In the 90s there was some ridiculous made-up madonna "quote" along tge lines of "I'd rather die than be Mariah Carey"...absolute nonsense, and any true Madge fan knows she never speaks about other artists in that way. And it's a real shame that Mariah fell for it and played into the media's hands with a catty response.
Madonna was agitated for a minute when Gaga plagiarised Express Yourself, but you won't find her talking shite about another artist. Even when Elton John was being nasty as hell, she kept it classy. He even admitted so himself.
She did say that about Mariah but not meaning anything about her talent, she said it was the way shes so polished and presented and controlled, while Madge was more wild and free, she said it but it was taken completely out of context.

He used to say all kinds of really "nice" things to get attention for "his" artists. Reid is kinda a douche.
And this is one of the reasons why her career has stayed strong through decades.
I’m glad she handled it kindly because obviously English is not the reporter’s first language and he may not be asking the question in the way he thinks he is. Code switching between languages can leave a lot of room for misunderstanding.
