There's something just eerie about an empty stadium, kinda like an abandoned amusement park. But, many games a year are seen with minimal fans attending and 80% empty seats. I don't see how they afford to even open the stadiums like that.

I went to a White Sox Brewers game at County Stadium that lasted 19 innings. I had Upper Box seats - by inning 15 it was empty except for those who had traveled from Chicago. Got a couple foul balls. The stadium never stopped selling beer. The White Sox fans were chanting, "throw the Brewers fan over!" at me. Good times! Best yet - Brewers won!
I’ve probably been to more than 100 games in my life -mostly in Toronto, as well as a many other major league cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Francisco and San Diego. Have been fortunate enough to get two foul balls - both at the old Exhibition Stadium.

I'm a Cubs fan, originally from Chicago. The Sox ownership has been DOA for years. Reinsdorf really doesn't care, he owns the Bulls, too, and they have seen better days as well. It sucks that he has allowed a storied franchise sink into such mediocrity. The first All Star game was played there, at Old Comiskey Park. That place was old, definitely outdated, but, A freaking baseball palace. It looked and smelled like a historic ballpark, I always had fun going to Old Comiskey. Glad you had a great time, baseball is always more fun in person.
Great video! I was at the second game that evening. We were sitting 4 rows behind the 3rd base dugout. My friend inadvertently "caught" a foul ball when it sailed over his head, ricocheted back toward the field and landed between his back and his seat. Sox fans are the best. Even with the small crowd and the Sox inept season, they still maximize fun at the ballpark. Almost a walk-off. That catch was incredible. Coincidentally, my wife and I were also at the Tigers game in Detroit on Jim Leyland Day. Unfortunately, I did not spot you at either game.

Chicago guy here (now suburbs) Chicago fans are the greatest in sports - you can see how they will support their teams even during their lean years. Hi NY.!!!
Can you help me to understand how this game was for the worst team in history? I ask because I am a Cleveland Browns fan. And I think the browns were recently the worst team in history of sports. I thought that was an undisputed fact. This video cannot possibly be about a team that was worse than the Cleveland Browns, right???
@@Bert439 Thank you for helping. Because at the time we were researching and we could only find one team in history worse than the Browns because it was baseball and the owner had two teams. He used one team to make the other more pwerfully built. And if there is ever a team ever worse than the Browns then we have to recognize them. Funny thing around that time, no team had fans in the stands. Only cardboard cutouts and cheers played on loudspeakers. And I think the government subsidies in one way or another kept the NFL in operation. And that is why the sport is a propaganda arm today.
@@tman4237 Thanks for the clarification. Based on my experience, there are fans who can call these things in front of years before it plays out. I don't wish it on anybody, but Browns fans need to stop calling themselves the worst team in history of sports when they get eclipsed.
Game 1 attendance: kind of what you expect during the 2020 COVID season. Game 2 attendance: kind of what you expect at a Minor League game in a small venue. Either way, it's baseball. The best sport, period!
Went to a Sox game back in May when less and less fans were showing up to the ball park. Even though there were still way more people at the stadium then, it was actually really nice being in an empty stadium. No lines for the bathrooms or food stalls, close parking, and no traffic getting out of the stadium as well. Plus you had so much more space to stretch your legs and you didnt feel cramped
Such an enjoyable video. I'm sending it to my grandsons. I've been to 32 MLB stadiums. I have a Carl Yastrzremski and a Rod Carew HR ball. Speaking of Yaz, I saw his farewell game in in the old Comiskey Park. There were a lot more people there that day. Maybe I'll run into you someday at my home park, Fenway!
