing in France, Buckley in Galway. You trust a small group of players and focus of them . That's the problem. Broaden your pool and trust them . That's what south africa is good at. MAPIMPI Couldn't catch a ball in 2017 but they trusted him and kept investing in him . Our side of the draw was just impossibly packed, with the finest of margins between the teams. I think Ireland deserved their world # 1 ranking on the back of consistency, experience, clinical phase play (takes years to establish Ireland's approach), exceptional kicking, and Johnny Seton's cerebral mastery of the game (that took over a decade to build). It is understandable that Irish critics and fans have been conditioned into having a winning expectation for their team but I don't accept they have the highest ceiling of the top 4 teams - which is what a knock out tournament is about. Clearly when the AB's get it right - the game can be beautiful and brutally efficient; when South Africa bully you, win the air, and kick their goals they can beat everyone, and when France get it right they are 'magnifique') . Style makes fights, and given both Ireland and the AB's want to play a continuity game, there will be more 50/50's or contestable moments at the breakdown - and for me, the AB's clearly won that battle - which was not expected given our most recent encounters (Sam Cane take a bow!). I think the AB's on balance were just better on the night - both teams played well - scrambled, and defended errors. I'm absolutely shocked that the Irish are not talking about the AB's discipline following an error, or defending after 2 yellow cards and a penalty try (which many fans of the game have seen refereed differently).
These Irish critics are brutally analysing the loss - which can lose a balanced perspective when you are silent to the AB's. A similarly deep critical dive to analyse the All Blacks might say something like this. 1) Aki's try should had been stopped by a 'sliding d' that had good numbers in the frame - but that takes away from Bundee's brilliance. 2) Gibson Park's try should have been stopped - All Blacks didn't prioritise coming off the line, and stopping the ball carrier - but that takes away from the GP's competitive instincts and belief. I wont talk about Barnes refereeing because I don't think, on balance, that Ireland were prejudicially treated - in fact there is a very strong argument that the impact of some referring decisions fell incredibly harshly on the AB's.
The game is a battle of inches, it is about defending mistakes, taking opportunities, discipline, and creating pressure. And in a game that ebbed and flowed, the AB's narrowly won (rightly imo) in a game many have described as the best QF in 10 tournaments. Ireland is a champion team, that now has to process the heartbreak of not meeting their own lofty, and sometimes unreasonable expectations. These current All Blacks are playing like they are defending a legacy - how else to you defend a world record 37 phases to close out a titanic game? I think the final is a coin toss, so it might just be a classic. Here's hoping both sides play to their potential.

I can only hope that Ireland don't do what England did after they won the 2003 world cup and not carry on the great form with great coaching and great players they just went downhill. They need to do what the other great teams do, example South Africa and New Zealand and start planning for the next one. Because if you go on from here how you performed you have a great chance of going all the way...

Stats published in telegraph showed Ireland were by some distance the team with the most play time per individual player. NZ had 1 player who played over 240 minutes vs 8 for Ireland. SA have 0 players having played over 240 minutes
