    You’re right, Longines have been making quality watches for years. Like you say, their Heritage line currently has some amazing pieces in it. This Spirit Zulu Time looks SO well designed. The applied numerals and 6 o’clock date are very clean. The GMT hand is extremely legible and the bezel looks very smart. Not too over done. A great choice for anyone searching for a watch with a GMT complication. Another great video from you here my friend. ✊

      @ID-Guy  2 года назад +2

      I'm loving the fact that they are going that extra step to bring us all of their unique designs from the archives while still evolving their current lineup and keeping them modern. Something I didn't know is that Longines is one of the top swiss watch sellers in the world, like top 5. It's crazy to think! But I agree, it's a name that deserves way more attention than most. Great point here Filippo 🥃

    • @The_Igloo
      @The_Igloo 2 года назад +12

      I do not agree. Not everything that is desirable should sell for more. Longines despite its lower prices has a heritage and quality that makes it venerable and of great standing, and this should not be marred by a greed for status and profit.
      It is accessible, not lower class.

    I’m a big fan of the brand. I own a 1973 chronograph and a Heritage Sector, but I’m not sure I’m ready to own a third. Were this not the case, I’d likely have already emailed my AD. I’m in love with the bold yet tasteful design of the GMT and the apparent value for money it represents.

    Good to see you again my friend! Hope you get fully recovered soon.... Not much news from me, apart from my AD emailing to say "we don't really have a waiting list anymore. And we only received 8 OP 36mm watches in the last year".... I'm beginning to realise that I may just need to keep saving and pay double at retail.. Or there is of course the option of just getting Omega !! Hahahah.. The thing about these Omegas.... Too thick, and also I prefer a solid caseback... Damn this watch game... Cannot win in this goldilocks world
    Edit. Sorry I forgot I was commenting on a video !! Ha ! Beautiful classy Longines there for sure.. But as you know, I am on a one watch mission...

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 года назад

      I'm sorry that the AD game has gotten this rough (I'm sure it's the same here in England) Cut your losses laddie and grab a Tudor (It's a great compromise 😉) OR If you're still driven and you know that the OP36 is the machine you want, go after it. The heart wants what it wants. I know your frustrations too... earlier this year the model I wanted was grinding away at me - I'll save the story until the unveiling, but it was borderline depressing seeing people flaunting them and knowing less than zero about what made them significant. We need to chat about this in the future Valera and have a super weekend! 🥃

      Edit... and I feel I have to go with your second suggestion. I'm going to stay patient and get the OP. Black or blue is probably the way as they're very beautiful and easier to find..I may only need to pay 3k over to get one, which in the long run of many years isn't all that terrible

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 года назад +1

      @@Valera_Scotland Shoot me an email and let's see if we can make a plan! But agreed, if you look at it as "3k for a lifetime of great experiences" you really can't put a price on it. • @theoverlord1925
    @theoverlord1925 2 года назад +1

    Not bad but they got a couple of BIG things wrong. Like you said the lack of micro adjustment on the bracelet , that has been out for a while now so for a new release watch for them to drop the ball on that is pretty embarrassing. Secondly and most importantly the Weight of the watch on the steel bracelet, TOO HEAVY . Also as a reviewer , you need to include the weight of the watch in grams when covering the specs as that is an essential indicator of wearability and comfort on wrist. Many reviewers are now including the weight in the specs. On a leather strap it’s probably going to be OK and the quick release with the nice clasp is a nice touch . Overall though while it is well executed the look is boring , a two colour bezel would have been better even just if it was one colour but two different shades, one light and one dark . That would have been more of a “ true “ GMT design in my opinion. Lastly the price, too expensive . But that seems to be a common denominator among Swiss watch companies, who in my opinion once again are charging too much for what they offer. I won’t be buying one , sorry mes amis.

    This is what I love about well designed field, Aviation and dive watches is they can be so versatile. You can wear them with jeans and a t-shirt or with a suit and tie and with a quick strap/bracelet swap can fit any occasion.

    I love Longines as a brand and I have two Longines that I'm delighted with. Said that, overall I like this new "Zulu", although seeing it in person I decide that it would not be in my collection. I don't like watches that shine too much, for my taste, the dial is too far from the glass, The Lyme and the bracelet are clearly improbable and the measurementes are somewhat large. The dial in general is not ugly but it does not convince me. I know it's a good watch and its specifications prove it but for the price or something else, there are watches that fit more into my preferences.
    Thanks for another great video.

    Absolutely! Longines make a great watch. Their quality has taken huge strides forward and they now offer watches with fantastic movements, superb finish and great design. They need to go for Tudor's jugular and with the new Spirits, they finally have a serious BB58 rival. For too long, Longines were concentrated on Asian market dress watches, but now they're looking to their sporters. Soon we'll see a new Hydroconquest (or Spirit diver) - let the battle commence! I thought it looked so good as soon as I saw it. Don't care that I've got my big eye , love one of these to partner it! No wonder you had to make a list it's got so many features and it's such a well balanced design
    Great to see a watch with applied arabics which look so good. Think my only nitpick was does having all those arabics around the bezel make the overall design too busy? Would just the key numbers and the rest indices look better? Maybe that's just me. One of your renders would answer that! The quick change bracelet and strap option is so good . You can get more of that heritage feel instantly. Good to have a colourway choice , really like the black, but the sunburst blue dial looks amazing with it's orange gmt hand absolutely popping. I think as with the Big Eye when you look at what this watch offers you , the most incredible thing about it is the price. Wow!

      It's a mind-blow seeing them pull out all the stops with this release. And great point about the numerals on the bezel and dial. The cherry on top, for me, is that they've reduced the ratio of lug length to case diameter.
    Longines likes long lugs but this makes them often unwearable for smaller wrists. I have a 6.5in wrist and no problem wearing, say, a 42mm Speedmaster. Yet most 42mm Longines are just too long for me. The LDD is over 52mm!

    Was this commentary written by Elaine from the Jerry Seinfeld show while she was working for that clothing fellow?

    Why is the second hand running counter clockwise in some of the footage, does someone know? I always wonder.

      Great eye there Martin. It's me and editing 😆 I sometimes reverse the footage to make it look more "dynamic" and less repetitive. Of course the seconds hand gives it away that the footage is going backwards haha! 🥃

      Ok, I see, thanks for the answer!
      And thanks for all the great content, it's really enriching to get your design perspective.

    I cannot disagree with all of your points IDGuy. This watch is stunning. I have a lot of respect for Longines with the releases over the last few years. The Big Eye in steel (a watch I initially disliked but now own) through to the Sector dial and Tuxedo, wonderful at a glance readable pieces. The Zulu time is another piece that is simple yet elegant and the date at six (something that is quite rare in the Longines catalogue these days) along with the COSC certification are also a plus. The difficult choice would be the colour and to decide between the bracelet and the strap. Another model for me to see at the AD at some point. One thing that I've yet to find out is is the bezel is a 48 click like the Tudor BB GMT (1/2 hour differential) that would cover time zones that are 1/2 hours away from GMT. I work with teams all over the world that have that GMT +- X+1/2 offset.

      It hit me the other day that I don't think Longines has gone a year without bringing out a banger of a watch (every year) It's pretty incredible what they manage to do in the background all the time AND they're finally getting the attention. No doubt they're going after Tudors jugular with these (and hopefully will bring the sizes down soon enough) But it's such a great start. And wit the bezel clicks, I might be wrong, but it looks like it might be a 48 / 24 click? We've gotta see these in the flesh 😉

      Love those classic Omega / Longines models. It's amazing to see how much the two brands shared dials and components back then! 🥃
