Ladies and gentlemen, I just want to put a quick pinned comment in here regarding some of the discrepancies that have been pointed out since this video was published. Here goes:
    - There is a part 2 to this mini video series where a lot of discrepancies are addressed. You can check it out here (highly recommend you do): ruclips.net/video/zBZwaFBjLR0/видео.html
    - To find your userconfig file, please check the description section of the video as there are paths there that might help you find your file location
    - PLEASE ENSURE YOU TURN IMAGE SCALING 'OFF' IN THE NVC. THE ADVISE IN THE VIDEO WAS MISGUIDED IN THAT REGARD!
Do let me know if you have any more questions, as I continue to answer your comments on a regular basis. Thanks for watching guys, and thanks for Flying By!

I can say without any doubt that the combination of increased performance and improved graphic output I have seen since trying out the settings today is astonishing! This is the biggest single improvement I have seen in the sim since I started using it two years ago. Amazing! After just a half-hour of tweaking, its like I'm using a monster PC or an entirely different sim. Certainly an eye-opening experience.

This is a pretty good guide and I appreciate your tinkering abilities. After following fs2020 simmers and q8pilot I noticed that my decent pc was suffering with low fps, stutters etc. They were essentially providing advice that was not helping me. In fact, one of the channels used your advice on A.filtering and setting it to 16x in the NVCP vs the sim. Funny that it happened after you made a video. Good work here. I agree with the philosophy that less is more. Their advice (I should have known better) was not helpful for me. Instead, I reset everything to default and high performance and I get my FPS back. So again, thank you. I appreciate when people like you take the time and are honest about their PC and results. Not all of us have ridiculous monster computers.

Thank you so much! My PC now runs MSFS 2020 as smooth as silk with fantastic clarity! My system is a scratch-built PC (8 years old), Intel i7 with 16MB RAM and an Nvidia 3060 with 12MB RAM running the latest driver and using 4K resolution. The two tweaks using the Nvidia control panel worked wonders without any fuss.
FYI: I went through the 2020 FSER's RUclips channel that made countless changes to the Windows settings and the Nvidia control panel which gave my system severe stuttering.
For the first time since MSFS 2020 was released, I can fully enjoy the sim without building a new PC nor purchasing another graphic card!
    Thanks again!!!!!!

after about 4 months of unexpected simulator crashes 2 hours into flights, and noticing terrible stuttering, THIS was the video that made everything better. I suppose my only "cosmetic" complaint, and i guess it's more of a nuance and that can be adjusted personally, is the sharpness on some buildings. even then though, this actually helped me spot a runway in foggy conditions MUCH easier (I live in new england and tried to fly with the forest fires), which I suppose is more realistic. i never realized how much ambient occlusion was destroying how immersed I could be in this simulator.

  • @chaxef

I have to say thanks a million for this settings guide. I followed your settings to the T (dialing back on the discrepancies :)) and have been slowly adjusting back to where I was except for a few very important changes to improve the sharpness and overall quality as suggested by you. I suffered greatly from lag and stuttering and the real change for me happened in the Nvidia control panel anisotropic filter change. A literal game changer. Many thanks!

I don't use to comment on videos, but I'm in the required to post on this awesome master piece... I've been strugleging with my MFS tryng to reach the best quality/performance settings and I've failed many times, from getting a error message from MFS that there was no memory available from unexpected quits. But today I think that a found the saint grail of MFS settings explanation and already I have two hours of flyng with an a exceptional quality/perfomance experience since I started flying on MFS2020... I have a gaming laptop with a i5 12th gen CPU, a RTX 3050, 500GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM. Also I have to say that the main changes were in Windows settings, NVIDIA Control Panel and general configuration in MFS such as all above Global Rendering Quality setting.
    Thank you so much! ✈🎊

I don’t often comment but today your settings guide has transformed my sim - with both stunning visual and performance improvements. It’s not often in life where you get both. Thank you so much. I had been battling to get my sim into a sweet spot and you’ve nailed it. I would like to say that I ended up turning off the global image rescaling as my screen is 1440p and turning it on produced some shimmering / anti aliasing issues which didn’t look right. Turning off the resizing in the nvidia control panel did not affect the performance and kept the visuals looking phenomenal.

I'm not overrating, but this is the best setting optimization guide I've found on the hole internet so far! It really feels like you know what you're talking about and it really helped improving my FPS while keeping a really decent quality. After that I also tweaked a few settings (as you recommended) like the shadow mapping and a few more and now it looks even more beautiful. I do not have the greatest PC (Ryzen 7 5800X, RX 6700XT, 32GB of 3600MH-CL16 RAM (2x16), a 2TB SSD from Kingston with 7000MB of reading and writing speed), but it is definitely in the mid-range and enough for those settings in the flight sim even though it is really performance hungry. I always thought you need a real high-end graphics card (like RX 7900XT(X) or even higher), but after this well-structured and really helpful guide I realized, that you don't even need that high settings to make the sim look this beautiful or if you want to have them maxed don't need such a powerful GPU if you know, where to tweak settings (and where not to). Thank you again for this really awesome guide!!! I hope you keep making this good videos. Good luck with your chanel and have fun! :)

