I thought about adding my full thoughts in the video but was afraid it would become too long and didn’t want to bore you guys out so I’ll do it as a comment. My theory is that sometimes the quality control when it comes to middle eastern frags (and even designer ones sometimes) is not the best. Especially when those fragrance houses realize that a frag is actually popular they probably want to meet the demand and don’t give enough time for the oils to fully macerate and so you may end up with a product that needs to complete that process on your shelves basically:)
When I was looking to buy Detour Noir, there was very limited availability online, and after a few months, the market was flooded with bottles, explaining what you men.
I noticed this with Rare Carbon, had this really off putting note when I first got it. I put it away for a few months and came back to it and was like damn this is good. I guess not a huge deal because most people purchasing 'clones' have a large collection where they can wait it out. And if it helps keep the price reasonable then it's worth the trade off
As you noted, Maceration happens before the product even goes to market. However, after that period, the bottling, at least, it's "Maturation." People use these terms interchangeably, but they're two separate processes, and the results one is most likely to experience are from maturation. If, however, as you've theorized, a company is anxious to get the product out because of demand, then it may not have the appropriate amount of time to macerate, which could also change the dynamics to some degree.
Thank you for this review. Very helpful and interesting. I had issues with CDNIM EDT and L'aventure OG and Supremacy silver. All three were all lack luster. They all did not perform well.. longevity sucked.. and the smell was off. Great review! I have had one maceration experience so far with lattafa ejazzi. Performance was poor then a few weeks later it came alive. Now I am praying to the maceration gods to help my new bottle of fragrance world imperium. It performs terribly, the opening is gone after 15 minutes and lasts less than an hour on skin, maybe 2 hours on my shirt. I have had it for 10 days now and nothing has changed. 😞
I had the exact same issue with Imperium. Unfortunately, it never improved and I had to toss it. Was a shame because the bottle with the sapphire looking gemstones in the cap was beautiful but the fragrance had no projection or longevity. I don't understand why they can't make it more concentrated.

Do not confuse Maceration with Maturation. Maturation is what makes your fragrance perfom better and what strenghten the scent profile. Most if not all of your clone fragrance from your favorite middle eastern brands will need to mature. It takes a few weeks but a sold month or two will do the job. When you first get your bottle spray it in the air for about 20 to 30 times. Put it back in the bottle and let it sit away from the sun. After 3 weeks spray it again 10 to 15 times (you should start noticing a change in potency) then after a month and some change you can start wearing it. By month 2 or 3 you'll start picking up new notes in your fragrance. My most mindblowing case is Armaf hunter intense. When I first got it... It smelled weird and all over the place. My girlfriend told it smelled like cheap indian perfume. I let it sit for over a year... decided to give it another chance then BOOM... it's my girlfriends favorite... and the perfume that gets me the most compliments especially from women.

And I'm glad you brought up Armaf odyssey mega because when you first reviewed it i thought about getting one and letting it macerate, and i highly recommend shaking the bottle every once in a while during maceration
You are asking some great questions here that probably deserve a whole separate video :) I’ve thought about re-visiting some old frags to give an update about performance. I personally try to wear a fragrance at least a few times for real before doing a video about it, which becomes hard at some point because I always get new ones and sometimes there’s simply not enough time to test them all out.
@@thenicesmellinggentleman what you did in this video is great and no one have done it except for one female reviewer, making like an after maceration series and see if it changed or not, making notes for before and after, like what you did now with Armaf odyssey mega, i saved money I won't get it and i thank you for making this video, an after maceration series is great and that's exactly what we want in the fragrance community, i am sick and tired of the most complimented Fragrance clickbaits, we want to know more about the fragrance itself, I'm already enjoying your videos, the unique ones comparing 2 or 3 clones to the original (I'm hinting for Armaf untold vs haramain Rouge 😉) i just got back in the fragrance game again, and all of my fragrances are in maceration stage unfortunately and I can't but I can't keep my hand off milestone 2 months and I'm down to 50ml, cdni limited edition i just got on sale for 70$ and I won't touch it till after 2-3 months

Thank you for making this video, my question is, how can i trust your nose to review (or any reviewer) a Middle Eastern fragrance out of the box without my maceration? The majority who can't get access to fragrance samples will buy according to reviews, and have you thought of re reviewing fragrances after maceration?
Armaf is my favorite clone house, they all performed great right out of the box. The CDN line is especially strong: intense man EDT, urban man elixir, Sillage and milestone are all beast mode performers for me.
I understand it to be maturation and not maceration. Am I incorrect? Cheers.
Seems like everyone is calling it different :)
@@thenicesmellinggentleman Whatever it's called, I do know it works. Cheers.
Great points.
Thanks!
Can you still use it while its macerating?
Yep, that will probably accelerate the process
The Alexander j oud zafeer smelled like vinager then i let it sit for 2 months now it smells like gourmond vanilla ooooooh so good sometimes you just have to wait and have faith .
It’s true :) I’m glad it improved for you
@@thenicesmellinggentleman smelling good never looked better
I wish that all my fragrances that "doesn't last" would last 5-6 hours as your non-lasting Armaf clone.
My skin usually works well with fragrances but I know some people have skins that just don’t hold well to most scents for some reason
This is not a real thing, you don’t know how long a bottle has been sitting anyway, nobody uses a bottle within a month either so it wouldn’t matter anyway, I’ve had 100s of bottles that all smell exactly the same from day one to day 9376
Dumbass.
i doubt maceration would improve longevity and performance. it would make the juice stand out since the alcohol was gone but thats just it. maceration could also means degradation in perfurmes cause perfumes do expires too
I had Bentley absolute.
And it didn't last at all. It's been a few months now and it definitely last longer. I don't know the reason, but it's sitting around seem to work.