@duewhit310 idiot he meant like the best on their college team, high school team... etc before the bigs. Basically saying that even though it's a bad team they're still hella good players when you think about it
Wish I would have known you were coming! I would definitely have made my way to the park. Since I'm not a "Crowd Person", this stadium is perfect for me. 😝
This is heartbreaking honestly - Chicago needs so much help - Team and city. Miss old Comiskey so much. Hope this turns around soon - One of the most historic franchises
This stadium is significantly better than Comisky. The problem is the owner. Sox have basically the same attendance as KC who are in a playoffs spot right now. Sox always have terrible attendance when they're playing a team nobody cares about and it's pushed to the next day but this is crazy, especially for a day with good weather.
@@rangers1919 I'll have to disagree about yhe stadiums... Maybe I'm nostalgic but old Comiskey had quirks and character and history I miss - But the new place is nice enough - The Tigers new place (Comerica) stinks however compared to cozy Tiger Stadium
@@KayakerDude-cw1kkComiskey was falling down all over. It was an awful place to see a game, thanks to all the obstructive seats, in the lower bowl. You were better off upstairs, but then had to deal with the crazies up there…much like you do now.
I can remember attending some SF Giants games at Candlestick Park in the 70s. It was towards the end of the season, the Giants had about 100 losses and there were fewer than 1000 people there. You could literally walk up and buy a seat right behind home plate or wherever you wanted to sit.
Comerica park was like that a few years ago when I watched the Tigers play for the first time. It was nice not having to deal with lots of crowds, and the prices weren't bad.
This is a nice video. Just one thing, we Chicagoans call the rapid transit system here the "el" or "elevated", even when it runs underground. I understand you New Yorkers call your rapid transit system, the "subway," even when it runs above ground. Vive la difference!

I've seen a smaller crowd at a Cleveland Indians game in the summer of 92. Was visiting Cleveland from California when i was 12 and my uncle took me to the old municipal stadium. There were probably only a couple hundred people in that massive place, which made it pretty easy to snag myself a foul ball souvenir.
This park actually looks better than both New Yankee Stadium and Citi Field on TV anyway. And definitely better than that sterile dome up in Milwaukee.
@@rogerj1037 I have been to the retracto dome up there. The roof is amazing - I'll give you that - but it is just sterile almost as bad as the Kingdome was.

The white sucks used to be better back in the day with decent players. Now they have sold their soul and every few years they have a name change. I dont care what anyone says. ILL NEVER call it " Guaranteed rate field " Its comiskey park dammit lol.
In 1975 the Braves had less than a thousand show up for a game that also had some weather issues. If I'm not mistaken, John Montefusco of the Giants pitched a perfect game against them.
White Sox home game in 2005 was my first MLB game I was like 10, Idk how but my dad got free tickets from work (we never had extra money for anything like that so this was like a big thing for my family lol) but it remains one of the best memories I have with my Dad, Uncle ,and grandpa. Makes me sad to see an empty stadium it sure wasnt when I went
My brother and I went to a double header at Wrigley Field in 1984. Maybe 4,000 people. After every inning we moved to a different section to sit. We did the whole place (except the bleachers, that was a different access).
A couple of my buddies and I went to a Phillies game with a 2-3 hour rain delay and stayed through it. Upon restart, there was about 10 people in the park. It was one of the weirdest experiences of our lives. You could literally hear people across the stadium just casually chatting amongst themselves.
I watched the White Sox play the Padres on Sept 22, at Petco Park. The WS starting pitcher did a great job btw, he's one to watch. But I remember, prior to that series, hoping that the Pads would not be the ones to send the White Sox into baseball infamy with the record-breaking loss. Most Padres fans around me felt the same way, for we've had our share of terrible seasons and sparse crowds too. But not like this. This is an excellent video, but heartbreaking too. It hurts to see what's happened.
I’m a Yankees fan and have been to several Yankees games before, but I remember my first white Sox game I went to was in 2000 after I got out of navy boot camp and had a ton of fun. I feel for this fanbase and even Cubs fans will tell you that they deserve better..