I was amazed at your specs which are not as high as mine, this gave me some hope 😊. My rig is i9-10700k, RTX 3070, not really a beast but powerful enough to run in 4k. I followed your settings to the letter but tweaked some higher such as building details etc. I have to say things do look better than they did, especially at high altitude. Many people have told me you need a monster PC to play MSFS in 4k but that is not the case at all. If I play the game with the above setting it would run the GPU at 220 watts and about 73 - 75`c which is a bit toasty (and noisy). What I do is cap the frame rate to 40 fps in Nvidia control panel (in program settings for MSFS) and this keeps the GPU at about 100 - 170 watts and 62 - 65`c. I think 40 fps is plenty for this game.

I had some screen jitter at first, but I deleted my rolling cache and jitter gone. Most importantly, cities that have poor photogrammetry, such as London UK, improved by 80-90%. London used to continuously show melted buildings and transformer trees no matter how many times you flew over, but these settings also corrected that issue. You have a new sub and no doubt your channel will surpass 100k. Keep 'em coming and thanks again!

Such an excellent comprehensive guild , thank you so much . My experience : if I turned off the HAGS, I found the FPS in DCS in VR decreased to 24-27 from 36-40, that is , DCS in VR almost became unplayable. My system is Ryzen 7 5800 3D , 3080 , G2 and 48gb ram . I am aware that HAGS can cause all sorts of problems , such as the issue with open XR toolkit . However in my system for some reason the HAGS increases FPS and decreases stuttering in DCS in VR . Strange .

Brilliant work. Comprehensive but simple. It hasn't helped my severe stutters since Update 11 came along, but it has vastly improved my Display quality. Massive improvement, though fps remains about the same at 45-50 fps.
The best part of all your work is that you have gone to the trouble to explain what each setting actually does, and I haven't seen anyone else do that, so I will continue to tweak settings now with more knowledge now of what they actually do within the sim.
I could not find the "UserConfig.opt" file anywhere on my system. Searched the whole of my C drive SSD, and my D drive "Scratch" SSD ( which had remnants of the many previous MSFS re-installations I have done. ) I download from MS each time ( takes about 6-8 hours as my cable internet here in Sydney is slowish at 50mbps), and I seem to need to do it every 3 months.
But alas, the stutters are still with me. I always run MSFS in Admin mode to remove other programs and updates butting in, I have removed the Rolling Cache entirely, and removed many programs from the "startup" list. Nothing really helps. All my drivers are right up to date, I have repasted the CPU and GPU, re-filled the AIO chamber etc. I undervolt the GPU a little to keep temps down and remove any chance of throttling, and have set a temperature limit of 80 degrees C on the GPU. Nothing gets rids of those damn stutters. Up until Update 9 or 10, I never had them at all.
I agree that TAA is better than DLSS 2, and with most of your reasoning on other matters , though I am certainly no expert like you and not qualified to agree or disagree.
My system : Ryzen 7-5800X, Nvidia RTX 3080 (OEM version not FE), 3 x 2tb SSD, 1 x 8TB HDD, MSI X570S Max Wifi motherboard, ! x 32inch Xaimo curved monitor running at 144mhz refresh rate , and 1 x old crappy 12 inch moniitor for diagnostic and monitoring programs and ATC and Nav sub-menus.

Thank you so much for sharing the settings you use for MSFS! This has been so helpful to me with a 6800xt. I noticed that I was lacking some of the quality of textures especially some of the clouds with that grainy look. But these settings have helepd. I tweaked these a little bit, trading some things for others, for example setting "glass cockpit refresh rate" to high and making a few other graphics tweaks that are amd related. I also recommend setting the frame rate limit to only around 30 - 60 fps, since you really don't need anything higher than that for a sim! Doing this stopped my gpu from trying to push to 144 fps in turn this stopped some stuttering on the ground I was experiencing during densely populated airports.

It should be noted, that if you amend settings by editing a file, that you should make the file read only so the sim doesn’t apply changes when you make further settings using the sim. Also, locking the file will cause file updates with subsequent updates to the sim. I really don’t like this type of tweet for these reasons.

A lot good tips here. However I'm glad you said it would be specific to each system. Things got worse for me when I started setting similar settings to your system. I have an RTX 3080 gaming Trio card. An I9 processor and 32 gigs of RAM. I also have my flight Sim installed on a dedicated 1 TB SSD hard disk. I find that using DirectX 12 with my dlss on is much better. Everything is smoother and everything looks so much more realistic when it comes to the textures. I am using a 40 inch Vizio gaming TV for my primary monitor at 4K HDR. When trying to change some of the settings to match yours things got way worse for me. Everything looked grainy and the stutters went way up. So the only thing I don't agree with in your video is that unless you have a 4090 the dlss is not good. I disagree with that. But a lot of good other tips in your video.

