I loved this video! I felt like I was at Comic Con. I’ve heard about the toy district but had no idea how big it really is.Glad you were able to stop and go into the Idol store. I thought for a second you were going to go into Kotobukiya, wish you did.

Akihabara was my favourite part of the Tokyo trip. There was also a really cool retro video game store there but I forgot the name. I wish I took better care of my video games as a child.

The Gundam Cafe was open in 2019 but it was small. When the AKB48 cafe and store closed that year, Gundam ended up taking over the space so it's much bigger now.

Yeah AKB cafe and store closed at the end of 2019 - I don't know if they lost their lease or what, but it apparently had something to do with all the planned renovations to the commercial area surrounding the station. On the other hand there was a lot of talk that the Gundam cafe was also going to close at the same time but they somehow managed to survive, grabbing the AKB space

"California raisins" song is "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye. That was a popular Motown song 20+ yrs before the Raisins :D Other song is "I Can't Help Myself" also by Gaye. Look him up; he & 60s Motown were awesome!

A lot of the maid girls turn away or cover their faces from the camera. Why do they do that? Is that job embarrassing or something?

@@Barrysushi569 No, they are not sex workers. They are turning away because (1) being a tout for any business is considered low end work, (2) it takes a lot of confidence to wear a fetishized outfit in public, and (3) you're supposed to visit the cafe and pay a fee to take photos.

If they were so embarrassed they wouldn’t want Pics at all , not to mention the chances of friends family seeing them on the street

@@Barrysushi569 I don't think they are sex workers. Maybe its just my libertarian point of view, if you are embarrassed to be in a front facing job like that then don't do it. Out in the public street no less. In a city as big as Tokyo surely you can find a job that you aren't embarrassed by.

I respect Japanese culture (and consume a lot of it), but I don't really think that level of mask wearing outdoors is really necessary for everyone. The chances of you catching a cold (or worse) on an outdoor street are going to be virtually zero b/c you're not in anyone's breathing zone for longer than a moment.

That’s because they don’t want to be filmed, you can see the majority of them turn away or hide their face when they see the camera.
