    ‼️PLEASE READ‼️
Apparently I may have not had my Bigscreen Beyond not setup correctly which may have affected tracking. That could be a factor too 🤔
I just realised one of the scores were doubled up 😭😭😭 Here's all the actual results for those curious imgur.com/a/eijh4r7
I really wanted to play Beat Saber on EVERY actual headset but it became way too hard! My poor Valve Index is broken but figured the Bigscreen Beyond would have similar results (if not better).
What's your favorite headset for Beat Saber?

Naysy it’s ok. But I do have a tip for quest 3! There is one mod that allows you when you record a video to make it look like a pc! It’s called replay! It does take a few adjustments tho! But when you’re recording it looks exactly like a pc! If you’re going to use it as your daily driver, you should consider this option! The MR is a bit better with this option. From my testing it does seem to work perfect. You can get all pc graphics! And MR avatar is possible too! Okay that’s it! 🤣

      - They're not the only one, so that's an untrue statement
      - The second sentence on the Pro Controllers' product page literally says they're compatible, and so many RUclipsrs have said as much since they launched.
      - Ultimately, nothing was actually learned, and no conclusions were made - and they didn't even test everything in working order, and they didn't control for a bunch of things. Not resting properly between each session is a huge fail, for example.
This video was terrible science, nothing was learned, and no new information was communicated. I'm glad I watched it at 2.5x speed, and skipped a lot of the fluff.

as someone currently playing in beatsaber world cup, most of it comes down to controller grip, and tracking. gip obviously changes how well the player can swing, how fast etc, but most controllers have a relatively comfortable grip once you compensate with saber settings. then there is tracking. for tracking, the most accurate is index/ steam vr tracking. that does not necessarily mean it is the best in all cases though. since the tracking is so accurate on the index, the headset does not overcompesate on the swing angle, which means you need to swing much wider and much more controller than lets say the quest 1. once accounting for the heavier controllers, it makes sense why you did the worst with the valve knuckles as it takes a lot more stamina and force than other headsets. then there are headsets like the quest one and pro (at least on release) which both had extremely inaccurate tracking compared to steamvr. this inaccurate tracking actually means that the swings overcompensate a lot and you can add an extra 30%-50% on your swing angle (on faster maps). this makes these headsets better for speed maps and challenge maps. however this also means you will probably have a hard time with accuracy since the sabers arent quite going in the same spot as your hand. in my experience the rift s and quest 2 have similar levels of compensation (quest 2 at 120hz) that is high enough to let players play fast maps without having their arms die within the first minute, while still being consistent enough to be able to compensate for the slight inaccuracies.
    in conclusion: it really depends.
if you are super confident about your strength and stamina, go for the index or anything that can use the valve knuckles. if you don't think you will make it to super high level, but still want to pass fast maps then go for the quest one, quest pro or quest 2(80hz). if you want to get the best all around but only for beatsaber, then go for the original oculus rift, I don't know why but its the highest quality tracking oculus headset but it still has controllers much lighter than the knuckles and with many more options for grips with better centre of balances.

    • @SwainixFPV
      @SwainixFPV 3 месяца назад

I've been looking around the internet but I didn't find a clear answer but maybe you know: I am playing with the Rift S that I rarely see mentionned anymore, is the tracking rate just lower than the other more modern options? When the slicing patterns start really accelerating around the 6.5/7 notes per second I feel like the tracking just isn't fast enough and I can see the saber refreshrate just moving my wrist up and down in lobbies or in maps, is this normal lol

    • @mathslap
      @mathslap 3 месяца назад +1

@@SwainixFPV yes, I played on the rift s for a while and since it only has an 8hz refresh rate, it does also only track at 80hz compared to other headsets reaching 90,120,144 etc.. but I can say that it is still more accurate than the guest 2 or 3 since they have a bit more input delay because of usb compression. Whether thats good or bad is up to you since you do get more precise swings on rift s at the trade off of the wider swing angles on quest 2, plus the overall somewhat jittery-ish look that you get on the rift s.
One more way to improve the unaccurate looking swings is to also just have smoother swings like someone like electrostats for example, though that takes a long while and by the time I learned that I had already moved on from my rift s.

@@mathslap Do you mean 8Hz refresh rate for the controllers or was it a typo and you meant 80Hz just like the screen refresh rate? If it was 8Hz it would make a lot of sense, but then surely getting new controllers to work with the headset would make a huge improvement

I was surprised with my scores when I got my Quest 3. I was playing on the Quest version at first and got new high scores. Thinking that was just because it was better then the Q2, I tried it with the Q3 on the Steam version using Virtual Desktop. I would have figured there would be extra latency, but again I got some new high scores. My conclusion was that the lighter controllers had a lot to do with it. Glad you may have had the same thought. Loved the comparison, I've been curious how it would shake out. Thanks

I really wanted to like VD but for some reason it makes beat saber unplayable on my quest 3. My pc is good enough to run beat saber just fine, wired in yields best results but the battery dies so quickly connected to my pc. So I'd use air link and plug it into the wall but it had noticeable latency issues. Then I bought VD to see if that would help and by far that was the worst performance. I've played around with the settings, looked up videos and guides, etc but I couldn't get it to work right. I kept trying for the first two weeks the quest 3 was out and gave up on VD after that

