He developed the wrap-around style that Leinster/Ireland use so much and he knew how to neutralise it. Credit to the AB's for doing so.

Great performance. The All Blacks stood off the rucks and intentionally didn't bring any real linespeed. This allowed them to put in big double hits and then get in over the ball. Ireland also rely on defences shooting up as it leaves gaps to exploit with their passing game. The all blacks cracked their attack.
Despite that, Ireland, somehow, still couldve won that game and I definitely feel the ABs hit 100% whist quite a few Irish players had off games (in part because of the ABs monster performance). The same game plan will not work against the Boks though, so theyll have to switch things up again.

Yeah I noticed there was no linespeed, whatsoever from NZ. It looked like a definite ploy hence they got a lot of turnovers. I also think they were worried about there behind the back balls with the options of the inside ball, front man, or out the back so the ABs kind of shot up then stopped and waited to see who was getting the ball then made the tackles. The ABs compressed there defence too so they had the likes of the midfield, Aki, Ringrose with Sexton making the plays for Keenan out the back etc covered with the short passes, and deliberately left space out wide for the likes of Lowe and Hansen. Then NZ would use there speed to get across. Definitely Joe Schmidt had a lot to do with these tactics. The ABs game plan was specific for this Irish team. Some Irish players were off due to not having it all there own way. The ABs took them to a place they weren't use too and how often in pressure games does it start playing with your mind. Things you do very well 100% of the time starts to unravel all of a sudden. It's all mental. World Cup knockouts are very much a mental game. It's who deals with it best and it was the ABs slightly! It will be diff game plan against the Argies..

It’s interesting that every pod, every analyst is looking at the same 3 things why Ireland lost.
The Jordie Barrett held up, the “easy” Jordan try. The Johnny miss.
What is ignored is, Ireland took their opportunities, I could equally think of half a dozen things the ABs did which prevented them from a blowout.
Not enough credit is given to how instinctual the AB style is. The Jordan try is a classic example. Ritchie reading what was in front of him and forcing the indecision and setting up the try. That is created. Beauden’s chips.
    The ABs played with precision.
People talk about the last 2-3 years and the ABs being poor. The ABs have been mixing and chopping their team up due to a number of factors.
However the best results have been since Jordie has been at 12. What many don’t know is he played 12 for Canterbury and had he stayed with the Crusaders would have stayed a 12. Unfortunate for the ABs that we wasted the best part of 4 years playing him in the wrong position.
Also not to totally discredit Ireland, but they got some calls in NZ to win that series. Dunedin 2 yellows and a red card. Then Porter? broke Brodies eye socket with a terrible high head contact and got yellow. They should never have won that series against a poor ABs team in poor form (and they still were close). The only thing that series did was bolster self belief which actually made them better.
The only thing I can say is thank you to Ireland, those results have forced Jordie back to 12, focused the selections and sharpened the ABs. They will be hard to beat now.

There were only 4 points separated the teams, like I said this was an extremely close game that could have went either way the slight difference was New Zealand held out Ireland's attack that separated the teams and is the reason New Zealand won in one of the greatest games of rugby I've ever seen

Since then they have been e seriously competitive and AB fans now cant take any result for granted.

      @paulkirby2761 8 месяцев назад

Another clueless twit. No one was "swaggering around". Ireland were unbeaten in 17 matches or something like that, deservedly so. During that period they beat every top side in the world and in some cases twice including NZ in their own back yard and went on to bag a 6 nations title against a top French side via a grand slam. But they showed every team they played big respect and part of this success was attributed to staying humble and grounded, not getting carried away or ahead of themselves.
This WC draw was sht, we all know it and sadly 2 of the top teams were going out in the quarters. One team was Ireland by just 4 points who turned down 6 points from the boot and also took a miracle save by Barrett to get under the Irish maul when they'd crossed the NZ line yet again, and France went out by a single point.
Both matches went right to the final whistle. Ireland beat SA in this WC and France beat NZ. Easily it could have been 2 losses or 2 wins for any of those 4 teams. But don't be talking shht like any of these teams comfortably won or had an edge.
And no btw @those talking bollox about a NZ masterclass. They were good in pockets, but let's not overlook that Bundi and Gibson-Park just casually ran in tries completely unchallenged. That's not exactly a masterclass in defence then is it.
Personally I massively enjoyed those 4 teams playing each other and think it's wonderful that we now have such competitive rugby between top teams, nothing between them, can all bear each other, so drop the "They got what they deserved!" and "southern hemisphere teams are just better" and "they were too cocky" bullshit narrative and just show some love for the game and respect to all these great sides, because anything less only reflects poorly on you.

All this bollex now being brought up about world rankings etc…guess what, Ireland were the first team to say they mean nothing. Why..because they know all too well after the Tokyo WC. Other fans are going on like 17 test match wins in a row meant nothing - well in that case we wouldn’t have a sport. Fans need not bother attending any games bar WC games according to some moronic comments here. This is the best Ireland team we ever had and fans are allowed get excited and dare to dream. Well done ABs. SOME of your fans could learn a little humility though. There’s certainly a clear entitlement there - maybe it comes with your years of success. Thankfully, there’s South Africa to keep you all level headed…..

They needed everything to go perfect just to be in with a chance.. even in a meaningless test match. They also had to hope that NZ had a bad day at the office. Not any more. We may have lost. But times have definitely changed. Almost a complete roll reversal in fact. They may need to go back to the drawing board yet again. But they will. And it will not be going back to how it used to be any time soon. So you enjoy your 4 point win... Your arrogant "Ireland know your place" doesn't work any more. 100% in everything you mentioned especially the part where you must not think of the outcome when you play these WC knockouts. So many teams in these tournaments get too obsessed about getting to the next stage, with Ireland leading into this match, it doesn't help when you constantly have the media, ex players, you name it banging the drum about them never making it past the quarter final, now this is the team to do it bla bla bla against an AB team of recent years and hasn't been to the standard of yesteryear. Hate to say it, I feel the Irish felt that pressure a little bit, just some of them missed opportunities you saw from them, which hasn't happened. For Eg, the Doris knock on from the dropout. Sexton missing that penalty. Early on in the game with them back to back penalties at the break down and that pass from Hugo Keanan that misfired and went behind James Lowe then he got bundled into touch, this was when Ireland got into the 22 for the first time. The ABs came out and played like it was a rugby championship match. Almost with nothing to lose, they were written off and then just brought a real intensity in a way where they felt almost insulted by the chat of them not even a contender by many of the journalists etc. Moral of the story is, never write off the ABs. They targeted this game 12 months ago. No other game. Just this. There enlies the difference..

Yep Kiwis won the game at breakdown in style and they played it brilliantly for sure, and Sam Cane had everything in his loose forward position on the night and was outstanding. Good for him to prove POMahony wrong. They say the way to do it is through your actions not your mouth. I've heard said that NZ were like players possessed, and I donlt agree, they just played with precision clinically, energised, went to another level and with a great game plan well executed. If Ireland had done that we would've used these same words not the word 'possessed'. Ireland hadn't energy to match them. Loved the way Foster said after game that he felt 'calm' - Sure didn't we all feel 'calm' after that game and not devastated, when we knew the wheels were bound to come off the wagon sooner or later, if Farrell kept playing the same players for every game. I bet you Farrell felt 'calm' too as he never stops preaching it! Sure that is the English motto and way - 'Stay Calm and Carry On' ! His English nation live by it, so his philosophy isn't anything original its more like a long record he keeps playing. i only feel sorry for the Irish players but then they don't select the team to play for a match.