In my experience the one thing that makes the largest difference, especially when you come to denser areas, is that you have everything running on an SSD. I had it running on my C drive, but I ran out of room and had to move to to my D drive. My C is SSD, but my D is HDD. It's a fast HDD, but still it makes an incredible difference. I noticed immediately my framerates dropping down to 30fps in some cases where it's really dense. I have an i7-9700k (not OC), with an RTX-3060ti (OCd slightly - not even enough to need to undervolt) and 32GB dual channel RAM. So my system specs are almost identical - aside from the card - and I can match the visuals, but the framerate takes a nosedive where there is a lot of detail. Flying over the desert near Sedona AZ is beautiful and I'm getting 66fps (my monitor is not the greatest and has a low framerate, so 66 is probably the best it's going to get). Flying over LAX and I get 30fps. I do have added content for the LAX area, so that might be contributing, but I see the same frame drop in other areas where I don't have add-on content for.

I have a Barracuda 2TB HDD drive that is plenty fast at 7200RPM. When I run it on a decent SSD (870 EVO 2TB) I see max 20% usage. My frame rates went from about 30fps with an HDD to about 80fps with the SSD. It was almost a three fold improvement. Don't get me wrong - your card is going to be the most bang for the buck, but if you are getting stuttering especially while entering dense areas then you might want to look at your storage situation.

      Corsair 5000D case
Corsair iCUE H150i RGB Elite CPU cooler
Lian li AL240 fans (7 total)
      G.Skill Z5 DDR5 RAM (2 x 32GB)
      EVGA 1300W power supply
      Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4090
      Samsung 2TB 980 SSD (M.2)
The details: this machine is a dedicated flight simulator. My friend and I have known each other for 42 years, and he's been previously certified both for fixed wing and helicopters. We originally were flying the Apple ][ version of subLogic's Flight Simulator in 1981 before Microsoft acquired it for the first MSFS in 1982. He has two different simulator rooms at his place of business. The "good one" uses three Samsung curved 65" LCD 4K TVs are primary displays. It also features a Yoko yoke, Saitek Pro switch panel and Cessna trim wheel and the Saitek Pro throttle for Cessnas. He has another throttle/flaps control for heavy jets but I can't remember who made it, nor can I remember who made the pedal controls on the pilot side. Finally in the co-pilot seat he has a CH Products Thunderstick (helicopters) and a CH Products Flightstick Pro and CH Products pedals. He also has a custom built overhead panel using a Leo Bodnar USB board but it isn't programmed right and I promised I'd help him with it. He uses a few iPads as secondary displays (Air Manager 4 and other tools).
The new rig replaces one I built for him six years ago with a Intel 6850 Xeon, 32 GB of RAM and dual GTX 1080 cards running SLI. That machine was lucky to run X-Plane 10 or 11 at 25 fps at 3 screen 4K resolution and often much less than that in complicated areas. This new machine easily runs X-Plane 12 at 30 fps which most of the graphics settings turned way up. We're still trying to get 3 screens working on FS2020 WU11...I'll try again in a few days when I see him again. We just installed this machine yesterday so there are still some minor issues to solve.
The choices of the hardware were pretty basic. ASUS makes great motherboards and we got the best that we could get our hands on (the Extreme version was out of stock at the time). The Intel CPU was tops in class. The memory was tops in class. The SSD was almost tops in class but we couldn't get the newer Samsung 990 in time. The choice of the Gigabyte RTX 4090 was mainly because that was one we could get our hands on due to the current shortages. And yes, we overpaid for it.

    • @Sevenfeet0
      @Sevenfeet0 Год назад

@@FlyBySimulations Another update: I went over to my friend's studio again to get a few things working that I didn't have time to finish before, most notable three monitors on FS2020. This time due to some RUclips videos I'd seen on the subject, the process was a lot easier and it didn't take long to get three 4K TVs going, at 4K resolution with the RTX 4090. The only real tweak was adjusting the zoom setting to 70 to even out everything.
The goal for FS2020 was to get it working at about 30 fps through most flight scenarios. And it actually worked! We used the Nvidia graphics suggestions for FS2020 which were pretty close to what I had originally done including DLSS3 at "Performance", Terrain objects at "350" which is very hard to do and pretty much "ULTRA" on everything else. And then we chose the Discovery flight through Manhatten/New York City since the buildings are a good torture test. And wouldn't you know, it pretty much kept 28-32 fps throughout the flight. So we decided to do DLSS3 - QUALITY and try again. This was a little tougher but again, we saw mostly 28-31 fps with occasional dips to 23-25. But this was excellent for my friend's needs and we choose to keep it at QUALITY since the performance hit was minimal under most conditions. And it looks absolutely gorgeous.
I'm sure there are other tweaks we can do and I'm sure the drivers and FS2020's use of the drivers will get better. Right now, the worst I saw of use of G-RAM was about 8.3 GB on a 24 GB graphics card. So is a RTX 4090 worth it? Absolutely YES.
