Seriously, bmw's are build to die in a puddle of water. A design choice I didn't expected from a company that big.
I fully expected it
They put air intakes low down in the belief it is better for performance, it isn't. The 15cm or more difference does nothing between where they are and where they should be.
In rain you have the same problem, it can take in water and damage the engine the same way.
Think of holding a plastic container out of the window with the opening pointing forwards in the rain and driving. It doesn't take long to fill up.
A lot of 4x4 drivers put snorkel kits on and always make the same mistake, they put the bit on the top pointing forwards to collect loads of water. What they should do is point it towards the rear. This would stop water intake and provide better performance from lower pressure air.
It is quite funny watching these videos.
I only went through 1ft of water and had to go really slow as I knew it was a risk. If the water had splashed I was ready to switch the engine off.
Turbo charged engines are a problem as they suck the air and water in with more force!
Probably deliberately
@@user-ec3gj1lw9z Great explanation 🙏🙏
Low air intake means better performance 🤷♂️
Defender to the rescue 😜👍
The Red Trike was awesome 😎
Towing another 4wd along isn't 'rescue'. It's more like canibalism. All wheel drive cars need a flatbed. This BMW not only got it's engine wrecked by the water but also got it's transmission wrecked by being towed! Double whammy.
Imagine the walk of shame having to get out your car when you knacker your engine after trying to show off to a bunch of strangers
Its always the BMWs 🤣
Did he leave it in gear or park for the tow as well? Either way it didn't look happy.
Yeah because their air intake feed is set really low in the bumper.

That beamer with the rufford rumble lmao. Imagine going through 8 inches of water and destroying your engine.
Imagine coming home and then realising you forget you diffuser in the water
3:49 the correct ways..
Would expect the best way is to go really slow, or possibly reverse. Exhaust pressure should prevent water going in, and the air intake isn't being used as a water bottle.
always go slow yes. Except if you can jump over it or something lol
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j always jump it
The BMW went slow in the beggining and engine stalled, whilst the other cars that went quick and dispersed water out of the way didn't have any adverse effects.
@@shino8854 the BMW's apparently have their intakes really low down. Not really any great solution in that case.
@@DareDevilPhil It's not the Intake. I Think, it's the insulation of thew wiring. In elder cars, often the plug-housings ar broken.

I want a ford like that in my town. And a towing business!
3:49 nobody complimenting the Jag
0:33 That is the sound of the xDrive transfer case tearing itself apart as it was never designed to be free-wheel towed.
You mean it's not possible to switch the transmission to neutral and push or pull a BMW?
@@MetalheadAndNerd BMW's with a drivetrain equipped with xDrive can't free wheel with the ignition off, since the engine's seased, preventing the ignition starting the ECU won't allow the diff to be free-wheeled hence why xDrive vehicles need to be flat-bed towed if the engines dead.
@@commanchi7 Thanks
0:34 It's probably an automatic handbrake for anyone wondering why it's being dragged with its wheels locked. It's possible that the handbrake can only be released when the engine is running/under specific circumstances, a flooded engine can't run so obviously if that's necessary then the handbrake is stuck too, I don't know though. Providing there isn't a major electrical issue, I think it should be possible to 'manually' release the handbrake with the engine off by putting your foot on the brake and pushing the button, but I don't know how that works in cars with an automatic parking brake. Maybe having the ignition on has it reapply after you release it or maybe it's triggered by touching the foot brake or something.
It could just be an incompetent driver who has left it in drive/park (auto transmission) or in gear (manual) though.
Car is in gear. It's AWD and all 4 wheels are locked.
@@TsLeng Being AWD, wouldn't the parking brake indirectly lock all 4 wheels? AWD cars can't be towed with 2 wheels on the ground as it would cause damage having 2 wheels rotating and the other 2 stationary, or is that just when in park as well (it was a channel about towing illegally parked cars in the US that I learned that from, so they'd be towing cars without access to take it out of park etc before towing)?
I admit though, the skipping is more in line with being in gear/drive/park than parking brake, even if it locks all wheels. If it's one of those stupid dial/knobs for selecting gear then it might automatically default to park if the engine is off.
Modern technology, more stuff to fail, more difficult to recover when it does. That's progress(!)
@@manuelh.4147 The driver could be used to it being automatic to the point they don't realise there's a manual option to release it.
I don’t thinks it the handbrake, it’s a permanent 4WD 435d and it’s stuck in gear. Not only is the engine wrecked but the gearbox is probably shagged now as well.
Shifter is electronic and cannot be actuated if the engine is shut.
Those Range Rovers were like helllllll yeeeeeea 😂.
For that truck at the end, it was basically a puddle LOL.

Judging from the jumpy rear wheels it looks like the automatic gearbox is still in park. Either they forgot to put it in neutral or the gearbox won't shift anymore because the engine won't start. At least that's what I think.
@@losmeets98 I reckon the water broke one of the ABS sensors and the tires locked up
The mechanical torture you hear on this channel can be worse than the sound of bones snapping.
You need to know the special procedure to put the auto box in neutral without the engine running - clearly this owner didn't.

I don't think the BMW hydrolocked right? Not deep enough, but probably has some water sensors which cut off the ignition to avoid hydrolocking.
Water sensors? Haha

I always come here just to see BMW's with a little splash stop at the side of the road. Meanwhile the "ordinarys" Peugeots, Citroens and VW's pass through it with no problems hahahah
It's probably due to where the air intake is . The BMW might have a lower intake or at least a more exposed one.
1:32 JAJAJAAJA THE GIRL AJJAJAJAJAAA --LOOK LEFT"
Funny how local council ignore this for decades 🙄
The thing people dont realize is that water can get into your engine and damage it like a week later if you keep driving etc.
From what
Is this true? How does the water still remain in the engine considering the cylinder temperatures? By that logic, higher humidity should destroy engines quite quickly but I've never heard anything about that.
WRONG, if water got into the engine then the car will hydro lock and won’t move or start, now of little, water gets in the engine 90% of the time it gets blown out the exhaust system.
Agree with AQCE. Little bit of water in the engine is fine and normal. Lots will hydro lock but it will Then shut off

Good to know that going through that will kill my engine. As a 435d driver I'll be sure to remember that for the next flood lol
Oh it doesn't take that much to kill it. I watched a BMW die infront of me after I slowed down and the BMW just floored it through. Well kinda through 95% and just hazards came on with alot of smoke.