5 minutes in and if either team hits a home run I’m expecting you to catch it in that empty stadium. 😂😂😂 I kinda like the whole longer behind the scenes video. A day in the life of Zack. Thanks
I noticed that in order to GET that baseball from the OPPOSING coach, you 'switched' hats, and are NOW wearing a Rangers cap and NOT the White Sox hat you WERE wearing.
I went to an A's game a few weeks ago. Only a few thousand people (they're leaving at the end of the season), but my son and I had a great time. Sit where you want, no lines anywhere, very friendly people (both fans and employees).
Ebbett's Field, Candlestick Park, Sportsman's Park, Crosley Field, Polo Grounds.... I guess all the great classy names are used up. They sure hit a home run with Guaranteed Rate Park! How about Prime Rate Park, Foreclosure Field, Sub-prime Stadium 😂
I attended the record low at Yankee Stadium, a Wednesday afternoon game in late August, I think it was 1966. The Yankees were in 9th place and the Senators in 10th in the AL (no playoffs). I bought a General Admission ticket and was one of three people in the bleachers, who were far away from me. I saw in the New York Times the next day that it was the record low attendance at Yankee Stadium in its history. Paid attendance was168, and they were all behind home plate but me and the other two. I was in left field and chatted with Joe Peppitone between innings. I asked him to hit me a home run ball as it was probably the only chance I'd ever have. He tried but it didn't happen. :(
All-Star AND Derby ball! How cool is that!? Wow...when you can count the fans in the seats with your eyeballs, that's saaaaaaad...hope they get their shit together soon.
I attended a Cleveland Indians game during a work trip in 1985. The team was in the midst of a 100+ loss season, and the stadium was empty. But I had a great seat, front row directly opposite 1st base. The foul ground was small, so I was really close to the action at first.
Bobby Wilson hookup.......you are LUCKY.....I was a season ticket holder there (Comiskey Park) in the 70's....we saw some rather small crowds back then too....
I get very excited when I see you're in Chicago, Zack. Die-hard White Sox fan for life no matter what & them being this bad won't last forever. We have the worst stadium name in baseball in my opinion but the best PA announcer in Gene Honda. Great video as usual & I was happy you caught a foul ball. You rock, Zack!
I was at that ballpark in the Scout Seats. Directly behind home plate. They are great and anything you is included in your ticket price. You don't have to pay for snacks, food or drinks. And there was less than 1,000 people at that game. But the seats are great
In 1947, at Soldier Field, the Chicago Bears played a team composed of college All-Stars in front of a crowd of over 105,000, according to Wikipedia. Anyway, quite a difference.
When I saw posts about the low attendance at this doubleheader, I thought, this must be Zack Hample's dream. Little did I know you were at those games. It was nice that you got those ASG and HRD balls and they look very nice.

I have seen empty stadiums in Montreal, and believe me, I know what I'm talking about as an Expos fan ...but here it's unbelievable in a much larger city as the beautiful Chicago....Chicago metro area population is exactly the total of the 2 largest cities in Canada : Toronto and Montreal...I love Chicago !
This video has it all! Great work, Z!
@@VegascoinVegas yep they are quite worse
atleast the Browns had fans in the stands
@@Bert439 Thank you for helping. Because at the time we were researching and we could only find one team in history worse than the Browns because it was baseball and the owner had two teams. He used one team to make the other more pwerfully built. And if there is ever a team ever worse than the Browns then we have to recognize them.
Funny thing around that time, no team had fans in the stands. Only cardboard cutouts and cheers played on loudspeakers. And I think the government subsidies in one way or another kept the NFL in operation. And that is why the sport is a propaganda arm today.
@@VegascoinVegas So, the Browns can't lose 125 games in a season. Not any easy task and they are on pace of shattering the record.
Absolutely!
thank God....something fresh on You Tube! Way to go Zack.
Empty stadium is a ballhawks paradise!