@@lolno98 You are probably overlooking the most important factor that has nothing to do with your PC and headset which is your network setup. It's critical that you have a good router and cable connection from PC to your router to achieve a good quality wireless connection. Most ISP routers just dont cut it. VD discord has a list of good routers. Wifi is very prone to any interference, besides good router you also need to configure it to use a clean channel.
That said, even on best setup you will still have 20-40ms latency on Quest and it's just inherent to Quest PCVR. If you have trouble identifying the bottlenecks use the VD overlay that will show during the game which part of your setup causes issues.
For me VD runs much worse than AirLink. but it seems to vary from person to person.

There's so many factors... stamina, controller settings, tracking optimization, not to mention if you repeatedly do one song, it stands to reason you would improve slightly and then plateau... like I wouldn't be surprised if you just used the same setup for all your takes and came out with similar results.
Personally, my ranking in terms of tracker quality for Beat Saber from best to worst:
    1. Rift/Rift S - With dedicated sensors for its controllers, it has the most stability and least wobble. The controller itself is lighter than the quest 2/3 not to mention the most well-built.
    2. Touch (Quest 2) - very stable, but still has some wobble when compared to the Rift.
    3. Quest Pro - decent tracking, but camera based tracking means it has a higher chance of flying off during heated sessions, not to mention it actually occasionally overheats and stops working (literally a notification pops up that says "your controllers are too warm, let them rest for a bit").
    4. Touch Plus (Quest 3) - maybe updates will fix this, but I'm guessing due to the lack of rings like the Q2 controllers, the tracking quality is far less precise. Routinely jumps several inches in random directions, which is terrible for BS. Quest 3 also doesn't have top-facing cameras like the Q2.
    5. Knuckles - haven't seriously tested this one yet but lighthouse tracked means it does have good tracking, it's just... heavy and not balanced well, and requires a whole different set of grip settings.

I've been a lighthouse tracking guy for a while, but recently got the Quest 3 and have been surprised by how good the tracking is, wouldn't say it's as good as lighthouse, but it's far closer than I expected and the controllers are just so much lighter and easier to move without fatigue, so I'll take a 1-2% reduction in tracking for 80% increase in mobility.

playing beat saber for hours and hours on end.. for science! very interesting results though. So far Quest3 is better for me because the controllers are so much lighter than Q2 which makes a huge difference, it's almost effortless now.

I just wanna say Naysy that your videos are seriously hilarious, incredibly clever, and well-done. I'm not sure if you make these videos on your own, but the effort put into them really shows, and I think I enjoy watching your content more than any other VR channel. Keep the great content coming!

Mad theory - what if PC version of the beatsaber has different settings or slight code changes compared to quest's standalone, that leads to different scores

Hello ! I just discovered your channel and wondered if you had a video that would guide anyone that wants to buy a vr headset depending on its prefered way to play or platform (like standalone vr or vr tgrough steam, and if through steam, what's the best option for windows, for linux and maybe for mac, dunno if they support vr through steam on mac).
Great rythm tho in the video pacing and overall your channel seems pretty great when we want to dive into VR.
    +1 sub.

@@Naysy Oh I was just being curious ! Plus I know nothing about VR news but maybe new hardware may be announced later this year, maybe waiting towards the end of the year is indeed a better idea. I was just wondering if you had videos were the platforms or the prefered way to play, I'll chevk others year videos then (as I think I understood you make those kind of videos towards christmas so you already did some) and maybe I could get some interesting infos already !

The reason you scored better on the quest headsets is because of swing bug, where the headset predicts position between frames. This means higher scores. The swing bug is more powerful on low refresh rate headsets. This means you’d probably do even better on the quest 1

IMHO, for it to be a truly level playing field the Quests should all have been on PCVR via Link cable. That'd mitigate any "extra forgivingness" baked into the standalone version of Beat Saber.

I just got the pro controllers for my quest 2, and it was immediately obvious they were so much better for beat saber than the regular controllers. Now when I miss, I know it was my fault. There were so many times with the standard controllers where I swear I sliced that block and it just wouldn't give it to me.

Hey Naysy, have you changed your in game controller settings for any one these? If not, the default settings for the knuckles are terrible and could explain why you consistently score lower using the bigscreen beyond. The default angle the saber is aligned to the controller is very different in the knuckles vs quest controllers, so quest could have an unexpected advantage 🤔

Weight is a big factor, maily in the faster maps. The energy you must spend to stop the directions you are cutting and reverse it grows exponetially with the speed and weight. So the ligher the controller the better. So if everything else was the same, the index controller would be the worst to play beat saber.

Controller weight is probably the big factor here… migrating from psvr1 stick-like controller to heavier psvr2 gun-like controller made a LOT difference on arm fatigue !
Light stick-like controller is definitely the way to go for fast action cutting action !
Also, i would compare serie average and not peak.
And it is very probable that the game make it more forgiving for some platform..,