You took the red line to Sox Park happy you are still alive
😂😅😂😅
Such an enjoyable video. I'm sending it to my grandsons. I've been to 32 MLB stadiums. I have a Carl Yastrzremski and a Rod Carew HR ball. Speaking of Yaz, I saw his farewell game in in the old Comiskey Park. There were a lot more people there that day. Maybe I'll run into you someday at my home park, Fenway!
Lowest crowd ever = best crowd ever for zack
That is absolutely crazy attendance! Thanks for always sharing Zack!
Great strategy for game 2 that really paid off and immediate excellent vibes when you found the first kid to give the ball too, way to go, kiddo…👏🏻⚾️
I wish it coulda been that easy to snag a homer, but oh well.
That seriously looks really fun to have a stadium to yourself!
The thing is, every member of the White Sox was the best player on every team he played for.
So then maybe this happens to the Yankees one day?
@duewhit310 idiot he meant like the best on their college team, high school team... etc before the bigs. Basically saying that even though it's a bad team they're still hella good players when you think about it
Support for this b@!!s$:t?
“best player”?!?!
How cool.... Bobby coming in clutch.. I actually played little league ball with Bobby and watched him play throughout high school....
Very cool!
The A’s effect 💀💀💀
At least they have no plans of leaving
@drumz451 there are rumors of moving to nashville
@@no6418 oh ok
Lol
Sad but true poor A’s
Only without the team moving at the end of the season
TY for letting me know what field looks like inside - Twenty minutes away from it. Local news media does not show us this empty stadium situation.
Wish I would have known you were coming! I would definitely have made my way to the park. Since I'm not a "Crowd Person", this stadium is perfect for me. 😝
Ahh, sorry, I don't announce my plans anymore but hopefully I'll see you there someday!
Raised in the South Suburbs, went to tons of White Sox games in the 80s. This is just sad to see, hope they rebound eventually
This is heartbreaking honestly - Chicago needs so much help - Team and city. Miss old Comiskey so much. Hope this turns around soon - One of the most historic franchises
I agree.
Destroyed by the wrecking ball in 91
I can remember attending some SF Giants games at Candlestick Park in the 70s. It was towards the end of the season, the Giants had about 100 losses and there were fewer than 1000 people there. You could literally walk up and buy a seat right behind home plate or wherever you wanted to sit.
I miss pitchers completing games those days will never come back
Comerica park was like that a few years ago when I watched the Tigers play for the first time. It was nice not having to deal with lots of crowds, and the prices weren't bad.
That catch in the bottom of the 9th was insane!!
I'm still in shock just thinking about it.
@@zackhample all time HR rob. Best catch of the season in my opinion, and even crazier when you factor in the game situation!
This is a nice video. Just one thing, we Chicagoans call the rapid transit system here the "el" or "elevated", even when it runs underground. I understand you New Yorkers call your rapid transit system, the "subway," even when it runs above ground. Vive la difference!
Gotcha. Somewhere in my brain, I knew that.
It's the L not the subway when you are in Chicago
Oops!
@@zackhample oh, and by the way you can avoid taking an Uber from both Midway & O'Hare by taking the "L" both the blue line ( O'Hare) and orange line ( Midway) end at the airports and can get you downtown easier & probably faster than the drive
@zackhample it's all good lol
That depends on whether you're above or below ground.
Technically, when he got on the redline downtown, it was a Subway.
Dude has over 600k subscribers and the audio sounds like it was recorded in a 2003 ford escape.
As Ernie Harwell would say "the Rangers are doing a little ranging". Zack, I'm the former Scrabble player from Michigan who got a tape of the Silly Record from your dad. Met you, i think, in 2000 when you worked the Nationals. Was so grateful you gave me his address, but regrettably right after i sent him my letter i lost it. 😢
LOL at 'the Wave' 18:29.
That was truly an amazing catch to rob the Home Run. I didn't think a man could even jump that high.
Ahhh, Milwaukee has more character then the White Sox ballpark. At least to me.
@@rogerj1037 I have been to the retracto dome up there. The roof is amazing - I'll give you that - but it is just sterile almost as bad as the Kingdome was.
Nah, Milwaukee looks cooler
@@joetierney2 Um, No.
met you at the WS game last year on OYa baseball night. You grabbed brandon drury first pitch game hr against angels. Got a picture, i’m in the video. such a nice guy! keep it up zack
Sorry, what? I've never gotten a Drury homer but thanks for watching this one!
@@zackhample idk maybe it was someone else
@@zackhample i’ll look into it
it was taylor ward! my apologies
@@zackhampletaylor word. keep it up, Zack
This game probably felt like going to a high school baseball game or even worse youth baseball!!!
I’m a Chicago guy(Chicago Dude)myself and the White Sox have an atrocious record(and you can see why the fans stay away)Cubs are doing much better on Chicago’s North Side up at Wrigley Field(Clark and Addison Streets)but you’re having fun down there at the ballpark on West 35th Street and South Shields Avenue(35th and Shields for short)
The white sucks used to be better back in the day with decent players. Now they have sold their soul and every few years they have a name change. I dont care what anyone says. ILL NEVER call it " Guaranteed rate field " Its comiskey park dammit lol.
Best RUclipsr of all time.
Best RUclips comment of all time.
In 1975 the Braves had less than a thousand show up for a game that also had some weather issues.
If I'm not mistaken, John Montefusco of the Giants pitched a perfect game against them.
First
White Sox home game in 2005 was my first MLB game I was like 10, Idk how but my dad got free tickets from work (we never had extra money for anything like that so this was like a big thing for my family lol) but it remains one of the best memories I have with my Dad, Uncle ,and grandpa. Makes me sad to see an empty stadium it sure wasnt when I went
I saw that game did they get no hitter or something also can you buy me some tickets so I can go to 10000 mlb games like you
My brother and I went to a double header at Wrigley Field in 1984. Maybe 4,000 people. After every inning we moved to a different section to sit. We did the whole place (except the bleachers, that was a different access).
Great to see kids involved. Beautiful. Great sport and history. Thanks for the video. Fun.
Bobby Wilson is The Man for that
I’m a Yankees fan and have been to several Yankees games before, but I remember my first white Sox game I went to was in 2000 after I got out of navy boot camp and had a ton of fun.
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed this one! (Or at least the beginning.)
Very sad☹️hope things change for them
Ebbett's Field, Candlestick Park, Sportsman's Park, Crosley Field, Polo Grounds.... I guess all the great classy names are used up. They sure hit a home run with Guaranteed Rate Park! How about Prime Rate Park, Foreclosure Field, Sub-prime Stadium 😂
Hey Zack, it's not true that the park is empty . There are at least 500 people there (including the employees). Not bad for a big city.
Deep Dish! I really need to go back and get one
All-Star AND Derby ball! How cool is that!?
Wow...when you can count the fans in the seats with your eyeballs, that's saaaaaaad...hope they get their shit together soon.
You picked a tough gig, have fun brother!
I was there in August for the Cubs White Sox game. It was great, I love that ball park. Had some of that deep dish pizza too!
You got Lou's for the deep dish. great choice.
Thanks so much! It was truly a pleasure to be there.
I was at that ballpark in the Scout Seats. Directly behind home plate. They are great and anything you is included in your ticket price. You don't have to pay for snacks, food or drinks. And there was less than 1,000 people at that game. But the seats are great
Corey...sometimes a small crowd makes for a nice ballgame. Great job on post.
In 1947, at Soldier Field, the Chicago Bears played a team composed of college All-Stars in front of a crowd of over 105,000, according to Wikipedia. Anyway, quite a difference.
Its gotta be relaxing to just sit there and chill while watching the game
That was way cool for getting those baseballs to you!
When I saw posts about the low attendance at this doubleheader, I thought, this must be Zack Hample's dream. Little did I know you were at those games. It was nice that you got those ASG and HRD balls and they look very nice.
Surprise surprise!
